Seattle-Area Boba Shop Review #80…read more After a poor boba experience at the Capitol Hill location, I wasn't expecting much out of Meetea Cafe in Redmond. Still, since this is the only non-chain boba shop in Redmond, and I was in the area for an event, I decided to give it a chance. The menu at this location is a bit different, since it doesn't allow tea selection for the milk tea at the kiosk. There are two kiosks even though I doubt this place gets too busy, given that it was just after lunch at 1PM on a Sunday, and there was only one other party inside. Boba Milk Tea, 30% Sweet, 50% Ice w/ Boba ($6.75) - The milk tea is a very pleasing almost orangish color that's actually quite a fragrant, tasting more similar to a Ceylon than an Assam that most other boba shops use. There's a caramelized milky sweetness to the drink, like they use pure condensed milk as a sweetener. It all combines together to give vaguely Hong Kong-style milk tea notes. At 30% sweet, it's pleasingly only slightly sweet, much better than the harsh sweetness at 50% from the other location. Note this drink comes with boba by default, but I wasn't paying attention and ended up adding additional boba (adds 75 cents). At least, I think there was an additional order in the cup, given that it seemed to be a larger amount of boba than is usual. The boba is surprisingly pretty good. While the pearls are smooth, not that sweet, and are a bit inconsistent in size, they have a surprisingly good bounce and the chew is quite good, albeit a tiny bit on the firm side. Overall much better than what I received on Capitol Hill. Milk Tea Rating: 4/5 Boba Rating: 4.5/5 I was really surprised at the quality of the drink I received at this Meetea location. I would happily return for boba any time I'm in Redmond. Bathrooms - One unisex room

Look at the photo, I work at a boba place as well and the lady could not even give me a full scoop of lychee jelly... how stingy can you be.. you can barely see the amount she even gave me... On top of that, when I ordered my drink, iced green tea with creama and lychee jelly, she handed me the wrong drink, just a regular green milk tea with lychee jelly and when I asked her about to she replied in a bit of a snarky way saying that's the drink I ordered even when it literally says in my receipt what I had ordered. Perhaps this is why she was really stingy with my toppings, but I don't think I was in the wrong... Although this is only one bad experience out of multiple good experiences, I don't think I'd risk coming here again especially when boba prices have been increasing...

Their phone got hung up immediately each time when I called 3 times outside the door. Knocked the door and a lady opened the door rudely. No communication of any kind and she straightly went back to her seat and continued playing with her phone. My drink was sitting at the counter but she said nothing about it. No apologies, no eye contact, no talking of any kind. No wonder my order was still #1 when I placed it 40 minutes after it opened. The drink (fruit tea) has a strong taste and smell of sanitizer. I threw away the $8 drink.

We tried the taro sago latte (even at 100% sweetness it was not sweet at all) and the yifang fruit tea with sago (which at 50% sugar was so incredibly sweet, tasted like my entire sugar allotment for the week)! The sago is nice though. For those who don't know sago are tiny, clear, somewhat chewy balls of starch (mouthfeel sort of like the little rice balls in tapioca pudding), and much smaller than the typical tapioca boba. I probably wouldn't get either drink again, but next time I might try the mango pomelo sago or just a regular milk tea with boba.

If you haven't been yet, the entire bakery setup is amazing, but their cakes are the absolute crown jewel. Here is what makes this place stand out: Perfectly Balanced Cakes: As you can see from the beautiful mango cake ,their desserts are a work of art. The best part? They use high-quality ingredients and have significantly less sugar than typical American bakeries. It's light, airy, and not overwhelmingly sweet. Excellent Savory Selection: Beyond the sweets, their savory pastries and baked goods are top-tier and always fresh. Great Service & Cozy Atmosphere: The service here is exceptionally welcoming and efficient. While it's a popular spot, they do have a few seats inside if you want to sit down and enjoy your treat on the spot. Whether you're picking up a signature cake box for a birthday or just grabbing a morning pastry, this place completely delivers on quality. Highly recommended!

From the…read moreoutside, it looks like you occupy one of the smallest spots in the shopping center, surrounded by restaurants and other food places. If I did not look you up, I would not have paid any attention and would have walked by you. I am so glad I did not. Walking into the store, it gave off a Hong Kong type of vibe due to the wallpaper, decorations, and small space. There were a few tables that I would assume were meant for people to sit down; however, it was also occupied by restaurant supplies. One can only assume that most people are here for takeout rather than dine-in. To the left there's a kiosk to place your order. We ordered the original egg puff $5.95 as that was what attracted me to this place. While I watched people come in and order drinks, I wondered to myself if I should have gotten a drink as well. It seemed like people were getting the Milk Tea Coffee $6.15 (large). They did have a large selection of drinks to pick from. As I watched others receive, their drinks, it took me a little longer to receive my food even though I was the first person to order. Then it dawned on me that they probably do not get very many of egg puff orders and had to heat up the machine first, which probably took a while. At first, I was frustrated that the lady behind the counter did not communicate to let me know in advance, but then I saw a customer trying to interact with her: there was a language barrier! Ah, makes sense now! Anyways, I finally got my original egg puff. It was crunchy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. The batter was good, and not bad for the price. I would say pretty good for Seattle. I will come back here again for the egg puff and drinks! Large parking lot, shared with other shops. I believe it's card only, since all the transactions are completed on the kiosk.

They marketed themselves to be a Hong Kong tea bar, but many setbacks that included shoddy service, poorly made food and drink, and inconsistency made this a tough place to patronized. While they had their good and bad days, they failed to capture the HK essence. Decor wise, they definitely had it going on. The interior was memorable, bright, and eclectic. It is probably the one thing they did well, and it was so comfy that it made sense to spend ample amounts of time drinking tea and using the Wi-Fi. Speaking of the tea, their version of HK milk tea was bland and subpar. The taro tea was a tough one, and soon the very crowds that came for the hype, immediately died down once other areas started going downhill. The service was the toughest part, as many workers were largely apathetic and it unfortunately showed.

Seattle-Area Boba Shop Review #99…read more Moge Tee is a chain from Mainland China that also has a couple of locations in Michigan which I've visited and mostly enjoyed. They have a bit higher quality tea than most boba shops that came before them, but have since been overshadowed. This particular location is inside the Nan Noodle restaurant, making it a convenient place to order from while slurping on noodles. They have a kiosk for ordering near the front door. When we visited, there was only one worker who was cranking out a huge order of drinks (I'm talking 20+ drinks). Unfortunately we were behind that large order so it took over 30 minutes before our drink was ready. Dahongpao Bubble Milk Tea, Large, 50% Sugar, 50% Ice ($7) - The taste of the milk tea first starts out very nutty, a bit roasty, and quite sweet (distinct and separate from the sweetener). It then descends into something that's almost a little stale and tastes mildly of rancid fat. I feel like there's a chance that the creamer they used in the drink is old and/or on the cusp of going bad. It's not a super strong taste, but it's there, giving the drink an unpleasant aftertaste. The boba is very good however. Golden pearls, smaller than average boba with great chew and bounce. They are soaked for a while in sugar solution, giving them a sweet taste that penetrates the top layer of the boba. Due to the soak, some of the boba sticks together into larger balls, and the exteriors have a softer velvety layer rather than being smooth. Milk Tea Rating: 1/5 Boba Rating: 4.5/5 I have to assume that their drinks don't normally taste rancid... Maybe something was just wrong with my taste buds that day? Then again, given my disappointment, I visited another boba shop right after and that one tasted fine. Note: My rating of 3 is because the boba and milk tea have equal weighting. The boba is very good while the milk tea is terrible due entirely to the rancid/stale aftertaste. Bathrooms - Two larger ones, shared with Nan Noodles.
