I picked up sushi from here for lunch and everything was very good. I got the spicy tuna roll (which actually had some spice to it), salmon avocado roll and yellowtail scallion roll. Each roll was very fresh and I would definitely return. The inside of the restaurant was also very nice. read more

My family and I came here for dinner on Christmas Eve. We knew it would be busy and we made a reservation in advance. We all split the tempura as an appetizer, which was delicious. My dad and I shared the Platter B, which came with a choice of soup or salad for each person, 12 pieces of sashimi, 6 pieces of sushi, a spicy tuna roll, a California roll, and an eel avocado roll. A very generous amount for two people! I dare say you could split this three ways, depending on how hungry everyone is and if you're ordering other food. The quality of the fish was good. This is our 2nd time at this restaurant. This time around, a late brunch. Downtown Katonah is quite popular on beautiful Sunday mornings and we were going to a concert at the Caramoor later in the afternoon. So if you don't have a reservation at the brunch places, you are out of luck. I really wanted eggs this day but lunch was the only option late in the game. I did remember that this restaurant had a full bar so, why not. It was a cold day so a hot Sake sounded like a good idea. This place is usually standing room only at night but just after 12:30pm it was almost empty. I didn't realize I was "hangry" so I ordered an entree because I knew it would come with soup. My husband was in his element with sushi rolls and a side of pan-fried gyoza. We also requested some adult beverages. I ordered a cocktail...pomegranate Prosecco. It was a beautiful ruby color when it arrived, forgetting about the sake.... When our entrees arrived (pretty quickly, I may add), my eyes grew big as the giant tempura plate came. Everything was sizzling hot! 5 pieces of giant shrimp with some surprises; asparagus & butternut squash, in addition to the yummy usuals. I was so glad that my husband was there to help me finish. Fried food isn't appetizing as a to-go item. I was full and then some. Service was moderately quick, but as the restaurant began filling up, I was glad that we were among the "early" customers. I noticed that service was slowing down a bit. However, it was Sunday afternoon. I imagine the rest of the crew will be in for the dinner crowd. I have loved Tengda for quite some time. This is the only place I go for Sushi in Westchester. It is that fresh. The only Sushi that is better is Hawaii. I have never been to Japan. So in Hawaii they caught tuna an hour ago and now you have your poke bowl or poke nachos. That's us how great it is. Tengda is up there with Hawaii. Now, I only eat salmon and tuna. And any specialty rolls with salmon and tuna. But these rolls with avocado or the spicy crunchy rolls are as good as you will ever get. They don't over do it on the rice. That's great. It's just enough to make the roll. You will love the kitchen entrees too for anyone wanting that over sushi. General tso is not heavy breading. All white meat. Very high quality. Delicious sauce. The salad dressing is divine. Excellent pineapple rice. If you order 5 rolls or more they put it in the Boat. It's beautiful. I wish they would return to their pre COVID Sunday brunch, but perhaps it's too costly and they don't need to do that. Their lunch special is very good, indeed. This is very fresh, delicious sushi. I love it here and will drive the extra to have sushi this beautifully prepared. If you can't get to Hawaii, go to Tengda. When you do go to Hawaii and manage to return, keep going to Tengda because that is the best tuna and salmon you will find in this area. read more

Came here on a Saturday dinner without reservations and was pleasantly accommodated, I guess we got lucky because it was a busy night. Service was prompt, not really friendly, the waitress threw the chopsticks on the table when my BF asked for one. Kinda caught off guard with that kind of gesture. Hence the 4 stars. Ambiance was pretty loud and it's a small place. Not really a restaurant for a romantic dinner, lol. But the food was good. Nothing epic, just satisfying. My favorite was the truffle white tuna and beef negimaki. The squid was also good. Tengda curry was surprisingly a big portion, tasty curry although not spicy at all which was a little disappointing but the seafood was cooked perfectly. Third visit and on a Friday night. We learned to call ahead to make a reservation and good thing we did! Our 6:45pm table was ready on time. It was packed and many take out orders flew out the door throughout our meal. GLUTEN FREE REVIEW Tengda is very good about gluten free dining and has many good options. All of their teriyaki dishes are gluten free and amazing. Their miso soup, thai red snapper, and beef negomaki are also all gf and all phenomenal. This is a great date night spot, always full on a Saturday night, with great ambience and large portions for a reasonable price. Four stars only because they sometimes mess up my takeout order. I went at the behest of a friend from the area on a relatively quiet Sunday evening and it was disappointing to say the least. I write though with a caveat, neither I nor the person I was with had any sushi or sashimi which may be where the restaurant's focus lies. The big alarm to me though was 'fusion' because generally this indicates a restaurant the can do neither of the cuisine offerings well. Here there are other influences aside from what one might find in a sushi house... in my case I had the 'Homemade' Chicken Spring Roll which was neither home made nor a Spring Roll. Instead it was a deep fried frozen egg roll cut on a bias to fancy it up. It was lacking in any real taste and the sauce that accompanied it came from a bottle. My main course was Beef Negimaki which lacked any freshness as well and also was swimming in store bought sauce. The accompanying salad was dry and tasted as if none of the veggies had been washed. The ginger dressing was gritty and flat. My dinner companion ordered the Triple Delight which was far from delightful as everything was slopped together on the plate and drenched in sauce. I can see in this neck of the woods any Asian fare is hard to come by but at the prices being charged and the quality of the food I can't say I'd come back to give the sushi a go. If anything I'd hit Shoprite on a Wednesday when they have their sushi special and I know everything is fresh and at a steal of a price. read more

My first time going there, I ordered the Spicy Mango Shrimp lunch special, my lunch partner had Spicy Mango Chicken, with choice of three different soups and two styles of rice, $16/$15 respectively. The dishes arrived in a timely way, with very fresh ingredients, well seasoned, loaded with tender shrimp and chicken, and complemented with fresh honey mango. Terrific! Soups and rice were very good. The ambience was excellent, dining area and restrooms very clean. Our Server did not seem terribly interested in helping us order, or even tending to our table. While everything went fine, it was pretty obvious that she had little interest in what she was supposed to be doing. But we got through it just fine with no problems or real complaints. We will be returning to this place. Had it not been for the disposition of the Server, it would have been a five star review. However, we wholeheartedly recommend this establishment. The food : well my beer was warm . How do you get that wrong ? The edamame we ordered was inedible , tasted like it has been microwaved in Saran Wrap . How do you get that wrong ? The shrimp shumai was gelatinous ( overcooked ) I know how you get that wrong . I did not have the sushi which may have changed my review , instead I got the shrimp tempura Udon noodle soup . I have had this in many restaurants and it usually tastes the same . I found the vegetables under cooked ( almost crunchy) but flavor was fine . My wife had the salmon teriyaki and no complaints . We also had rolls: which were great, but honestly I kinda feel these standardized 'amercan' rolls all taste the same. I assumed (my mistake) that in this day and age with allergies abound, restaurants would clearly label items. I assumed that something listed as vegetarian would not be made with chicken, egg, or fish. I was wrong. What's worse, the guy on the phone was very rude and dismissive when going through any possible non-egg, fish, chicken options and hurriedly stated 'I'll just make it all with soy sauce, it won't taste good.' No thank you. Poor service. Unclear marked menu items. I would give 0 stars if I could. Please do better! Please be clear about what you are serving your customers.
