These teas are SO yummy. My brother always gets me teas for Christmas and they're divine. They're strong loose leaf tea which tells of its quality. You don't need to use much. My sister-in-law and I go shopping exactly once a year, in December, and yesterday was the day. She excitedly told me that a good friend of hers had strongly recommended Tea Market and had been a customer for years. Cute location, cute shop, we even found a great parking space, things were looking good! And then we went in, ready to spend. There were three total people in the store (us included), it was midday on a Wed (just setting the scene in case you are thinking it was a busy Saturday; it wasn't!) My SIL asked the owner if she could recommend specific products for her friend, gave her the friend's name, etc. Instead of saying "gosh, I really can't look up what she bought but I can recommend some fan faves!" she went with the "you know, I've been here 22 years and I have 12,000 customers" route and seemed incredibly put-out. My SIL and I were like "wait, what?" We left it alone and browsed for a sec - the owner then took literally 47 seconds to type a name into the computer and did come up with a couple of products for my SIL's friend, but she acted like we were asking her to violate HIPAA. This store has plenty of tea, and I totally get why other people love it. I also get why December is hard on small businesses and maybe the owner was just having a bad day. For me, the unfortunate part of our visit wasn't the tea, which I'm sure is....fine? It was seeing the light go out of my big-hearted SIL's eyes when she realized the owner was not remotely interested in connecting with an eager customer. I might add that our stop immediately before this was The Corner Candleshop in Brookside and the difference was mind-blowing. They were lovely, engaged, helpful, and we can't wait to return. This place is a tea lover's dream. As you walk in there is a table sampling one tea for the day. During the summer they are often brewed cold and taste quite refreshing. "Cherry jubilee" was the tea of the day. The the sample was great shortly after, I walked out with two ounces of cherry jubilee in hand. In the store, there is a wall full of around 50 loose leaf teas, sorted by type-- black, green, herbal, and health. Each of the teas has a small sample jar for you to smell and enjoy the aroma. Some teas are organic. When you purchase two or more ounces of one type of tea, they give you beautiful solid containers (perfect for a small gift). These containers can be brought back to the store and refilled for 10% off! The associates Ruth & Mitsy are passionate, inviting, and genuinely want to help you find something that suits your palate. Ruth gave me recommendations based on teas that I previously enjoyed. I mainly purchase black tea from Tea Market. I can personally recommend: April in Paris, Chocolate Mint, Flu Fighter, Energize, Cherry Jubilee, Black Currant and Macaroon. In addition to the green teas, Dragonwell and Genmaicha. Let me start by saying that I do not like to write negative reviews and I will always give a business a second or even third chance, but I'm not so sure that will be the case with this business. My daughter and I stopped in eager to try a new business and enjoy the warm, inviting space. However, the service we were greeted with was somewhat condescending and honestly rather rude. From the moment I walked in and said I am not from the area but have recently noticed the shop when dining in the area, the owner said, "that's interesting, the restaurant has only been open one year but I have been here for twenty". Forgive me, but a simple "thanks for stopping by" would have sufficed. Her attitude did not warm up much as we asked questions and were prepared to make a purchase. The prices are quite high compared to other independently owned tea shops in the area and a cold day that could've been warmed with a smile and nice conversation, was actually quite "chilly". Disappointed when I went to the store to talk to them about how I could improve the taste of the Masala Chi tea I had purchased. It has very little taste. I was told they didn't know what may be wrong but quote "we can't do anything. Anyone could come in and say they don't like the tea". I was not asking for a refund I was asking if there was an ingredient I could add to make it taste better. The purchase was $85.00. Customer service was very disappointing. read more

What a great little local shop! Like most shops around the area, its hours are inconvenient for anyone with standard job hours, but that's the only place I can knock them on. The store is bigger than it seems from outside, and is very clean and spacious, with a comfortable layout. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. It has a great wall of loose leaf teas, as well as a great selection of bags as well. Also accessories to make sure your tea is made to perfection. I love just sniffing the tea samples that they have of each kind, but in the end I am boring and love plain green tea. If you're like me, I do recommend the Dragon Well, which is extremely similar to the amazing teas I've had in China (including in Zhejiang Province, where the Dragon Well comes from). Such a lovely shop and so many great loose leaf teas. Was greeted right away and the Staff knows the tea and can tell you all about the flavor profiles, health benefits, etc etc. You purchase by the ounce and can buy as little as just one ounce so that if you don't like that tea you aren't stuck with a bunch. The teas aren't crazy expensive but priced at a moderate price point. I purchased a couple different kinds and so far the two I have tried have been great. They write the flavor and steep time on the bags however ours was not written all that neat so it is anyone's guess as to what it says! My only critique was that I felt a tad rushed by the Gal helping me and she wasn't the warm and fuzzy type...I will say though that she was helpful and knowledgeable. Had an incredible time attending Tea Blending Basics class with 3 friends yesterday!!! Tea Market offers a variety of classes for tea lovers (and private classes for groups of 6 or more!). They were able to get all four of us in last minute (morning of) and were warm and friendly when we arrived. For $10 per person, we got to learn the basics about how tea is blended, taste teas blended by Tea Market Staff, and blend our own custom teas! Once we settled on our own perfect recipes, we got to name the tea and take 2 ounces of our blends home with us. We all learned a lot on the class and had an opportunity to shop with 15% off afterward. Every experience I've had at Tea Market has been a great one and I can't wait to go back for another class or book a private class for my friends! read more

When the shop owner's adorable dog, Gatsby, greets me at the door, I forget why I came in the first place! Whether it is Stacie working that day or one of the staff members, I always feel welcomed. I was struck by how clean and well-organized the shop was on my first visit. I walked away with tropical green tea and Meyer lemon chai both of which were amazing. Let them know how many ounces (1, 2 or 4, maybe more?), and they'll pack it up for you. I'm almost positive if you bring back the same tin, you will get a discount on your next loose leaf purchase. Most recently, after receiving their email updates, I came into the shop for the seasonal pumpkin spice tea. Mmmm, it is SO good! If you're hesitant at all, ask for a tasting. I usually like to grab a tea latte myself from their tea bar. Speaking of emails, usually I opt out of these (stores can get a little carried away), but I stay tuned to what happens at the Tea Market. I like knowing what they'll be sampling next and the classes that will be offered at the shop. I have attended the Matcha class (for $8) which was well-worth it to learn all of the nifty things from the owner. She is very passionate and knowledgeable. LOVED this place!!! My foodie friend from KC has been sending me their tea for the past few Christmases, so of course I wanted to go there in person when I finally made the trip out there. I was NOT disappointed. There are a wide variety of all-year round teas and always some seasonal favorites. Some are even so popular that they make it onto the regular menu! Stacie, the owner, greeted us right away and offered us a sample of the day's flavor. Her little Havanese, Gatsby, also helped to make us feel right at home. She is extremely knowledgable about teas and her "tea degrees" are prominently displayed. It is clear she takes pride in keeping up on the latest information on all things tea. She even sells tea pockets to take while traveling. Pu Erh fans, this tea rocks. I know this one is an acquired taste, but I really liked it. I've also had their Caramel, Macaroon, Hot Cinnamon Spice (like a cup of Red Hots) and Masala Chai and am looking forward to trying the new ones I brought home with me. I've been a customer of the Tea Market since they opened 17 years ago. Stacie Robertson, the owner, knows her stuff and when I attended the Tea Basics class and then later the Matcha class I learned so much about how to brew tea, how to store tea, and the health benefits of black, green, white, herbal and oolong teas. When they added the Tea Bar I was in heaven! I could stop by anytime and they would fix me my tea of choice. And, with 100 teas to choose from, there are lots of choices! Everyone who works there is knowledgeable and really takes the time to answer your questions and direct you to the tea that's right for you, or someone you love. That being said, they don't hover while you shop. They give a nice introduction to the shop then let you browse, always checking in to see if you have questions. First time customer. Stacie (the owner) and Lexy (a stalwart and mighty smart employee) made it easy. The store itself is charming and warm, as welcoming as a hot cup of tea. Stacie and Lexy were immensely knowledgeable about the product and were quick to offer samples when I expressed interest. Despite my being a neophyte (tea-ophyte? Are we punning? Is that cool?), I was never once made to feel stupid or out of the loop. I left with tins of Earl Grey and Darjeeling and a sample of something called An Ji Bai Pian. I stopped by the Tea Market on Tuesday. I was very happy that I did. The staff is very knowledgeable about all of their products.. I found a great "Hot Spiced Cinnamon Tea" in fact I am having some right now. They over 40 different loose teas. They include oolong, black, white, and green teas. They also carry boxes of bagged teas. I was happy to see that the Tea Market had a good variety of mugs and pitchers. The Tea Market is close to the Johnson county area so it is close by just to drop in for a cup of tea. read more

What you won't find are tea mixtures for cramping, bad feet, sore throat, weight loss, ingrown nails etc. What you will find are herbal blends, white teas, green teas (the best I've ever had), oolong, and black teas that will lift your spirits, calm you down, stop a craving, wake you up, soothe your soul and have natural healthful healing properties.
