This is the second year I'm under contract with Westmore for auto-delivery of heating oil. I left…read moremy prior provider, Robison, because Westmore's rates were much more competitive. My review is based on the fact that I am set up for auto delivery with Westmore, and recently, they failed to auto deliver heating oil in time. My thermostat the last cycle was set no differently than usual. While the temperatures some days last month were extremely cold, Westmore should take that into account when determining when customers' tanks need re-filling. Most importantly, in the four years I was under contract with Robison for automatic delivery, they never missed a delivery. To Westmore's credit, once I notified a customer service agent that I was without heat, a technician came two hours later and provided me with 15 gallons of heating oil - enough to get me through until a truck came to fill the tanks the next day. But it wasn't that simple. Because Westmore allowed the tanks to run dry, the technician had to bleed the boiler before it could start up again. All of this occurred at 8:30 pm, I had to let the technician in to service the boiler, show him where the tanks were, etc. Was it the biggest ordeal ever? Obviously, not. But it was still an ordeal, an inconvenience and frustrating given how easily avoidable the situation should have been. When I'm under contract, for which I am paying fees for automatic delivery in the first place, it should never happen at all. Perhaps instead of using an algorithm for calculating heat usage, which obviously was not accurate, they should utilize a Wifi-equipped tank monitor, as Robison would, so that they can be certain when customers' tanks, such as my own, need to be refilled. I called the next day (prompted, in part, by the fact that I received an invoice for the 15 gallons of heating oil that they provided at 8:30 pm, which just seemed to be in bad taste given what had occurred), and I was informed that they have adjusted the algorithm they use to estimate my usage of heating oil. I appreciate the attention they gave, but it's disappointing it happened at all (again, I never had this experience in four years previously with Robison). I am hopeful that this is a one-off incident.

A 40-yr old…read moreKohler cast iron Jacuzzi tub on the 2nd floor developed a leak in one of its parts and it damaged the ceiling in the family room below. I was faced with having to remove and replace it or fix it. Because it is cast iron, removal would have necessitated thousands on repairs and renovations, fixing it was our preference. The problem was finding a qualified guy knowledgeable about jetted tubs, particularly dated ones like ours. This proved to be a daunting exercise. I lost count of emails and texts to retail stores and spa installers. I then wised up and contacted the main customer service number for Kohler and asked if they had any certified technicians in my local area. They said they have 2 and I followed up with Rob because, frankly, he reached out to me first. AND I'M GLAD I DID. He is super knowledgeable about these things and has a ton of experience and has seen it all. After I described the problem area, he asked me to send a pic of it. It was impressive that he was able to identify exactly what the part in question was, what its function was and then pinpoint the most probable cause of the malfunction. And then, refreshingly, he very clearly detailed what his charge would be for coming out and do the repair (so no surprises). We are quite a distance from him and so he added that there would be an additional charge for the travel time and gas. All in, his charge for the work done and additional travel was very reasonable. On top of that, he showed up on time and got right to work - and after a couple of tests he fixed the cause of the leaky part (and verified the repair by filling the tub). But I did reach out to Rob via email, the owner and proprietor of Classic Baths, about repairing a steam unit in my house (entire transcript below for reference). He wanted $240 just to come to my house and look at my the unit, which seemed a bit steep. Fearing that it might be a difficult repair due to location, costing me even more money, I sent him pictures of the unit to help him out. After he looked at the photos, he told me that the original installer of my unit "should be shot," and then said, "No wonder you wanted a free estimate...you deserve your contractor." He then accused me of trying to pull one over on him. His words: "You knew this was going to be a problem and didn't mention it when you wanted a free estimate. You knew there was very high likelihood that this was going to be a problem but chose not to say anything until you knew you were getting charged. You deserve your contractor. "BTW, telling you your contractor should be shot was for free." This is the kind of condescending treatment that my wife and I have grown to expect here in Westchester. We're a middle class family with a one and five year old in daycare, and sizable bills: we can't afford to throw money around. 30 years or 30 days in the business, you just shouldn't treat people with kind of disrespect.
