I recently tried to fire up my desktop after months of inactivity and found that it kept shutting down with a thermal event (overheating) message. I tried to fix it myself, and just made it worse, so I decided to take it to TechCollective for some diagnostic help. The guy there was more than helpful, very courteous, and didn't have that superior attitude that other computer guys can have, especially when you know something about computers but aren't an expert. He figure out the problem in 30-40 minutes, and only charged my $20 bucks for it. I gave him $25 because i felt he deserved at least that much. Excellent pricing, excellent service. I was goofing around on Christmas Day trying to clean my keyboard, and I somehow managed to break my laptop keyboard. D'oh! Panic set in...I read Yelp reviews, and I called Tech Collective the next day. Yochai was very pleasant and told me to bring it in the following Monday when their hardware person was in the office. They were very fair...said if it was a quick fix, the price would be negligible and could be turned around same day. Turns out I broke my keyboard...they had to order the part, and they understood I was anxious to get my laptop back. Had it repaired and returned, with reasonable fix rate, within the week...over the holidays! HOW GREAT IS THAT? I love these guys. When I lived in the Mission 2 years ago, I took my computer there because of weird software issues and keys that had come off. They fixed it lickety split and didn't make me feel dumb like at other computer repair places. I just took the laptop in last weekend for a variety of issues--odd noises, software bugs, mouse keys not working, dvd drive--and they have a great new program where they'll email you about the progress and let you know what options are. My hard drive was apparently failing, and I had 3 choices for what they could do to help me and what the realistic expectations for functionality were. While there was a a miscommunication about all the things I needed them to take a look at (written intake form didn't get totally transferred to digital invoice), they did fix the issues on the spot when I took it back to them today, and even gave me a refund of the labor from the hard drive replacement. Totally awesome to talk to, these guys listen and are genuinely helpful. Now I will be able to use this laptop for 2-3 more years before I have to shell out for a new one. THANK YOU!!!!! read more

I called Yochai who was quick to provide answers and solutions to my laptop problem. When I called Compaq, they quoted 4x the price Yochai quoted to fix my computer! I had the pleasure (not sure if requesting the services of data recovery is considered pleasure, but nonetheless.........after switching on my external hard drive to tune of the 'click click click of death' my neighbor heard my squeal and headed to yelp to look for data recovery services. We called and they told us to come straight over. Putting other work aside and taking apart my drive and confirming the death rattle, my heart sank. For those of you who have ever experienced a hard drive crash, its very tragic news! Especially when you have irreplaceable files on there you cannot (in my case) photography, reshoot! I was devastated. My husband then suggested I give these boys my jump drive which originally had my missing images on there, but had been written over by my co-worker with a whopping 32GB of data. It didn't sound promising but they told me to bring it in. Meanwhile I send my death rattle piece of crap Lacie Drive to Clean Room People in the hope they could revive my drive. to the tune of $4800!!! I was willing to pay it, the files were worth that much! In the meantime, the tech collective squad managed to recover 40% of my images but sadly not the crucial ones I needed to save my ass. This went on for the course of 1 week and when I got the nail in the coffin news my hard drive was TOAST! I emailed Yochai at Techcollective to invite him to the funeral, my funeral, as I put my head in a zeitgeist margarita and cried hysterically. A migraine and a pedicure later I returned home to a missed call with a number I didnt recognise, I returned the call and Yochai picked up, this was around 9.30pm on a Fri Nite (take note) he said were at the office and I think we have your files recovered!!when can you get here!!! TAXI!! 10 minutes! Yochai and the boys had felt so bad for me, they tried another recovery program (apparently Yochai had a 'feeling' in his gut that day) - I personally think it was the 12 Krispy Kremes I dropped of the day before but whatever it was, true kindness, empathy, professionalism and a good heart, he convinced the team to give it one last try!! These guys bicker and banter like the golden girls, its quite comical......these boys were my comedy club in times of tragedy and not only are the true professionals, they are real people who understand that the loss of files is like losing a friend, not only that it cost me $400 bucks including a new drive with my much needed files on it!!! Highly recommended. Some of the best customer service I've ever had from anywhere, including 5-star restaurants, fancy hotels, and first-class air flights. My data hard drive failed. It contained irreplaceable data which I had carelessly neglected to back up. Music, photos, and an album I've been working on for years potentially lost forever. TechCollective scored their first points by being open on Saturdays while the other data recovery firms weren't. They scored again by having friendly people on-site who were sympathetic, optimistic, and realistic about my chances for data recovery. TechCollective managed to recover ALL of my data in just a few days. And they did so at a price that was substantially less than the other firms in the area would have charged. I offered to pay them what I had been prepared to pay for my data, which was 10-20 times what they were charging. They politely declined. Even if they had not been able to recover my data, I would have written a great review for them. I've been inside many a tech-service firm, and TechCollective rules them all. Note that TechCollective does not have a "hard drive clean room" - they use a software-only recovery solution. It worked great for me, it may not work great (or at all) for you. I only Yelp for outstandingly good/bad places (so far it's been good only luckily) and this place is no exception. I had an easy procedure that needed doing- the transfer of my hard drive info from an old hard drive on a buggy computer to a new external hard drive. Here is why I chose TechCollective: After shopping around, these guys had the best rates- $35 for this service where many other places charge $65+. They also seem to have the best reviews. To top it all off it is a small business owned by the employees! Now what could be better than that? Upon arriving, I found a clean space (with a cool computer parts "Wall of Shame" - funny and cool looking), prompt service, and a laid back and friendly atmosphere. Dropped off my shameful piece of crap computer, got the run down and price quote, and was on my way. Not a day later and I had a phone call saying my stuff was ready to go. I ended up deciding to have them transfer the music from my hard drive to my new ipod touch (I am computerless at the moment) and although the process took a while and was a pain in the butt for them to do, I ended up paying just a little bit more!
