I talked to the server and she mentioned the "Chowk special curry" is one of their popular dishes and I decided to try something different. I ordered it with chicken. Their spice scale is mild, medium and spicy. I can usually eat spicy as long as it doesn't get too crazy but decided to go with medium. This dish is spicy, I was still sweating bullets but that's ok. It was delicious. You can order it with most normal protein's I ordered it with chicken and it was great. I also ordered their "bullet naan", naan bread with some kind of chili from my understanding. It was good, not too spicy and a bit different. They have many different types of naan bread. Service was great and I really liked the food. I thought it was also quite affordable. The Chicken Biryani had great flavor and spice, the Paneer Tikka Masala was rich and creamy, and the Mushroom Masala was outstanding. The Garlic Naan was fresh and perfectly cooked, and the Aloo Tiki Chaat was a great starter with excellent texture and flavor. There was a lot of chicken but it was dry and chewy and I believe there was some dark chicken which I am not used to in chicken tikka masala. I am not positive about this because I did not eat enough to be absolutely certain. The basmati rice was not memorable. I could not taste much garlic or butter in the naan. It was thick and chewy instead of thin and crisp on the edges. I really wanted to love this close and local Indian restaurant! I wanted to be able to support this new business endeavor and put it on my list of regular restaurants. But I ate only a few bites before I was disappointed. This was carry out and sometimes that can make a difference. But we don't live far and the food was wrapped and packed appropriately. I expected a standard restaurant; I got a lounge that felt like I should have traded my sneakers for a velvet blazer. It was dim, moody, and featured tabletop lamps that made me feel like I was about to negotiate a high-stakes merger--or at least a very serious order of Garlic Naan. I was greeted by Rohi, a man so well-dressed he made the rest of the room look under-rendered. He introduced himself as the acting manager and dropped a line so bold I almost choked on my own anticipation: "This is the best Indian restaurant in all of Texas." Sir, those are "fightin' words" in a state that takes its spices as seriously as its brisket. My expectations didn't just rise; they hit the ceiling.
