Why haven't I found this wonderful place sooner! It's funky, well-stocked. I was served by the owner, who was gracious and more helpful than any other shoe salesman than I've encountered in the 21st century. He sized up my personal style of dress and brought me two pairs of VERY comfortable sports shoes, both of which I purchased on the spot. No need to look at 10 or 20 other possibilities. He actually used one of those foot-measuring plates, which went out of fashion in the 1990s. We had a good chat about how foot size changes with time. He helped me get the shoe onto my "difficult" left foot, secured the laces they way I usually neglect to do, and told me I could keep the little shoe horn if I liked. My only regrets? (1) I didn't have time to inspect the rest of the stock: interesting hats, bags, and other clothing. Luckily, I can always come back another day! (2.) My wife was sick at the time that one of my four sons wanted really badly to take tap dancing which i thought was cool because i took classes at the same age as him 8. So it was a last minute thing his first class would be starting the next day so i went on line and found teadys was close to me so i went there not knowing anything about tap shoes and the woman was very nice taking my son's size. So i got the shoes and a pair of socks and the bill came to a little over 100 bucks. Didn't think anything about it cuz like i said i didn't know anything about tap shoes ... My wife got better a couple of months later and when she saw what i paid for them i thought she was going to cut my arms off. She showed me the same ones on line for 25 bucks. Lesson learned. Went here one Sunday with my sister to purchase dance shoes for her dance course she's taking. Once you walk into the place looked very small due to overwhelming amount of dance shoes and outfits piled up to the ceiling and poor dim lighting. Though this is besides the point, I just wanted to say that the man at the cash register/front desk of this place was a total jerk to me and my sister. This is odd judging from his previous demeanor which was happy and friendly to the people who were before us in line. The only good point of this place was how helpful the female staff member was by helping us get the size shoe my sister needed. To the man at the cash register please use your money to take a course on customer service please because it seems to me you do not know how to deal with customers equally. read more

I went to this store to buy ballet shoes and tights for my daughter because it was the closest store to us at the time. My first impression of the store was that it looked dirty and cluttered but they had what I needed so it didn't bother me at all. I bought what we needed at the time not even looking at the price. The staff seemed helpful and very knowledgeable at the time especially the man at the register. When I paid I thought the price was a little higher than expected. I've been buying dance wear for my daughter for years but never shopped in this store before. When I got home I looked up the prices at the dance shop in Newton where I usually buy my dance supplies. I was shocked to find the prices for the items I bought at Teddy Shoes were almost double what they sell for there. The exact items can be found online for about half of what I paid. I will not be shopping there again but instead shopping around for a better price. I was able to purchase 3 pairs of tights and 2 pairs of shoes online for the same price, even with the price of shipping factored in! Although the prices were a little high the location was very convenient for me and they have great hours! They are even open on Sunday's when most others aren't. If you need something last minute and can't find another open store this might work for you. Also, FWI, I think this store may be a bring your own bag store because I didn't get a bag to put my purchased items in. read more

Yesterday, my niece and I went shopping for shoes for her prom.We went to teddy shoes. We were in the store for about a hour. We had fun. I even tried on so many different pairs of shoes. The lady was very helpful.She talked and joked with son. that was sincere.She even put his hat on her head.He never will take his hat off to share it.This place is small, but very child friendly.The perfect mixture of culture and style. We tried on a vast variety of different shoes.We hunted for the perfect match. We did not bring the dress with us.As we were leaving,we saw them. The ideal shoes. Mariale was very sweet. He has shoes that probably fit most people, but not me, ms. wide-but-small-feet. Instead of accepting he didn't have the right size and letting us go, he tried to forcefully make the shoe fit and it just. Wasn't. Going. To. Work. Don't let him guilt you and think you can't find anything better (fit-wise for shoes) somewhere else. I was trying to find a cheaper ballroom shoe that fit and the service guy there was really pushy. First it was a fairly cramped place, which was fine since it looked like they had a lot of shoe options which was great since my feet are wide. It was a bit difficult to communicate with the lady there, but she was nice nonetheless and got the shoe(s) I requested. I tried on a bunch of shoes, asking if they had any 'wide', but she didn't seem to understand, so the guy came over to help. We tried on a couple more shoes and concluded they just weren't going to fit right. Some of the shoes they offered weren't even the right style and description I gave. Finally he left to get a pair one size up, but by then we decided we'd just leave. We were OUTSIDE the store and he called us to come back in saying he had more shoes. Again, more shoes that were not the tan 2" heel closed toe satin shoes I wanted. One was a 3" and black, and the other was a flat scrappy sandal. The 3rd was the shoe I tried before next size up. I tried it on, and it was too big, so he offered putting an insert to help, while assuring that he didn't want to push us into anything, that it was all up to the customer. The shoe just didn't fit right even with the insert, yet he suggested stretching it and putting more inserts to 'make it fit'. Stretching wears shoes out quicker, and the increasing number of inserts was getting uncomfortable. It felt like regardless of the problem on how it fit, he just didn't want us to leave without buying the shoes and being 'happy'. He kept on offering ways to change the shoe so that it'll 'fit'. It seriously felt like a guilt trip. As a dancer, you want your shoes to fit with MINIMAL alternations. I understand that sometimes you may need a little something, but this guy was being way overbearing. AND as a person with wide yet small feet, I KNOW it's possible to find the right shoe. It just isn't necessarily ta the first store you go to. As we were leaving he said he could special order a pair of shoes, but I'd have to make a deposit first, but we were already out of the door. What was the real sticking point was when after I said no to the additional insert, he said "no shoe will fit perfectly". This is untrue I can tell you, because the next store we went to - a different ballroom shoe store - I found a pair of shoes that truly fit and I am incredibly happy. read more

whoa dancing shoe heaven found! i just stared taking ballet next door to them and went in to find a pair of slippers- at first I thought their selection was a bit small until the lady walked into the back and came back with a whole bunch of different styles and prices! as I waited I got to see the diversity of shoes they have.... jazz to stripperish, tap to salsa, anyTHING. I have visited Teddy's twice since my last review, and I can see them trying to improve. The service was faster, and the owner was clearly trying for good customer service. That said, the two assistants still seemed fairly clueless. And, I admit it, I take off some points for it being so crazy claustrophobic in there. I know rent's expensive and I should be glad they stock so much in so little space, but I can't even turn around without bumping into something. read more

Wow! Yesterday I went to Teddy Shoes in search for the perfect Salsa shoe. Steve, the owner, provided me with over 40 shoes to try and two hours later I found "the one". If only finding a man was that easy! Steve's eagerness to help and desire to keep me a happy customer was his foremost aim. He even stretched a shoe for me (which I didn't end up buying) and added padding to older Salsa shoe, at no cost. I would recommend this store to anyone who is looking for a personal touch and a collection of Salsa shoes that could allow you to spend two hours just trying them on! An extra star because the guy that helped me was soooo helpful (let's call him Teddy). Teddy knew his shit. It actually became a game for me. I said I might be in the market for some new ballet slippers and he asked all the right questions - leather or canvas (leather); black or pink (black); half sole or full sole (half). I asked him what he would recommend sole wise. He looked at me and said, "you seem like you've been dancing awhile...half sole." Oh, he knew is stuff. I tried on a standard Capezio, but it wasn't quite right. He pulled out a different brand and viola! Perfection! There was a bit communication misunderstanding with the lady who didn't speak English very well, but it turned out to be all good. It turned out to be a great find - close to work, so I popped by there slightly before 6, asked for help, and found a super cool outfit that my daughter loved. I'm posting an update to add that after dancing on only three occasions with these shoes, the soles are now falling apart near the toes. As I mentioned in the first review, the soles were fixed at the heel before Steve gave them to me as an exhange, but clearly the ones by the toes were already worn out as well since they were used. IAll in all, I spent $120 so far, and now the additional $15 estimate for repairs. I was misled about the return policy, was given horrendous customer service, and the shoes I wound up with I only danced in three times before they fell apart. Buyer beware. read more

Just left Teddy shoes and I'm so mad I'm yelping in the car! I came in looking for Zumba shoes. While they have a good selection, the service was extremely rude! Aside from someone standing next to me, watching me while I tried on shoes, when I asked for a different pair that would fit me better, I got yelled at that I was told the pair I should have tried on initially. The shoes I bought at Teddy's fell apart after wearing them for only 2 hrs. The owner gave me a very hard time when I brought them back and wanted to give me a store credit because they had been worn. They were obviously defective and I had to fight for 10 minutes to get him to give me my money back. Not a very pleasant experience. I would definitely not go back and will tell my dancing friends to stay away. It's also pretty gross and dirty looking inside. I will stick to the Internet for my next pair. read more

I went to Teddy Shoes today to get leotards for my twins and as soon as I walked in, I was greeted and they had exactly what I needed! Yes, it was cramped, dusty and it DOES look like a dancing hoarder lives there, but no other store was able to provide me with what I needed. The staff was obnoxiously loud, but they were helpful and genuinely kind. I will definitely go back for my kids dance needs. read more

The store has an outstanding collection of dancewear. However, do NOT attempt to shop there unless Steve, the owner (middle-aged man), or Spencer, an assistant (and dancer) are there to help you. I walked into the store with the intention of purchasing 3 pairs of shoes: salsa, swing, and dance sneakers. I figured I'd spend a couple hundred dollars and was OK with that. By the time I walked out, I didn't want to give them 1 cent. To say that the sales girls at this store are the laziest people I've ever seen is an understatement. They sat there on their behinds taking personal calls, chatting with each other, annoyed if you were trying on shoes in "their way" and even more annoyed if you *gasp* wanted to try on a different size. At one point I just tried on the display so I wouldn't have to ask for another size. When it seemed to fit, I asked if I could try on the mate to it. The girl looked extremely annoyed and said "So do you want me to get the other one?" Big sigh from her. Yes, indeed I did. Perhaps I should have asked her to point me to the stock room as it would have been much easier and more pleasant for me to get it myself. When I asked them for a different size they said they didn't have it; when the owner walked by and asked how I was doing & I indicated fine but the shoes were too big, he magically found smaller sizes. These girls should be fired. They are not only to worth what they are getting paid, they are driving business away. Although the owner of the store ran around like a madman trying to get sizes, styles, etc. he is also the person in charge of his staff. I have never felt so unwelcome in a store; I have never experienced salespeople who have less desire to have you purchase from them. It was as if I was infringing on their personal space and time. I really want to shop locally but I won't go there anymore. Almost all of what you can get there, you can get on the internet. Terrible. read more

I had a good experience at Teddy's shoes recently. Last week, I went in search of a latin / salsa shoe . Needed a size 12 women's which isn't that easy to find . Steven, the owner, was very helpful and patient in letting me try on what was available in inventory. I was there well over 2 hours and I didn't feel pressured. If I didn't like a style or the shoe didn't fit, he brought out more shoes so I had options. I left with a pair of So Danca shoes. I'm glad that I have somewhere to go that carry's larger sizes in ballroom shoes. I got the shoes just in time to practice in them before my first competition this Saturday! read more

Customer service was far beyond the standard found in today's retail stores. The manager was overly friendly, helpful and knew exactly where to find what we needed in this eclectic and packed store full of everything you could ever want when it comes to dancing. I went in the day before my 3 year was to begin her first ballet class and got the required items. Upon bringing them home and trying them on, I realized that I had chosen the wrong sizes for both her shoes and her leotard. I called the store and was told that they typically open at 10 am, but because my daughter's class was the next day at 9:45 am, they would open the store early for me at 9:20 am, which they did. I waltzed in at 9:20, exchanged my items, dressed my daughter and arrived at class with 5 minutes to spare! Super helpful, friendly and knowledgable. I drove down here from Newburyport looking to buy my first pair of ballroom dance shoes, and the owner of the shop couldn't be bothered to end his phone call to help me. I finally stared him down, at which point he barely made an effort to help me out. I work too hard for my money to give this store any business. I would rather go to a store that would appreciate my business. Plus the actual shoes were pitiful, fake leather, cheap construction. I went to Teddy's a few months ago to get some unique wedding shoes to go with my dress. I wanted to get dance shoes not because we were going to do a fancy first dance, but because I figured they would be comfortable and made for dancing of course! And of course I browsed all the crazy shoes they have there, because why not - it's an adventure! The sales people were very helpful in finding me the right pair. They directed me to the character shoes and I found the perfect pair of red ones! One of my feet is slightly bigger than the other, and they kindly stretched that shoe a little bit with some shoe-stretching device and that did the trick! The heel was the perfect height (not too tall to make my feet hurt) and I had fun wearing them my whole wedding day! I also wore them outside for photos and didn't have any issues with traction. $40 for wedding shoes? Yes, please! Thanks Teddy's! read more

After not so much as walking into a ballet studio for almost 25 years, I've decided it's time to take an adult ballet class. I giggled when I read that I was going to need ballet shoes--something that lives in childhood memories many worlds away. Needless to say, I had no idea what was out there these days, or how to fit a ballet slipper to grownup feet. A young man named Spencer offered to help me find shoes, and then was ultra patient, bringing out a good 15 or so pairs before we found one that fit my (always challenging) feet. He never rushed me, never seemed put off that I was taking a long time to decide or wanting to try multiple styles, and never once acted even remotely like he might think my selection of shoes (someone who is obviously way out of the game) was any less important than it would be if I were a young & serious dancer. As I was trying to choose between a few final candidates, he suggested that I try the hard linoleum floor in the back room (the main floor is carpeted); this made all the difference, and I was on my way with the right pair of shoes in no time. The shop is conveniently located right off the Red Line, and while it's definitely packed, that means they have a lot of options to choose from, and heck it adds a lot of character to the place too! In short, I walked in the door feeling like a fool for being an out-of-shape 30-something asking for ballet slippers, and walked out the door being excited to start classes again. Thank you, Spencer!
