My stylist is great and this place is super nice and comfortable, but I was disappointed at the end of my appointment last Saturday when I went to check out. The lady, who I presume to be the owner, said I would be charged a 3 percent processing fee for using a credit card. She pointed to post-it note signage on the desk that was dated for January 1st, but I hadn't been there since last October, so there's no way I could have known. I politely vocalized my disappointment about this twice, said I wish I had been made aware since I would have brought cash, and she went on to gently say it was only 5 dollars. It seems unfair to not notify customers about this policy before the appointment- they send a reminder text so it wouldn't be difficult. I am not sure if I will be returning on principle. read more

I found this salon when I lived in La Grange and I've been going there for 3 years. It's about 45 minutes away from where I live right now but I wouldn't think about going anywhere else. I have really sensitive skin and my stylist, Judith, has been wonderful in finding and using products that are perfect for me. It's a bit expensive because I'm a student, but I have really long hair -and again sensitivities- and it's worth going to a salon where they take care of everything and I never have to wonder how my hair will look walking out -it's always awesome! I'm definitely not a soccer mom -or mom at all- but I've never thought the other clients are bad. Usually I talk to everyone, but all of the stylists stay up-to-date on current events (the owner and manager demand it) and there is always an interesting conversation to be had. They're also up-to-date on styles and can make anyone look good. Beyond that, they're just good people. After my mother had major reconstructive spinal surgery last year, she couldn't sit for long periods of time and couldn't handle a lot of activities. My stylist opened the salon for just us so that my mother could have her hair done and feel a little better during a rough time. How many salons are that personal? It was (well past) time for my cut and color again, and I received some gift certificates to this salon from another client with the high recommendation that I go to see Ashley. I have to say this salon has aged well and improved over the years I've been going. I made a weekday morning appointment only two days in advance (this salon does get busy on the weekends). When I arrived I was greeted warmly by the stylists and Ashley was available to take me right away. She really talked to me about what I was looking for in a style and color, and what my usual hair styling and maintenance practices were. From there she took charge and fixed my overgrown and graying locks. There was even a nice freebie of either a hand massage or a scalp massage. I went with the hand massage and it was so relaxing. This is an Aveda salon, and I love the products they use. Ashley told me each step of the way what she was using, how much to use and WHY she was using it, but there was NO PRESSURE to buy anything additional. Throughout the appointment Ashley made sure to ask if I was comfortable and offered a beverage if I needed one. The other stylists in the salon were very friendly and everyone got along with each other well. It seemed like a nice big stylist family and that extended to the other customers in the chairs. My appointment wasn't double-booked or rushed at all. FWIW, Ashley let me know that in the very near future the salon will be offering new waxing services. They have a new vendor and had training last week, so if you were wary about waxing here in the past, I think it's worth giving them another shot with the new materials. Also, the salon is converting from their paper book to computer scheduling. I received a reminder text message a couple hours before my appointment, and I can't wait to see what other features their new system rolls out. Overall, this is a great neighborhood salon. It's been around for quite a few years now, and the owner and stylists seem to have found their groove. I decided to give this salon a try for a full leg waxing since it's in my neighborhood. I'm tired of going all the way downtown to find an esthetician (usually through groupon and other discount website). I had an eyebrow, lip, and chin wax done last year during earth day, where the prices were discounted as they were doing donations that day, and i was really happy. I just never went back because I usually travel north for work and got my services done closer to my job. Well, I needed a quick leg waxing and Kim was able to fit me in rather quickly, I was hesitant with all the reviews on here, but now that i've experienced her services for myself, and the salon in general, I have become a convert to 46 South Salon. The waxing was painless, I didn't get any redness afterwards, the wax used was for sensitive skin. Kim was very thorough, a perfectionist, with the waxing. Oh, and she is very talkative and personable. All of the women in the salon are really nice. There is a positive and relaxing vibe when you walk in the salon/spa. I already scheduled another leg waxing appointment with Kim. The prices for the full leg wax were very fair, cheaper than most places I've been to. read more

I went to 46 South Salon and Spa for a prom special - hair, nails, and make-up, and they did a fantastic job. The lady put a shimmery layer on my french manicure and pedicure to match my dress, and she did a beautiful and complex roman-esque half-updo to match my dress. It was seriously the best hairstyle I've ever had. Also, their makeup artist is experienced. She worked very quickly and made things so easy for me (I usually have a hard time when others do my eye makeup). I have gotten so many compliments from their work! My only hesitation in giving them five stars was how long it took them. I went in at 11:00 and came out at 5:30. Granted, my hair is very long and the style was complicated, but I didn't think it would take that long, especially because I didn't get trimmed there. Went in for balayage and a haircut. Sharon convinced me to get it straightened as well. On the website it states balayage is $110+ and women haircut/style is $55+. My total was $230!!!! I was in too much shock to even ask how that amount came to be. I still tipped because I did enjoy this salon. I want to say I liked Ten West Salon, but it had one good thing going for it, and that was Rose. Now that she is gone, I will go too. No other management was ever polite or even willing to acknowledge me- so this place lost the only staff member that made it worth while. Check out the Facebook page and literally every positive picture or review relates to Rose. Why they decided to get rid of their only asset baffles me. But bad businesses typically get what's coming to them, so fingers crossed. read more

I've been so Salon 46 previously, both times I went to get my hair styled for weddings. I had two great experiences with Amy, and so when my sister was asking about where we should go to get our hair styled for her wedding, I thought Salon 46 was a great choice. Unless you get Amy as your stylist, I would not go here. I had a terrible experience, as did three other bridesmaids, and would not recommend Salon 46 to anyone. After giving my stylist suggestions as to how to style my hair--as soon as I sat down she said she had no idea what to do with my hair, it was just too fine to work with--she ended up ratting my hair to the point of oblivion and then just put a lot of hairspray on it. It was so bad, in fact, that I left and went to Robert Anthony's Salon (also located on La Grange Rd. but south of 55th Street) to have their stylists fix it. The stylist I had did not seem to care, and rushed through doing anything remotely nice. You do not tell a client that you have no idea what to do with their hair, you don't then ignore the suggestions they give you, and you don't then rush to finish. All in all, a terrible experience for me and I would suggest people go anywhere else but here. The other bridesmaids had the same experience, and had to have their redone, too. On the other hand, the stylists at Robert Anthony's are knowledgeable, creative, and nice. This place has awful management and their workers are okay with lying about prices. I called yesterday and asked how much a no chip manicure and a regular pedicure would be. The girl I was talkinh to put me In hold and I could clearly hear her asking how much everything was. So she gets back to me and says that they always have deals going on and that a no chip manicure is 45 and a regular pedicure is 40 but they have a 25% off special. I repeated what she said and she said yes.I wanted to make an appointment for the next day so I said I'd call back. I called today and asked if the 25% was still going on for today. I asked for the prices for the same services again just to be sure. A different girl put me on hold to ask how much everything would be. This time the price for the no chip was 35 and the pedicure was the same. I asked her are you sure because I called yesterday and they told me it was 45.I told her okay and with the 25% discount it should be about 60. The girl stated she was bad at math and told me to hold on so she could check. She told me that it would be about 40. I asked her twice are you sure for a no chip manicure and sa regular pedicure? She stated yes so I made an appointment. My nail technician was fantastic, but the job itself not so much. I originally wanted a white color but as she was putting it on it you could just tell it was old. They didn't have back ups of the color i wanted either so I had to pick a different color. I picked the color and it looked fine at first. Now that I look at it my nails all I can see are a bunch of little bubbles and around the cuticle it looks awful. I attribute that to the old product.So the price of how much everything cost comes up and it turns out that my no chip is 55. The girl was nice and I wasn't upset with her after all it was the girls who have been working there for awhile and still don't know the prices for simple and frequent services fault. I asked to speak to the owner and she never came to talk to me. What a great owner right? So I end up paying 75 and have yet to have a good no chip manicure. I have heard that the receptionist there lie to people who call just so they can get business. I'll tell you one thing though because both girls who answered the phone knew nothing and I got stuck with and old product that shouldn't be used, now everyone I know I will tell to never go there ever. That's just bad service all the way around. The only good thing was that my nail technician was awesome. They should have given me at least the 25%. I did give my nail technician a good tip for being nice and understanding about everything which is more then I can say about the owner. Awful service, awful products and just unprofessional. I will never go there again. And seeing the other reviews I'm assuming neither will most people. read more

My daughter and I both get our hair cut and styled by Lana, and we haven't been disappointed yet. If you have a bit of time, sit back and enjoy the coffee or water while your hair gets precisely dyed or highlighted in a pattern that is carefully thought out and successfully executed. Centrally located in downtown LaGrange, with a convenient Starbucks next door. The staff is helpful, friendly and the owner is extremely courteous and sociable. We recommend it highly. read more

I was looking for businesses to support a charity that I was fund raising for, and without hesitation, 46 South donated a gift certificate. Six months later, I was looking for a new stylist and decided to give them a call, due to their generosity, and the how friendly everyone in the salon seemed to be, when I dropped in out of the blue. Judith cut and colored my hair and I have been a customer every since! I have recommended two daughters, one son, my best friend and her daughter to the salon and they are as thrilled with the outcome of their hair as I have been (just like I told them they would be!) I booked an appointment at this salon since I would be in the area. I was a little concerned about whether or not the staff would be snobs as I am not a La Grange soccer mom. Boy, was I pleasantly SURPRISED! I arrived a bit early and waited about 10 minutes. While I waited, I was offered water, coffee, tea, and coffee cake. This was a very warm welcome. First and last time at this salon, If i can give no star I will. Nice people, was greeted with a hello and a smile,I thought oh what a nice place. As soon as KIM the Esthetician started waxing she was having problems with the wax she explain that she had only been there two weeks, but has been doing it for years. I dont care if you been there a day if you know what your doing the wax should not be the problem. I told her it was my first time wink wink so she can be more careful but that didnt work she problably thought I didnt know how things were done but let me tell you ouch I have had this done alot of times before and none of my other experience have hurt one ounce as much. Then she started plucking away and im thinking okay she is getting all the stray hairs and is almost done wrong...AND let me tell you I wasen't rushing her I wasn't rude I keeped my cool, so that she can finish what she had started. After she stated she was complete she put oil to remove the excess wax and was picking away clumps again ouch. Then she wet the same towel she was using to cover me and place it on to cool me down. Everyother place I have gone gave me a mirror to check thing out,she didn't but I was so done with this place I didn't even bother with them. The worse part was that when I got home and checked things out I was so irritated and had patches all over the place. Not worth the money, pain and time for a CRAPY JOB. read more

Tried Ten West a couple weeks ago for the first time. It cost me $250, after a $20 coupon, for the stylist to give me orange highlights. I was there 4 hours while she tried adding toner to correct it. It didn't work. Her next client was waiting so she rushed the cut not bothering to freshen up my layers like I asked. Then did a quick blow dry with no style which is supposed to be included in the cut and style price of $75. She scheduled me for the next week to fix. I contacted the manager and she scheduled me with someone else. The next girl did her best but in order to make it appear less orange she had to go way lighter than I normally do. Needless to say, I won't be going back. Pretty disappointed that management didn't offer any type of refund seeing as they gave me orange highlights that they then added more blonde to in order to tone down. I get that they needed to pay the second girl for her time but not my problem. I spent a total of 6 hours and $250 over a week to get highlights that I am not happy with and no haircut. Would not recommend going here. Try somewhere else. read more

This place is horrid! DO NOT SEE LANA! She completely botched me! I went in for a trim and all over color. By the end, my hair was uneven and she gave and charged me for highlights. It was so bad I had to go back the next day where the owner looked at me and said "I don't know what she was thinking, but at least you have a cute face." She tried to even it out, but it was a lost cause. It was so bad, she had to put extensions in. She had to use so many that she ran out and told me to come in on THURSDAY, 4 DAYS LATER, when she'd have more. I had to cancel due to an emergency. I called that salon for 5 months and never got a call back. Finally, she called back and I told her what had happened and how I've been calling and haven't gotten a call back. Her excuse was, when the same person calls a lot the girls throw the message out because they think it's a sales call. When I told her I was completely frustrated and even 5 months later my hair was still a mess, she asked me to come in. I told her I just wanted my money back. She said she's have her husband call me. Well, he is a cocky rude ass who threatened me! he told me I was a liar and just wanted money from him. He told me I was stupid because I should have stopped the payment on my credit card and he shouldn't have to refund me for my stupidity. He told me I should choose my words carefully when I speak to him. Finally he beat me down so emotionally I started to cry. I told him I wasn't an idiot, I was in the medical field and don't appreciate spending my hard earned money on bad services. I don't need it back, but I shouldn't have to pay for those "services". I told him about the people that I spoke with, how one had an accent and described the way the others sounded. At that point he said, you must be sincere. Come in and let my wife cut your hair again. He actually said "we loose more money fixing mistakes then we do on hair cuts." WHAT DOES THAT TELL YOU??? ARE YOU KIDDING ME!! That place will never touch my hair again and I urge all people thinking about going there to RUN! read more
