There is a good amount of seating inside with colorful decoration of pac man. I ordered the Mango Milk Tea with black tea and boba. It was reasonably priced at $5 something. The boba was chewy and milk tea with mango syrup was good! It was very refreshing on this 94 degree weather day! I would come back! Refreshing cold drink for a hot day! It was my first time at Tea Ninja (we really got a lot of boba options in Ann Arbor over the past several years!) so I ordered a go to - Taro milk tea. It's easy to order on a kiosk, and they do all the customizations (ice, sugar level, toppings). I got a medium iced Taro milk tea, 30% sweet, regular ice, add lychee jelly. It was good! Hit the spot. The level of sweetness and ice was just right. Lychee jelly was the perfect amount of chewy. The flavor of the tea was good, and actually tasted like tea. I didn't ask, but given the tea taste, I'm thinking this taro has caffeine (at other places, sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't). I went to Tea Ninja the first time just a couple of months after the pandemic started in 2020. I got easily some of the worst drinks I had ever had - a "milk tea" that was so watered down it was almost indistinguishable from water, and boba that was so hard it was as if they added raw ones straight from the bag. It was easily a 1 star drink. It's been a couple of years since then and I figured I would give it a try again. Maybe the pandemic woes hit Tea Ninja hard? Then again, when we got here early afternoon for this visit, the shop was almost completely empty, unlike how crowded the other boba shops in the area usually are. Not a promising sign... Against our better judgement, we still got two drinks: Ninja Milk Black Tea, Large, 70% Sweet, Less Ice w/ Boba ($5.95) - First of all 70% sweet here is less sweet than 25/30% sweet at other shops, so just be aware of that. The drink itself was not great - the tea was quite astringent due to the low sugar levels. It also had a very peculiar taste that wasn't very pleasant. Hard to describe. Perhaps due to low quality tea and creamer? The boba came in several different sizes, some mini, some small, some larger. As a result, the texture was not consistent - some were too soft, some okay, some too hard. Also they were very stingy with the toppings; they only give about half the amount of boba as other shops. Honestly this drink felt a like a waste of calories. We ended up not finishing it. Dragon Fruit Tea, Large, 100% Sweet, Less Ice w/ Ice Jelly ($6.15) - Extremely artificial fruit tasting. Think of the most generic and artificial fruit flavor you've had and this is that drink. The ice jelly came in a big block that was floating at the top, so there was no way to actually get to it until we were down to the last of the drink. It's probably my own fault for getting this one - fresh dragonfruit has a very mild taste, so I guess I was expecting too much. I thought it would be at least as decent as a Starbucks dragonfruit refresher, but it turned out to be much worse. Tea Ninja feels like the quality of a boba shop that is the very first one to open up in a new city, where the residents don't know what good boba is. At 30% sweetness it was still quite sweet for me so I'm glad it wasn't any sweeter. My daughters split the Strawberry Slushy and enjoyed it. Place: This place is one of many boba places at AA. This place has a cute ninja themed boba shop. They are v covid friendly and at one point they gave a free boba to frontline workers at the peak of covid so that was super nice. Service: The service is really good. Although initially I've been fond of Tea Ninja's drinks, lately it has been a limiting and confusing experience, I've come to know that the majority of their drinks have caffeine and diary, and despite the fact they claim to have vegan drinks they still use diary creamers that are or are not diary? I hear different things from different people who work there. So I had to avoid my favorite Honeydew Milk Tea which cannot be both veganized and without caffeine. They told me that all their drinks have caffeine except for the creme brûlée drinks...but later I've learned that they are not vegan drinks. On top of that I got 10 stamps before and they credited me a free drink and recently I got 10 stamps and they say that I cannot get a free drink of my choice, but only a milk tea or a flavor tea because it says on the card's fine print (very inconsistent from before). Problem is, if I'm limited to a milk tea or flavor tea, what can I order that has no caffeine and is completely vegan? They really need to accommodate for people who are vegan and don't want caffeine drinks. So I ordered four ninja taro milk (with almond milk), but it was a powdery textured mess and was not good. Even my 4 year old son said, "Tea Ninja, you broke my heart." I agree with him. Disappointed...when there are other boba milk tea places that have more options and alternatives and after points accrued for frequenting their business, they give you a free drink from their WHOLE MENU without limitation. Updating my review -- with so many boba shops in a short radius in downtown, Tea Ninja fills a good niche with their lactose-free options AND vegan options. I truly don't think I've seen such expansive lactose/vegan offerings in all my boba shop frequenting in the US & abroad. So what about for folks, like me, who want all the lactose and dairy fat? Tea Ninja's got you. The business owners very graciously invited me back to try their new dairy option & it was spot on - half sweet is the perfect sweetness. IMO dairy milk really brings out and complements the tea so definitely not as water-y as a lactose-free option (sorry lactose intolerant folks!) It was an accidental visit... I had group dinner plans, was walking around to kill some time and recalled reading about the milk tea shop that opened up... so I stopped by. It was around 6:50 pm, only one table was occupied and the place was empty, most likely either 1) students being on break and 2) there's two other milk tea shops stone throw away from here. I got the Ninja Milk Black Tea, 50% less sweet and since they were out of bubbles, went with lychee jelly. Typically they would up charge for selecting different toppings. One thing that I liked, their milk tea at 50% less sweet was the best, a lot better then other joints. Usually when I order at 50% less sweet, the tea would still be sweet. The staff was friendly and efficient, and I love that they use the opportunity to address us by our names if we ordered on the kiosk. Our drinks were also accurate and exactly what we wanted and expected. They also have plenty of chairs and tables for people to hang out with their beverages. There's street parking available, or you can park at the deck on Maynard St across from HopCat. This chain is also consistent and similarly operated like the other Tea Ninja locations I've been to. As a bubble tea aficionado and proud Taiwanese American, I am very critical of my boba & what constitutes good boba. My friend Kelly and I learned that there were 3 boba places within a 1 block radius in downtown AA!! If Maynard Parking Lot was your center point, there'd actually be 4 boba places within a 1 block radius - we just found out about a newly opened one on State - but I digress! My point is, where were all these places when I was a student at Michigan? I would have loved seven options rather than only the two options I had - Bubble Island / Momo Tea (now called Sweeting). We decided to try all 3 (Tea Ninja, Chatime, & Ding Tea) of these places within one fell swoop - we got 2 drinks from each place - all different so no, we couldn't directly compare - but if you've had as much boba as we have had, you can tell when you're having quality boba. I also recognize that our order was a bit more complicated because we were two friends, who wanted to split two drinks, and because of COVID, we asked if they could put each drink it into two separate cups - half full - giving us 4 cups total. Tea Ninja was a bit confused at first, but after explaining it to them, they were able to satisfy our request despite one of our drinks being very difficult to split into two. I really appreciate their understanding & willingness to do this despite it being slightly inconvenient to keep us safe during pandemic times. We placed our order by calling them, then went inside to pick up the drinks and pay when it was ready. Tea Ninja ended up being my favorite place from all 3 of these locations, which is perhaps a bit surprising because Tea Ninja was founded in Chicago, whereas the other two places were founded in Taiwan! From Tea Ninja, we got 1) a rose milk tea (probably my favorite kind of milk tea) + boba and 2) a taro creme brulee milk + boba. Both ended up being my top 2 favorite drinks out of the 6 we tried that day! The rose was so fragrant within the milk tea & really added a nice element to the taste! The boba was so QQ & sweet, which is a must for boba! And the taro creme brulee, which I was anticipating was going to be too sweet (and I'm not a huge fan of too sweet things) ended up being the perfect sweetness and balance of strong taro flavor, plus a bit of a gritty texture which I loved, and creaminess from the creme brulee milk. I was so pleasantly surprised, this might've ended up being my favorite drink of the day! All in all, I would highly recommend Tea Ninja! Their cups/plastic might've been the "cheapest looking" of the three, but they were also the sturdiest. Additionally, and maybe most importantly, they had the best prices for what we order - each drink came with one topping without extra charge - which a lot of places don't do! So far, I have tried coco, chatime, and sharetea in A2, and, I have to say, Tea Ninja does not disappoint. Here are the ones I've tried (updated regularly): * Taro Creme Brulee Milk with boba -- fresh taro with the chunks and mashed texture. There is also the occasional bit of bruleed sugar in the drink as well. Enjoyed this quite a bit * Lychee slush with lychee jellies -- Since I love lychee, this is probably the best drink i've gotten from a bubble tea place (I used to prefer the strawberry blended ice from sharetea for my lychee fix, but this one is perfect (though the melted ice did have a slight weird aftertaste). Not for the sweet-intolerant. * Rose strawberry tea -- perfect balance of fruity and floral; the rose accents the taste and is not overpowering. Surprised by how much I liked this. * Lychee qq tea -- was hoping to get my lychee fix for a lower price, but the bitterness of the tea (which isn't much) made the jellies taste less sweet and got in the way of my sugar high. Good drink overall, but does not do the job of the lychee slush. * Peach Ice Jelly Tea - so good! On the sweeter side for a tea, but still has some bitterness to balance it out. The ice jelly is a nice touch, but I didn't notice any "peach pulp" as advertised on their menu on ubereats. * 3Q Milk Tea - pretty much your standard bubble tea with herb jelly & pudding. With the creaminess from the pudding and milk, I'll probably go down on the sweetness next time, since the combination made it almost sickly sweet. The Boba is on the softer side, which is my preference. Though if you put it in the fridge, it turns rather hard, making the center almost feel raw... I recommend drinking it fresh if you get boba. The drinks are also decently pricey, but not too different from other places in A2. Overall I continue to look forward to trying their other drinks! read more

Serviceable bubble tea shop right in the heart of downtown Ann Arbor. I dig that this one is right on Liberty. It's nice to have something to stop into when grabbing a bite downtown or heading to one of the movie theatres. I can't recall the entire menu and since I'm a traditional black milk tea kinda gal I didn't dig too deep in, but it is extensive with flavors that vary from red bean matcha to chocolate oreo and fruit flavors like passion fruit, peach, and strawberry. They also have non-dairy options as well. I ordered the aforementioned Black Milk Tea and this one was great. I'm glad you can order it with "less sweet" options, too (I went 50% sweet). Lots of boba and jelly options to choose from, too. They have a few different "slush" flavors, floats, etc. My husband is a fan of floral flavors so I'm intrigued by the rose options for the future. The shop itself is cute with lots of fun Pac-Man type imagery throughout. It's spacious and has plenty of seating as well. Well I'm completely obsessed with Boba now and Tea Ninja is my favorite place in Ann Arbor. It's very convenient to order online and just pick it up. Sometimes I order two or three and just keep them in the fridge. They do use a lot of plastic in the cups, straws and lid, which is my only complaint but I'm still giving them 5 stars because I love this little place. It's very clean, the employees are nice and I LOVE their products. I really like their jasmine tea. But they also have a Rose Strawberry that is delicious. The Macarons are also very good! Alright, so my good friend and fellow yelper, Amanda, and I decided to go around to all of the new boba places in downtown AA and taste test two flavors from the following: Tea Ninja, Ding Tea, and Cha time. We had an odd request--we wanted to share each flavor and asked that they split each drink into two cups (which they did!!!). We ordered the rose tea milk tea and the taro creme brulee from Tea Ninja (50% sugar, no ice). Out of the 6 drinks we ordered from the three establishments, the rose tea milk tea from Tea Ninja was my favorite and the taro creme brulee from Tea Ninja was Amanda's favorite! The milk tea was creamy and lactose free!! The taro creme brulee had the texture of real taro, the kind of texture you would get from taro milk tea in China. Cute boba shop right around central campus! A standout amongst the other boba shops around town for the number of vegan and lactose-free options. The tapioca pearls themselves are definitely the highlight - chewy, slightly sweet, warm, and freshly made! Not like the awful, half-frozen boba you encounter at some other places. There's a wide selection of options and an easy to use touchscreen which details all the options and modifications in case the menu board is too overwhelming. One tip: main "milk tea" is made from milk powder while the "ninja dairy" is made from real milk. They also offer slushees, pudding milks, floats, lattes, fruit teas with jellies, and a decadent "creme brûlée" style drink. They also offer the usual options to customize your ice amount, sweetness, amount of boba, etc. There are some fun options like mango popping boba, real taro, and even Oreo chunks. The standard milk tea itself is average to slightly watery, which is why overall it's a 4/5. There's also a small selection of cakes (tiramisu, red velvet, cheesecakes) and macarons. A few friends of mine and I came back to try again. We tried a variety of new drinks: * Rose Strawberry - less ice, 30% sugar - refreshing and not too sweet - very good rose flavor (I think there were actual rose petals at the bottom of the drink) * Grapefruit float slush - tapioca, no sugar - comes with a creamy, slightly cheesy foam on top that balances out the citrus flavor really well - i wouldn't recommend getting tapioca with this though (they all settled at the bottom; jelly might've complemented this drink better) - naturally sweet enough from the fresh grapefruit slices in the drink; DONT GET EXTRA SUGAR * Red Bean Matcha - less ice, 30% sugar - matcha was well blended - they use a different green tea for matcha drinks than the fruit green tea drinks - the red bean wasn't too sweet * Chocolate Banana slush - 30% sugar - the banana flavor was strong - it's like a nice milkshake alternative Tea Ninja has a lot of promise for improvement. I really appreciate the Yelp Check In offer and the cute interior decoration. The staff and owners are very friendly and passionate about making their drinks and the tea shop a fun place to stay and chat. There's a lot of new competition in the area, but I actually think this place better serves a different crowd than ding tea or coco. For example, their slush drinks are more Americanized versions of bubble tea, like fun shakes or smoothies, and thus aren't the traditional Taiwanese milk teas that other shops might be experts at. Craving boba yesterday, I remembered that I had some snackpass coupons for tea ninja. Often times I would go to Ding or Chatime because they're closer to my dorm, but the 50% coupon I had was too good of a deal to pass up. My friend and I both got the Ninja Milk Tea with pearls, but I added pudding to mine. I was pleasantly surprised by my milk tea with pudding and pearls. Not only was the boba a better consistency than it had been in the past, but the pudding also added delightful creaminess and sweetness to the drink. I got a good portion of each topping, and the order was ready by the time we got there 10 minutes after ordering. The only sad part was that we didn't get the usually cute Ninja cups for our drinks (I wanted to commemorate my friend's first time trying boba). The first time I came, it was their first day of operations, and I was curious so I wandered in. I ordered a rose-flavored milk tea, and to be honest, I was not that impressed. But, since then, they have added a ton of new menu items, and I tried their Grapefruit Float Slush (half sugar), which was absolutely mindblowing! The milk foam top is not very common in Ann Arbor, and the creaminess complemented the tartness of the grapefruit. I ordered a large Earl Grey Milk Teawith extra sugar. Even with the extra sugar it's not that sweet -- which is fine for me. If you like the traditional milk tea, you will enjoy this version. I got it with boba - I personally like the boba at Kung Fu or Ding Tea better, but I believe boba is a matter of preference. I'm just glad I didn't have to pay extra for it like at other places. Here at Tea Ninja, it's not hard and it's not mushy. Good chewiness level. And that is just great in my book. I ordered online through yelp and that was super easy. The accommodations for covid-19 are great - both workers were wearing masks. I have had experiences where I puked after drinking bubble tea because it was so bad. I didn't puke after this which is the only reason why I am giving this place two stars instead of one star. A few months ago I ordered a drink on Snackpass. I walked to the store, waited for 30 minutes, and still did not receive my drink. A few weeks later I ordered a strawberry tea. It was mediocre and you could tell the tea was low quality and the drink was full of syrup. They are also stingy on the boba. Just no. We just came here for the first time. I got the Taro milk tea regular sugar. My boyfriend got the passion fruit QQ 70% sugar. The passion fruit was amazing! Little tart and full of flavor. The taro however, tastes like sugar water. Because of that, I don't believe we would come back especially with all the options. Save yourself the trip and head over to Coco. First time trying Tea Ninja and was not disappointed! The boba were very soft and the drinks were not overly sweet cause sometimes it's hard to tell if it will be too sweet or not sweet enough for my liking. Would definitely go back and try some more drinks! I had the brown sugar latte with honey boba which I would recommend and if you like anything banana, definitely try to chocolate banana slush. read more
