We were looking for someone to cater our son's 30th birthday lunch. He had requested Mexican food and the party was being held at an event space near by Maya's. My husband and I wanted to check out the food before deciding on a caterer, so we went to Maya's one night for dinner. We shared a plate of chicken fajitas. The food was really good and plenty for both of us. They served endless chips and salsa which I appreciated because some Mexican restaurants don't do this. Regarding the catering, we talked with a man named Juan. He was very helpful and gave suggestions of items to get, and told us to call him closer to time to put in the catering order. Later, one thing that was difficult was getting back in touch with Juan because he worked between the Maya restaurant in Homewood and the Maya restaurant in Alabaster. Luckily we were able to speak to him and put in the final order. The day of the party, we had to wait a few minutes before the food was ready, but when we got the food we were amazed at how much food we got! It was an amazing deal. The food was nice and hot and the party goers were super impressed. We had a nacho/taco bar with chicken and ground beef as well as flour and corn tortillas and nacho chips. The toppings included lettuce, guacamole, salsa, rice and cheese dip. There was plenty of food with lots of leftovers. Pretty big meal for the price; chicken is nice and soft without huge pieces that make others' quesadillas overly lumpy and hard to eat. At the moment my favorite item on the Maya menu is the Green Enchilada with avocado salad plate. The green sauce is a mild vinaigrette mixture that really complements the chicken enchiladas (three of 'em). The avocado salad is just avocado mash (or dip) on iceberg lettuce, but it makes a nice side for the enchiladas. (One small note: on our last visit we actually had to ask for the "included" avocado after the waiter told us that avocados were expensive and the restaurant had noted many diners were not eating the avocado salads). Service is generally very fast and friendly. Food orders are delivered quickly. The restaurant itself is fairly large and provides several big screen tv's located in various places and usually dialed into sports events. I have no problem recommending this place to anyone looking for a reasonably priced Mexican restaurant in the Alabaster area. read more

I can't believe I haven't been back to Maya sooner after enjoying a delicious meal for one of the Yelp events. I had a taste for a taco salad and decided to get it from here. I called in my order for the Fajita Taco Salad with steak and a side of Jalapeno Poppers. I loved the Fajita vegetables and marinated steak. There was definitely enough of each throughout the tortilla topped with cheese. Oh and the poppers were delicious with the sauce that had a hint of sweetness that complimented the cheese. I have been here twice to dine in and once for a to go order. The service is very prompt and friendly. They have a drink special. First time it was a Cadillac margarita and this time it was a blue margarita. The drinks are 3.95 for their drink of the week. The chips and salsa is very delicious. I had the chicken chimichanga and cheese dip. Both were very satisfying. They are enforcing social distancing so you aren't seated too close to the other diners. All staff are wearing masks. You must wear a mask to enter the restaurant. I will definitely be back soon. I highly recommend checking this place out. read more

Well we learned they change hours depending on how busy they are. We ordered the fajita plate with queso and a chile poblano The queso was very thick and stiffened really fast. The fajitas came out sizzling. The chicken and steak was juicy and tender. The flavor was there. The onions and peppers weren't over cooked at all. The flour tortillas was nice and hot. The rice was tasty. The beans weren't all that great. They were mashed pinto beans and tasted just like pinto beans only. The Chile Poblano was disappointing to say the least. The pepper was raw still. I ordered it stuffed with shredded chicken. The chicken was barely heated up and topped with a few shreds of cheese on it and they put cheese on top and melted it. I had a frozen Chile mango margarita with a rim of tajin which was incredibly spicy and sweet. For my entree I had chicken and rice covered in cheese dip. I used to go to the former Mexican restaurant in this location and really enjoyed it...good food, great prices. So I was very interested in trying this new one. One of my favorite Mexican items is a Chile Rolleno. It seems that every restaurant has it's own interpretation, some much better than others. The Maya version is not good. Was glad to still have a Mexican restaurant in our area. Went there for dinner last night. Could not be more disappointed. Although they were very busy, the service was good. However, the food was not. Husband and I ordered different dinners but everything was the same very bland ground beef, just in a different format. Enchilada - wrap it up in a tortilla, chile rellenos - put a scoop on the plate and top with a piece of bell pepper, taco - put it in a taco shell and add some cheese and lettuce. I did express my disappointment to them as I truly want them to be successful; but the food will have to greatly improve for that to happen. The margarita was good. read more

I have visited Maya's several times over the past few weeks. They are providing for social distancing and servers are of course wearing masks. From a food standpoint, it reminds me of La Fiesta in Hoover. In fact the owner and several of the wait staff have worked at La Fiesta previously. We heard about Maya's from our daughter who heard about it from a former Hoover resident who now lives in Houston. She was so excited that Alabaster had a "La Fiesta" style restaurant and she called our daughter who lives in Nashville to tell her about Mayas.
