Tengda's Platter B
Alana K.

My family and I came here for dinner on Christmas Eve. We knew it would be busy and we made a reservation in advance. We all split the tempura as an appetizer, which was delicious. My dad and I shared the Platter B, which came with a choice of soup or salad for each person, 12 pieces of sashimi, 6 pieces of sushi, a spicy tuna roll, a California roll, and an eel avocado roll. A very generous amount for two people! I dare say you could split this three ways, depending on how hungry everyone is and if you're ordering other food. The quality of the fish was good. Despite being so busy, the service was good. It's a classic sushi restaurant and the experience/food was nothing groundbreaking, but we all had a nice meal.

Went with family for a celebration first time actually sat down I always order take out but I have to say the service ambiance and food were great. Everyone was so polite and attentive. We had a good time and the food was delicious.

This is our 2nd time at this restaurant. This time around, a late brunch. Downtown Katonah is quite popular on beautiful Sunday mornings and we were going to a concert at the Caramoor later in the afternoon. So if you don't have a reservation at the brunch places, you are out of luck. I really wanted eggs this day but lunch was the only option late in the game. I did remember that this restaurant had a full bar so, why not. It was a cold day so a hot Sake sounded like a good idea. This place is usually standing room only at night but just after 12:30pm it was almost empty. I didn't realize I was "hangry" so I ordered an entree because I knew it would come with soup. My husband was in his element with sushi rolls and a side of pan-fried gyoza. We also requested some adult beverages. I ordered a cocktail...pomegranate Prosecco. It was a beautiful ruby color when it arrived, forgetting about the sake.... When our entrees arrived (pretty quickly, I may add), my eyes grew big as the giant tempura plate came. Everything was sizzling hot! 5 pieces of giant shrimp with some surprises; asparagus & butternut squash, in addition to the yummy usuals. I was so glad that my husband was there to help me finish. Fried food isn't appetizing as a to-go item. I was full and then some. Service was moderately quick, but as the restaurant began filling up, I was glad that we were among the "early" customers. I noticed that service was slowing down a bit. However, it was Sunday afternoon. I imagine the rest of the crew will be in for the dinner crowd. Oh did I mention that their take-out service is also quite busy? It's an indication that they're quite popular in the neighborhood.

Tengda remains one of our favorite Asian restaurants in the area. Service is always excellent, and the food delicious. Highly recommend the miso black cod and Japanese oysters! Given the popularity, having a reservation is valuable.

Came here on a Saturday dinner without reservations and was pleasantly accommodated, I guess we got lucky because it was a busy night. Service was prompt, not really friendly, the waitress threw the chopsticks on the table when my BF asked for one. Kinda caught off guard with that kind of gesture. Hence the 4 stars. Ambiance was pretty loud and it's a small place. Not really a restaurant for a romantic dinner, lol. But the food was good. Nothing epic, just satisfying. My favorite was the truffle white tuna and beef negimaki. The squid was also good. Tengda curry was surprisingly a big portion, tasty curry although not spicy at all which was a little disappointing but the seafood was cooked perfectly. And the crispy duck was the star of the dinner. Pricey, but I'll come back here for that duck dish.

TBH I was hesitant to trying a new spot as all the other competition has been a disappointment…read more This is my FIRST real ramen other than .99 package To my surprise, this was light, delightful, and tasty. We felt as if we were guests inside the owners kitchen. She, wish I knew her name, came out often to the tables to personally and personably ask how our visit was. This is a rarity among most establishments these days. This is what bought up the rankings to five stars tonight. Needless to say, we'll be back;) TIP: cash payments are without taxes ;) TIP: small private street leveled entrance TIP: delivery available I believe thru a 3rd party. Saw many customers walk-in to pick up. Online yes

My partner and I were seated promptly, and were attended well by our waitress. We went on a very cold evening and both decided to order the spicy malaysian miso ramen along with the peking duck buns to warm ourselves up. Our food came about 15 minutes after ordering, starting with the Peking duck buns which were flavorful and had nice tender meat, though rather small for the price. Our ramen came shortly after-- we loved the coconutty, umami slightly spicy broth which was reminiscent of laksa (I suspect that they Americanized this dish and named it ramen so the Putnam populace would want to try it). The noodles were nicely cooked and not too soft, and the chashu meat went nicely with the dish. Though we enjoyed our meal, for $18 a bowl and charging NYC prices, you are not getting NYC quality or portions. The egg was hard boiled and overdone, and not jammy like a ramen egg should be. The broth was very enjoyable (I personally love laksa and coconut based broths) but could have been better emulsified. I also feel as though the bowl of ramen could have been a little larger given the price point. Another small qualm I have is though our waitress was lovely, she didn't seem to be very familiar with the menu, or with different types of asian food. I know this is a fusion restaurant in Mahopac, but to hear someone say that making the Tonkatsu spicy would basically just be the same as ordering the spicy malaysian miso ramen felt like either the staff isn't familiar with the basic differences between their dishes, or that what is being served is not accurate to the dish it is named after (as Tonkatsu is NOT miso based, nor does it have coconut milk). I would love to see in the future the chef sticking to their cultural cooking without fusion, as Mahopac desperately needs more authentic asian cooking. I really genuinely did have a nice dinner here, and would love to see how this restaurant evolves and succeeds in this space.

Though small inside, loved eating outdoors at the restaurant, also delivery carried well. Don't love that they ask for a tip on top of a moderately pricey counter service type place Soy Garlic Tenders The chicken was crunchy, crispy & juicy. Cooked to perfection. The sauce was good. For me, not quite on the level of bb.q Korean fried chicken. Still a good option for the area. Pork and shrimp wonton noodle soup Warmed my soul. It was perfect, the broth flavored and simple. The Ramen noodles added great texture. The dumplings were delicious and large bites. Pro tip, get a side of dumpling sauce to dip the dumplings in. The Chinese Broccoli in the dish had a delicious flavor all to itself. I'm not sure how they did it (because it was in the broth like everything else) but it was unique and special when eating the bok choi Pan Fried Pork Buns (Bao Buns) They were next level and a must get everytime. I'm not sure how else to describe them except delicious Original Chicken Sandwhich Good but not a must get for me. Good cook on the chicken and the bun seemed special but the flavors didn't really pack a punch. Juicy Soup Pork Dumplings Great for the area but wasn't blown away Rock Shrimp with Spicy Creamy Sauce Delicious flavors of sauce, breading and freshness of shrimp. Great cook on the breaded Shrimp

For drinks we had some Tsing Tao, light Chinese beer and the Plum Wine. Plum wine was sweet and smooth, just enough to make you forget its alcohol. My edamame did not come out at all before the other appetizers, drinks and the mains already arrived, so I had to cancel it so that they would not charge me. For the mains we had the Aburi Salmon Roll, mix of spicy roll combo, some California rolls, Shrimp Tempura Roll, Sashimi Deluxe, Grilled Shrimp Salad, and the Thai Yellow Coconut Curry. Rolls were all made well, tasty, I would order from here for my lunch time rolls. The Shrimp Tempura had a nice crunchy so you know it was just recently made and was not sitting. the sear on the Aburi Salmon was just right with a touch of a light mayo spicy sauce. Thai Coconut curry was "not too great" by my friends standards but still enjoyable. Sashimi deluxe, items were fresh, slightly chilled and came in a giant bowl in a bed of ice. It was the right temperature and would not have wanted my sashimi any other way. Too much food to have dessert, but will try to cut done on entrees to try dessert next time. Would recommend and was my first time there, would have like some edamame with my beer but will definitely stop by again.
