Our first time at Temaki and we sure left with a great impression! Our lunch bentos were decent, all the individual items were done right, e.g. even their gyoza were juicy and the wrappings were cooked properly! I also like the Gomaae ( Spinach in sesame dressing ) refreshing and not over powered with the sauce. Tempura were light and crispy i.e. freshly made to order! After we got our lunch bentos and we felt confident enough to order some sushi to try out .. Ika ( Squid ) very fresh not chewy at all .. Hokkaido Uni super fresh and love that it was chilled to the right temp when served, this way the natural ocean umami explodes in your mouth! Glad we made the decision to try their sushi ... am sure we will be back to try our more items! Paid street parking available around the area! First time visiting and I had a wonderful experience! Went for dinner and I'm glad I got a reso as the place filled up shortly at 6pm on a weekday. The interiors are clean and spacious and the servers were very attentive with refilling drinks and had greet reccomendations. We ordered the salmon sashimi, nigiris (chopped scallop, hamachi, salmon and negitoro), dragon roll and crab mentaiko udon to share. I loved how the sashimi was plated on a bed of ice, and the salmon was soooo fresh. Next were the nigiris and my favourites were the hamachi and choppef scallop. I loved how the rice to fish ratio was perfect. The dragon roll was also amazing and I loved the unagi. The crab mentaiko udon was plenty to share and tasted amazing. First time trying Temaki and was nice to see the nice decor inside. It is nice and open. Service was good too. We weren't very hungry so ordered the dinner box and chicken karaage to share between the 2 of us. It was nice that the server gave each of us a miso soup. The dinner box was like most other dinner box at other Japanese restaurants but the salmon nigiri was wild salmon although small piece. The salad dressing was more taste than most. Grabbed take out for our NYE family dinner and since the party tray had all of the rolls that we like, we decided to choose that along with a few hot dishes. Maki Tray - this came with all of the expected rolls including chopped scallop, california, dynamite, salmon, tuna, kappa, unagi, house, alaska, spicy tuna, futomaki and bc roll. We swapped out the bc roll for a negitoro (+1) as they allow ONE roll substitution and it was a great decision as the negitoro was delicious! The tray itself had good sushi rolls but there was nothing that stood out and the price was quite high. Tako Karaage - fried little octopuses, delicious seasoning and a light sauce. Small portion for the price though... Chicken Karaage - I didnt feel like this had too much flavour but it came with spicy mayo to dip in. Liked how the chunks of meat were large. Oyster Motoyaki - Wasnt too heavy even with the white sauce and had a small piece of oyster in each one. Overall, the food here is good but the prices are very high with nothing that really stood out. The rolls were nicely made though and fish was fresh. This is my go-to place to grab lunch whenever I am in the area and I must say Temaki Sushi never fails to disappoint. Considering the noise and hullabaloo of the construction in the area, the welcoming and warm ambiance of Temaki offers a quite respire to clear one's headspace and enjoy one's meal in relative peace. The service is prompt even with the rush of diners and they are pretty quick to get you whatever you need. I have always dined alone here but have seen families, couples all around so it's a place for everyone and there's no preference for one set of people over the other which I appreciate. About the food, I have mainly had different sushi rolls and have liked everything that I have tried. The last time I was in here, I had a scoop of their coconut Mango icecream which was *Chefs kiss*. Everything was super fresh and tasty, but our favourite was hands-down the Toro aburi. We made reservations and got seated within a few minutes. We came by again last night and our wait was approximately 35 minutes. We ordered the snapper tempura and kanpachi crudo based on a recommendation from a friend. We just had to get the Toro aburi as a treat because who doesn't love aburi? We got a spicy salmon roll and a spicy tuna roll as something that would fill us up and they definitely hit the spot. Seafood is super fresh, well presented and everything is made with love and care. Each round of omakase was different so I didn't feel like I was repeating the same dinner. I love chawanmushi so I order it whenever a restaurant offers it. This is by far the best I have ever had with tasty big bites of prawn and scallop. Dungeness crab salad was amazing, fried snapper was so light and airy, tuna gomae had a nice kick of wasabi house made panna cotta was so delicate yet creamy. Honestly there was not one bad dish. I also love that they give fresh wasabi here. Service is awesome here, attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. Will is humorous and approachable. He recommended one of the best sakes I've ever had. If I was forced to choose a last meal, this place would be it. The assorted sashimi plank (16 pcs) contained a stellar variety of perfectly cut and scored fish and seafood. The hotate was sublime and the wild Pacific salmon was worth the upgrade from farmed. The octopus sunomono salad was perfectly seasoned. This place is without a doubt one of the best we've experienced outside of Japan. Shiso leaves and sea vegetables appeared on the plank. The most hospitable service ever. I've passed by Temaki's exterior several times and have always been curious about the place, but never tried it until last weekend. The menu has a variety of offerings and some great lunch takeout options, which has been updated due to the pandemic. I ordered the roll set for takeout which featured a Dynamite roll, spicy tuna roll and chopped scallop roll. All tasted really good and the rolls were constructed nicely; well-packed and did not fall apart upon first bite. I found a small park nearby with cherry blossoms in season to eat my takeout, which made me feel like I was on vacation in Japan or something. And so I was a little put off by the disdainfully muttered "20 minutes late". Not how I was expecting to be greeted. It was our first time eating here and we were looking forward to it based on the recommendations. Overall, I would say good quality but not good value. Here is what we ordered: Appetizers: Chicken karaage, $10, boneless and well executed and sauce had some bite. Takoyaki - five pieces, $10, good but a little greasy. The rest of the order: Prawn tempura- six pieces, $16! Nothing special Sockeye Salmon Roll, $4, decent Chef's Roll, $14, over priced for a vegetarian roll (mango, avocado, cucumber) Chopped scallop roll, $6, good Real crab roll $8.5, good but a bit dry The food came out quickly, the serving staff were friendly and attentive and we were finished and out the door in 40 minutes (at 7 pm). We are appreciative of the strain on the restaurant industry and we are making an effort to support them. We customers can also be frazzled by the end of a stressful work week. A little patience and understanding goes a long way. Let's all remember to be spread kindness because it's better for everyone compared to the alternative. Total bill was over $71. We have been waiting for this place to open up and it didn't disappoint! Fresh and so delicious! We had the crispy rice tuna, several hand rolls and unagi nigiri. The unagi was made perfectly! My sis was in town and wanted sushi with a large group. That narrowed the options down but we decided to give Temaki Sushi a try. It's a few doors down from Yagoto Sushi, Z&W Shanghai and Gyo Para Gyoza & Ramen Bar. We dropped in on a Saturday evening (with 7:00pm reservations). Holy crap, it was busy. The inside has a mix of tables, sushi bar seats and a couple larger, secluded booths. Service was decent but you'll have to flag someone down for tea refills. Food came out at a good pace for our table of 5. The menu is huge; salads & sides, appetizers, tempura, robata (BBQ), sashimi, nigiri, chef's recommendation, aburi sushi, noodles, teriyaki, donburi, assorted sushi, dinner specials and maki sushi. They did have a separate sheet for their daily fresh options. - Yoshi no gawa goku-jo premium ginko sake ($29.95 for 300ml) - three of us shared a bottle of ginko sake. Light, cold and smooth. - Agedashi tofu ($6.50) - deep fried tofu with radish, green onions and bonito. Standard fare. - Ika karrage ($8.50) - deep fried squid. Breading/coating was lighter than I expected. - Takoyaki ($8.00) - deep fried octopus croquette with katsu sauce, mayo and bonito. A little too saucy for my liking. - Assorted tempura ($14.00) - four prawn and three vegetable pieces. Prawns were good. Vegetables tasted a touch heavy. - Negitoro maki ($4.75), real crab roll ($8.50) and chop scallop roll ($6.00) - the negitoro was excellent. Rice was tightly packed but broke apart in your mouth. The chopped scallop was fresh. Real crab wasn't particularly memorable. - Miso black cod ($16.00) - pan seared marinated sable fish. The fish was flaky and tender yet still retained a bite. It's a small amount but perfectly cooked. - Deluxe sushi ($26.00) - tuna-salmon maki with 10 pieces of assorted nigiri (chef's selection). Nigiri were all good. - Chef's sashimi ($48.00 for 30 pieces) - this comes out beautifully presented. We were given 10 types (three pieces of each); salmon, tuna, hotate, tako, hokkigai, ika, tuna gomae, shima aji, hamachi and kanpachi. Every piece was fresh and of good quality. Seriously such a good deal! - Beef udon ($10.00) - an abundance of beef with sliced cabbage and green onion. Broth was homey. Udon had a toothsome bite. Beef was slightly over cooked but overall, a decent bowl of udon. - Salmon kama ($8.00) - decent but a lot of skin and bones. Not sure I'd personally have ordered this myself. - Unagi don ($18.00) - BBQ eel on rice with Japanese yellow pickled daikon. Unagi was tender but not sure I'd get it if we hadn't shared. - 2x Tamago ($2.50) - always end my meal off with a piece of tamago nigiri. Better than average. The customer service is a total friendly and efficient delight, the menu is the perfect size, and the high quality of the food is obvious. It was super busy on a Friday lunch so we were pleased to find an available table for 2. My friend and I split the asparagus appetizer ($6), which my friend raved about. We each got a miso soup to start. It was nothing special but it was enough to warm us up on a windy day. Nat went with the Lunch bento A which came with chicken teriyaki, california rolls, salad and gyoza. The gyoza had crispy edges but it was quite oily. The california rolls were more imitation crab heavy than rice so that was a good sign and the chicken teriyaki had 4 piece of chicken. I was still recovering from being sick so I opted for a simple oyako don. Unfortunately it was not good at all. The rice was mushy and gummy and there wasn't enough sauce to go around and flavor the rice bowl so I ended up added soy sauce. The chicken wasn't pan fried. Instead it was battered and put into the fryer but it wasn't done well because the outside coating was soggy so I ended up taking it all off. I wouldn't get this again nor would I recommend it to anyone. Perhaps sticking with the lunch bentos and other menu items are best. read more

Monday night was my first time at Temaki Sushi. We got there around 7 pm on a Monday night. The restaurant was relatively busy for a Monday night. I parked at a meter in front of the restaurant.... Only $1.00 for 1 hour! Awesome!!! Is there anywhere in this city where us tax paying citizens don't have to feed a parking meter these day? Ok... the restaurant is ok... it's decor was what I would classify as average... clean and functional... My g/f and I shared so we ended up ordering the sashimi tempera dinner box, unagi don, some nigiri sushi (tamago, foie gras, and scallop)... I would say the food was ok, but I would say it did not stand out in any way. It's kind of like the Keg of Japanese restaurant food I guess... every time I go to the Keg I'm never disappointed. The food is generally pretty good, but If you were celebrating Valentine's Day you wouldn't go here! If you're looking for something special Temaki Sushi is not the place to come, but for an average night out, this place is certainly passable! I think we'll be back here. The even have fresh fish selections that usual comfort sushi restaurants dont have so this is definitelt a to go place if you want fresh cut like toro blue fin tuna and etc. However, again, this is not the best sushi place in town maybe the same level as grean leaf sushi. Tried this restaurant after my work in the morning, hoping this will sate my hunger and tired body. I ordered the Deep Fried California Roll $8, Spicy Agedashi Tofu $7 and Takoyaki $8. Spicy Agedashi Tofu is fine. Takoyaki: I tried chewing each one more, looking forward for the tako inside. It turned out that the size of tako inside was as big as a corn kernel. Wow! I paid 8$ for a kernel size tako. Deep Fried California Roll: Smaller than the regular california roll and I paid extra 3.50$ just for them to fried it. Very different and disappointing from other restaurants. I paid expensive for the ambience, not for the quality of food. It's better to eat in cheap japanesee restaurants which will satisfy the means of the food, rather than in an expensive one with nothing on your food. read more

I really looked forward to coming this placed based on both yelp and google reviews. I drove from Burnaby to come check out this highly rated sushi restaurant. Food and service overall is good, however what dragged down the score for me was the pricing as it was over priced compared to the quality and ambience we were in. Here is full breakdown of what we ordered: Spicy Karage Chicken - this was good, portion size was alright Today's Sashimi (Chef's Choice) - $45 for 15 pc portion was very small for the price and the sashimi quality was only OK. I think the only fish that stood out this dish was the Oachu Blue fin Tuna. Presentation could also use some improvement Nigiri Order (Chopped scallop, Saba, hotatage, tamago) Saba was really good then again its my favorite. Tamago OK nothing compares to Japan tamago. Chopped scallop nigiri a little too much rice. A comment on the overall rice it was packed a bit too firm for our liking. Bansai Sushi - I really wanted to like this dish but it was filled with too much rice and sauce and I could not taste any of the fish inside. Sushi Bento Box - cant complain too much about this my kids finished it all super quickly they love bento boxes. California roll was nicely done not too much rice on outside. Again good place if you are already in the nearby area. Also this place is very popular does not take reservations so be prepared to come early or be prepared to wait a bit. Let's say in food business some think that the more they pay, the better the quality. Some restaurants thrive on the idea and crank up the prices and customers eat it up. While the food was not so bad here at Temaki, it was not extraordinary either. The food and service was average and the food came much later after you ordered. Prices though was something to chew on. $33 for Chirashi Don and $20 for a simple roll like Pacific Roll was just overwhelming. The restaurant itself is not that bad and perhaps the location and the type of customers eat there effect the prices. Overall, the food and service was average and the time to get your food was longer than other places while the prices were at least 1.5 more. I hope your experience is different than ours. read more
