Located on the first floor of an apartment building on the southwest corner of Holdom and Lougheed Hwy. Parking appears to be quite limited but we managed to find a paid spot. Ordered the negitori, Las Vegas and Rainbow rolls. They were okay. Rice seemed a bit old and dry for all our rolls. This Japanese sushi spot is a small authentic shop. When we arrived as a group of 8 people, we were informed that an 18% gratuity is automatically applied. Knowing this, we still dined in expecting a good experience. However, it is upsetting that we received poor service instead. The waiters and waitresses here are not attentive to your orders, since our food was sitting at the sushi bar counter for 15 minutes before it was actually brought to our table. Made a revisit to this little restaurant to try out their lunch menu and WOW I have to say, what great prices for a filling meal! I got their Chirashi Lunch which came with Miso Soup and at just $15, this was well topped bowl of fresh tuna, salmon, white fish, tamago and Ebi. The rice underneath was well flavoured and had a small drizzle of teriyaki sauce to bring it a little extra flavour. Although I arrived at around two, they were happy to serve us and did not rush us to leave when they closed for a break at three. It was not very full, service was quick and friendly and they came by to refill our tea multiple times. Highly recommended for a good sushi meal near Brentwood area. read more

We came here on the spur of the moment for a late dinner based on the reviews. We barely made the last call & ordered a mound of food. Our out of town guests were impressed by the ambience & tasty fresh sushi that they wanted to order more but no more final last call. I understand that they had a long day & needed to close. Everyone's favourite was the assorted sushi combo party tray! Only steps away from the Holdom skytrain station. There's metered parking out front which is free after 8 pm. Really enjoyed my lunch here today. It was my first visit although my companions had been numerous times. It lived up to all expectations. Las Vegas roll was fantastic. Dynamite roll and spicy tuna roll also really good. But the gyoza, oh my goodness, they are the best I have ever had. SOOOO good. It's been a while since I've been to sushimoto because there are just soooo many other great Japanese restaurants in Vancouver but we ended up dining there the other day because we were out late and pretty much everything else was closed. That is not to say that it was our last resort but it was a pretty delicious option for 10pm at night. To start we got the daily sashimi special which came with two slices of snapper, arctic surf clam, salmon and tuna. Something I love about sushimoto is that when you order sashimi, they give you a bowl of sushi rice with it so you can make your own nigiri rolls or just eat as is. The seafood here is always super fresh so it is at a higher price point than other sushi restaurants in the area. Next was the kitsune udon to get something warm. Nothing special here, just udon noodles in a light dashi broth with some fish cake on top. read more

The sashimi comes out cold, the pieces are a bit thick but I don't mind that especially since it gives me more quantity out of my pieces. The salmon is good, absolutely no complaints there, and for the price I'd say the salmon is one of the best things to get on the menu! The bluefin tuna was also tasty, however at an increased price I don't think it was worth that much of a premium. The toro definitely a middle ground between the salmon and the bluefin tuna for price, and could be worth it if you enjoy tuna. Overall, there's not much to say about Sushimoto because I had very little complaints. If you want a cheap sushi night that also provides decent quality then Sushimoto is your place. My cousin and I decided to stop by for dinner and they were available for dine in, however they initially turned us away because they were all filled inside but there was a table outside and they said they were okay with serving us there, which is why I am giving this place 4/5 instead of 5/5. We decided to get the organic alaska roll, dragon roll, awesome cream cheese roll and volcano roll. I was actually so impressed because the rolls are actually much bigger now, the last time I ate here the rolls were too small which was why I never returned until now. The rolls all had generous fillings, toppings and sauce. The organic alaska roll had alot of avocado and a nice salad dressing and the salmon was very fresh, it also came with a side salad. I usually am not one who enjoys cream cheese in a sushi roll but my cousin insisted on trying the awesome cream cheese roll and it was actually pretty good, the seared salmon on top paired nicely with it. The dragon roll was one of the better ones I've tried, the unagi was soo delicious. The volcano roll was pretty good too, the chopped scallop was so fresh and the spicy sauce was actually really good, not just spicy mayo. Sushimoto was chosen as our venue for lunch the other day. An anticipated first-time visit for us - we arrived at the restaurant a few minutes before it opened at 11:30 am. The restaurant is located about mid-way in a small and rather neat & tidy plaza of retail shops and services at the base of a high-rise tower, adjacent the Holdom Skytrain Station. The restaurant is quite small, and cozy in its design, setup, colours, and decor. The largest tables are arranged along the window, remaining tables along the one inside wall, and down the centre section, plus, there's a long counter & chair setup directly in front of, and beneath the chef's doing their thing in the kitchen. For us, after getting settled into our table, it looked and 'felt' comfy. Service to our table was friendly and helpful -- our server kept tea mugs full, and showed attentive-caring to our dining enjoyment. We ordered the sushi combo B and it came with two miso soup and two rolls of california rolls, two rolls of dynamite rolls and two salmon nigiri, two tuna nigiri and 2 ebi nigiri. Very good sushi that filled two people. Portion wasn't like super big. The quality of the sushi is high. Decor is interesting. Pay attention to their sushi bar counter seats. We loved that they brought out hot tea as soon as we sat down, and gave us multiple free refills. The service was friendly and attentive. Plus, the decor was cute and kitschy. But they definitely have a shortage of parking options... The only spot we could find was a metered parking space around the corner. They also have sort of a funky smell when you walk in, but we got used to it after a few minutes. Lastly, someone else had commented about seeing flies/gnats during their visit, and we too had some gnats circling our food and drinks. I tried this place for the first time with a very good friend. The sushi is very fresh and delicious. Quality is very good for this tiny little place. We had assorted sushi which was very fresh. The baked oyster was tasty. The dynamite roll was decent. The agedeshi tofu was a bit off. The tofu tasted chalky which was kind of unexpected. Overall very happy with this meal. It was warm in the restaurant and air conditioning should be considered. Prices are ok but a little on the high side. Service was good. The servers kept refilling our water. Deciding to change my review for sushimoto. The experience that I had today was absolutely disgusting. In fact sushimoto you've lost me sadly as a customer. Today my girlfriend and I decided to attend an early dinner at sushimoto because we have been here several times for the past 7 or so years. Every previous experience has been nothing but amazing however I feel like this is not a reflection of the store owner and that this waitress could get some additional training on her customer service skills. To the young pale waitress that needs to clean her ears out. I placed an order for 12 SALMON BELLY STEAK. The waitress for some reason misunderstood our order and put down 12 TORO STEAK. She even double checked with us our order verbally and myself and girlfriend both heard her say Salmon steak and assumed that from that point on the order would be fine. Upon receiving the order she brought out 12 Toro steak and we brought it to her attention immediately that we ordered Salmon. The waitress quickly got defensive and had the audacity to say that no we ordered Toro and that we didn't order salmon. If I had ordered Toro then we would not be having this conversation. Again I DID NOT. And again I told her that we did NOT order Toro and that she didn't write down the correct order. The waitress was super reluctant to take back the incorrect order and still insist that we take the Toro. We repeated several times that we did not want Toro and that we wanted the salmon. So she then proceeds to take back the wrong order to the kitchen staff. We assumed that after this ordeal she would understand that we want S A L M O N B E L L Y by now but nope. She comes back again and tries to pawn off the Toro situation all over again. Mind you I don't know if she was scared of getting in trouble with her superior for having to waste the kitchen staffs time and plus wasting tuna but came back to try to convince us again to take the order. She asked if we could at least do 6 Toro and 6 Salmon Belly. AGAIN I said I did not want to repeat myself and we order 12 salmon belly and it's not our fault that she can't do a proper job of writing down a damn order. She reluctantly complies and proceeds to take wrong order back to the kitchen and corrects our order. When she finally came back with the correct order she still had the audacity to say "we changed your Toro order to salmon". Lol she just wouldn't let it go lmao. I really regret leaving a 10 % tip actually. If you're reading this. Please go brush up on your customer services skills. Use the 10 percent tip to buy a box of q tips so when you take orders you'll know what they've said even tho we repeated 6 times. The meal I say is delicious but we couldn't enjoy it because of this interaction with this said waitress. If management is reading this please relay this feedback to her. The simple fix to this situation would of been something along the lines of this. "Oh I'm sorry I wrote down the wrong order let me fix it immediately. And that's that.. Lol I can't even. I get that it's expensive to prepare those Toro steaks and what not but don't think it was handled very well. If a customer is insistent of not wanting that order then don't force it down the customers throat. read more

The quality of the food deserves 5 stars but the service wasn't enough to warrant the 100% rating. I sat there for quite a while until the menu was brought to me, and even then I had to ask for a cup of water. The waitresses never refilled the glass nor did they check up on me once. Now, onto a more positive note. The food is delicious. I ordered the lunch special chirashi, which came with miso soup. Interestingly, they served the rice with eel sauce- it went superbly well with the sashimi. Fish was fresh and nicely presented. The price was fair too as most chirashi don go for ~$12-13 range, and the lunch special was $10. I will probably come back if I'm in the area. Aside from the fact that it is really your only option in this part of town, the sushi is generally better than you'd expect and is one of the better restaurants even in the GVA. I always have a good experience at Sushimoto. One of my good friends loves it here and decided to take me here for me to try the food. Of course, I ended up loving it and recommending it to all of my friends who now are also fans of this place. I would recommend making reservations if you want to avoid waiting around during prime dinner hours. Arriving at 7:50PM was a 25 minute wait which was okay for us as it gave us time to look through their menu. It's great how their menu has individual pictures and a description of each roll so you know exactly what to expect. The one thing that immediately sets Sushimoto apart from other sushi joints is the option to order sushi rice with your sashimi with no additional charge. On the other hand, if you're watching your carb intake, you can also request them to lessen the portion of rice in your nigiri. The sashimi was average but solid, the tuna had good texture. On the other hand, I didn't like the seared toro steak nigiri at all, it was just like an average sized slice of tuna (not the belly) and tasted over-seared/over cooked - not worth $2.5 per piece. I liked the components of the Organic Alaska roll, it was essentially an avocado roll with salmon on top on a bed of organic greens but I really didn't like how the roll sat in a pool of overly sour salad dressing. It was way too strong and overpowering. The Amusement roll (soybean skin, unagi, cream cheese, cucumber, crabmeat, salmon, ikura, masago, wasabi mayo & unagi sauce) and Volcano roll (california roll with seared chopped scallop on top, green onions, misonnaise & spicy sauce) were better but nothing outstanding. I literally live a block away and didn't know this place existed until about a year ago. This is my favourite place to get sushi, ever. This place makes Sushi Garden and Sushi Town look and taste and feel like trash. Everything is so much better here. The interior + atmosphere is modern yet homey, and the service is SO MUCH better than what you would get at Sushi Garden or Sushi Town. The food is so good. The fish is amazingly fresh. When I go for lunch I always get the lunch special chirashi! So cheap and so good. You basically can't go wrong here. Everything is good. Is the food average? Well, in the sense that they're in between the traditional traditional sushi and the more modern style of Sushi Garden, then yes, they are a little stuck in between those styles and to the standards of both styles, average. What I liked - their baked scallop (that's not the actual name, but look for the scallop that's based in this tiny little cup). It's like motoyaki, except it's not soaked in mayonnaise. It has tamago littered inside the mixture, and I don't know what they add, but it's not the overly rich taste of fat that is mayonnaise. It is something better. Sushi isn't bad. Taste good. But the main thing is after having been there for awhile, I still remember this little cup of baked scallop. So, give that a try when you go. Oh, and they actually treat you really well, and won't rush you. We got a few complimentary dishes as well, and we didn't really order that much (party of 2).
