My son just got out of the hospital yesterday. I have the footage of when it happened and CT scans and all the proof. The only thing that upsets me the most is that I've talked to other people and there is no way adults spar with younger kids especially when it comes down to striking. Coach Mata is an Experienced Brown Belt when it comes to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu who emphasizes on teaching Fundamentals before technique which contributes very much to the strength of your grappling game. Ever since attending, i have seen much improvement in myself and many other students in both (Muay Thai & BJJ). I'd also like to state that there are no "jocks" or "try-hards" here. if people know that you are a beginner they will go at your pace and respect your skill level, but at the same time also work with you to improve your skills and push you to your very best. everyone is supportive of each other and the experienced members also have much advice to offer If Needed. read more

Having been diagnosed with pre hypertension back in November, I took it upon myself to do something to help better my health and myself. Joining Mata MMA has definitely been a positive step in the right direction. When I first started, I felt welcomed and not at all intimidated by those who were more advanced. The work out regiment was challenging but never too overwhelming. As classes progressed, a newer level of strength and discipline further developed. Our instructors (Rocky, Fernando, George) are very knowledgeable and take pride in what they do. They're primary focus is set on helping everyone advance as a class, a team, as a whole. They definitely motivate you to be at your best and teach you to perform at a level which you didn't know you had. With their help I've developed a greater level of confidence, I'm in better shape, and above all have developed a greater appreciation for the discipline required in mixed martial arts. Mata MMA is a great place to train and evolve. Here you're not only a student, but you're family. For this very reason my younger sister joined the class and both of us couldn't be any more content. read more

Tried out a couple classes and had a good time training. Only issues I had were the vibe of the gym and instruction of Muay Thai. The jiujitsu was solid and professor had adequate knowledge which is expected under the instruction of their purple belt. The mats need to be cleaned more often with proper equipment because it reeked of body odor badly and left my shirt with permagunk smell. I noticed that the Muay Thai class was lacking in a lot of things and structured poorly. It is scheduled 15 minutes of warming up, and 45 minutes of either conditioning or some type of bag work. I noticed that clinch work was almost nonexistent as none of the students knew what to do when in the clinch during light sparring, which is a huge part if not the most important of Muay Thai. Felt more like a cardio kickboxing class you take at a commercial gym. Lineage of jiujitsu professors is authentic(Wander Braga/Peter Han/Rocky Mata) but questionable when it comes to Thai KB. This gym is overall a great beginner gym and really great for kids but I highly advise those looking to improve their game to go somewhere else. read more

was only there for a week because of personal issues that made me leave to move to another city but the time i spent there was amazing and i learned a lot about clinch work and some striking combinations, it was a really solid experience and i'd highly recommend it to anyone in the area read more

Started with bringing my 5 yr old daughter to have her interact with other kids outside of school and family. She loves it and my daughter is so girly. Instructors are very knowledgeable, patient, discipline and work well with what Mata calls his ninjas (the little ones). Now I am training with the Adults and will be competing soon. Fernando who is a black belt is amazing. Mata and Xorge are beasts and always helping out us white belts, love this place it is slowly changing my life for the best. You will learn a great deal about the art and, in the process, you will learn a great deal about yourself. Another talented and knowledgeable instructor also teaches Muay Thai there at MATA. The Muay Thai coach will push your body to the limit. This is the perfect class for earning practical self-defense skills and becoming lean. I highly recommend this class for both men and women. I have personally learned a great amount of stand up fighting skills in the 3 short months that I have taken these classes. I can only imagine how much better I will become by the end of this year. You can also dance your way into a toned body with the rhythmic stylings during the Zumba classes offered in the mornings. A talented instructor leads the class through a fun and intense routine. I have seen this class in the mornings when I had gone to train for BJJ and let me tell you, it looks really fun. The class is filled with women of all fitness levels. It is a very fun, comforting, and encouraging environment. The instructor is very passionate about what she does and I often see her chatting up and laughing with many of the people that attend her classes. She is also very conscious of nutrition. She sets up a juicer after her classes and offers delicious and healthy drinks for the women. Mata MMA also offers a pilates class. I have to admit, I don't know too much about the pilates class. I'll have to check it out and update you all on this. I promise I will ;). However, from what I know about pilates, it focuses a great deal on building core strength. So, I can imagine that the class does wonders for your body and improves flexibility along the way. That goes a long way if your looking to prevent injuries in your active lifestyle! Overall this is an awesome place! I'm glad a place like this exists so close to my house. It's literally a 10 minute walk from my house. But I prefer to drive, haha. I most definitely recommend this place for anyone looking to create a healthy and active lifestyle for themselves. Oh and did I mention that you don't have to pay a boat load of money to sign up?!
