I am new to the Dublin area and needed a barber for my teenage son. So I went online looking for a barber and based on the reviews it was between Teague's and another neighboring shop. My son was in desperate need of a haircut so I took him to the other place & boy was I sorry. My son who had nice pointy side burns were chopped off. Ive been getting my hair cut at Teague's off and on for about the last ten years. More off than on because each time i decided to give them another chance one of the barbers there did something stupid to convince me i made a mistake by returning. Having had my hair cut there often enough over a long enough period of time...the vibe there is (mostly) typical barber shop atmosphere...television, sports, the usual light hearted back and forth (mostly). There's also a tangible underlying passive aggressive pettiness directed at some of the customers, for whatever reason, that makes you realize you want to get your hair cut and gtfo. I'm sure you can figure out what I'm talking about. About a year and a half ago i started going to this shop again thinking the turnover in barbers might have a different outcome. I chose the owner George Teague to be my barber. He gives pretty decent haircuts the majority of the time. At the beginning of 2017 the shop raised prices. Since then if I've had 25 haircuts I've given him a $5 tip 24 times. About six months ago after my haircut i gave him a $100 bill and told him to give me $70 back. When he gave me the change something just didn't seem right (a feeling i got , yeah I know...a feeling is not a fact, but it was real) so I counted it there and he shorted me $5. I told him he owed me five more. He gave it to me without a word. No I'm sorry, no my bad, no my mistake or anything like it. No apology offered, nada. Fortunately there were other customers close enough at the time to witness the interaction and their faces said what i thought. I didn't put too much weight on the 'oversight' because I caught it and believe in giving people a chance. But it put me on notice that if he shuffles the cards I still need to cut the deck. Fast forward to Friday afternoon December 29, 2017. After my haircut I gave the owner a $100 bill again and told him to give me $70 back. (Haircut fee $25 plus $5 tip). He gave me the change kind of folded where all the bills were not visible. I put it in my pocket, dapped him, as i usually did, and walked out. When I got to my car I counted it because he crossed the -innocent until proven guilty line- when he shorted me $5. This time he shorted me $10. I went back in but he wasn't there and one of the barbers asked me what was up? (They saw me walk out about a minute earlier.) I told him why I came back and he said something like , "You gotta count your change with him". I knew that already. The owner walked back in and I told him he shorted me $10. He reached in his pocket while weakly and half heartedly saying "are you sure?". Yeah right, wer'e both sure. He gave me my money and I left. There's nothing like the look on someone's face when they've been caught and confronted in front of others doing something they shouldn't have. But that's also a look you don't want to give or get. There were other customers in the shop that witnessed this interaction too. With all that being said, remember, i was giving him a $5 tip on a $25 haircut practically every time. Not to mention the dap. That's the context that his actions needs to be placed in. Yelp needs to revise its rating scale because some businesses don't deserve any stars. In fact they should get the opposite. That's where my scale comes in... 10 to 1, with 10 being the best (5 stars) and 1 being the worst (5 turds) and the rest of the numbers falling in between... 10=5 stars, 9=4 stars, 8=3 stars, 7=2 stars, 6=1 star. Then the negative ratings start... 5=1 turd, 4=2 turds, 3=3 turds, 2=4 turds, 1=5 turds. I rate this business a 2. That equals 4 piles of hot, stinky, steaming, so sticky you cant scrape it off your shoe, dog $hit. He did give a decent haircut most of the time. Just one mans experience. YMMV. If you're a barber in the Dublin/Pleasanton area looking to open a shop and can competently cut African Americans hair without the bu***hit, you can clean up. read more

I go to Zee everytime and he's got some of the best hands in the business. Say what you want about the atmosphere but I've never been dissapointed with the cut I've received and am often complemented after leaving. Zee's appointments get filled up fast so call a couple days in advance to ensure you get a spot. This ain't a salon or day spa or anything like that. It's just 3-4 barbers that like to rag on each other, watch some TV and know how to cut hair. These guys have me crackin up everytime I go in and I don't mind waiting a few extra minutes for a quality cut. That being said, if you have a time constraint you will probably have to wait so keep that in mind. read more

The first thing wrong about the place was that I was forced to wait for 40+ minutes before I could get my cut. They had two barbers in the shop at the time, one of which being a new employee in training, requiring the other barber to assist him throughout the entire haircut. The haircut itself was lackluster, being that the fade was not actually "faded"; I had to tell this barber to taper it through better. Also, the place was generally unsanitary and messy. So I went in here on Wednesday I believe I called the guy he told me the cut would be $25 I go in and the dudes playin dominos and I walk in and I ask for a cut they tell me to wait till they finish there game now mind you if someone walks in for a cut you would jump out of your seat and take care of the customer but he was to busy trying to win $5. So anyways I sit and wait and the dude comes and ask me what I want I tell him exactly what I want and he takes his sweet ass time doin the cut not once did he ask me if I like my cut not once did he bring a little mirror and show me what my cut looks like I asked him for a beard line up and trim and he did his own thing it blows my mind when someone calls them selves a barber and doesn't even do the job the right way. I'm not a barber but I know how barbers are supposed to be I've got my hair cut for 25 years now and on top of that he charged me $40 for a Boosie ass cut that ling ling could have done better I'm sorry Sam but I didnt like your service one bit. read more

I took my 6 year old son here. The guy who did his hair was rude and he laughed at him when he said it hurt. My son is shy and fro him to speak up and say it hurts is a big thing. It's hard to find a good place to take him that know what they are doing. But I'm going to drive to Oakland before I ever take him there again. read more

Teague's Barber shop is great. The conversations alone are entertaining. If your looking for a calm, quiet environment that's for peaceful minded ppl where the children can enjoy the little kiddy area while pops gets a haircut... Then this is not your place. Teague's is the way a barber was meant to be, a barber shop that's guy friendly. Meant to be an environment that guys can get a fade and get some laughs. Teague's barber shop is simply unprofessional. Their customer service was awful and their appointment system is absolutely flawed. They use an appointment that is 30 minutes before the customer is actually there as an excuse to not cut a walk in that has been waiting there for almost an hour or more. On top of that some of their barbers actually don't listen to what you want, they just do their own thing. I came in there one time and I told the barber that I did not want anything off the top.. and what does the barber do he takes out his scissors and cuts the top. worst service i've ever gotten had an appointment and still had to wait over 15 minutes, and I had to pay for my appointment lots of foul language used inside NOT A PLACE FOR KIDS or respectable families!! i believe they were gambling and i smelled alcohol on mr teague. they charge 17$ and mr teague will sit there and stare at you before he offers you a haircut because he's probably trying to sober up. read more

I've been going to Teague's for more than 25 years, last one was 1/18, and I only get my hair by George. I have had occasions to get hair cut from others during that time (extended out of town) and when I return, even with the growth George can tell. I recently read a review on this site which I find contradictory to my experience for this shop. First, George can do anything you ask him to do with a pair of clippers. Second, George is an honest man and if he shorted anyone, it would have been a mistake. He might take it from you on the Domino table but not otherwise. Third, this is an "ole time black barber shop" with a lot of smack flying back and forth and sometimes a hot domino game in the middle of the room. Fourth and lastly, George takes no s**t from anyone. If you're looking for this type of place and can handle the heat, (careful what you say) you'll get an excellent haircut and enjoy the experience. I always enjoy the experience and my wife always comments on the quality of the cut, she's even considered going there on occasion to tighten up her kitchen. As it says above, As good as it gets. Ok...my first review on this account. I usually don't do a lot of reviews but felt like I absolutely had to do this one. I took my boys to the shop on Saturday - the third time I had them cut there but not on a regular basis. My boys and I have decided that they will be regulars of P.J. Got there before it opened cuz you know you're gonna wait...that's just how it is..and believe me, you don't want anyone rushing to cut your child's hair to get him out the chair. P.J. is amazing! I love how he always asks "mom" or "pops" - whichever parent brought them in - how it looks before he continues with the cut on our kids - I don't know anyone else who does that. A mom came in with her 3 year old son to do a "dry run". All the barbers in the shop welcomed him and tried to make him feel comfortable. P.J. spoke with him and mom the most, even let the child hold the clippers for a sec. I thought it was so sweet. And it seemed like the little boy and mom were a little bit more at ease when they left. I will definitely be contacting P.J. for a regular appointment! read more
