Lovely quaint Petaluma, a pinch of "Trustifarian", a Mecca for explosive talented artists and musicians with great live music venues. Juxtaposed with some questionable art. IE: Huge paintings of caricature like dogs in fluorescent colors, dreadful landscapes and yarn owls. Also, the antique capital of Northern California, yawn. (money laundering?) A lot of really nice boutique type shops with fine products and a brand new record store, Paradise Found which is quite fantastic. It is also an oasis with goo-gobs of creative talent and cool people you will find. Ranchers, farmers, construction workers, normal hard-working folk, authors, athletes, chefs, sound engineers,sculptors,craftspeople, photographers, and inventors. A full cast of interesting characters. The home of the world's ugly dog contest (I tend to stay away during this event to avoid becoming a contestant) and wrist wrestling championship. Once famous for being the egg capital of the world. I once heard this conversation in a bar, "Hey Steve remember when we got paid to inseminate chickens when we were on acid?" Steve: "Those were chickens?" Sam Shepard would've had a field day here. Some newer buildings made to look old with crafted Styrofoam façades. You get the feeling you're on a movie set, which it has been on several occasions. I lived here for a number of years, a bit of a Peyton Place aura. Nudge nudge, wink wink, say no more. Some of my favorite people I've met in the last 30 years hale from here. And, a disappropriated amount have left this earth too soon. One of the best foodie destinations north of the Golden Gate Bridge. Superb coffee shops and bakeries, some award-winning. So, back in 1999 I took a wrong turn off the freeway and discovered Petaluma and the first place I went was the "Tea Room" and it's still pretty much as awesome as it was then. A real nice vibe, nicely decorated with some incredible pastries to include the orange cranberry scone as I recall, sold out today. My breakfast today was quite good with the walnut toast, and a huge portion of very large potatoes that could've been cut into smaller pieces and maybe I only needed one third of the portion. Dem tatters were 'nuff for four people. Great atmosphere, nice friendly staff, and a very pleasant ambience. There's mirrored signage that says TEA mounted high on the wall across from one another so as to appear as if it were a reflection. I personally can also see the word EAT in there every time I glance at it. I was told years ago that it came from an old Texaco gas station sign. It makes sense, check it out. On Western Avenue. I used to tell folks it's across from the pink Catholic Church rectory. That's been painted to a rather unattractive conservation brown. A lot of nice outdoor seating and cool shops nearby, check out next-door thrift shop and the ever remarkable Petaluma market around the corner, with superb produce display! Famous for cheese, wine, cider, breweries and happy cows! If you're coming from the south cut over through Fairfax to Olema and take the back road up to Petaluma which is a stunning drive! read more

The service at the Tea Room is awful. Every time my husband and I go, the lady that is always at the counter is super rude and unfriendly. She makes the entire experience unenjoyable and it's very frustrating because we are always nice and respectful, and we always tip very well. The straw that broke the camel's back for us, was when we came in and my husband and I were about to order and the place was super busy so no tables were currently open, and two gentleman offered their table to us because they were about to leave, and the lady at the counter snapped at me and refused to let us sit at the table because she thought we had pressured the men into letting us have their table (mind you, we hadn't spoken to them at all before they approached us) . I'm not sure what her issue is, but I have heard from other friends in town that they have had similar experiences with her and it's made them stop going there. The fact that there's more than one gluten free pastry/sweet option makes this place 5 stars. I love their Maddie Palmera, Petaluma Fog, and matcha for drinks. Tea Room never disappoints! Their staff is amazing and their food and takeaway treats are consistently delicious (get yourself a salty malty cookie and/or a scone). Can be crowded during weekend brunch but wicked cozy ambiance and friendly atmosphere so totally worth a brief wait. Highly recommend their salmon eggs benedict if you're visiting on the weekend (I believe it's a Sat/Sun only option) but honestly it's all delicious any day of the week. read more

Woo Hoo, this place was really amazing. My gal pal is a regular, and took us here for a delicious lunch. Everything was so fab! I got a Quinoa Bowl with poached eggs, avocado and veggies. It was so fresh and tasty! My friends got sandwiches and an omelet, and they all raved about the side salad and yummy dressing. I was impressed with how fresh tasting it all was. What a great treasure here in Petaluma, very loved by locals. Great food, comfortable environment, it's a place you want to meet a friend and stay awhile. They often have a gluten free scone that is delicious! Another favorite is KT's Elixir which is heated Lemonade with honey and cayenne which is so nice on your throat! I do have one complaint- Everytime I go I'm reminded I can't get a table till someone has ordered (and kind of brusquely told) I have a dog and I often go with a friend who has a dog so Ii m tasked with holding two dogs - one that wants their mom in the restaurant walking back and forth in front of restaurant till food is ordered. I've seen people with a strlwr and kid in the same situation because the place is small they don't want to take stroller in but can't grab a seat. I've never seen people not be able to get a table so seems like a rule just in case the very rare chance you order and can't find a table. read more

We had the salmon Benedict, bowl of oats, potato cake and chocolate chip cookie. The cookie was huge don't let the picture fool you. I ate the whole thing before I thought about photos. Also not pictured the potato cake. So good I ate in 3 bites and then remembered I should review them. Salmon Benedict we would skip when we come again. The biscuits were dry but flavor was good. Cookie was huge and chewy absolutely a favorite. It was about 5" in size before we devoured it. Good brunch spot in Victorian downtown Petaluma with tasty breakfast items, and friendly but slow service. Cue up to order, then at time of order you'll be assigned a numbered table. That initial line took fifteen minutes. But the real wait at Tea Room Cafe came after putting in the our food order. Total wait from our arrival at the cafe to receiving food: forty five minutes. That's quite a wait. Opting to dial up on my review because the food itself was tasty and their eggs were the right doneness. We had a chorizo scramble, a single order of a smoked Gouda cheesy potato pancake with harissa and sour cream, and a sausage scramble with mushroom and spinach, with eggs cooked lightly, and just right. We left with a delicious malt chocolate chip cookie, called a "salty malty" made in-house. Three stars for service (friendly, but overwhelmed) and four for food. Quaint atmosphere: farmhouse decor full of vintage chachkies, crows and cows. Come here if you like a relaxed breakfast and are not in a hurry. read more

Tea Room Cafe is one of my go to spots to meet up with friends! They have a vast brunch menu, and I have loved everything I've tried. There is outdoor seating which is always a plus, and is located in the heart of downtown Petaluma. The inside has large windows letting in a lot of natural light, and has a cute simple farmhouse vibe. This time I got the vanilla latte which was huge and delicious! It came in a cup that was so large it was practically a bowl. I also got a slice of banana bread (with shredded coconut) and it was just as incredible. Came in for a quick bite to eat on a late Friday morning. They were fairly busy, seems like a popular breakfast/brunch spot. They have a large menu selection for breakfast and lunch. You order/pay at the counter and then they'll bring your food to you. The food was delicious! I ordered a potato cake and an iced chai latte. I will definitely be coming back for more potato cakes in the future. They have indoor and outdoor seating available. Opted to sit indoors since we had a party of 5 and most of the outdoor seating was filled up. Restroom was looking a little run down and dirty. It was very crumbly, which is by design, so adding the jam and butter was awkward. Croissant bread pudding was fantastic! Texture was smooth with a good amount of egg, but not too much that it starts resembling a quiche. Chocolate was decadent and I enjoyed that it was the main flavor profile. Bread puddings can notoriously contain surprise raisins, but this one was straight to the point; delicious chocolatey goodness with eggy croissant. Service - 4/5. Quick and friendly. Water is self serve. Value - 5/5. Pastry prices are standard with the scone being $5 and bread pudding being $6.50. Sales tax does get added as it is a restaurant, not a bakery. Was looking for a new breakfast place and stumbled onto Tea Room. Things you need to know: This is a self seat kind of place. They ask you to order at the counter then they will hand you an number. Take the number and find a table and they will bring your food to you. I walked myself over to a outdoors table that someone just left. The wait staff was really quick at coming out and clearing and cleaning the table. It was a bit of a wait for the food but nothing out of the ordinary for Sonoma restaurants. As for the food we ordered: Smoked salmon toast: there was a good amount of cream cheese, I almost wish there was a bit more salmon but overall the flavors melded well with one another. Potato Cakes: I only ordered one and immediately regretted it. The harissa on top was phenomenal! Sour cream was nice and thick on top of a crispy potato cake. Definitely one of the best I've had. Buttermilk Pancakes: Fluffy and rich, the butter was most melted by the time it got to our table. A good sign imo. The pancake itself was a bit undercooked for my taste but still good. Side of eggs and bacon: bacon was thick and perfectly cooked. Cappuccino: the Hubby enjoyed it. KT's Elixer: warm lemonade with honey, cayenne and ginger. This was prefer for a chilly morning. Seriously, there are a million polite ways to deal with this, that is not one of them. He offered us a choice of 2 other perfectly fine tables, so we sat down, and the staff resumed ignoring us. 5 ish minutes, no contact at all. From our new vantage point we finally saw the small sign, wait to be seated. It might be visible when you walk in, if the place is empty. It should be, given their attitude and performance. Easily one of my favorite spots in Marin/ Sonoma area. I have been coming here since they opened and the quality has never been compromised. The heart and soul of the business is the owner who you will find in the kitchen helping to get the amazing food out to guests always at a reasonable time. Everyone who works there is friendly and helpful. My favorite thing about this place is they have food you won't find in other menus. I love to cook so when I go out I pick spots where I couldn't have made it better myself. I love the cool crow theme going on too. Their decor has always been something I admired. Have enjoyed the Tea Room for years but on two recent visits I was very disappointed with the attitude and quality of food. Went to tea room with a infant, service dog and three adults. We needed a larger table so pushed a smaller table and was chastised by one of the employees. The restaurant was almost empty. The server was brisk in his manner. Ordered the salmon plate. It had one piece of salmon and lots of fill. Not very tasty. I will not be returning. I recommend the Bistro or Della for great food, ambience and service. read more

Oh, WOW!! I'm amazed at how tasty the food Is here!! It's like they squished in the flavor of ten dishes into one. We got the pork curry and crab fried rice. Both were incredible! SO MUCH FLAVOR, balanced and just the right amount of fried on the fried rice, subtle enough curry to not overwhelm all of the other flavors. If I could give this restaurant 10 stars, I would. This restaurant is BUSY in the morning so come early to get a table or plan on doing take out. The food is good though and the lattes are enormous. We had the French toast, the morning glory bread, a cinnamon roll to split, an almond croissant, several cappuccinos, and the frittata. I think the only thing that wasn't devoured was the croissant, but more likely because we over ordered rather than the food.
