Great place to fish, kayak or walk around/ride a bike! Very beautiful area with apartments and businesses on each side of the lake. When I went there was a rowing competition going on and it was so much fun to watch! This is definitely a happening spot! First of all, I am very disappointed to have to be writing this review. My four children: Banjöe, Kalé, Calum, and River, all wanted to enjoy a nice summer day outside and we had heard so many great reviews of this so called "lake". My poor children have been cooped up indoors all summer and I was looking forward to treating them to a nice day out of fetch and maybe a nice picnic. Boy, like most things, I was mistaken. To begin, there were no gluten-free or vegan options for my dietary needs, only fish. Ew. Next, it was hoarded with ASU douches having their frats by the lake. An overall unpleasant experience, also the lake water didn't look fresh or drinkable in addition. Don't spend your money here. read more

I have officially decided that this is going to be my go to spot every saturday. I love going to the lake and going kayaking. It's so pretty especially after remodeling the lake. It's always peaceful and a good time. They have paddle boards as well. We tried the electric canoe and that was a blast. Even if you want to go to the park to ride your bike, or even just have a picnic, tempe has really gone above and beyond with the lake. If you haven't gone and want to do something fun outdoors while this weather is beautiful, by all means go to the tempe town lake! read more

I didn't know how big this park was nor how much it offers those who want to "play" outdoors. This year, my friends and I, have dedicated a couple of hours every Saturday to walk around the lake. It takes us about 1.5 hours to walk the five mile trail at a decent pace. The walk is worth every step. Tempe Town Lake is one of many reasons why I love living here. I've been to concerts and festivals here, Octoberfest being my favorite, and have had a great time every single time. I rented a boat here once and we had a good time just hanging out on the lake. The water isn't the cleanest but I don't think it was meant to swim in. The grounds are kept very clean and it's nice to see some grass amongst all the dirt you see in Arizona. My bf and I have made it a habit to ride our bikes from old town through the Papago bike trail. Every time we get friends to do the ride with us, they can't help but to love it. When it's just me and him, we park our bikes and do the jog around the whole lake when it's cooler temperatures. It has actually become my favorite workout, but hiking Camelback is close. I didn't think my opinion of Tempe Town Lake could get any better until I spent July 4th here. We got there early, around 6, and set up 2 blankets a bunch of chairs and a bbq. We played some board games and caught up with great conversations with friends. We even got to know some fellow BBQers and even played with the cutest baby from the picnic next to us. The fireworks show was AMAZING. The view of the fireworks over the water was breathtaking and being with the people I love was the icing on the cake. read more

I'd heard that lots of people take their dogs here, so I thought me and my pups would take a trek out there. It is surprisingly clean, and dog and family friendly. There are doggy waste areas everywhere, but you might want to ensure you bring your own water because none of the fountains worked (although they do have doggy fountains, but weren't working either ) the lake us beautiful and the people were all so friendly. Great place for a picnic, or to let your little ones play and enjoy the beautiful green grass. Definitely going to be one of my new favorite spots! read more

Uhm, can't believe I hadn't reviewed this already. So I wanted to live near water and downtown. I heard out a magical desert lake, moved over there, and now it's my playground, study place, meditation station, bikeway, place to meet my neighbors... So I represent the south side, ha, but I've played volleyball on the north side. Anyway, yup, it's pretty. I like the look of the salt river and the rushing water, and of course the ducks. I always see people fishing too but I've never seen anyone catch anything. Ok, that's my review. Check it out! read more

Pretty spot in the desert. I think as far as urban renewel goes, they did a good job. It's nice to walk around and watch the boaters. At night it is very pretty. Plenty of seating on the South side, we were able to relax and enjoy some out door time looking at water instead of desert. They have some fun events here and it's a good place to take the family. read more

Beautiful park! There's a long walking path along the lake. There are rentals you can grab to cruise the lake (kayaks, small boats, paddle boards, etc). There's a splash pad for the kiddos (opens May 2 2015). Lots to do and see and also nice benches to just hang out and relax. Always nice to see water in the desert!! read more

I love this man made lake! Been to the July 4th firework show, Christmas Boat Parade, and on a few dates with my husband. Tempe can sure put on a firework show. They say that there are thousands of people that come out here for the events, but when you are down there in the middle of it, it sure doesn't feel like it. It never feels crowded. I love the lakes! Yes it's a lake in the desert! Dragon Boat, Outrigger, and Marathons! It's the place to do it. Not sure about the fishing part, but I do see people fishing there. What are they trying to catch hmmm?? I enjoy running there on a nightly basis and so should you. South side is probably the most scenic, but not to say the North side is bad. If you're a fellow photographer I would definitely recommend this place during the evenings :) read more

It wasn't the toxic waste dump that some of the others claimed...however...was the water the cleanest? No. Did see some debris. Would I get in the water? No, but I am a beach girl any way and won't get into any lake. The area is nice for walking, jogging, picnicking, etc. Very serene area. Saw folks feeding ducks and birds. I liked it. read more

Great place to go for a walk or bike ride.

I come here a few times a month to bike around the lake both by myself and with my family. I think that it is a great place to get away to and enjoy some nature (lake/birds/fishing). They also have a marina on the lake and at times, you can find sailboats and dragon boats skimming the water. Overall, it's a really nice place in the middle of the noise and action of Tempe. read more

Their splash pad is adorable. Lots of activities and seating and shade for the parents. The water slide is a great actuvity. Next would be neat to see a little softer bottom for kids to land on. They always have great events here. Such a nice park to visit. read more

An awesome event. The splash pad for the kids was under construction so most of the kids were overheating. Went through about 6 bottles of water, letting my son dump them on himself to cool off. At two bucks a bottle...well it was worth keeping him happy. Other than that...it was a pretty good time...until the traffic nightmare at the end. An hour and a half to go 2 miles to the freeway. WORST ENTERTAINMENT for this year's 4th of July fireworks show, that I can remember since it all started.. The planners need to be FIRED... First, a girl singing country, that engaged about 200 people of approx 50,000... The other 49,800 were so disconnected and bored... To make it worse, she thought she was a star and beside playing country songs that only 50 of the 200 really knew, she kept playing her own originals, which pretty much disengaged 180 of the 200 country fans, leaving about 20 drunks, who kept screaming at her how hot she was, which lead her to believe she was rocking the crowd.... Nothing against country, but there is a time and place... This was NEITHER... To add to the disaster, they decided to do "Arizona Idol" and further put the 50,000 patrons to Zzzzzzzzzzzzz land... This was so bad, that it felt like it would never end... Finally, they MC or host(s) would not stop talking... They kept talking and talking and talking and when they wanted the audience to scream, they would get a handful of people to yell out from the front row... I was never so bored and so embarrassed for Tempe and this usually "AWESOME" show... Now the FIREWORKS themselves... WOW...as usually, they were outstanding.. Probably one of the best shows ever... I just wish they would have a speaker aimed toward the water area, so all those thousands standing and sitting down by the water could hear the music too... But, at least I could barely hear all the other crap that was coming out of the mouths of piss poor entertainment.... Maybe next year they will get it right... Thank you, TEMPE.. I do appreciate your efforts and you have given my numerous years of great entertainment... You just missed a year (2013) - I will be back... read more

Tempe Town Lake is excellent for what it is. It's a usable urban lake. You can kayak, sailboat, etc... or just taking advantage of a nice bike ride or stroll around the lake. The negative comments are nothing but comical. If the lake was not there people would be desperately missing it because it would go back to being the way it was..... just like other cities: Mesa.... Apache Junction.... Gilbert..... Chandler..... Phoenix...... ...boring and unattractive. read more

I don't know what it is with people complaining about the cleanliness of the water at TTL. I work at (on) the lake coaching. The water quality is continuously tested by SRP because of the number of events & activities at the lake that involve swimming or getting wet. Splash & Dash, triathlons, stand-up-paddleboard & rowing (people fall in every once in awhile). They also have to keep it clean enough that the fish don't all die when they stock it. Thanks to the lake we have a lot more activities available to us: kayaking, SUP, rowing, dragon boating, outrigger canoe, fishing, boat rentals. I love the lake and would not be able to stand living in the desert without it! read more

What a little gem nestled in the bustling college town of Tempe! I have been to this location on two occasions (both for large events) and have always been impressed with the ease of finding parking (although we had to pay both times) and the security. Oktoberfest here was fantastic as the weather was mild and the beer was tasty! Fourth of July was hot (although I hear not as hot as it could have been) but nonetheless we had a great time. The location is well maintained and has surprising very little litter on the grounds. On my last visit, I noticed that there is a pretty awesome splash pad for children and plan to take my son there as soon as I can. There is a beautiful lake (obviously from the name duh) in the center of the park and you can take boat rides and enjoy the water. The park itself is surrounded by tall buildings sporting names of large companies, kind of reminiscent of Central Park (only much smaller), which provide a great ambient light in the late evening hours. There are picnic benches and charcoal grills available for use that are well maintained too. All in all - I have been to better parks, but this one is a little gem for this area! read more

I like walking my dog along here at night on cool nights (humidity too much in summer). I usually park by the arts center and am always fascinated by their water features. Move towars the beach park and take in the lights on the bridge and light rail. Quick and easy but still peaceful. read more

Great place for running, biking, picnics, and kayaking. Good spot for a date! Walk around and then head off to Mill Ave for food and drinks. There is more parking at the Tempe Center for the Arts if the little lot is full. read more
