My kids really loved this place, most of the coaches are great. Unfortunately one of them, who I think is a manager or owner, is a real A-hole. He was rude to me and a crappy teacher to my kids who needed special attention, not to be order around like a drill sergant. I was spending about $400 a month here, but we won't be returning. Tempest is a great place for young ones to learn, practice and perfect his/her parkour swag. (Although, to be honest, every time we've been, only boys working out here.) Classes for different ages/levels are limited in size, so students mostly get individualized attention and time to work on the various foundational, and then progressively complex, repertoire of parkour moves and tricks. Be forewarned they will nickel and dime you for every single thing: every session, open gym, advancement tests, wrist bands, etc., etc. Okay, already. Surprised they're not more discriminate about their background music, which is pulsating and beat-driven, keeps the kids moving, and most of which is fine. But not all of it is age-appropriate; there are young kids and parents here, too, so they should weed out and not impose on anyone the few inappropriate selections promoting explicitly misogynistic or criminal themes and incredibly foul language. Why work their bodies, then befoul their young, impressionable minds? Overall, Tempest offers a great service, is a hugely popular and renowned facility, but this is definitely business. We just celebrated my daughter's 9th birthday here, and we had the most amazing time! As a mom of 3, I've had my share of bday party venues and this place really exceeded all of my expectations. The coaches were very engaged and entertaining with all of the activities that the parents could just sit back, relax, eat/drink, and have a great time too! The kids absolutely loved the games, all of the challenges, running and jumping. There is a nice, clean space to set up for food, drinks and a cake display. The bathrooms are clean and well maintained. There are plenty of different jumping and climbing areas for the kids to explore. And to top it all off, there are no hidden fees like other places, the staff really helps you with the set up/clean up, they are so accommodating with all of your needs/requests, and the prices are highly competitive when comparing it to other venues. Really disappointed with my first experience. I mentor 3 young men, all age 14 and right now they're on summer break. So, I thought it would be great to expose them to new experiences and they're never tried free running before. Was also super excited to try it out myself for the first time! I called the day before to ask about pricing and setting up a time to stop by. I was specifically told to sign an online waiver, which we all did, and show up after 4 for the teens class. We drove 1 hour and a 1/2 both ways only to be told there is no class we can try. Furthermore, the blond lady that helped us the front desk was not very friendly. The staff should be trained better to greet incoming guests better and be more helpful to the needs of their possible future customers. read more

Our 5 year old son absolutely loves coming to Parkour at Tempest so much so that we went from once a week to twice a week and even doing extra drop in classes! We tried soccer & other sports but he has finally found what he enjoys! He has gained so much confidence within himself and seeing his skills grow is so amazing. I gotta give these guys the credit they deserve. They treated us right!! My nephew, a member, thought it'd be fun to have he and his sister and my little ones go for the open gym. We tell the kids, who are crazy excited, pack everyone into the car, make the drive then once we arrive are told that my kids are too young. They were crushed. Now they're crying and we're ushering them into the car promising we'll find something fun to do. My wife runs in quick to use the bathroom and returns with a big smile on her face. The Management said that attendance was pretty light so, as long as we watch 'em, the kids can come and play. Now everyone's smiles. These guys have an awesome facility. Everything that, as a boy, I was told not to do you can do here. Well all the G rated stuff...except for setting fires. The girls had a great time, the other kids were generally respectful, the instructors were imminently patient, especially with that Dad who was supposed to be watching his kids and was instead trying to walk across the bars 8 ft off the ground. I do not/did not participate but I have gone to watch my husband and I must say I am impressed ... Saw a bit of the kids open gym and was really impressed with the way all the kids were encouraging eachother and the way the parents were supporting their kids and other children there. Watching my husbands class and open gym I saw the same thing ..everyone there is really encouraging and friendly ...it is a great atmosphere. Warning it is a gym and def has the gym smell sometimes but I grew up with that and it is a gym soooo it is what it is. I really enjoyed watching and it made me kind of want to try and I really want to do the foam put soooo maybe I'll do an open gym...maybe :) I also love the Mario Brothers theme and the colors in the building Again I haven't taken a class ...I've only observed and from that I really like what I have seen :) today they had testing and to see the coaches talking to the kids who didn't pass was also impressive they really took time to encourage the kids and talk about what this was and wasn't and that it wasn't a failure they will learn more and do more etc ....really impressed with their approach and how encouraging and supportive everyone was there read more

I booked a private event for my kids and their friends. They had so much fun, and the parents loved getting the kids out of the house for something fun and different. Everyone at Tempest was friendly and helpful, from Jennifer, who was checking everyone in and getting us settled, to coaches Mario and Brett, who were great at getting the kids excited about all the activities. Our group had a mix of kids from ages 5 to 13, and Mario and Brett were able to draw everyone in. I was afraid my 5 year old would be too intimidated to participate, but the coaches kept all of the kids engaged. In the end, the kids, big and small, had a blast playing a giant game of dodgeball. I did have a mishap in booking my event, but Jessica, the manager, was quick to reach out and make things right. I appreciate that she valued us as customers. Overall, we loved our experience at Tempest, and some of our friends are already talking about coming back. read more

My sister was very shy and would usually keep to herself, so I thought by taking classes her social skills would be a bit better. Going in, she was definitely nervous but now she absolutely loves it and looks forward to coming in every week! The coaches are very friendly and helpful (according to her) and they update me on her performance after classes. She's also made a few friends which makes me very happy. She's finally super excited about something (other than her video games and tv)!!!! The front desk girls are also very helpful when it comes to scheduling and always super friendly when we walk in. Always fun and cool place to be. The boys just loves it and their instructors are there to guide, entertain and keeping it safe. The setup is really cool and adventurous. Kids can run, jump, climb and even dive into a cool sponge pool. Safety is the main concern in this place but after being there at least three or four times in a different occasions, it seems that safety is well covered and being a priority to keep everyone in one piece. read more

About a year and a half ago, I thought I'd try parkour out - I was way into the video game Mirror's Edge and wanted to try it out, IRL. And after a quick search of places in the valley to learn, it seemed Tempest was the place to go. And believe me, it definitely was and still is. All the coaches know their stuff so well, and not only that, do a great job at teaching that stuff to their students. They all have their own teaching style, but each one is talented and experienced, at parkour and at coaching it too, which is definitely a skill all of its own. And coming from someone who has a lot of mental blocks holding him back, they are always patient and willing to give progressions and help you do what you need to do to achieve your goals. And even just walking in, the people working in the office are just incredibly helpful and will make an effort to get to know you, which, at least for me, just makes it feel like all the people there are genuinely invested in seeing me and the other students improve and work their way up through the bands. Going here, I was lucky enough to find one of the most supportive, creative, and motivational group of people I've ever come across. If you're in the Valley and want to learn parkour, definitely check this place out :) read more

Tempest did rectify the situation. Truly, the staff has always been very kind and friendly. The teaching staff and facilities have always been top notch as other reviewers have pointed out. It would be nice if there was some things they could do to better empower parents to help their kids prepare for tests, and it would be nice if the importance of testing was moderated by in-class participation. It's a different kind of activity and while appreciate the "sport". I think the operator needs to make a better effort at the range of the participants to be able to participate. Not everyone can do this but a lot would like to try. The young ladies are professional and very good at their customer service skills. They have a nice selection of snacks which can help pass the time. The instructors are kids themselves and really lack the professionalism that is needed. So over time they will get better or the business will hurt. It is obvious that if you are athletic then you get the lions share of attention which is unfortunate. read more

Okay, this place is great. The instructors are very knowledgeable and the facility is designed very well. My only problem is that they haven't quite figured out how to manage their administrative duties. Since they only have one person at the desk and a clunky registration process, be prepared to stand in line to get in for upwards of 10 minutes before class. Once class actually starts this place is a dream come true. The staff lead us through a well thought out exercise and warm up session before teaching us various tricks. The instruction is very personalized to your ability with a lot of one-on-one time. I would recommend anyone who wants to try a new work out and have a lot of fun think about going here. Tempest is great. I wanted a workout that pushes myself both mentally and physically. I like that they rotate coaches on classes. They all give a different perspective on moves and approaches. Brought my son and 3 friends here a few Friday nights ago for the open gym which is advertised as 6pm-9pm with a $20 admission. So I was a little put off and frustrated when they were told to start clearing off the equipment and help clean up the mats at about 8:30. I'm not quite sure why it's my child's job to pick up equipment and not the employees as we are the PAYING customer? They were made to get off certain equipment at this time as well. I understand there are things that need to be done for a business to close at the end of night but that's not the customers responsibility and shouldn't cut into time I paid for. The kids otherwise had a great time and enjoyed themselves but I hope going forward Management addresses this with their employees. read more

Things are a little intimidating at first because a lot of the students look like they were birthed with the knowledge of parkour infused in them. Being a complete newbie at pretty much anything physically challenging, I felt pretty overwhelmed and embarrassed at first, but my instructor was so encouraging and laid back that I eventually forgot about my reservations and just had a lot of fun! My son found Tempest on You Tube. He's a huge fan of American Ninja Warrior and in particular a Fan of Young Flip Rodriguez. Imagine his happiness when Flip was one of the first people he saw when we entered the building. Everyone was really nice and the facilities were clean and in perfect condition. I was really impressed with the manners of the patrons. The place was hoppin' but everyone made sure to take their turn and allow others theirs. Kid's of all ages treated eachother with respect. Great experience with quality staff and awesome patrons. It's an 1 1/2 drive each way and we will be going back often. read more

Hmmmm? Ultimate location in the US? Apex Movement Boulder's new location might soon be challenging you. I'll give Tempest this- based on their awesome promo video, I had to visit from Denver, Colorado. A friend and I are in town for another event, but we braved the wicked slow 405 traffic and made it to Tempest's Saturday Open Gym from 1-3pm. It's $10 and quite a deal with all their obstacles, foam pit, trampoline and more. When driving here on Nordhoff, look for the little Tempest sign. Otherwise, you'll drive right past the complex's entrance like us. Some things I'd like to compliment Tempest on: 1. Their soft cushy floor (I had a bad heel bruise and felt really comfortable here). 2. The foam pit with high wall, bar, and trampoline approach. 3. Various climb up points. 4. Striding areas. 5. Variable length laches. 6. Many non-movable obstacles. Things I'd like to see: 1. A larger entrance sign for out of towners unfamiliar with the area. 2. A repaired salmon ladder 3. Maybe a couple larger movable obstacles. (My friend wanted to work on Kash vaults, but we wanted something higher. Maybe I wasn't creative enough with what's there also). Go here! This is an AMAZING gym! Definitely great for birthday parties, private events of the athletic kind, and kids or adults. We had a birthday/gym session, with a private instructor and basically had the run of the place. Fabulous foam pit. Our instructor - Flip! -also competed on American Ninja Warrior. Working out is boring and sometimes painful. At Tempest you get to play around on a bunch of unique and mostly soft surfaces. Before you know it you'll be simutaineously dripping with sweat and smiling ear to ear. Go here if you're old, young, skinny, or fat. Whatever you are you wont be the only one. The begginer classes and the open gym sessions are truly for everyone. Do what you feel like and watch other people do things you might want to work up to. Only give them your ID if you are willing to risk ID theft My kids were there for a field trip. I filled out their on-line waiver before-hand. The directors of the field trip said that I had to give a copy of my driver's license in order to get my kids into the park. Understand that with a drivers license, or the information from one, a thief can open up a bank account and take loans out in your name. Apparently the foolish management at Tempest does not understand this, or they wouldn't be copying licenses. In order to combat the possibility of ID theft, I removed my birthdate and license number. So, because I did this, they excluded my kids from the event, and made them sit it out. Neither did they offer a refund for this. If I have already filled out the waiver, why on earth did they need my ID? Further than that, I will make a point of complaining to the trip organizers about this business and the potential for identity theft. They are willing to exclude kids because their parent does not want to be stolen from? Find another gym or activity. read more

Super cool place to relive your childhood, or enjoy your young adulthood! HUGE warehouse with several obstacle courses that have a whole lot of stories behind them, so make sure to ask for a tour. :) Instructors are very helpful, down to earth, and encourage you to push the limits safely. It can be a little scary since you're completely left to your own ability, no safety harnesses here. But if you have a need for adrenaline, this is the place for you. We were doing front flips off the tall "building" into the foam pit in my first class.... A little hard to find the first time, but worth the trip to Northridge. read more

Saying this place is not good for everyone because some people can't do it is like saying you didn't like scuba diving because you have a fear of both the ocean and open spaces...if you know what free running is, then this place is the place for you!
