My Winner of Best Restaurant Week Meal 2026 I hadn't been back to Westport Cafe for a few years but now I'm kicking myself because I've been missing out! I remembered this restaurant being one of my favorites in years past . For some reason it fell off my radar. Now it's shining like a beacon of fine dining French inspired cuisine in Westport, an entertainment district known for a more casual environment. If you are looking for a special date night meal, somewhere for a girls night or just for a treat yourself dinner I would highly suggest Westport Cafe. Let's talk about this incredible restaurant week menu. First was the deconstructed crab cake (which is always on the menu) I would order this dish again and again. The way it was presented was a work of art. All the components were complex and it was fun to eat. It has such an essence of crab without the heaviness deep fried crab cakes usually have. Seafood is special here because the Trout Almondine was one of the best fish dishes I've ever had. It begs to be added to the menu. The sauce was buttery and rich with nutty notes, the citrus cut through the richness so, it didn't seem heavy. The fish was cooked impeccably, I literally had no notes. They know what they're doing in that kitchen! And you know if I can rave about green beans then it was a perfectly executed dish. They had such a nice snap and vibrant green color, they were delicious dipped in that sauce. I cannot wait to go back for another solo splurge meal. This was my second dinner of the evening so I didn't make it to dessert at the restaurant but, I did take it to-go. I'm not a big dessert girl so, it wasn't very memorable however, the rest of the meal is engrained in my mind. I remember back a few years ago I used to go crazy for the muscles here so, I can't wait to sample them again. Also, just a note any menu that has rabbit on it just completes me. It's so hard to find nowadays in Kansas City and it's one of my favorite meats to indulge in. The menu rotates seasonally (as one should) so, I need to rush back in soon before the rabbit leaves. This little place in Westport is the perfect combination of casual elegance. We had a reservation for 5pm, which probably wasn't necessary--though if you're dining after 6pm, I would definitely recommend. Service was fast and friendly. They have a pretty great happy hour menu, which we ended up choosing from so we could try multiple things. Everything was delicious and the flavor combinations were unexpected and wonderful. This is not a cheap place to dine, but if you want to treat yourself, do it here! Sometimes when we dine at a $$$ restaurant we leave thinking, "...that wasn't THAT much better than..." and feel like the food didn't justify the price. BUT this was not the case at Westport Cafe. A hidden gem! Classy and vintage feel inside with a delicious and modern twist in French food and all cocktails. I asked for a non-alcoholic spritz (pregnant) and the waiter and bartender made the best N/A cocktail and wrote down the recipe for me to recreate at home. Incredible! First time trying Westport originally me and my mom wanted to have a brunch so we stopped by to see if we can grab a table however it was a busy Sunday and all the tables were full, but the host was able to grab us two spots at the bar which made the experience even better. The server at the bar was kind and friendly, and ensure that we had menus and was properly serviced I tried the quiche breakfast plate that came with truffle fries, mayo side and ketchup. The quiche was perfectly made crispy crust and amazing egg and bacon combination. Truffle fries were perfectly crisp Parmesan cheese and just a right amount of truffle oil. I sided it with an espresso martini, which was the best choice. I am a coffee lover, and this tasted just like an espresso nice and cold and can't even taste the alcohol which made it a dangerously delicious drink would order again! My mom tried egg Benedict's on English muffin with ham and a side of potatoes and was happy with her choice. She also had a Irish coffee which was delicious warm and the perfect side for breakfast. If you're looking for French food in KC, this is the place. I've loved everything I've had here, and the consistency of quality is impressive. This visit it was freezing cold outside and snowing, so stepping into Westport Cafe was like being transported to another (cozier) place. Westport Cafe is a gem in Wesport and in Kansas City in general. Owned by three French guys, they have captured the French bistro atmosphere and food down to the smallest details. I've been to Westport Cafe for brunch and dinner a few times now and I'm always impressed by the quality of the food. Tuesday is steak night where you get steak with béarnaise sauce for $20 with bottomless fries aka frites. Basically steak frites and honestly it is as simple as that. They execute it immaculately and they are one of the only places I know that do steak frites in the city. Their brunch menu is also fantastic and those lemon ricotta pancakes are a star on it. Service has always been friendly and accommodating whenever I've gone. Plus they do cool collaborations with other restaurants and change their menu to highlight new cuisines and dishes. We went to Westport Cafe for our 4th anniversary. Our server, John, was incredibly helpful. He was amazing with explaining the menu and answering any questions we had about the ingredients and highlights of the dishes. We went backwards with our meal, and started with the Scallops (holy cow, they were so great) and worked our way through some small plates after that for their late night happy hour. The vibes in the restaurant are quaint, high scale but laid back. Classy little date spot, can't wait to come back. Ask for John, his personality and service is unmatched. read more

Had the opportunity to enjoy a great dining experience with co-workers. It's a bit nondescript from the outside but as soon as you walk in you're greeted by a very cool bar loaded with goodness and a bartender hard at work serving up delicious concoctions. First time in here for restaurant week and it was great! The place is cool, it's small and intimate but you can hear yourself think which is nice. Our waiter was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu and helpful. On Tuesdays they have a special on the steak frites so I did that and it was really good. The truffle fries are excellent. To end the night I had the affogato which tasted good, but I would have preferred it come in a different bowl; it was hard to eat out of the globe it was in. Only four stars because our waiter was at our table literally every five minutes refilling our water which made us insane. We had a jug at the table to do it ourselves but he just kept coming, even when no one's cup was half empty. read more

Wow! I have passed by this place for years and never bothered to come in but man am I happy I did! What a dining experience. The staff is very attentive and to me was like a fine dining experience. Everything had great flavor. The restaurant was small but cute with lots of personality. I came during happy hour with friends. We started with the bread service which was a French ciabatta with their special butter. The bread had such a unique taste. Loved the flavors. We all had the house salad which is the arugula salad, on it had lemon and truffle vinaigrette, radishes and grana padano . We also got the barbajuan ravioli which is their house made fried ravioli stuffed with leeks, spinach, Comte, Parmesan and ricotta and there was a dipping sauce with it. The summer risotto was very flavorful and had basil pesto, carrots, cherry tomatoes, almond, red onion and Kirby pickles. You can add scallops but we did not. I ordered the crab and lobster roll and I was very satisfied. I am from the east coast and I know my lobster. I had recently stood in line for 3 hours to have cousins Maine lobster roll and it doesn't come close to this. What a succulent juicy roll. It's a nice size and the amount of crab and lobster was satisfying. I ordered truffle fries to go with it. We also ordered the steak frites and that had great flavor too. We added the steak au poivre for $6 and the steak was cooked perfectly. I was so happy with my service I returned a week later and had brunch here. My advice to you is make a reservation because it is a popular place to have brunch. I ordered the croissant breakfast sandwich which had scrambled eggs inside but they were scrambled eggs that were so perfect, I've never had any like this before. The sandwich also had bacon, chimichuri mayo, I took off the cheese because I should not eat it and I got truffle fries on the side. I also ordered an espresso martini, it was a little bitter in my opinion but other than that. My dinner experience and my lunch experience was sooo amazing! I will be back! I've been to Westport cafe almost a dozen times and always have an amazing time. 10/10 food that is super flavorful and it is clear the chefs are world class. Their food is on the pricey side but worth it. They have some of the best cocktails in town and I would consider myself fairly picky in that regard. It's a great date night spot. Service is always amazing, everyone is kind and always quick to attend to their customers. My favorites include the scallop truffle risotto, the salad, and the croque madame always hits. My only critique is that I wish they changed the menu more often and I hate being sat near the bathrooms in the back. read more

Yesterday was my 6 month anniversary with my boyfriend, and while it's not really an "official" anniversary, we still wanted to mark the occasion with a nice dinner. There's very little waiting space so if you don't want to be stuck potentially waiting on the pavement in the winter time, get a rezzie. That said, there only seemed to be one party of 2 waiting at any given time. We had a very nice waiter who got to our table relatively quickly. I put in an order for the Fair Apple cocktail and the barbajuan ravioli. Later my boyfriend ordered the Gascogne. I really liked my cocktail. I'm a fruity drink girl and that one could have been dangerous. Very caramel apple-y. My boyfriend's drink was similar to a Manhattan and he enjoyed it. The ravioli were SO yummy! The order came with 5, which I get from an aesthetic perspective but annoyed as a pair that we had to split the last ravioli the filling was so good and the sauce tastes like a light mushroom soup. My boyfriend ended up eating it as a soup when the ravioli was gone! For our entrees, I got the scallops and my boyfriend got the brisket. I loved mine. The citrus vinegar really cut through the richness of the risotto and the scallops. I didn't get a pic of my boyfriend's dinner but the plate was really beautiful. He really enjoyed it and the bites he shared with me were delicious. We ended with the profiteroles, since my bf is an ice cream fanatic. I loved the egginess of the choux and it was a lovely end to the meal. Throughout the meal, service was prompt and very friendly. Was looking for a restaurant for late night eats and found Westport Cafe. Decided on Westport because it had a cute vibe and the reverse happy hour looked ideal. When we arrived around 10pm, the bar was pretty busy so we opted for a table towards the back of the restaurant. I was a little hesitant because there weren't many customers sitting in the back and joked with the server with a light hearted "don't forget about us back here" type of comment. Welllll that's exactly what happened. Our main server failed to come by our table multiple times to the point that another server saw and tried to get us taken care of. We ordered our drinks and food together because of how long we had been waiting. I ordered the reverse happy hour steak frites as it was recommended and the pictures looked good. I was not disappointed, the steak and fries were great. The drinks on the happy hour menu were reasonably priced as well. This is where everything goes south. When we finished our meal around 11pm, we were asked if we wanted to try a dessert option. I agreed and ordered the madeleines. After waiting literally 20 minutes, I had to shout to get my servers attention. When she came over, she said the kitchen said it will be 2 minutes. She also agreed to take the $5 dessert off the bill. 10 minutes later, I was brought the most burned inedible dessert I have ever seen being served in a restaurant. It should not have been served to begin with. Period. I still tipped 20%. We were nothing but nice to the servers and received horrible service, felt neglected basically the entire time, and then topped it off with burned inedible food. Westport Cafe was fantastic! I'm not typically a huge French food fan, but this isn't your old school style French food. The menu is diverse, unique, and fun. We started with some appetizers of the French Nachos (Sunchoke chips, creamy local mushroom, candied fresno, kirby pickles, and KS Cheddar Foam) and Beet Salad (Gold and red beets, goat cheese, candied pecan, frisée salad, French dressing.) Both were delicious and more than enough to share with a group. My meal was the winter vegan risotto (Butternut, mushroom, celery, carrot, almond, candied fresno and pumpkin seeds.) This was a huge portion and SO flavorful. My mom had the pea ravioli, and the brown butter lemon sauce put it over the top! It is one of the few meals I've ever seen her completely finish. Perfect if you're looking for a casually fantastic place in Westport. I've never had a problem getting a table, and the dishes are all fun plays on classics. On my last visit, I had the Lamb Ragu and the Pea Ravioli. The Pea Ravioli was the standout. I was so surprised by how much I enjoyed this one since the sauce was a brown butter and sage base. Brown butter and sage is a fine-dining classic but I usually never order it because it's often heavy, greasy, and overly herbal. This Pea Ravioli sauce was none of those things. The acid from the citrus, the freshness from the peas, and the mint lent the sauce a certain light, refreshing touch and I loved every bite of it. The Lamb Ragu seemed underseasoned in some bites even though it wasn't because the sauce relied heavily on the lamb, but the overall dish was good. I'm a sucker for fresh pappardelle, and the texture and chew of the noodles was perfect. I also appreciated the notes of mint and the sourness of the pickled onions, which acted as palate cleansers and made the dish seem more cohesive. Overall, this is a great place to grab brunch with friends or a date night dinner. Westport Cafe has been around much longer than most of the other innovative restaurants in KC, and that's a testament to both the quality of its food and its staying power. read more
