I really wanted to try one of the chicken dishes, but I'm not into thighs; I know they're trendy but I hate the texture. So I went for the Buddha Bowl, which was an amazing combination of spicy rice, stewed chickpeas, and fresh vegetables with an avocado-lime dressing. Oh my goodness, it was so interesting and delicious! My husband got the fried chicken bites with two different dipping sauces and loved them. My toddler requested avocado toast, so rather than ordering the $19 entree that came with fancy toppings she wouldn't eat, I asked for a side of toast, a side of avocado and a lemon wedge. She loved it, especially paired with a mango smoothie. Our server, whose name I sadly don't remember, was so . . . normal. She did not seat us directly in the blinding sunlight when there were tons of empty tables in the shade, or say "I'll be right back" and then disappear, or try to talk us into eating dessert at the table because it would be too hard to pack it up for us. (All of those things happened at other restaurants on the island that same week.) She was just genuinely interested in making our experience pleasant, which made it truly wonderful. There are food options here that quick for to go orders such as chia seed pudding and muffins, etc. Walking distance from Snug Cove ferry terminal and people heading off island can park their car in the ferry lineup then order coffee or foods to go. While I appreciate that exceptions can occasionally occur, it felt disappointing and inconsistent with the policy communicated to guests. We were seated inside and waited appropriately 15 minutes before a server came to our table. After placing our food & beverage order, another patio table became available, and I asked if we could be moved there. The server initially agreed but later advised that the table was being held for another party. Interestingly, both patio tables remained unoccupied for quite some time, and guests who eventually occupied them arrived at least 30 minutes after we requested to be seated outside. Unfortunately, the service continued to disappoint. Our drinks took approximately 15 more minutes to arrive and the food arrived 20 minutes after that. After finishing our meal, we waited another 15 minutes before we flagged down a server to order a second round of beverages. We also had to request that the empty plates be removed. The food and atmosphere were enjoyable, but the overall service experience fell well below expectations. While this cafe is small (cozy) and has one woman, it is a local favourite and beloved by the community (and her grandchildren) she is from chile I believe and I appreciate her decision to only source fair trade coffee. Absolutely great service industry experience and dedicated to one task at a time with integrity and skill. Her baked goods are fresh and she always has editions of 'the coffee news' and a gorgeous tiled counter to sit at where you have a view of the sandwich preparation and the juice pressing, I was so impressed to see fresh oranges and the beetroot ginger and carrot and apple go through the juice maker!
