I really wanted this to be a good experience, but unfortunately, it wasn't. We contacted this mobile mechanic service when our car wouldn't start, hoping for a quick fix. It was late, we were stuck in a parking garage at 10 PM with no tools, and we trusted their guidance. The mechanic started service around 4 or 5 PM and we didn't leave until 1 AM. We were charged $681 total, including $165 for a diagnostic and the cost/labor for two batteries. The mechanic mentioned we could replace the batteries ourselves to save money, but that really wasn't realistic given the situation we were in. The biggest issue was the lack of communication. For hours, there was no clear diagnostic explanation, and it wasn't until after the batteries were replaced around 10 PM that we were told the issue might be related to a computer system failure. This was not mentioned at all before we replaced the batteries, which made it feel like we were going in circles. After everything was done, we still didn't have a working car, and we were left without any real answers or codes to understand the problem. Eventually, we had to tow the car to Pep Boys, where they diagnosed and fixed the issue for just $177. We feel that this mobile service could've been more transparent and provided clearer communication throughout the process. Given the high cost and lack of results, I'm sharing this review to help others avoid the same frustrating experience. I generally do not leave reviews, but I couldn't, in good conscience, not alert others to the experience I just encountered with Tech On The Way (TOTW). I initially spoke to Whitney but was later referred to Celena to confirm a price. Looking back, there were hints that perhaps TOTW was not the mechanic shop to hire (e.g. inconsistent communication, inaccurate information) but both Whitney & Celena were polite, so I attributed it to differing communication styles and ignored them. On the appointment day, Celena arrived at my home around 7 pm, the very end of the appointment window for what I was initially told was a 3.5-hour job. At 12 midnight, she was still working on my automobile, at 1am the next day she was still working. At 2 am, 3 am, and 4 am she was still working. When I went out to my garage to inquire what was taking so long, Celena seemed to get irritated and brushed me off. She did not finish working on my automobile until 6 am the next morning. She worked on my vehicle for 11 straight hrs. I asked her was there some problem? What took so long? I now wondered if she even knew how to replace valve cover gaskets. It was then that she told me the job normally takes 6.5 hr. As a result of the time involved, she also wanted to charge me approx $350.00 more than what was originally quoted. When I did not agree to the new price, she asked if I could pay in cash instead of using a credit card. I said I could pay cash but I would have to go to the ATM. On the way to the ATM, the check engine light came on on the vehicle Celena just finished working on. The check engine light had never came on before. I just brought the car. I then informed Celena and asked her to check the SUV. As Celena approached the vehicle, she said "Don't I have something to do?" Meaning, wasn't I going to the ATM to get her money? I said.... "Not until we address this check engine light that is now on." Her attitude instantly changed. She insisted that I pay her. I told her that I would pay her when the work was completed but right now it appears that the work has not been completed. Celena refused to evaluate the check engine light that came on after she worked on my car for 11 hours. Celena refused to continue our discussion and said she would put a lien on my vehicle. Celena was an angel sent to me at a time of distress...let's talk about it. One of my fleet vans broke down at the gas station AFTER I had just picked it up from a mechanic for a different issue. I thought I only needed a battery jump, but turns out I needed a battery replacement as well as an alternator. Celena went above and beyond. Mind you, I had not called her. She just so happened to be at the gas station getting some things in between her service call. Celena made time for my issue, made sure that she diagnosed the issue to the fullest, repaired it, and ensures I was alright. It had been a long trying week, and aside from the business part of it, Celena listened to my needs carefully, and gave me a pep talk as well. This company was a life saver! My brakes started making loud noises. I contacted a different mobile mechanic who agreed to an appointment but later cancelled 30 mins later because of the rain. So I was stuck at an auto store and couldn't move my vehicle. Did a search and found Tech on the way. She was able to get to me within a hour and proceeded to work on my car while it was raining cats and dogs! I was unable to re install my fuel tank. Also had a fuel delivery problem. Celena showed up slightly late. Got right to work. Installed the tank in about 1 1/2 hours. Went straight to the fuel pump. Four window, she arrived with 30 min.s left. Two hr job, after 3 she was only 2/3 done. Really did not appear to know this task. I had to finish mysellf. In regard to the radiator. You say you did not remove it to protect it but it is leaking anyway. Since I put it back together i know there was plenty of room to do the work. I got a bolt from Ace hw, easy peazy. Updated review. Celena is VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. DO NOT BOOK. Celena arrived over an hr late just to sit in her car for 25-30min smoking (not working on my car) then left without saying a word. Then when asked if she had an update since she "had to leave" she replied saying no update lol. I'm a field engineer for a living. If you have to leave the job site when you're getting paid PER HR you communicate that with the client. Then to deliberately decline calls because she was gone for over 40min, she gets upset because I communicate what's going on with the "call center" she has. She then replied on my comment saying nothing but false statements. At the end of the day, you're a mobile tech who has everything on their truck, I would know, I'm a mobile engineer. Having to leave after being over an hr late bc you forgot towels is just piss poor business. FACT IS, she showed up over an hr late with no communication, Sat in her truck for 30min, then left whiteout saying a word because the mo lie tech forgot towels lol. Celena showed up 2hrs and 6 minutes late for my appointment with a 2 hour block. In conversations prior to my appointment, I had explained that I needed my F250 diagnosis and an estimate for any work needed. I was impressed with the amount of time she took doing her test on my truck. So at the completion of the diagnosis she informed me that I had one bad battery that could be the problem with my injectors, and to replace the battery and let her know if it corrected the problem. If I didn't fix the problem then I would need the 4 injectors replaced. She said she would provide me with an estimate via email by Monday or Tuesday for the injectors replacement. So I went and replaced the battery and it didn't fix my vehicle. She reached out to me to see if the battery fixed the problem and I informed her that it didn't. So she once again stated she would send me an estimate for the necessary repairs. Well a week went by and I contacted her, only to be informed that I now didn't pay for an estimate only a diagnosis. Who in there right mind will pay you $353 just to tell them what they already know, the vehicle has a problem? She is now refusing all together to give me an estimate for the work I need. This just turned into a legal issue because there's no way she going to keep my money for not providing me with the estimate I requested! What she needs to realize is that you have to perform a diagnosis in order to give estimate for a repair! Beware of dealing with this company. Oh and I have every text message as proof. So I hope you have that body cam footage of you telling me everything, cause you're gonna need it. read more
