Positives: The tea and coffee are really good. Brand new interior. Not so positives: Super long line. I watched several people walk in then walk out. The barista asked for my order and I continued to wait in line, when I reached the cashier she asked for my order then made it. Really confusing. Why didn't the barista make it? Also, there is no menu at the cashier. There is one at the beginning of the line but that was at least 20 minutes ago. I know these things might seem trivial, but you don't see these lines at Miskha's and there is a clear menu at the cashier. And the fly's are abundant. Overall: Great potential and good product. Fantastic Espresso! House espresso is very bright, but sweet and satisfying. Then they shared a second espresso, Costa Rican, heavy and smooth, dense, natural process with definite coffee cherry and a slight fermentation on the nose. Bonkers good. Being a Sac Native, I love Temple Coffee and their spot in Davis is hands down one of my favorite locations. The baristas here are so friendly, make an effort to know you and ready to help with any choices for drinks or beans. They will also grind your beans for you too if you don't have a grinder. I find myself coming here at least once a week. Though their seating is limited and there aren't really outlets provided inside, it's a great place to catch up with others or get some work done (as long as you come charged up). Make sure to try their pastries, a good amount of them are vegan and/or gluten-free as well! read more

I love the modern decor, friendly service, and the fact that they are open at 6am 365 days a year including Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, New Years, etc. I had one of their single origin coffees in a short latte, and it's definitely one of the best lattes I've had in a long time. I love going to temple. I can't say anything bad about the brand. However, on my last visit to the new location I was very disappointed. When I asked the barrista to describe the coffee option, he was way off. The brewed coffee was medium body and earthy. He described it as light and citrusy. Not a big deal except that my wife is picky about her coffee and so I chose another. The one I chose was described as medium and earthy. The one served was floral and dark. This kid was way off and should simply tell me he is not that familiar. Offer me a taste maybe? I too did not like her coffee. I guess I will just ask for a taste from now on. The coffee is amazing, definitely unmatched. It's crazy pricey for a cup of coffee though. They also charge a whole $1 extra for soy milk. My small soy latte ended up being like $6 which is crazy! The ambience is also amazing because of the decor, but the chairs don't have backs, so it gets really uncomfortable to study for a while. I love the coffee but the price is steep! Temple coffee quality is typically top notch. I found the pour over ethiopian to be weak even for a medium roast. Not sure the automatic pour over technique is up to Temple standards. Nice layout but a bit cramped. Service was on the slow side but very cordial and professional. They brought the drink out. Presentation of the pour over was fun, used a glass carafe/pot for overflow from the in house coffee cup. Will return to confirm this review. read more

Temple Coffee Roasters offers everything that upscale coffee drinkers expect: single origin pour overs, the full spectrum of handcrafted espresso-based drinks and unnecessarily complicated and obscure craft brewing method(s) (e.g. The Kyoto cold brew). The staff was very friendly and attentive enough, and the ambience is chemistry lab-meets repurposed industrial perfection. The main downside is their pricing as compared to the quality (I'll get to that in a moment). As a native of NYC, I rarely get sticker shock, but Temple blew me out of the water with their sky-high prices (e.g. a s.o. Pour Over ran me $5.25 before tip and wasn't hand poured). Their pour over is machine automated (a contradiction of terms) and, as such, misses the mark by far. The temperature was much hotter than I like it and any of the specified flavor notes did not come through. The almond milk latte I would describe as "decent" and was also hotter than desired. Tried the Kyoto and it was aight. Their batch brew was great and for under $3 is the play IMO. The average wait time from queuing up to checking out was about 12 minutes. Temple is the best I've had in Davis, but the drinks don't justify the price tag. The wait would be too long for me if it were my morning standby I think. Ambience seems perfect for a coffee date and she'll be impressed by how much you're willing to drop on caffeine. read more

The environment is so great! The baristas are super friendly and answer any question you have about their coffee and teas. It's also decorated so well! You can watch them brew the coffee as you wait in line. Seating is bar and stool with plants on it for decoration. Not ideal for long periods of studying, but it's still a nice place to get work done if you want to feel relaxed. I got the cold brew which I thought was really great. I've also tried the Bliss tea before which is one of my favorites there. Overall, a great place with great workers. Davis is definitely moving on up with opening so many new places! read more

I spent my Saturday morning at the Davis Farmer's Market, and needed a place to sit and read before they opened. Temple Coffee was open early, and the reviews gave me confidence. I was impressed with the very polished, "Norwegian chic" minimalist style--lots of blonde wood cabinetry/paneling, driftwood barstools in front of the communal style tables--one large banquet style table down the middle and the wall/window had a long table all down the side. So, no private table, but I didn't feel crowded. Very clean, very tidy and peaceful; the long glass terrariums and other potted plants gave a lovely, organic punch to what would have been kind of sterile. The coffee was pretty; I got a cappuccino, and the barista composed a work of art in the milk. I think it was reasonably priced--the lady in front of me actually treated, which was a very pleasant surprise. The coffee was quite strong and very tasty. But I'm picky about mugs, and these coffee cups left me disappointed--the handle was too small to fit anything but a finger in, so I couldn't really nestle into my cup of coffee. It also seemed to let the coffee get cold fast, which made me sad as I planned to linger a bit. And I got the 'monkey bread' in a muffin wrap; it was large and looked delicious, but when I tasted it it was bland, dry and overbaked. The texture was croissant-ish, but not buttery; and almost pop-over-ish, but not moist; the flavor was a plain, quite un-sweet bread and with none of the caramel or nuts I expect from monkey bread. Probably won't be back; not worth the drive, and there are a ton of options in teh actual farmers market that are better priced and more flavorful. But for a place to enjoy the ambience and sit and read, I'd recommend. I'm giving this a 3 star/"a-OK" rating mostly because of the ambience and because the coffee was solid; just rating the baked goods, it's only a 2 star/meh. read more

Gibraltar Review The Pour: Quite good, roast is good. I tried their single origin and it's tasty. Service: Baristas are all skilled at pulling the shot and the latte art (natch) - quite friendly too. I had several from Stefan and he knows what he's doing. Ambiance: Super clean and modern, bucking the normal hipster coffee shop trend of rustic and/or industrial. Small gripe. The super long table that is parallel to the counter - looks really great, but totally screws up the customer traffic flow. Especially since the cashier is sort of in the middle and there are entrances on either end of the counter/table. See where I'm going with this? Conclusion: Finally there is a great option in Davis. I'm waiting for more competition to make it out to Davis but Temple is a fantastic start. Yum! I grew up in Davis and always come back to town wishing there was a comfortable place to just hang out... and Temple has finally filled that void! The vibe and menu are a little froo froo, so if you're not into fancy teas and coffees then I'd avoid. But I really loved the Enlightenment (green tea with honey and soy milk, yum!) and my friend tried the Bliss which was very holiday festive and tasty too. Prices were just under $5 for each. The venue itself is really nice and a lot of people come here with laptops and work to do. Only complaint is that the chairs are pretty uncomfortable.. Would be nice if they had an area with sofas or more comfortable chairs, but overall a great place to stop in with a friend for a cozy cup. read more

The scene is crisp, clean and inviting. Everything about the shop beckons the senses: eyes, ears and nose. I was courteously greeted and directed to try the coconut bliss tea latte. The staff was gracious about substituting almond milk for soy (which was also delicious) and trimming the amount of sweetness in the beverage to suit my taste. The drink was beautifully presented in a tea pot to stay warm so I could pour, sip and repeat through visit. It was perfect. Bathrooms and tables were clean and well done. As a person who loves to study at various cafes and coffee shops, this place, by far, is one of my favorite places to study at in Davis. The ambience is very welcoming - it's very cute and hip with lots of community tables, bright lights, and windows. Temple also has a good variety of coffee and teas. So far, my favorite drinks from here include the chai latte with almond milk, the iced Mexican mocha, and the macchiato. The drinks are a little bit on the pricier side, and I wish they had larger sizes, but I think for the quality of coffee, it's worth checking out. The staff is very knowledgable and friendly! Temple focuses on perfectly roasted and brewed coffee. It's had a great reputation in the Sacramento area for many years, and has been well received in Davis. In addition to coffee drinks, Temple has some really tasty teas and pastries. I've noticed some back and forth in other reviews about whether Temple's prices are too high. I'm not sure if it's necessarily more expensive than other cafes around. The coffee is much better than anything else in the area. I do think their sizes are more limited than other places, meaning they don't have a giant cup you can sip from all morning. The coffee and tea are both delicious and there is quite a variety. There is unlimited internet and a lot of places to sit and study, enough room to sit with a laptop but not much more. However, it is very pricey, and they keep it at an ice box temperature so it can get a little bit too cold if you stay too long. What makes up for these things is 1. The excellent coffee and tea. and 2. The amazing staff. I ordered coffee one time and then realized (embarrassingly) I forgot my wallet. They gave me my coffee for free and said, "get us next time"! Temple is my go-to study place in downtown, but that certainly doesn't mean you can't go there to chat, relax or have fun with friends. Although it's always very cold inside and you should never forget to bring a jacket, the atmosphere is very warm and friendly. The pastry options are limited as they are baked daily, and they usually run out in the evening. There's also no food option. The coffee and tea, however, are excellent! Their nitro brew was kind of disappointing though, because it tasted like coffee and sparkling water, and no me gusta diluted coffee. It's the best coffee shop in Davis to study/read/do work. It is clean and bright with decent internet connection and their minimalist interior design feels relaxing. They have good coffee as well. This is definitely going to be one of the best coffee places in Davis. First two days the line has been out the door with a 20 minute wait. The coffee is really good and there is more seating and space than other cafes in Davis. I think quality of the coffee will be a little better once they aren't so busy. My one complaint is the configuration of the register. They take your order before you get to the register and have to stand and wait while your coffee is made. It seems like there's a lot of added line time with the person at the register waiting around until your drinks are made. I would much prefer if I could pay and sit down to wait for my coffee (I thought the coffee greats had pretty much settled this issue). I'm sure the line is going to die down soon but they will still have you standing in line longer than you need to. read more

Okay, the coffee and desserts are PHENOMENAL. Seriously some quality coffee. My favorites are the Mexican Mocha and the Chai Tea. Seriously some of the best mocha and chai tea I've tried, ever. The employees are amazing and super friendly, and one of the workers there always says hi to me and my girlfriend! My one minor gripe is that this place doesn't have many power outlets at all, which can be a nuisance sometimes. But this is called "Temple Coffee Roasters" and not "Temple Power Outlets" so I'm not complaining too much about that. They do their job, and they do it well. Also besides that, it's a generally good place to study/get work done. The atmosphere's great. There's plenty of seating, but be careful! Went to purchase whole beans for my SemiAutomatic Breville Oracle expresso machine. I had not purchased coffee beans from this place before and was disappointed with the descriptions of the coffee beans. I could not tell if the beans were deep roasted, medium, or lightly roasted. Temple coffee is a must stop shop if you like coffee. Over the years they have expanded to multiple shops in and around Sacramento but yet their quality is still at the top of the game in the area.
