How have I not written a review for this place?? My husband and I have gone here almost every other week for their lunch buffet for the past 3 years. It's a super good deal! They include a variety of delicious indian foods to choose from like a tender chicken biryani to tasty tikka masala. Naan bread and chai is included for no extra charge. The service is always polite and the restaurant is always very clean. They usually have the same people working there as well so you can count on consistency. Honestly, if more people knew about this place I feel like they would be busier but it's a bit hidden from the main road along the side road. I normally come in for their Friday buffet (which is always delicious) and I've also been in for their new lunch platter (again, excellent) but today came in taking advantage of their new loyalty club's offer of complimentary Pav Bhaji. The flavors were amazing. The bread was perfectly, lightly toasted. The owner told me they will be adding this dish to their everyday menu, and I 100% recommend you coming in to try it. I ordered Tandoori Chicken and Chicken Biryani from this restaurant. After placing my order, I even called to request mild spice, and the person on the phone assured me she would inform the chef. The Tandoori Chicken was okay, but the Biryani was absolutely terrible -- honestly, the worst I've ever had. It wasn't even real biryani; it was just a container full of chicken and thick sauce with barely any rice. You could literally count the grains of rice in it! On top of that, it was extremely spicy despite my clear request for mild. I only took one bite of the chicken and ended up with a stomach ache. Very disappointed with the quality and preparation. Very disappointing and unsafe experience. We visited Ista Restaurant as a large group of around 20 people and chose their buffet option. Unfortunately, several of us developed skin rashes shortly after the meal, and this was the only common factor among us all. We reached out to the restaurant to inform them -- not to create a scene, but to make them aware in case something was off with the food. To our shock, the owner showed zero concern. Instead of investigating or even apologizing for the inconvenience, she said we can "do whatever we want" and made no effort to take responsibility or look into the matter. This kind of attitude toward customer health and safety is unacceptable, especially for a restaurant serving food to the public. I hope this review serves as a warning to others. We expected accountability and empathy, but received neither. read more

My favorite Indian restaurant locally. The buffet is on point and priced low. They change the dishes often, I always get to try something new! Popular dishes included.) Their Mango Lassi is the best I've ever tasted. Service is good. I've only ordered the buffet, so I can't speak for non traditional buffer service. Naan, rice, tea...I always leave full and happy. August 2022 Visited this restaurant on a Saturday afternoon for lunch with friends. There is ample parking, the seating area was nice and spacious, the Buffett section was very well laid out and the price was reasonable given the selection of food. I often try to search for places that offer lunch Buffett to get a glimpse of the quality of the food offered and this place didn't disappoint, apart from a few things that I'll touch upon later. The food options (both for vegetarian and meat eaters) was good and they offer complementary naan bread (not Garlic Naan). As far as drinks were concerned, there was lemonade and masala chai. I tried almost everything that was on display, from chili chicken (which was a must try), tandoori chicken (which was colder than a beer kept in a refrigerator, unfortunately), andhra chicken curry coupled with puri (YES, you read this right, they had puri!!!) and Naan along with methi paneer curry and veg jalfrezi. There were also fried pakoras and deserts (rice pudding and carrot halwa). Let's talk about the pricing, we paid $15/ person excluding taxes and tip. For the price, the Buffett was a steal. My only regret was that the food was cold, maybe we went a little too early for lunch that they didn't have the time to heat everything. Also, I was expecting some kind of shrikhand or amraas to pair with the puri (all the desi crowd would definitely agree with me on this :D), maybe I'm overreaching here with that puri shrikhand, but the pros far out way the cons here. Excellent Indian food with a large variety of both vegetarian and meat options. All of the traditional dishes as well as some fusion items from the Middle East and Asia. There is a steady take out business so don't let the lack of people sitting to eat fool you. Definitely would recommend if you in the mood for Indian food. read more

I went back and forth on how many stars I would do because I thought the food was 5 stars, so delicious but I was disappointed that for my entree being $17.50 it came with rice OR naan. I came here on a Sunday afternoon for lunch after church with my family and I was personally not very pleased with the service that we received. I would definitely recommend that if you have a big party of seven or more to call ahead of time as they did not seem prepared at all! I did enjoy the buffet style however and the food was delicious! It was a little small inside and seemed a little messy overall with a lot of chaos! Not sure if I would go back but if you're craving some good Indian food and go with a small group, it should be a good time! I must say I've been coming here for years and it keeps getting better and better. The Cot Samosa is AMAZING to the point I'll choose that over the regular samosas anytime. Only draw back it is not BYOB anymore but the vino bottle prices are reasonable. They redecorated and it's improved the ambiance. Well done. The service was awesome. read more

Feasting on goat curry!!! Yada yada. I know we Americans don't eat a lot of goat but I do. And you should to. Rich, succulent meat simnered in spices and lots of Ghee! They only serve it on weekends Buffett. Curry shrimp, paneer and about 18 different dishes to choose from. The naan comes out cooked to Order and fluffy inside with crispy crust. About a third of dishes are veggie. As u know I eat meat but the veggie dishes have so much spice I just crave more and more. Real cloth napkins, waster glass filled constantly. I'm not an Indian food fan normally but I took a friend for lunch as was pleasantly surprised. We shared the chili paneer for appetizer which I thought was most excellent if not a bit too spicy for me, I still ate it because it was too good. I got the lunch buffet so I could try different things and she got the tadka Dahl. My favorite things on the buffet were the veggie dishes, the chickpea flour fried veggies, the zucchini masala and the spinach dish with chickpeas. This Sunday's buffet was delicious. Expectations can run high for Indian buffets as everyone wants to see their favorites. At Ista, we felt like there was plenty of variety, if it did lean towards the meat eating side. The buffet is served via chafing dishes, my least favorite serving method with uneven heating of food and the constant opening and closing of lids all while holding your plate. It makes for slow going. The only dish to disappoint on this day was the Chicken Tikka Masala. The Chicken I spooned out of the buffet dish was not tender. But the Curry Goat, Tandoori Chicken, Fish and Chicken Biryani were all very good. All of the vegetable dishes were tasty, especially the palak paneer and a charred eggplant dish. I enjoyed an appetizer that took me by surprise - a very hot slim pepper in pastry, rolled and fried. Sliced into bite-sized portions, I was heating up before I even knew what I was eating! Very friendly people. A bare bones kind of place with comfortable booths. High ceilings make for a little more noise than I would like. We were using a Groupon and so the meal was a bargain and the drive to Flower Mound worth it. read more

Stay away from the shrimp vindaloo for obvious reasons! ** I was asked a few questions about my visit, so here are the answers: it was the Flower Mound location AND yes, there were more than two "shrimp" in the order. However, when the potatoes are much larger than the bay shrimp, and you're charging almost $15 for the dish, there is an issue in my book! Lunch buffet, 11am-3pm daily! (Yes, even on weekends). There are good vegetarian and meat options. Buffet price includes your drink and dessert options. I especially liked the fact that there's hot chai on the buffet. My hubby and I especially loved the chili shrimp, which were seasoned perfectly and lightly fried with onions and bell peppers. The pepper chicken is also a standout. My hubby also ate almost 2 baskets of naan :-) I delighted in the rice pudding, that has raisins and pistachios in it, and the spicy hot chai tea. We didn't care for the goat curry. It was tender, but did not have enough spice. The spinach paneer had very little paneer. Living Social had a coupon for this location - $15 for two. While I have never eaten in the restaurant, I have ordered takeout countless times over the years. The food is consistently good. Their portion sizes do not seem to have changed (gotten smaller unlike other places in the area). Samosas are great, the rice is flavorful and the chicken tikka masala is awesome. read more

I would give a zero if they had one. This was the worst Indian buffet I have had in a long time. They were out of everything and had a poor selection. Don't expect salad,soup,or any meat other than chicken. The little chicken they had like tandoori, masala, and biriyani was empty. The Raita( Indian yogurt dip) was white colored water rather disgusting. Paying 15.99 for this was a waste of money. They must have new owners. read more

Unfortunately tonight I have to give Ista a 1 star rating. I've been eating there for years and never had issues. Tonight I found 2 thick black curly hairs in my garlic naan and a hair in my samosa. I also ordered the aloo paratha which either didn't get made correctly because there was absolutely no stuffing or they gave me butter naan by mistake. Either way, not what I paid for. I hadn't been here in several years. Moving back to the area I thought I'd give it a try. We ordered online and went to pick it up. Things were fairly decent the first time. The naan wasn't included so that sucked. Some of the things we got were over salted. But we went back to try again. Again we ordered online. We arrived to find the bags of food sitting on tables outside in the cold, with plastic sheeting covering the doors and windows of the restaurant. No big deal, renovations happen. We got home to find half of our order missing. The sauces were watery and lacking in flavor. So not only was our food cold, watery, and flavorless, we paid $100 and got ripped off by at least $30 worth of food. Including the garlic naan we paid extra for and the desserts. Small confusion (to quote a previous reply from an owner)... why is it cool to rip people off? Hard working families who treat themselves once in a while to overpriced Indian food. We cook and eat a lot of Indian food. It's nice to have someone else do the cooking sometimes. Calls went unanswered and there is no other way to contact the restaurant. And, judging by what other reviews have said, things won't be made right. Bummer. We won't be going back. This wasn't a huge tragedy in the grand scheme of things, of course. But if they consistently leave items out and refuse to communicate... our money is better spent elsewhere. I wish them well. Small businesses don't always thrive. But if so little effort is put into making things right, you can understand why. read more

We came here once and tried it and liked it enough that we came back a second time. Ordering food over the phone is a bit of a hassle as either the phone isn't good or the person is hard of hearing as my wife's side of the conversation needs repeating several times. Once the order is in, the food is ready in the time they've given us. It's hot, spicy and ready to go. The Wife almost always gets the Chicken Tikka Masala. She was able to order it "Kid Mild" which is less mild than just regular mild. I would recommend it for those of you who are spice-intolerant. I usually get Dahl Makhani and I got it regular mild and it was good, but was hotter than I would have expected and the second time got it "Kid Mild". It was more enjoyable. For those of you who run out of rice or naan before you run out of curry, go make yourself some ramen noodles. Drain the soup and then pour the curry over the noodles. It's delicious.
