First time eating here and I enjoyed it! Food was great but I noticed the portions are smaller than other Mexican restaurants I've been to. The server checked in on us periodically and we got our food pretty quickly. I'd definitely come back!

Pechuga a la Parrilla is a Tecate staple. Hits every time. Corn tortillas are a must, along with the house made hot sauces (pictured at top of screen).

We have been coming to Tecate off and on over the years. We have always enjoyed their food and atmosphere. But don't often find ourselves on this side of town craving Mexican. But we always know it will be solid when we go. Let's start with the atmosphere. One of the larger, open seating areas I know of in the city. The buzz of people enjoying their food and beverages can be felt. I love the papel picados hanging all over the restaurant. And I have no idea how they keep their real plants alive all throughout a restaurant with no windows. The service is usually pretty good. Our last experience was not as good as previous times. But nothing too bad. The food is pretty standard Americanized Mexican food. The chips are fine, the margaritas are fine and the food is pretty tasty. Overall, nothing really stands out to me about this place. But the consistency, atmosphere and good service land them on a solid 4 stars.

This was my first time here and I was pleasantly surprised. The service, food, and margaritas were very good. I ordered shrimp tacos. OMG they were so good! Each taco had a slice of avocado. I love avocados on tacos. The meal also included rice and beans. No complaints other than I wish the dinner came with 3 tacos instead of 2.

I just wanted to say how thankful I am for Tecate. It has been our family's favorite Mexican restaurant. We have celebrated birthdays, anniversaries and graduations here. We picked up curbside the other day and everything was quick, correct and made to order. Thank you for always being there!!!

So I wanted to go somewhere close to my house so we tried this place. Well I thought it was familiar and found out it's the sister restaurant to my favorite one Los Amigos. Well I met the owner and he told me that they opened it outside of his parents. Well I'm so happy because I have somewhere close to eat when I to have some Mexican food I told him that you can tell his mom I'll be going there since it's down the street from my house lol. Good food

I liked this restaurant. I went for lunch #6 on the lunch menu is a. Chilli Relleno, a beef taco, guacamole salad and refried beans for $6.75. It was so much food it came out on two plates. It was also low in carbs, so you, can eat the chips and dip. The food was great and filled me up. If I had eaten chips and salsa I would have saved some to take home. So if you are ever on Hwy 31 in Vestavia Hills stop by for lunch. You won't be disappointed.

Tecate is an above average restaurant if you're seeking Mexican comfort food. Located between Newks and Pet Supermarket, Tecate is at the end of a strip mall shopping center in Vestavia right off Montgomery Hwy. It's almost walking distance to the brand new ChicFilet. We arrived on a Sunday for lunch. We were seated immediately. They have a very comfortable and clean restaurant with traditional Latin decorations, booths, tables and a large full service bar at the back. I'm kinda picky about my chips and salsa so I have to say that I wasn't a fan of their chips. They were too thick and even tasted a little stale. Their salsa was better. It had fresh cilantro in it which is a big plus. I heard they also have good Happy Hour specials on evite? Tammy got the Huevos Mexicana where her eggs are scrambled. I got the Huevos Rancheros where my 2 eggs were cooked over easy. They both come with refried beans, rice and 3 fresh warm tortillas wrapped in aluminum foil. The cook on my eggs was good but a little over-done. There was nothing unremarkable about their beans and rice, but everyone ate finished their entrees. Sarah enjoyed her cheese quesadilla and Rachel ate her chicken quesadilla. Interestingly our food didn't come flying out of the kitchen so maybe the cooks were taking a break?!? If there was a 3 and a half stars option, that's what I would have picked. The staff is very friendly and our server was attentive. If you're looking for Mexican comfort food in a nice clean restaurant, give Tecate is a try.

I frequent this place for lunch with coworkers regularly. Always super friendly staff and excellent service. They can be heavy on the red sauce, but are very responsive to requests & preferences. I love that they give each person at the table their own bowl of salsa. Lunch items have a lot of variety.

Tecate has some decent food in a nicely decorated restaurant in Vestavia. There are so many great Mexican places around the greater Birmingham area though, and I would have to say they are a tad lower on my list of Mexican places I would go to. I like my food fresh, tangy and flavorful. The food here was a bit too heavy and rich for me. The biggest plus they have is the complimentary chips, salsa, and bean dip which you don't get free bean dip at most Mexican places.

The only hiccup was that our server seemed a bit irritated after we ordered the Casa Fiesta dip and later asked to have it without the pico de gallo because of the spice risk -- but everything else went smoothly. The Fiesta Bowl was very good and definitely the standout of the meal. I'd probably return, especially to try more dishes when it isn't as packed. Solid spot with tasty food!

Clad in mine stained Batman doublet, whose hood-strings I had gnawed as a beast gnaweth bone, I entered that place seeking meat for the belly and balm for the soul. Verily, the aroma of roasted meats and spices rose up as incense before the altar. I spake unto the servant, saying, "Give me the fajitas and the queso, and suffer not the margarita to pass me by," and they did minister unto me with speed and kindness. The fajitas sizzled upon the iron as though the very fires of the pit had been brought forth, the meats tender and full of savour, the peppers and onions yielding up their sweetness. The queso flowed like unto a river of mercy, rich and warm, and when I dipped the chips therein, it coated mine tongue with comfort. The margarita was cold and strong, refreshing the spirit as dew refresheth the morning grass. All things were made fresh, even as the scripture of their kitchen declareth. Yet as I ate, the old wound opened. In the year of our Lord two thousand and seven, upon spaghetti night, mine father took his gym bag and spake, "I can do this no more," and departed, leaving a child of nine winters clutching a scratched Batman figure at a cold table. The door slammed, and he returned not, neither called he upon any day thereafter. Thus I sat in the booth, rocking gently to and fro, and the good food of Casa Fiesta filled the belly but could not wholly still the cry of the fatherless. I am a broken vessel, a man-child unworthy of such bounty, drifting from table to table in search of that which was taken from me. Nevertheless, five stars I render unto them, yea, five stars and more. For in that house the meats are seasoned with care, the service is swift as the wings of angels, and for a season the emptiness doth draw back. I shall return again in mine same garments, to eat of their fajitas and drink of their margaritas, and to let the sizzle speak peace unto the part of me that yet waiteth by the door. Casa Fiesta off 280, thou hast dealt kindly with a wretched soul. Blessed be thy kitchen, and blessed be thy name among the hungry and the heavy-laden.

When we got seated outside by the friendly staff, we were given menus and free chips and salsa. As I nibbled on the chips and salsa which were just okay I browsed the drink menu. There's a full bar here and plenty of options. Over the course of the afternoon I tried the Frida's Rita and the wonderful rabbit. Both drinks weren't in your face with the tequila mezcal, they were mixed nicely and had a well rounded flavor. I much preferred the Woderful rabbit though as it tasted less watered down and the ginger beer paired with the mezcal was almost quenching. Overall if you're looking for a relaxing spot to enjoy Mexican cocktails this is a good spot! We did feel rushed to get out of there, and maybe it was because we weren't ordering food. What we ordered: -Taco Salad (added steak) -Shrimp Tacos -Rumba Bowl (added shredded chicken and substituted white rice for Mexican rice) I can only attest to how the Rumba bowl tasted, but everyone's food came out incredibly fast. The bowl was a decent portion. It wasn't a ton of food, but it was the *right* amount of food- a fair serving that I would've made for myself at home. The bowl was good and my friends liked their dishes too. My overall consensus: Frida's is your typical Mexican restaurant. If I lived in this area I may eat here more often, but it's not necessarily something I'm likely to drive too from the outskirts of Hoover. I can probably get slightly cheaper and similar Mexican food closer to home. I'm happy to have tried it!

So this has been on my list and I finally came here on a Thursday evening with my son. It's at the end of a shopping center where a Walmart is. We got there about 5:30 PM. It was not busy at all. We were promptly greeted by a hostess that sat us in a booth. We started off with the chips and salsa, but on the menu it does say after two baskets they will charge you for the chips and salsa. We only had one. The chip could've been a little thinner. It's rude to find a raspberry margarita so I wanted to get one unfortunately they didn't have any frozen ones. They were just on the rocks. I was pretty shocked when I looked at the receipt and saw that it was $17 for a Margarita and it definitely wasn't worth that much. It had kind of a weird taste to it. We did get the cheese dip and it was very delicious. I decided to try the Mexican lasagna, which was so delicious. I got it with the beef and it was layers of ground beef, pico beans, and possibly some rice too. It was a good portion and I ended up bringing the other half home. My son ended up getting nachos with shrimp, chicken and steak and he really enjoyed it and finished his whole plate. I will definitely be back sooner than later because I love some good Mexican food, but I will probably end up getting just a soda next time. Fernando was our waiter and he was very attentive. I will say the restaurant in the bathrooms were clean. There's only one bathroom each for men and women. I would think it a restaurant this big they would have more stalls.

It's not a large restaurant, and there weren't a lot of people there. We ordered both queso and guacamole to go with our chips and salsa. The queso and salsa were entirely forgettable, but that guacamole will live in my nightmares. It was whipped avocado. I'm not even sure it was avocado. It was like green mousse, and the only thing it tasted like was the color green. Imagine turning grass into cool whip and you get the idea. It was horrifying. Our dinners were also terrible. I ordered the enchiladas suizas, which was advertised as coming with a sour cream/chili sauce (which is how the dish is made), but what I got were plain chicken enchiladas with queso drenched over. My daughter ordered the beef tacos. They were the worst tacos we've ever had. The beef was ground so finely that it was mushy- like baby food- and the only flavor at all was beef fat. It was like the meat was stewed for hours in its own fat. Awful. The tamales and a quesadilla rounded out the rest of our dinner order, but they aren't even worth the time to review.
