A lot of people seem to be mad that this place is not a "fine dining" experience. It's not that. It's a quaint, local tea shop. It's more of a quirky, charming tea experience than a super traditional or elevated one. It delivers on what it promises, albeit at a high price. So many cute decorative details, and I appreciated that there is a separate shop where you can buy from their menu. I loved my tea-the wild cherry and coconut black teas were my favorites. And I would say the afternoon tea platter had a great variety that was consistently tasty. I do wish there was more protein (especially for the price), but I suppose it's supposed to lean more towards crudité than a heavy meal. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a fun girl's activity, and I would recommend the tea shop to anyone who likes tea. Would definitely go again. read more

The tea room is definitely decorated and they have a large tea selection! Unfortunately the food for afternoon tea was just okay? It's $75 per adult and $36 per child for weekend afternoon tea though, so while I wouldn't necessarily say it's worth it.. They accommodated our vegetarian request and a nut allergy with no problem and the food was tasty. We got the high tea tower and had some food left over to take home. Going to tea is a nice, whimsical and girly experience and this place in Seattle provides that. The food was delicious (the soup shot, sausage roll, and tea sandwiches) and we enjoyed the tea options (I got a black currant tea). That being said, they are overdue for a renovation and thorough cleaning (or ripping out the carpet and replacing with more updated surfaces that appear clean to the naked eye). It's not a cheap experience and I've been here a couple of times with no changes to their space. A girlfriend and I decided to try the all-day afternoon tea set, and unfortunately the experience didn't meet our expectations. The restaurant was nicely decorated for Thanksgiving, with plenty of British memorabilia tucked into every corner, but the tables were placed so closely together that we were practically squeezed into a corner with barely any space. When the tea set arrived, I was disappointed. The food items tasted like they came straight out of a package and were simply plated on each tier--not the fresh, charming experience you'd expect from afternoon tea. The one highlight was their tea selection, which was actually quite good. What really soured the visit was the service. When we were seated, the server never mentioned there was a time limit for the seating. Yet partway through, we were abruptly told to vacate our table even though we weren't finished with our food or tea. The pastries include scones with chantilly cream, zucchini bread, white chocolate walnut brownies, and pork sausage rolls. For sandwiches, they have chicken almond with mustard butter and english cucumber with mint butter. They include a small sipping glass of carrot ginger coconut soup. In between the service, they also bring out a trio of sorbet with shortbread shaped like mini teapots. The experience includes a personal pot of tea for each guest. The tea list to choose from is massive and the steeping time depends on the type of tea. Not to worry, they do provide a helpful hour glass to help determine when the tea is ready. They will also offer to refill the hot water if necessary. My favorites are the Alice in Wonderland, Lemon Chiffon Rooibos, French Vanilla, and Queen's Royal Afternoon. Queen Mary Tea House is a "refined" fine dining establishment claiming to deliver an elegant and formal British afternoon tea experience. And certainly, you will get an experience, just one where you are deceived, scammed, and held hostage to your reservation. When calling to make a reservation for Saturday at 2pm the employee on the line made no mention of crucial reservation policies such as: Full meal policy. Each person in the group must order a "full meal". Cancellation fee. If you cancel your reservation within 72 hours of your reservation time OR if you decide to leave without ordering, you must pay a fee of $25 per person. The employee also failed to mention that the only available "full meal" during our reservation time would cost over $90 per person, leaving my friends and I feeling deceived and frustrated. This made for one of the worst customer experiences I have ever had. As there was no escaping the situation without incurring a $100 cancellation fee, we decided to stay in hopes of high-quality service. The food: 1/5: Miniscule portions, very dry baked goods, minimal ingredient sandwiches, and unwashed fruit. The scarce serving of fruit, especially the grapes, was literally covered in dust and dirt. The tea: The tea itself was a 3.5/5, and perhaps the only saving grace. We ordered the Alice in Wonderland Rooibos, Crème Brûlée, Darjeerling, and Raspberry Crème. My favorite was the Alice in Wonderland Rooibos; it was mellow, earthly, smooth, and a little sweet. Next would be the Crème Brûlée, with a delicious aroma and bold, rich flavor and an overall sweet profile. The presentation: The entire tea set was mismatched. In traditional, formal British afternoon tea it is customary for the porcelain saucers, teacups, and teapot to match each other. In the high season of afternoon tea only a peasant would be caught with a non-porcelain tea set, let alone a mismatched set. For such a "refined" tea house, being served a mismatched tea set and a metal tea pot was a slap in the face. For a better tea experience per $, just go to Tea Republik, an establishment that makes no claims at fine tea experience, yet outperforms Queen Mary's on all counts of business ethics and dignity. read more

The biggest problem was the food was very average except for their carrot soup which was very good but came in a tiny shot glass. We had rotten black berries with our 2nd tower that had misc fruit. There is only street parking which can be difficult because it's a busy street. You have to put your credit card info down to make a reservation. It cost $60 per person for some rotten fruit, small positions of mediocre food, shot glass soup was great and the tea wasn't bad but it's literally tea, you can't really mess that up. I've had this place bookmarked for years! I've only done afternoon tea once when I first moved to California when I was 19 & was so excited to find one in Seattle. Finally, I found a friend mutually interested in trying afternoon tea out with me so she made the reservation & we finally came in today. First off, it's really crowded/cramped so be prepared for that if your claustrophobic like I am. Also, don't mistake the tea shop / gift shop as the actual restaurant because that's what I did. The super flowery building is the shop & the blue awning / sign is the actual restaurant. Second, my friend was running a few minutes late so I got to sit & observe first. I saw the servers explain to other tables what afternoon tea is all about, etc. When my friend came, we weren't even given a proper introduction to how the experience works. We ordered a pot of Royal Rose tea... looked at the ONE afternoon tea course/set... I was all for the pastries but the savory was not to my liking. When I sat down I also noticed the bowl of sugar was not covered properly. I mean COVID still exists but not only that, I notice this place is "kid-friendly" & I can't begin to imagine... how many unsupervised kids might be putting their fingers into the sugar bowl because it is enticing to look at being all pink, sparkly, & tempting to touch if I were a kid. It may be my fault I didn't research the menu before coming but I really dislike goat cheese & cucumbers. There's no substitutions & again, no alternative courses. So we looked at the lunch menu... everything was meat-based, I personally do not eat meat... so my two options included a $30 veggie sandwich or a $24 meatless salad. We then asked if there was a separate menu for just pastries, our server brings us a metal tray with some desserts tacked onto it & after spending about 10 minutes waiting for our server to finally come back, we made our decisions & then she reluctantly lets us know... that because we made a RESERVATION, we had to order the afternoon tea OR a lunch item [each]. Is that ridiculous? Or is it just me? Again, my friend mentioned when she made the reservation, no where did it state for her saying that by making a reservation we have to commit to ordering a the afternoon tea set or entree. So we just let out a huge sigh, she ordered the soup & salad, I ordered a salad... I can't believe how much we were spending on some greens. Also, the server thought we STILL wanted the pastries... after our salads so I just wanted to double check, I told her after she dropped off our entrees, "just so we are clear, we are going to pass on the pastries we ordered prior to our entrees" ... her friendly attitude immediately turned sour & acted rudely after. The server didn't visit us again after... our "meals" were dropped off on our table... my friend had to go so we ended up walking up to the front to close out our checks... standing awkwardly. As first timers, this gave me the impression that they are just trying to rack up our tabs & try to squeeze all the dollars out of us. All of their entrees are $28-30... I don't even know what the portions are like but that's just ridiculous. They really need more vegan options as well. Not everyone is "vegetarian". Fun fact, I'm also allergic to cherry tomatoes, apples, & other fruits... my salad had cherry tomatoes. Too bad the menu doesn't explain what is in their "seasonal" green salad while my friend's salad came with apples. As an opening to the afternoon tea experience, a fruit sorbet trio with a delightfully rich shortbread (perfect with tea!) is served - we enjoyed the trio of spiced pear, cranberry and boysenberry sorbets, with the spiced pear being simply incredible. A freshly baked, warm cranberry orange scone is served with Chantilly cream; jam and marmalade available upon request. Lemon curd available for $5. Afternoon tea desserts comprised of iced gingerbread, pecan bar, snickerdoodle (the perfect bite of chewy happiness!), cherry chocolate brownie. Fresh fruit was beautifully fresh, sliced and plated. For afternoon tea, would somewhat prefer individually handmade desserts rather than bar desserts. Tea sandwiches leave something to be desired, we loved the savory tomato basil soup which accompanied the sandwiches. Of the savory tier, the roasted vegetable quiche and sausage roll were outstanding, while the rest were rather forgettable (English cucumber with mint butter, chicken almond with mustard butter, smoked salmon mousse on rye). We always enjoy afternoon tea at Queen Mary. We've been coming to their establishment for years for birthdays, events and with friends/family who enjoy tea. The food towers are so cute and delicious, and actually pretty filling. It's also nice they can substitute some of the items for dietary restrictions. Their regular food menu is also really good if you don't want the afternoon tea setup. They have a lot cute and festive decor as well, depending on the season. And I do love how they have a tea emporium where you can buy the different teas they have. I only gave them 4 stars instead of 5 because sometimes it can feel cramped inside given the small space and how the tables/chairs are so close to each other when next to another party. The bathrooms have fun decor, but they're also very tight and narrow. It's hard to move around comfortably. Overall, it's been a great experience there. read more

Loved the atmosphere right off the bat. We sat in a beautiful decorative table. Lots of nice decorations around. I could have just sat here, soaking in the ambiance for my whole stay. The interior decor is unabashedly and undeniably British, so it sets the right tone right when you walk in. It was very packed yesterday and it was a little hard to get in and to get to our table. I think for bars and maybe some restaurants, that's ok. But for Afternoon Tea, I felt so congested and slightly claustrophobic coz the tables were so packed, the whole place was packed, it was loud and I couldn't really hear myself half the time. The service was very slow. This could be because they're just so busy and short staffed. But I took 20-30 minutes before someone got to our table to get our orders. They didn't really check in on us either. Now, onto the food. It was a hit or miss, and mostly misses. The chicken sandwich and the bite-size quiche were good, but not stellar by any means. Some of the pastries were not bad, but the others were bland at best. The fruits look like they've been out for a while so I didn't even want to touch them. The best part about the place was the tea, which is good for a tea place! I got the Black Currant; my friends got the Mango Passion Fruit (my fave), coconut, toasted rice, and one other tea that I already forgot. They also sell teacup sets and some other souvenirs. Booked this experience knowing we were going to be visiting Seattle for my boyfriend's birthday. Hands down one of the best tea rooms we have ever been to. The ambiance and how everyone got all dressed up to have high tea. To the wonderful service that Adriana provided us. She was helpful in making changes due to our coconut allergy, knew when to come around and ask if we needed anything, and overall kind!! She was fairly knowledgeable on tea's and recommendations. Can't stop raving about this place! Highly recommend giving them a shot! Definitely a place we will return on our next adventure to Seattle. read more

Best afternoon tea ever! I am a fan of tea parties and have tried multiple tea parties, however this is the best one!!! The food was delicious. I was able to replace some of the sweet items with more sandwiches as I was not in a mood for too much sweet. My favorite was the Christmas cookies tea (holiday special menu). It is the best tea I ever had! Our server was very nice. Very courteous. She was good at what she does. The ambience was beautiful, so christmasy.
