Since we were staying at the Inn, we figured we would try this resturant for a dinner and a breakfast during the stay. Dinner was phenomenal. 5 star service and lovely plating made the experience wonderful while looking at the view from the resturant. I tried their sparkling wine and a Huckleberry Lemondrop and was NOT disappointed. My boyfriend had a Caveman Swizzle and a Quincy Mule. We had an app of vegetables lightly fried and served with a sauce that was flavorful. I had the chicken and he had the gnocchi. The bill was steep, but the food and experience made it so worth it!! Breakfast was a different story. Our waitress was NOT "in the game" so to speak. She was chatting a lot with another waiter and many things were missed- coffee cups went empty, I ran out of sweetener due to a poorly stocked sweetener cup, and she just wasnt around. It was disappointing, especially after having an amazing dining experience 2 nights prior at the same resturant. We also went in one evening for cocktails only. They have a bar you can get cocktails at. Unfortunately the bar was full, and we were told we could not sit inside if we were drinking only (weird). We ordered drinks and went to sit outside but it was almost 90 degrees outside. I had to go inside and BEG with the bartender and waitress to let us sit inside to enjoy our drinks. We were happily surprised by our meals at Tendrils. All of the food was "better than it needed to be." You're pretty trapped when staying at Sagecliffe Resort, so the food definitely could have been subpar and they'd survive. However, we really enjoyed everything we ate at Tendrils over our three night stay. One drawback is that it is definitely overpriced - I'm not sure I remember the last time I payed $28 for a burger. read more

Now I want to come stay at their resort with the pool overlooking the gorge. The lunch menu is small but what we had was affordable and good. I've been to this restaurant twice now. The first time was in 2019 for their Sunday Brunch buffet. Had I reviewed the restaurant then I would have given it 5 stars. Best brunch buffet I've ever had; however we recently revisited and had a horrible experience. It was Sunday about 3pm and we swung into buy a bottle of wine. Since the restaurant was empty we decided to stop in for a drink. The server was rude. Offered us drinks in the hotel lobby, we declined & asked to be seated in the restaurant. The waiter put us in far back corner, never asked if we would like a second drink or any appetizers or bread. Since the restaurant was completely empty my boyfriend asked why we were seated in the far back when tabbing out. The servers response was "we have reservations for the other tables starting in 30-40minutes." We were there for about 40 minutes so he withheld the view tables for reservations an hour & half away from the time we sat down. Service was rude, inattentive a gave us an overall feeling we weren't welcome. Providing a view table w/ reservation time restrictions would have been appreciated. Drinks were decent but at $16 each they could have been dolled up & stronger. read more

Came here for the first time when I came to this area for a girls weekend away. The View when sitting outside alone was worth it! The service was wonderful, our waiter had two large groups but still made sure that we were taken care of as a two-top table. The food itself was unbelievable. The steak I got was so tender and cooked perfectly I could eat that everyday. My friend got the pasta dish and it was fantastic! We ordered dessert and the creme brulee also did not disappoint either. If you are ever in this area going to a concert or just to a wedding, make sure you give yourself a day to stop by and eat dinner or lunch here! Although I have not been during the winter so I cannot attest to how the scenery is then, the spring and summer time is beautiful! We enjoyed our dinner at Tendrils sitting out on the patio and watching the sunset over the Columbia River. There were no specials and the kitchen was slow, but the server was attentive and did his best in assuring our experience was top-notch. The food was fresh and decent flavor profile. The crab cakes were great. The dishes could have used salt to enhance/elevate the flavors. Or at the very least high-quality salt could have been provided at the table. The plates are very expensive, and the servings are very small. The dishes were underwhelming for the cost, and the size was disappointing. Unfortunately, there are not many options to dine on premise or without a 30-min drive from the resort. Not much competition. We would reluctantly go back considering the location/convenience of it. I feel like there is potential for greatness and work to be done on pricing OR quality/quantity of meals. I have had higher quality meals for a significant % less. The entire place looked amazing! This restaurant was is so hidden here in central Washington. The drive was worth it because of the view and the ambiance. Because of the price, my husband and I would only plan to eat here maybe once or twice a year for our anniversary or, in today's case, for Valentines Day. Thank you Allison for serving us up a delicious five course meal for our ten year anniversary! I've eaten at Tendrils only twice (so far). Both times were very, very good. Lunch was nothing exciting --a chicken sandwich--but it was cooked to such perfect tenderness, with so much flavor, and with such fresh accompanying greens, that it seemed like a gourmet meal. Our dinner WAS gourmet, with five courses, all with Cave B pairings. Most everything was delicious, from the salad paired with nicely ripe pears and cheese to the chocolate orange torte. The pairings were well-chosen and added a great boost to the food, as it should. I discovered that I like their blanc de blanc, so now I have a local bubbles option! I did find the first course a little wanting: tapenade with crackers and salmon mousse that had very little salmon didn't do much for me. But the rest was quite good. You can't beat the view, and the staff are so good: friendly and accommodating. We'll be happy to head back for other nice occasions. read more

When we first called for a reservation, we had to put a $40 to hold our table, which we thought was fine thinking that they were busy and we needed to hold our table. We got there, and we were the first and only people in the whole restaurant for about 10 minutes. We had a great server (Daisy) who was very nice and helped us through our dinner. The drinks and food were very expensive, we ordered crab cakes for $35 a Ribeye steak ($82), and my wife had the chicken for $34. Not that we don't mind paying if we get value for our food. The crab cakes were ok, not the best but good. My wife's chicken was bland and had no flavor. My steak was fatty and barely warm but cold enough to send it back. Our server worked out the food issues with my steak. They did give us 2 drinks for free because of the steak. The restaurant window overlooking the gorge was filthy and dust all over the windowsill. Pretty solid restaurant overall. The food is usually cooked perfectly, not well, but literally the chicken is cooked to perfection on the inside with a light crisp on the outside, the next night I tried the ny strip medium well and again, cooked to perfection. I was pleasantly surprised! The overall quality of the food, presentation and flavor were all top notch, and certainly 5 star compared to anything else in the immediate area. My first night the service was slow, come to find the waiter lounging around with the other staff and chatting away while I'm waiting for service. I'd agree with the previous review that the restaurant seems to be a bit over-hyped because of the winery it is located in. People around the winery seemed to love the restaurant but of course... they worked for the winery. We did lunch which was a bit on the cheaper side. I had a gourmet burger and my girlfriend had the crab cakes. My burger was way too dry and the fries that came with it I would classify as average. My girlfriend had the crab cakes which were pretty good. The glass of wine we had was really good but that was probably because we had just completed the wine tasting and we already had figured out what we had liked. The winery does have a fresh garden that is used for the restaurant, but I wouldn't say it makes a huge difference in the taste of the food. Overall, I would recommend this place as a good lunch place with spectacular views. Seems to be a good place to eat based on the scarcity of other options but doesn't compare to the quality of restaurants in a major city. read more

This is probably the worst resort restaurant you can ever go to. This review however is not about food but about the service. First of all, they start calling you non-stop a week an advance to reserve a table for breakfast lunch and dinner! When we came, tables were mostly always empty. Breakfast ends at 11, and if you want any food after check out time (which is also 11) you will need to wait 45 minutes even though there are empty tables. The restaurant host was horrible at explaining why we have to wait so long and it looked like he obviously didnt want to work. Hotel and restaurant staff overall are un-trained and are not ready to work for a resort that they claim to be. Not worth the price you pay IMHO. read more

The food is fantastic, but be aware the price tag matches. I am not a big alcohol drinker... I am very particular, but the huckleberry lemon drop is amazing and memorable enough that it stood out even I think 3 years later. It lived up to my memory of it. The bread pudding was and still is my favorite thing on the menu. The gnocchi was wonderful and very filling my split it and one of the steaks(the tenderloin). The steak was cooked correctly, ordered medium rare and that is exactly what I got even though they had to account for delivery to the cabin because covid. Sides were perfect. Very impressed with how well it worked out given the distance from kitchen to table was obviously greatly increased. Not sure how other dishes fair under these circumstances, but enjoyed ours. read more

I've been a returning guest to Cave B for at least 10 years and have eaten at Tendrils Restaurant numerous times each visit. Some visits the food and service have lived up to its reputation of being good. But, most recently, each visit has been less successful until a few weeks ago, it was not good and not worth the money. Clearly the restaurant is understaffed and overwhelmed, which is a management issue. Dinner was mediocre and took an hour to get to my table. The gnocchi was gluey and lacked flavor. The salad uninspired. The best food that I had was a veggie burger for lunch, but it took around 40 minutes from the time I ordered it. I'm guessing that servers are dependent on tips to make a living wage. Diners all around me were grouchy. I tipped well not wanting to take it out on the staff, and took the the time to call management to file my complaint. I was told there was no manager on staff currently. There was no way to speak directly to anyone, so I decided to write this review. In general, I try to communicate with a business first and follow up with a review if the problem persists. I prefer to write positive reviews to help businesses flourish. The site is beautiful, but sitting out in the sun for 20 minutes waiting for water is just a wait too long. read more

Also the first night there was a party of about 20 ppl all whom were not wearing masks walking around with drinks in the hotel lobby. We got all our food as takeout to eat in our room however still had to encounter mask free employees. So the restaurant was just taken over by new management in November after a dismal run of the previous owner of three years. They just hired a new chef a couple weeks ago, he's young and daring and is working the kinks out. The menu has changed and he's working on bringing it back to a 4 or five star. They now have music on Saturday night which is awesome and brought back the Sunday brunch with Prime Rib!! The staff has a new revived upbeat attitude and smiles all around the house!! I've experienced multiple servers there now and I give them all a huge thumbs up! I really feel like the new management is willing and wanting to bring a new vision to the restaurant and Inn (they even changed the name to rebrand). I give 5 stars to this change because I think they are going to keep improving the atmosphere as well as the food experience. The pool bar is even up and running! Oh and as for the putting green carpet in the middle of the dining room, it's gone! Replaced with white and black tile. I even saw a peek of a coffee window they are building (hint you won't find it when it's closed you'll just see a reflection of yourself). read more

Given that the reviews for Tendrils are all over the star map, I wasn't sure what to expect. I knew the food would be pricey, but would it be worth it in the fullest sense, incorporating the view, the experience, the bliss that is a night at Cave B? Yes. We started with a perfectly sized smoked salmon salad: generous tender pieces of smoked salmon on and in a simple bed of arugula, accompanied with some thick olive pieces. The dressing was fresh and briny, emphasizing the tang of the sea without verging even infinitesimally salty. We followed with duck breast (for me) and steak (for him). The duck was thick and juicy, again a simple preparation but plated with savory wilted arugula and squee-inducing tiny fingerling rounds no bigger than my thumbnail, roasted to an almost-crispness outside but tender within despite their diminutive size. We finished with a rosemary bread pudding studded with white chocolate chips and laced with a delicate caramel sauce. My only regret is that we didn't order two of these, opting instead to also try the (forgettable) crème brûlée. That bread pudding is one of the two best desserts I've eaten in the last few years (the other being a pumpkin pie at La Bête that brought tears to my eyes with its fleeting deliciousness), and would be a strong candidate for inclusion in my last meal. I shared, but I also finished my bites quickly. To move the spoon faster back to the plate.... In short, dinner was truly a lovely experience. It's very different from what I expect around Seattle in terms of atmosphere (you know you're in a hotel - think Barking Frog or something in that vein), but even though the meal was pricey I felt fully able to luxuriate in almost every bite, and the night felt well worth it. I always love a menu that changes regularly depending on the season, although I'd sad that such a method means I'll have to spend years trying to perfect that dessert at home! I imagine a meal out on the patio would be glorious in the summer; it was warm enough in the afternoon that a few people were sipping beer and wine outside (and ordering off the lighter pre-dinner menu). There's a small bar here; no cocktail menu, but I'm sure all the standards are available. For our stay, there was a complimentary continental breakfast Monday morning, with most of the usual suspects (cantaloupe, honeydew, a tasty granola) along with some lovely flaky chocolate chip scones. I never eat scones, but I did have two of these; they were on the small side, after all! On the weekends they have brunch, and may have more of a breakfast menu during the busier season (the only hot breakfast item available on our visit was a large slice of the quiche of the day for $8). Since Tendrils is really the only place to go, your dining options are severely limited...but in a way that works, and I didn't leave feeling as if I'd paid only for the view. That bread pudding may have been worth the price of admission all on its own, and as my review of the Inn itself will attest, I can't wait to go back. read more

This is their restaurant at the Cave B estate grounds. Here they have the winery, where you can get tastings for $6, with Cave B wine glasses -- a great deal for 7 tastes of wine, and the glasses are nice. A bit beyond the tasting room, toward the Gorge is their Tendrils restaurant. This is also where the suites are located with spectacular views of the river. They cater food for the suites out of this restaurant, too. We drove up to the gravel parking in front of the restaurant, but when we entered, they demanded our keys so they can Valet the car. It seemed silly, as there were two other cars parked out front, and there were a couple of extra spaces. But the staff insisted that Valet is required, almost practically grabbing the keys out of my friend's hands. Now, I have nothing against Valet's, but for personal reasons, I don't like being forced to Valet. I often have confidential paperwork in my car that I don't want a 20-year-old stranger, or anyone else, snooping through. Indeed, I am obligated to keep that information confidential. It's much more of a hassle to have to do a clean-up of my car to lock away all my confidential paperwork, illicit drug collection, firearms, stowed away cash, and stray body parts, just for the "convenience" of Valet parking. It's ESPECIALLY nonsensical when we're out in the middle of nowhere on a private estate with lots of land around. I mean, it's not personal, Valet people, it's just business, but please let me park my own car in peace, without forcing me to allow you to put your grubby hands all over it! Ok, vent over. Anyway, we just missed Tendrils Sunday brunch, but ordered off of their available tasting menu. I was a bit dissappointed that they didn't have more than just appetizers, but we were there on off hours, at 3pm on a Sunday. Their clever wine package built into the menu range from $8-$12 for 3 x 2oz. servings of wine, price depending on the type and quality of their many vareities. The $12 tastes of higher quality reds were each unique in flavor, from very dense and earthy, to light and smooth, to a bit sweet. Each was great in it's own right, and it was interesting to see my friend struggle with tasting very different flavors that appear to come from the same red color in three glasses. His confused look as he took tastes, then looked at the the seemingly same wine color, was priceless. We ordered the $10 cheese plate, and the $15 apple smoked ribs. These baby backs were some of the most truly tender ribs I've ever eaten, with flavorful meat, and perfected permeated smoke. The only downside was the super sweet sauce on it, but at least it was used sparingly. Don't get me wrong, it was quality, obviously homemade sauce, but just too sweet for my tastes in ribs. I think others would love it. Certainly, the meat tasted fresh and very flavorful. The ribs are well worth a try. The potato side, was seasoned nicely, but nothing to write home about. The cheese plate had three chunks of cheese served with a few crisps. The cheeses were all very strong, maybe a bit too strong for all cheeses to be that way, and there weren't enough crisps for the cheese. There WAS a nice fruit accompaniment, sliced apple along with a bunch of super-sweet champagne grapes, which make this plate special. Both fruits tasted like they're picked right off the tree, or vine as the case may be, at the peak of ripeness. All of the food seemed very fresh on these plates, and it's locally grown. This restaurant and winery are a bit out of the way, but if you're near the Gorge, drop by and check it out for yourself. It's worth the special trip for a couple hours of wine tasting, eating, and enjoying the view on a lazy summer day. PROS: Good, locally grown food, with small plates in slower hours. A beautiful view of the Gorge from the outside balcony. Great wine tasting offering -- three tastes for the price of one glass. Great ribs! For this, I give the restaurant between 4 and 5 stars. CONS: I wish they had a bit more to choose from on the menu, in case you want a heavier meal in the mid-afternoon. And what's with REQUIRING VALET PARKING way out here? Let me park my own car, please. It's way more inconvenient for me to have to pack up my stash when I just want to park, worry free, and have a nice relaxing Sunday afternoon meal. After reading recent bad reviews we were Re-thinking our dinner and breakfast reservations during our stay. I am sooo glad we took a chance. We had dinner here on the patio. First the view and ambience are really one of a kind. Service and food were amazing. We had the roasted beet salad, vegetarian misto appetizer and the scallops with risotto as our meal. Everything was phenomenal. Breakfast has also tasty a nice. It was served buffet style. It wasn't fancy (we have been to some pretty amazing brunch locations) but everything was presented nicely and was very tasty. Absolutely would recommend !!! read more

My fiancee and I spent 3 days at the Cave B Inn. There wasn't much around here so we ate in their restaurant, Tendrils, quite a bit, while we stayed there. The restaurant itself is housed in the main building of the inn. The restaurant is furnished in wood and metal, which gave it a warm feeling. The best part of the restaurant is the magnificent view that you get of the Columbia River Gorge. The sheer walls and the slow moving river make for a wonderful backdrop while getting a bite to eat. The staff was very friendly and were well aware of the food that they were serving. They gave us a complementary ahi tuna cheviche with lemon. It was quite tasty. I also had a beef tenrderloin with a cauliflauer puree. The beef was well cooked. It was moist, tender, and flavorful. The puree did add something to the beef, but I wasn't use to it. On another night I had a roasted duck with fingerling potatos and onions. The duck was simply seasoned with some salt and pepper. It was welled cooked. Again it was moist and tender. However it was a little cold since I got it as room service. The duck was moist and tender. The potatoes were very good and I really enjoyed eating them. For lunch I had a brioche sandwich and carrot/kumquat soup. They were good, but it wasn't something that stood out to me. For dessert I had a vanilla bean creme brulee with whip cream. It was really good! Overall my meals at the Tendrils Restaurant were good, but not something that blew my taste buds away. It was a little expensive, but being the only restaurant in that area it was to be expected. I have to say I was expecting a better experience with the flavors of the food and overall service. We came in to celebrate a birthday. There were 8 of us. When we finally ordered (we were slow on that not the staff) we had the rosemary chicken, steak, gnocci, chowder and chicken strips. It took 7 min to get all our plates out. Our server Gerardo was kind and tried to hurry bringing the food, but only has two hands while 2 other servers stood talking. I was surprised that they didn't step in to makes sure everyone got their food quickly, so we all waited while things were played and brought out two at a time. Our Steak was great as was the chowder. The chicken was tender and tasty but the pasta and broccoli were lacking in flavor profile with the chicken. I must say I expected more. I was skeptical dinning here after seeing such negative reviews. Turns out they were all true. It's hard to critique a place that is really the only restaurant around the area. If you really want to honest, you can compare this place to the restaurants in Willows Lodge, Suncadia, etc. and you will find that this place certainly lacks so much. The dining area is small but intimate, with great views overlooking the canyon. After waiting for a while, we ordered our appetizers and drinks. We had a fresh mozarella salad with prosciutto on a bed of arugula that was tasty, and a beet salad that was very plain wth no seasoning. I didn't realize it until the end of the night, but the waitress poured us the wrong wine. For our main course we had the pan seared halibut with risotto, asparagus, and a green salad. The risotto was soft and creamy, making it a great combination with the halibut. But the green salad definitely made the dish feel awkward and messy. We also had the seared scallops which were on a bed of capers (at least 2 cups worth!) and grapefruit. The dish was certainly plated nicely but felt very unbalanced and an awful experiment. The flavor combination between the scallops, capers and grapefruit was pretty awful. The service was also terrible, given that half the place was empty. It took us 2 hours to get through dinner. For the price you pay, the food and experience do not match it. Upon leaving, the manager asked how we liked our dinner and we told them how bad of an experience we had. They apologized but didn't feel too moved and offered us cookies to take to our room. As a lot of reviewers have previously stated, Tendrils' best feature is its location. Gorgeous views! However, everything else was a bit blah. We started with manhattans and appetizers - trout cakes & a salad. All were ok. For entrees we got the sirloin and the chicken (both were $35+), very overpriced for what was served. Not very memorable. We also shared a bottle of Cave B's cab. For dessert we got bread pudding - the best thing we ate all night. We had the halibut and the scallops. Both were amazing. The views make this a magical place. Our service was attentive. Oh and we had the cherry creme brûlée for dessert. It was "different" but delicious!! Plenty of gluten free options on the menu too. read more

This review is just for the brunch items. Everything was in heated dishes and hadn't been replenished and didn't resemble anything near fresh. When you're paying $29 each for their brunch you expect it to be somewhat fresh. It was like food that was under a heat lamp for too long, not very good. The two stars is for the location, great outlook. read more

The only place to eat when you're at Cave B Inn. I stayed a couple nights at Cave B. The restaurant had good service. The butternut squash soup we started with was delicious. The kale and beet salad were just okay. I had scallops on squash, which was a strange combo. They were okay. My partner had the pork loin with cornbread and he wasn't crazy about it. Some people we met there did the Thanksgiving dinner the day before and loved it. They told us to get the butternut squash soup. The restaurant has a cozy feel and I'm sure in the summer the views are beautiful. We got lunch take out the next day so we could stay in and the Kobe burger with blue cheese was okay. We also got pasta and didn't like the mix of mint with it. I wish there were more options than this one place but I'm glad it's pretty good with nice servers. read more
