After having been to spas all over the city for facials I am happy to commend madison spa (Irina) to be a great revelation. Here's what my first facial was like: The place is tucked in between streets on Madison Avenue. It's got nice treatment rooms. Irina (she did my facial) definitely knows what goes into keeping skin relaxed and happy. I went in with slightly blotchy skin and acne scars. She analysed my skin before making suggestions as to what kind of a facial was best suited for me. She was honest about my skin and how I could treat it better. Also not once during the two hour facial, did she push any product endorsement on me (big plus). Irina then proceeded to treat my skin for two hours (including treatment time for face packs). My facial included a mini micro derm, an oxygen facial and extractions. She was very thorough without pinching my skin. The best part about this facial was that the next day my skin was actually not red or more blotchy than usual. I received my fair share of compliments over the next few days as my skin looked rested and happy. I would love to go back there and see how this feels after 3-4 facials. Definitely recommend.

It felt kinda shady and I didn't feel very welcome. My girlfriend and I were showed our room and told that we would take turns learning to massage each other for an hour with a masseuse. We were excited to learn and ready for a new experience but, turns out, we didn't learn anything. Our instructor was very kind and surprisingly funny but the level of difficulty of the lesson was extremely low. He showed us the simplest hand movements and he even agreed that we could go on YouTube for everything these days. Plus, our masseuse kinda smelt bad. I truly don't mean to be rude but you would expect to be relaxed in a spa. Following our lesson, we were instructed to meet the woman at the counter. She immediately told us that we owed cash for tips/taxes. I told her that I only had $5 in cash but that I had a debit card. She responded, "I told you on the phone to bring enough cash". I quickly told her that she was mistaken and that I was informed only to call a day in advance to confirm my appointment. I don't know all the various styles of massage, but the descriptions on the website steered me to a Thai-Yoga combo massage. Booking was easy, but right after they called and asked if I could move up a half hour earlier to accommodate their schedule. Wasn't a problem for me so I agreed. The spa is in a little high-rise building sandwiched between taller ones. I walked right past it, but then I saw the address numbers and walked back, counting down, and there it was. Inside was a little hallway with a security guard in front of the elevator (made me think of the Men In Black movie!). He was friendly, asked if I had an appointment, and then made me sign an In/Out list with my name and where I was going. Not a problem, I understand the need for security. When I got up to the spa, they were already expecting me. The staff were professional and courteous. I left my shoes at the door and was shown into a room right away. The room was warm with quiet music playing. It was clean and smelled nice. The therapist did a wonderful job with my massage. Ask for Mona - she was fantastic! It was over all too soon - I got an hour, but I should have scheduled a longer one. I can't speak to how their prices compare with other spas, but I was very satisfied with what I paid for the massage I got. They hit me up for the gratuity on my way out the door. I rode the elevator back down, signed out of the guard's log book, and I was back out on the street. A very positive experience overall. I told the staff that I would send a tip once I got home because I wanted time to decide how much I wanted to give. The first woman at the spa continued pressuring me to send the tip immediately and would not accept that I planned to do it after leaving. She showed me a QR code for a Zelle payment and instructed me to send the tip through it. I attempted to leave the spa after this continued pressure, but I was then followed outside by a second woman. I again explained that I would send the tip when I got home, but she would not accept that. She insisted that I send the tip immediately and asked me to show her proof that I had done so. I sent a $30 tip through Zelle using the QR code provided by the first woman. After I showed the second woman proof of the $30 payment, she insisted that I had not sent it and attempted to use my phone herself to send an additional $30 payment. I took my phone back before she could complete the additional payment. The entire interaction made me feel extremely pressured and uncomfortable. I felt like I was not free to leave without providing a tip, and the Zelle payment was not given voluntarily. I did not know whose Zelle account I was sending money to; I was only provided a QR code and instructed to make the payment. Strangest and worst experience I've ever had getting a massage.
