I took my wife to Whiskers on a day date among other things around downtown Kansas City. This spot has been on her to-do list for quite some time, and I think it's safe to say that she loved it. I very narrowly avoided the need to talk her out of bringing home another cat as the feline she wanted was a permanent resident of the cafe. Stopped by for an appointment/reservation to hang out with the cats awaiting adoption. The staff immediately greet you and explain how your reservation will be organized. You have the opportunity to take a coffee or coffee like beverage over into the cat roaming side with a lid of course because these little guys will be rubbing up on all your belongings probably as they're so friendly. You get 1hr in the cat roaming side to hangout, play with the cats and their toys or just drink your coffee if that's your prerogative. It's really a great experience to help habituate the cats to interacting with people, which in turn will help them get adopted at some point. Obviously you also have the option to adopt the critters after your visit if you end up bonding with one. Really well run business with super friendly staff. This is a unique space that my daughter would LOVE. On our last day in KCMO my son and I missed the hotel breakfast and I needed coffee. I looked up locally owned coffee shops on the way to the airport and this place popped up. We checked dig it and it was worth it. Not only is it a simple and quaint cafe but it's a cat rescue! For $16 which goes to keeping the cats and rehoming them, we got 30 mins of relaxing time petting cats. The coffee was good also. I would recommend for anyone experiencing anxiety or stress. Come here, drink a coffee or tea and pet some beautiful felines. Please supper locally owned businesses like this one. We have 2 adorable dogs at home who would never speak to us again if we brought home a sweet little cat, so we got our feline fix here at Whiskers... Sipping a tea while petting cats and watching them play was a joy, I'm so glad this place exists. Our dear friends adopted 2 wonderful kittens after their visit to Whiskers. I adopted my cat here a few years ago when they were just getting started. He is a sneezy little boy who they found off the street and he had been there a long time. Working at the cafe helped to socialize him and he still does well with people and most other animals! The staff were very helpful in telling us about the cats personalities, and making sure that we did our due diligence in visiting with him and seeing if it was the right fit. The cats have both a public and private area and they keep it quite clean! This is an excellent place to go for first time adopters. read more

Visited the cat lounge at 7pm on a Friday night with 5 others in our party, for a low-key birthday outing. The reservations were easy to make online and it's $15/pp. Reservation includes a drip coffee and supporting KC Pet Project. We had a wheelchair user in our party and the staff were very accommodating. We were able to use the front, accessible entrance. I believe there are 10 people allowed each hour and there were only 8 total for our reservation time. The cat lounge is huge and so comfortable that it would fit 10 people easily without feeling cramped. The cats were friendly and came up to you for pets and snuggles when they wanted. There is a safe room they can hide in when they're tired. I was worried how we'd spend 60 minutes starring at cats but the time flew by! New cats would come out to play and it was a revolving door of cat entertainment. There are 6 resident cats and the others are adoptable. I would highly recommend visiting. The staff were so friendly, sharing tidbits about the cats and their personalities. But beware, the cats were obsessed with our coffee!! Had to play keep away from them read more

This is an unexpected amazing experience! This is first cat cafe I visit in KC area, (don't know if there are others...) and it definitely set the bars high for any other cat cafes that I may visit in the future. It has two rooms: one is only cafe side (no cats) the other is cafe with cat residents or ready for adoption. $8 admission fee for the cat room is required, and appointment for the visit is also highly recommended. I was lucky enough to have available spot the time I visited, because I didn't know that it actually needs to make an appointment to see and play with kitties. The staff on the only cafe side was so kind to ask for me and I was able to get in for the 1pm group. The drink is reasonably priced, I got London fog, and it was ok for the price. The best part was the time with cats. They are all so healthy and so comfortable to be around human. Their furs are all soft and fluffy, and just so easy to get along with. It was just so peaceful even by quietly sitting there with them taking naps. I highly recommend this cat cafe for anyone who is fond of felines or maybe looking for adopting. They have kittens too. My sister and I finally visited a cat cafe & we chose to visit Whiskers here in KC. We had been planning a visit for quite some time. We decided to go during the day on a week day. Reservations are recommended, but you can also view the number of current reservations on-line to gage how busy each hour will be. We decided to arrive without a reservation at noon (so if a crowd arrived before us, we could still attend at 1:00). Upon arrival we found out that you can even attend for 1/2 hour for about 40% less. We liked it so much, we stayed for the full hour (which flies by). We had time to engage with every cat, and there were many, including kittens. My sister found it extremely adorable and such a stress reliever. The cats were friendly. One even climbed in her lap for a bit. There are many toys to interact with the cats. I kept fairly active getting cats to engage in the Giant wheel and climb up to the bridge across the top of the center of the room, as well as using the toys. We really enjoyed a few of the new kittens & Sir Grump the Third (a resident cat). I love supporting local businesses and especially ones that provide a creative solutions to problems like finding a good fit for families to adopt these precious pets. By supporting this business, we get to be a part of that too. They did a wonderful job with Whiskers. It's clean & cute with friendly staff. The gift shop is cute too! We got our cup of coffee at the end & drank it in the gift shop area. If you are hungry, there are food options at the coffee shop next door. If you love animals, but don't have cats or pets due to traveling, the expense, being away from home long hours or other reasons, visiting Whiskers regularly is a great solution...not to mention a fun, unique gift or experience for everyone! read more

We visited the cat lounge part of Whiskers and enjoyed our experience! We made a reservation online and got an hours worth of cat play time! We didn't get any coffee this time but they offer a small coffee selection before you enter the lounge. There are older cats and there are young kitties. Most of them were very sleepy since it was close to night time but we enjoyed petting them and playing with them. They were all friendly and loved to be pet. I especially loved the cat who has their nails painted! The kitties were very active and running around! There is a separate cafe only area that doesn't require a reservation but there are no cats sadly. I would definitely recommend reading their rules and guidelines before booking and going. We payed $15 per person for an hours worth of time, which I wish was extended because an hour truly isn't enough time to play. Overall, it was very clean, no odor, and a good time! read more

WOW!! I loooooved my experience at Whiskers. All their cats are adoptable, and so social and cuddly! The only thing is I wish we would've come earlier so we could put in an application for the cutest little cat before someone else did! What a great space! $10 gets you in to spend 1 hour with the cats + a drink (coffee, tea, water). They also offer some specialty drinks & there is a small shop with tees, mugs etc. Large area with different places to sit, stand, browse. Lots of toys, scratching posts, climbing areas for the cats. I would say the majority of the kitties are kittens. I counted 4 adults. I definitely wished there were more grown cats - but I hope that means they are getting adopted! You can pet & play with the cats. You aren't allowed to pick them up or hold them. The owners want a space where the cat is in control/comfortable and I like that. The kittens are super playful, and the older cats tend to lounge and sleep. One cat came over and just plopped in my lap! We've visited a few cat cafes in Tokyo and we were excited to stop by Whiskers in Kansas City. We thought $10, with a drink included, was a fair price. Everything was well organized and clean. To our surprise, a majority of the cats were kittens which was a lot of fun. I will say that it was a different type of atmosphere compared to the cat cafes in Japan as Whiskers allows patrons to put in an application to adopt the cats. I could see this being an issue if you brought kids and they overheard patrons talking about adopting the cat and then your kids wanting to take one home! What we really enjoyed is how much attention the cats want to give you. In Tokyo, you usually have to buy special cat treats to get the cats to come to you. At Whiskers my wife had about three kittens fall asleep in her lap and another two or three wanting to play around with her. Overall a really great experience and all of the staff are super friendly and stop by from time to time to make sure you are enjoying your time. read more

Oh my gosh, this is the cutest little place. You can either walk in or make an appointment ahead of time (for 30 min or 60) to spend time with the cats. They provide some expectations which all seem reasonable to me. And if you find a kitty you fall in love with, you're able to adopt from there! I'm not sure how many steps there might be to do so tho. They also have lots of little goodies for both humans and cats, and the coffee ain't too bad either. How can you not fall in love with this place?! We booked a kids session for as a birthday treat for my daughter. Everyone - including our brooding 14 year old - had fun. The cats are so happy and well taken care of. The staff clearly loves them more than anything. Most of the cats are available for adoption, so it's a great place to support. Reservations can be made online and are recommended. Walk-ins are available but not for kids under 14. Make sure you enter through the back door. The street entrance is kept closed to prevent the cats from escaping into traffic. There is a small parking lot behind the building. You can also find parking on the side streets. read more

The cat lounge area is incredibly clean and has amazing climbing structures, bridges, trees, scratching posts, etc. They had 4 resident and 12 adoptable cats and work off of reservations limiting the number of people during each session. We have been to several other Cat Cafe's in other cities and Whiskers is by far our favorite. Staff in both the coffee shop and cat lounge were awesome and very friendly. I am not even a pet person, but still loved my time here. I booked a private hour here for my husband and son as a Christmas present since they like cats......it's exactly what it sounds like, get a coffee (I had a great chai latte and my son loved his hot chocolate) and then go play with the cats for an hour. What's better than tea and cats?? Nothing. Put them together and you've got one of my favorite places to be! A lovely concept. The staff are so kind and caring, and the cats are SOOOOO well taken care of. They have all of the things they need and it was incredibly clean inside. I don't know how they do it with 35 cats but there is more hair inside of my apartment with just one cat... There is a $10 reservation fee that includes any of their drink items up to $2. There were others available for a slight upgrade (nothing more than $4 I think). The money goes to a wonderful cause it was the happiest hour of my day. There are house rules to follow that might be hard for little ones, but still a family place. It was so fun to play with the kitties and to just sit and let them enjoy our company. We had such a fun time at Whiskers Cat Cafe! There were several structures for the cats to play on, including a couple areas that were off limits to guests...this was good for the cats who needed a little chill out time. There were plenty of seats for everyone and the cats were very friendly. They made their way around and said hello to all of their guests. Some sat in laps, others played on the ground, while others sunbathed. The staff was friendly and gave us some time to feel comfortable with the cats and then brought out some fun toys to play with. If you like cats, this cafe was super fun. It did cost $10 per person to enter, but came with a free beverage. I'll definitely bring my cat-loving friends and family back! read more

Oh well made it to Whiskers on the insistence of my daughters! The business is very well run and the process is a well oiled machine from reservations to check in to the list of rules. Overall it was a fun experience. I get that you cannot pick up the cats and they must come to you, but this makes it a bit harder if you're thinking of adoption I suppose. We ended up contacting Whiskers about a day later about a cat but they said it was already adopted! She remained on the website and finally three days later we stopped by. Turns out, she was indeed on hold by one of the staff. I'm so happy she was adopted but I wish they would remove any already adopted cats from their site as it would have saved me a 50 minute round-trip drive and two saddened girls. This is an easy website update since there aren't a lot of cats there. Just a suggestion! XOXO read more

Absolutely adorable! I cannot believe there are not more of these concepts. You walk into the back door and arrive in what looks like a cat gift shop and a front desk. There are lots of human cat themed gifts as well as gifts for your cat. The front desk checks you in and takes your drink order (water and drip coffee are part of the price of your admission). They use Messenger coffee beans and brew them perfect. After you sign a release and get a brief but very helpful run down of the rules and process you are free to head to the cat room. It is just a large open room with cats and kittens everywhere. They have caged cats and kittens as well. They are new arrivals that have to stay in large cages for one to two days. You are able to pet them through the cage though. There is plenty of lounging space for humans and cats alike. It truly is lovely to just sit and watch them and petting them of course is just the added bonus. Most of the cats are adoptable and from what I see on social media they go rather quickly. Hands down recommend this place if you are thinking of adopting. It is nice being able to watch them and get a feel for their behaviors before committing. read more

I'm. A. Heel. Why? Because I really feel like I should be giving Whiskers 5 stars because I LOVE what they're trying to do here and I really want them to do well, but the execution is a tad bit off. Also, I'm over-the-top thrilled that there's a cat cafe in KC! Woohoo! So here are the pawsitives: Cats! The people are very nice and clearly love cats and care about their welfare. They have built a lot of stuff for the cats to climb on, which is really kinda cool. The cafe mocha was pretty darn tasty. Some of the cats are up for adoption and they reported that they have adopted a bunch of cats out recently which makes me very happy. They partner with a local shelter, so they're giving some cats a chance at a furever home. They have some cool mugs. I really wanted one, but they were too busy on our way out for us to buy one. :( Here are some things they could improve: The stairs at their main entrance in the back of the building are a bit treacherous and lack a handrail. If you are not fully able-bodied, you should definitely call ahead to use their handicapped entrance on the other side of the building for safety. There are two very cat-friendly spots in the building near the windows where there is fluffy carpeting. That sounds great, right? Well, it's not so great if most of the cats want to congregate there and people have staked out a claim on those locations and stay there for the entire hour so that others don't get equal cat-playing opportunities. When we were there, four people had staked their claim on those two locations and there was not really room for other people without feeling as if we would have been invading their space. The way the room is set up, these spaces are small defined areas, which I think is a poor design because it encourages this invasively selfish human behavior. If those areas were not such clearly defined small spaces, then more human:cat sharing and interaction might be encouraged. But given the limitations of the space, I think that it would be good for staff/volunteers/owners to encourage people to move on from those locations after 15-20 minutes to give others an opportunity to spend with the cats. It's not that I didn't get any cat interaction while I was there, but it was limited and my experience certainly paled in comparison to the experience of those people who entered first and were able to grab the prime cat locations. Some other things you should know: They have a great website with good info where you can make reservations. There is a $10 fee. You will be asked to sign a waiver before you visit with the cats. They ask that you not pick up the cats and allow them to come to you. That does make it a bit difficult to spend time with the cats when most of them are congregated in two areas. There are some areas that are "cat only" areas where some cats were sleeping while we were there. There were only 8 cats that were out and about, 4 of which were "resident" cats that were not up for adoption, but we were told there were actually 12 cats there. I think they could actually accomodate more cats. I do think a cat cafe that has cats for adoption is a great idea if you are looking to adopt a cat because you may have an opportunity to interact with a few cats. But at Whiskers, I think "may" is the operative word. I think a lot depends on what cats are out when you're there and if you have access to the favorite cat spots. I would definitely come back and try it again because I do LOVE cats and I want to support them because I think they're doing a fantastic thing. read more
