I almost did not want to write this yelp review because I just want to keep it to myself. From the outside, it looks like you occupy one of the smallest spots in the shopping center, surrounded by restaurants and other food places. If I did not look you up, I would not have paid any attention and would have walked by you. I am so glad I did not. Walking into the store, it gave off a Hong Kong type of vibe due to the wallpaper, decorations, and small space. There were a few tables that I would assume were meant for people to sit down; however, it was also occupied by restaurant supplies. One can only assume that most people are here for takeout rather than dine-in. To the left there's a kiosk to place your order. We ordered the original egg puff $5.95 as that was what attracted me to this place. While I watched people come in and order drinks, I wondered to myself if I should have gotten a drink as well. It seemed like people were getting the Milk Tea Coffee $6.15 (large). They did have a large selection of drinks to pick from. As I watched others receive, their drinks, it took me a little longer to receive my food even though I was the first person to order. Then it dawned on me that they probably do not get very many of egg puff orders and had to heat up the machine first, which probably took a while. At first, I was frustrated that the lady behind the counter did not communicate to let me know in advance, but then I saw a customer trying to interact with her: there was a language barrier! Ah, makes sense now! Anyways, I finally got my original egg puff. It was crunchy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. The batter was good, and not bad for the price. I would say pretty good for Seattle. I will come back here again for the egg puff and drinks! Large parking lot, shared with other shops. An obvious nod to Michelin (米芝莲), things never truly materialized for this Bellevue marketplace location, despite being one of Asia's semi well-known chains. They marketed themselves to be a Hong Kong tea bar, but many setbacks that included shoddy service, poorly made food and drink, and inconsistency made this a tough place to patronized. While they had their good and bad days, they failed to capture the HK essence. Decor wise, they definitely had it going on. The interior was memorable, bright, and eclectic. It is probably the one thing they did well, and it was so comfy that it made sense to spend ample amounts of time drinking tea and using the Wi-Fi. Speaking of the tea, their version of HK milk tea was bland and subpar. The taro tea was a tough one, and soon the very crowds that came for the hype, immediately died down once other areas started going downhill. This place gets a five star alone for their bubble waffles. They are simply the standard that should be met at all other places. The bubble waffles are light, crispy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. I love the large assortment of flavors and options for bubble waffles too. They only have one bubble waffle machine so if you order several the wait may be a little longer. The mango pomelo sago here was not my favorite. There are other places that I would go to to this for. Self service kiosk is available to place your order however someone did order at the register. It may take a few moments to get someone's attention to get help if you have a question or need something. So patience will be a virtue here. The place itself has a super cute set up. There a few tables to sit and enjoy your tea and waffles. I will definitely try another drink on my visit. Overall a solid 3.5 because I didn't enjoy my drink. I have visited this shopping center numerous times and never realized Mai Chi Lin resided here until I saw photos of its exterior on Yelp. The signage on the storefront reads "Hong Kong Tea Bar" in large letters, so it's super easy to miss their actual name. This is a little shop where most people take their tea to go, but there are a few tables inside. It appeared that the employees stored their personal belongings at the table closest to the counter since there were a couple backpacks sitting there, but we were the only customers at the time. Interestingly, a bottle of Robitussin was out in the open on the same table which wasn't a comforting sight. Was one of the employees working while sick? Compared to other boba tea shops, the drink menu is on the smaller end. Not that I minded too much; it helped me narrow down what to order. I didn't see any indication that drinks could be customized in terms of ice and sweetness, but when I asked the cashier he said they could be. Apparently, that's not true for all of them though... like for the Mango Pomelo Sago, which was my first drink of choice. I opted for my second pick which was the MILK TEA COFFEE ($5.35 for medium size + $0.50 for boba), listed under their Classic Hong Kong Drinks. I requested it with light ice and 0% sugar. When served, my drink was unexpectedly warm and any ice was completely melted. To provide some perspective, it was a chilly day and this was actually warming up my hands. As for the flavor, it tasted like a weak coffee and weak tea mixed together. However, I still ended up getting a caffeine buzz from it, so that was surprising given that it didn't taste that strong. The boba was also on the softer side, on the verge of being mushy. Based on this experience, I don't think I'd return again for tea considering all the other boba tea shops in the area. I would like to give negative star if it let me for the service! I ordered Silk-stocking milk tea with boba + grass jelly. My drink was bad. The grass jelly texture was not "Jelly" as it should be , it's mushy like wet powder and melted all in my drink. HORRIBLE I tried to ask the lady worked there why the jelly likes that, but she only speaks Chinese to me even i don't understand a word. I tried to use google translate that the jelly texture so weird and it made my drink taste so bad and asked nicely if she can replace it without that jelly . Their silk stocking milk tea is great and one of the best milk tea I've had around Bellevue! It has very strong tea flavor, sweet boba, and is not too milky. It's also surprisingly cheap at $5.35 for a medium, especially compared to some boba shops around the area. The mango pomelo sago was only okay, it wasn't exceptional but wasn't bad either. The coconut milk version in particular was bland in my opinion; the coconut milk was unsweetened and overpowered the mango. Whenever I go grocery shopping at Asian Family Market in Bellevue, I stop by Mai Chi Lin for drinks and snacks. Mai Chi Lin is the only place other than Happy Lemon to offer bubble waffles (that I can think of right now). However, Mai Chi Lin has multiple flavors of bubble waffles ranging such as boba, red bean, black sesame, salted egg yolk, and more. It's the most variety I've ever seen for bubble waffles. I haven't tried them all, but I've tried a few and enjoyed them. Customers are limited to ordering two (2) per order as it takes a while for them to make it. As for drinks, I enjoy the Silk-Stocking Milk Tea, Mango Sago Pomelo, and more recently, the Red Bean Coconut Sago. Mai Chi Lin also has other desserts (pudding and ice cream) and light snacks (curry balls) to offer. I'm not done trying everything off the menu yet! Came here on a whim because I was craving some childhood snacks. The exterior of the store is quite unassuming relative to its neighboring restaurants, so you'll have to keep an active eye for the signage. The interior of the place was very cute, decorated in the aesthetic of an HK-style cha chan tang. There seemed to be some seating available, but it was full of supplies/employee items so maybe not. The staff also understood Cantonese which helped with the cha chan tang immersive experience. I got the salted egg bubble waffle. It was prepared quite quickly, in about 10ish minutes. Appearance-wise, it looked quite good. However, it was a tad undercooked for me. The outside was not as crispy and the inside was still a bit too wet for my preference. Additionally, if I didn't look inside to check the filling, I would have thought I was eating a normal, non-flavored bubble waffle. There was no salted egg taste at all. The brown sugar oolong milk tea is not very good. It's really strong tea-vibes which is good if you are in to it. I got half sugar and it tasted like it wasn't sweet at all. Came here after getting dinner at Supreme Dumplings next door! My friend and I completley walked past the shop a few times cause it's a smaller location with no big signs or anything. I loved the interior - it's very cozy and reminds me of Asia! Seating is still closed off at the moment but there are a few chairs at the front for you to hang around for a bit! The drinks were incredible! My friend and I both got the mango sago and the sweetness was perfect! The mango flavors balanced incredibly well, and the drink wasn't too thick like other places I've tried this! I don't think there's a place like this anywhere else in the Bellevue/Redmond area, so I definitely plan on coming back! I was really excited when Maichilin first ie opened, but never found my way to visit but from positive reviews I've heard from friends, I had high expectations. It's conveniently located in the Bellevue marketplace plaza with ample parking so it's definitely bonus points for that. As a kid in Hong Kong, I had distinct memories of HKG style desserts and drinks and some of the best were found by small street stalls. Immediately Maichilin was reminiscent of old school Hong Kong landscape and my nostalgia meter was at a 100%. There's a very expansive, almost overwhelming menu comprised of mostly beverages and some savory and sweet snack foods. Their bubble waffles look to be really popular, however there's a disclaimer that it could take up to 20 mins+ on a busy day so plan ahead! I got the mango pomelo sago drink and I adjusted for a lower sweetness. I really enjoyed it; the mango flavor was outstanding and the pomelo added a great touch. There is no indication of the store on the door or wall (below the awning) unless you hv been there or you are specifically looking to stop here. I was just a few doors down to have lunch and walked past this place a couple times. Got back to my car and saw the sign above the awning and walked back in as I was craving something fun. I would recommend to the owner to improve signage on the store front/door or you might hv missed a few walk-ins in an area full of competition. Been here twice, and ordered the same thing both times. I've ordered the Hong Kong lemon tea, and it's been consistently good. If you've never had this kind of tea before, it's just some sort of black tea, with lemon slices, and some sort of simple syrup. I've also tried the bubble waffle...another staple in the HK street food market scene. Both times it's been good! The people working there bust their butts behind the counters. It's fast and efficient for the drinks. The bubble waffle takes a bit of time to make, but worth waiting for. It had a very powdery taste but the overall flavor wasn't terrible, medium size was smaller compared to other boba shops. Maichilin is a small shop in the same plaza as Asian Family Market, 85C Bakery, near-ish Swish Swish. It's almost hidden, and I even went into the wrong door the first time cuz they were cross-advertising with the adjacent business. Oops. Anyway, Maichilin focuses on Hong Kong style drinks and street (hot) snacks; think HK milk tea, bubble waffles, curry fish balls. *TIPS* - They have their own ordering app, and they offer a 10% off when you use the app. The credit card info needs to be entered, and then you need to go back and select that particular credit card, a bit redundant. The 10% off shows up at the very end before you confirm the order. I've tried only the drinks so far - all are 4 Stars. Drinks were ready in 10-ish minutes during the two times I went. Silk-Stocking Milk Tea This is the original style HK style milk teas are made. It's much stronger and richer than the typical boba milk tea that is Taiwanese style. Be warned it has higher caffeine levels too. Mango Pomelo Sago This is my hubby's favorite drink everywhere. The version here is flavorful. Matcha Milk Cream Float We drank this after giving it a hearty shake to blend the cream and matcha. It has a recognizable matcha flavor. It's great to have a Hong Kong style silk stocking tea place nearby. Traditionally, a strongly brewed tea is passed back and forth through a silk stocking. I don't think very many places do this. I ordered a silk stock milk tea with boba. The boba itself was nice. The milk tea had that characteristically strong ceylon tea. It wasn't too sweet. I would say that it tastes like 50% sweetness at other boba places and you cannot change it. HK milk tea is definitely a different type of flavor so give it a try! I also ordered the curry fishballs. We placed an order online, getting 2 silk stocking milk teas (Large, less ice, regular sugar - which you can't adjust), a regular bubble waffle, a black sesame bubble waffle, curry fish balls, and a mango pudding. We headed over there and got there about 30 minutes after we placed our order. It was ready for us. I would recommend checking your order before you leave, as they almost forgot the original bubble waffle. They did apologize and gave it to me right away. The stocking milk tea is DELICIOUS. It honestly tasted like we were back in Hong Kong. It might be our new favorite milk tea place. The egg waffles were good, not the best. I did like the different choices of egg waffles you could get. The black sesame was nice, not a super heavy flavor though. The curry fishballs were average, I probably wouldn't get that again. Hong Kong style drinks! First thought might be "oh another bubble tea place" but this is different if you really know your Asian drinks. The store was empty when we went and there wasn't really a friendly welcome like you might expect. There kind of was an awkward silence while we read through the menu. We placed our order and then we waited. Even though there was no one else there, it was a decent amount of time waiting. People must have called in orders before us and everyone just seemed to be taking their time with no sense of urgency. Silk stocking milk tea for the win! I visited Maichilin specifically to try this tea and I was happily pleased. This is one of the best milk teas I've had around Bellevue. Maichilin is located off of Bel-Red road in a business strip with many other eateries around. There's designated 30-minute parking right out front that usually isn't taken up, which will be plenty of time to get your tea from here. Though the menu had a variety of different beverages, including snack items, I was determined to not to deter myself from ordering the silk stocking milk tea. I ordered a large and my drink was ready in less than five minutes. The tea was strong, which was exactly what I was hoping for! It's already sweet from the condensed milk that they use, and though I'm not huge on sweetened milk teas, I enjoyed it. It wasn't too sweet, which I was relieved at. The tea though was awesome; I loved how much of the black tea flavor I could taste, as it wasn't too sweet or watered down. YES! This is how milk teas should be. My boyfriend did like it, and he prefers his drinks less sweet. Banana Milk Bubble Waffle $5.85: I wish it had more banana, as the pieces that did have banana chunks were very tasty. But I've also been spoiled by Happy Lemon and now enjoy bubble waffles less if I'm not dunking it in oreo puff cream. I will start off with a tip: don't come here on the weekend if you want the bubble waffle! We came around 2pm on Sunday and it was crazy busy. There was a line of people waiting for their orders and it took about 30 minutes to get ours. I heard a lot of good things about this place so we decided to check them out. I got the boba bubble waffle and the silk stocking tea. The tea was very smooth and the flavor was delicious. The waffle was definitely one of the better ones I had. Perfectly crisp on the outside but still chewy on the inside and the boba in it was soft and chewy. Price was standard. I would have knocked a star for service but their food and drinks are good and interesting enough that I want to go back. We ordered a medium drink and a boba bubble waffle and the cashier that rang us up charged us for a large drink and a regular so we had to wait a little longer for them to fix our order...it was busy read more
