The menu is broad with lots of scrambles and omelets to choose from. They also make potato pancakes and french toast. We got in at a good time before the rush. You order at the counter and they bring the food out to your table. They have a separate barista/drinks person who brought out our fresh-squeezed orange juice, coffee, and tea with hot water in a porcelain pot. We had: *Two eggs scrambled with thick baguette toasts, served with marmalade *Pesto scramble with seasoned vegetables, parmesan and house potatoes *Pot of Earl Grey tea *Drip coffee Everything was served hot and delicious. They're generous with vegetables and cloves of garlic in the pesto scramble. Earl grey is a loose tea with a strainer. Tea was one of the most fragrant I had. Obviously this is very popular among the locals so we felt compelled not to linger around for too long after our meal. CASH ONLY. We forgot cash and the lady at the counter was nice enough to put our order in and hold on to our ID while we ran to the ATM down the street. When we got there at 9am on a Saturday morning, there was barely a line. However, by the time we were done eating just after 10 there was a line almost to the door, so I recommend coming early if you don't want to wait. The service was a bit slow (30 mins to get our food) but the food quality was amazing. I give the food alone 5 stars, but the other factors (cash only, slow service, no wifi) bring it down to 4. Easily my new favorite breakfast spot in Petaluma. Quite the charming little hometown breakfast spot. Nothing too fancy, you walk up to the counter, order your food (and just try and not order a piece of freshly baked blueberry cobbler that's sitting on the counter) and they bring your food to you in about 10 minutes. They have a pretty wide selection of breakfast options from french toast to egg scrambles to delicious freshly made pastries. The Tea Room Cafe is my go-to place for breakfast/brunch in Petaluma. It's one of those places you go to on an early Saturday/Sunday morning to sit, sip, talk, or journal just before the day begins. It's such a lovely place to start out my day. The staff is very friendly and what I assume is the owner, she takes the time to recognize all of her returning customers and their favorite orders. I'm very mixed on tearoom. I love the gluten free pancakes, home fries, sausage and the gluten free scones. The atmosphere and street dining are nice too. I don't like the order at the counter set up, it starts the meal off unrelaxed and the cashier always seems a little uninterested. I also find some of the dishes are quite small for the price. Lastly, the tri tip breakfast dish is a real miss. Tri tip is a tough cut that needs to be slow cooked to break it down and reveal is flavor and quality. While in line and looking at the menu, I told my husband I was considering egg croissant sandwich and the local woman behind me chimed in that it was amazing. I went for it and it WAS amazing!! All the plates coming out looked killer... eggs benedict, omelettes, pancakes. I recommend getting there early on the weekend. It got crowded and took longer for food to come out. The biggest issue and hence the 3 stars, was that it took forever for our food to come. It took a good 30 minutes before it arrived. When brought to the managers attention, she appeared not overly concerned and referenced the fact that the containers are compostable and vulnerable to heat. On a recent visit, our group of a gluten-free eater, a vegan, and a vegetarian German all found something interesting and tasty. Granted, the standard fare for a vegan is the tofu-veggie scramble, so if you're not into that, you might be hard-pressed to find anything else, but they are also pretty good with substitutions, so hold the butter and cheese. I have never had lunch here, but the options are a bit more flexible, with lots of veggie salad and sandwich options. Dinner is fixed price, but there seems to always be at least one vegan main. It's true that finding an actual place to eat is difficult, which is why week days are sometimes the best times to come here, as it's not overwhelmingly busy. Also, the food can take a little while to prepare, but that's usually a good thing. And since the environment is lovely on its own, a little wait never hurt anyone. read more

The lemon cake was a miss, moist only in the middle -for almost $5 a piece, I expected divinity and I got mediocrity. The had free mimosas for the moms, and I appreciated that. The mimosa was good, albeit very light in the alcohol -that's fine with me. I would come back here for the food for sure, but I don't think I will. It was not a very pleasant breakfast. You got to stand in line in forever, yes, forever, can't grab a table until you order, can't find a menu to look at while waiting when it's busy, so of course it takes a long time to place the order once you make it to the front of the line. You feel bad cause you know you're holding up the line. You rush. Whatever, it's breakfast, and I like pretty much all breakfast items, oh, yeah maybe add a cake piece too, which one, I don't know, lemon looks good. Guy behind the register makes things worse. He hates us, I can tell. Or maybe he hates his life, I don't know. Either way, Mr. Grumpy didn't even make eye contact, let alone say good morning or thank you, though I did sense some smugness when my husband said, "I'd like a mimosa too." You are lucky you find a table to squeeze your party in, then you wait for a while, then the food comes and you eat in this tiny packed place, while people are lining up behind you, others are trying to make it through to find the restroom, and everybody is extremely loud. Had a great brunch at Tea Room Cafe on my drive up to Sonoma. The tea was spectacular, and it's called Tea Room Cafe, so I'm giving it a full four stars. Missing the fifth because it lacked nice seating and we had to wait in line (no table service). We had the Peach Apricot Black Tea. I really loved Tea Room, but I don't know that I'd go out of my way to go here again. As a brunch place it was probably only 3 stars. I had a great chorizo and Pepper omelet, but my date wasn't able to order the croissant she had been craving as they were out. Since there's no table service, it's not the most classy, but we were able to get an outdoor table, which was nice. Overall, great for tea, good for lunch/brunch. I've been to this cafe twice for breakfast. I saw a sign that said they serve breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea. My husband discovered this place without me and has eaten there many times. He swears they have the best french toast he's ever tasted. I have not tried the french toast, but my husband is picky about food and I tend to trust his judgement. I appreciate that one of the side options for breakfast is a lightly dressed serving of fresh greens. For me it was a nice alternative to heavy potatoes with my breakfast. They make their bread (most if not all of it) in house. Today I had the 2 egg breakfast with greens and two thick slices of delicious, buttered sourdough toast and a mocha. My husband ordered the Morning Glory Cake along with his scramble. I first tried one small corner of the cake and thought it was too dry to eat. My mistake! The delicious part of this unique toasted cake is the part covered in butter, honey and (surprisingly!) salt! It was very, very good. This restaurant has good food, excellent service and nice folks working there. Why only 3 out of 5 stars? After we ate, I used their bathroom for the first time and it was not clean. The toilet was very dirty. The old antique sink was rust stained--not a big issue by itself, but it was also very dirty as if it had never been cleaned. There was no hot water available and it was difficult to get cold water to wash my hands without touching the side of the dirty sink because the tap was too small for the sink. If the bathroom in a restaurant is not kept clean, I can't help but wonder about the cleanliness of the kitchen. Maybe I'm off base here, but the bathroom is part of a restaurant that is seen by its patrons. Wouldn't an establishment want the bathroom to be nice and clean? If they don't care enough to clean the bathroom, maybe they don't care about keeping the kitchen clean either? I wonder if anyone else has the same opinion as me?
