Techkahunas Saved the Day! I have a Mac Pro and was having problems getting any video signal to the monitor after restarting. I thought it was the video card or even the motherboard but wasn't sure, so I took it to Techkahunas hoping they could save the day. My wife left two Dell laptops, one XPS 13 and one XPS 15, on overnight on our Tempurpedic mattress. They overheated due to poor ventilation. They had propietary info on them for which signed NDAs (for business investment opportunity presentations), so it was a security issue. My wife insisted that they not be left overnight with any place and I be present during repairs. This created an additional challenge. Note that I was an IT professional for 18 years and have deep knowledge of computer hardware. I took these apart myself and replaced the batteries. For the XPS 15, the battery replacement worked initially, but when the battery ran down, it wouldn't charge up again. I was able to copy all the data on the hard drive, so this became a less time sensitive repair. Meanwhile, the XPS 13 wouldn't boot up after battery replacement and because of the tiny form factor the hard drive is integrated on the motherboard which made copying the hard drive data impossible. If this were not the case, I would have been able to remove the hard drive and extract the data. I took the XPS 13 to no less than 5 other laptop shops around San Diego without any solution over the course of 2 months. Trust me, it was an odyssey of wasted time. I wanted to try one last time before going to data recovery in LA. Dennis at Tech Kahunas saved me the trouble. He put the motherboard under a microscope and was able to find that the USBC controller was burnt, which prevented it from controlling the laptop temperature which was hitting 120 degrees Celsius. The laptop was overheating prior to my wife leaving it on over night. So Dennis was the first one to troubleshoot it successfully. But, this story didn't end there. After powering up successfully, the laptop still wouldn't boot up. It wouldn't recognize the new battery. Another round of troubleshooting was needed. We ordered another battery, got it booted and I copied the hard drive data on the spot. All told, I spent about 5-6 hours in the shop w Dennis working on this. He was very patient and I consider him a friend now. (There was a lot of time to chat as he tried many things each session) I took the XPS 15 back later. He got it working and fixed an issue w the TouchPad also. I highly recommend Tech Kahunas. Very professional. The workstation areas are kept immaculately, which was not the case in the other places. He discovered he had a talent for troubleshooting computer issues when he was a college student. It is a side gig that turned into a successful business. read more

With someone with a tight budget, I was hesitant to even get it fixed because Apple products are very costly without Apple Care. First time in my life that my PC just went out...I could not boot up. Found Peter on Craigslist. I called, but he texted me back, as it was around dinnertime... He didn't know who I was and I had not even paid anything, and he was giving me troubleshooting advice, immediately. After my computer was not responding, he asked that I bring it in. Dropped off computer the next day; his wife and baby son did the intake, as he was out on a job. He texted me a few hours later, with the issue. He asked for permission to swap our SSD, as mine was bad. He tried to recover my data, but was not able to. He suggested sending my SSD to the place he has used, 300DollarDataRecovery. THIS IS A MAJOR POINT I WANT TO MAKE... I called around and there are other data recovery services out there, that quote you $800 - $3000, and that's if they find your data. Peter said his issue was really bad and his issue had to get sent off for a total cost of $1,300. So, I decided to go with his recommendation, and only paid $300, plus $75 for the 1TB external hard drive, AND got all my data back! I have built many, many computers over the last 30+ years and in my previous career I was the director of IT for a small firm back in the early 90s. All that's to say that I normally don't let just anyone work on my boxes. This particular instance, I was at my wits end. I'd already spent a few hours trying to recover from a Microsoft update that caused a BSOD. Then decided to call a professional that worked with Windows 10 more regularly as I now run a few ecommerce business and had no time to deal with this issue. I sent a few requests for quotes using the Yelp quote service. I received a few responses for more info but Peter at Tech Kahunas was prompt and was able to arrange to visit my office quickly so I wouldn't have as much down time. Well, turns out that my PC needed more work than the 2 hours Peter had already spent as it has suffered a pretty bad corruption. Peter took my PC back to his office. I feared the worst. I had been having troubles with my power port on my laptop for 18 months. Had it replaced once, changed chargers 3 times. At times it worked fine and my battery charged as it should. Other times, I would have to try to hold the power cord in one position so it might charge. Kept getting worse. I attempted to install a new SSD stick, and then my computer makes the gonk-noise when I turn it on... I found him on Google, called, and he very patiently went through what system I had, the specs, and that it was possible my rig couldn't use that specific type of M.2 SSD. When I mentioned that even my Corsaire RAM sticks weren't lighting up when I turned it on (thank you clear side panel), and I'd had to take them out to access the M.2 slot, he told me to make sure they were firmly seated. I took my high-end, Microsoft, Surface, Studio, Laptop, that no longer booted, into several people (e.g., Best Buy Nerds) and they said we don't work on those complicated laptops and we CAN'T RECOVER YOUR DATA, and if it is out-of-warranty, Microsoft probably won't fix it either.
