These guys are the real deal. We've eaten here dozens of times, and we've had them cater several parties - the food is always top notch and the service is friendly and easygoing. Yesterday we fed 35+ people at my house. I made a phone call, answered a few questions, and picked the food up myself. It was hot and expertly packaged and they helped me pack it into my car. This place has so much potential if the employees just gave a little more effort. We walked in on a Saturday night, and it seemed like the workers would care less if we were there or not. We walked up to the cashier who was on her phone. She was polite though, and took our order. When we sat down the food came out fairly quickly, and to our surprise that food was actually decent. It's not top quality BBQ, but it was pretty good. But while we were eating, there was extremely loud laughter coming from inside the kitchen. After we were done, as we were leaving the workers were huddled in the kitchen laughing. Didn't pay any mind to us, if we stayed or left. The girl rushed us and was not friendly at all, still asked for a tip though. I got the pulled chicken sandwich and two sides- Mac and beans. The Mac was the best part of the meal and I would come back for that, and that's about it. The beans were eh, more juice than actual beans itself. The chicken was just awful! I had collard greens which were fresh and delicious and barbecue beans which were also delicious. The cornbread was perfect! However, the star of the show is the barbecue. The barbecue ribs were rubbery and seemed reheated or stale. unfortunately, this is pretty common at Tennessee's. I didn't even put half of them in a doggy bag to take home. I just threw them away. I have been coming here for years, always liked it. I recently got two whole chickens one bbq one Caribbean. These birds were more like pigeons they were so small. Shrinkflation has made its way to Tennessee BBQ @ $15 each they should give you a decent sized bird as they have in the past. Flavor was there, cornbread side the best around. They have a few different sauces you can help your self to as well as ample amounts of paper towels since all the extra sauce can get messy. The ribs were delicious, and while they didn't collapse off the bone, they were full of meaty flavor. The chicken wings were a real surprise hit. They had a nice subtle smoky bbq flavor and were quite tender. Sides were a bit underwhelming though. I think generally, they lacked a bit of flavor, so I added a bit of salt and pepper to give them more zing. The food from this place is perplexing. It's almost right, and I don't get why it isn't. For example, the brisket we got was moist, but clearly hadn't been smoked and didn't have much seasoning to it. It was cut with the grain instead of against the grain. The pulled pork was better, but it didn't have any sort of dressing on it that I could tell. Once I added some apple cider vinegar to it, it was pretty good. We punched in an order on Uber eats, and the ticket attached to the bag didn't have the sauces we ordered, and while it did have the pecan pie listed, it wasn't packed in the order (which was fastidiously surrounded by cling wrap). Rather than the sweet potatoes we ordered, they were substituted for Mac and Cheese. It's kind of like they manually copied the order into their system. When we arrived we were met with a sign that all credit card orders were now met with a 3% surcharge. Not exactly a welcoming sight. The BBQ Baked beans were watery and not very tasty, the Mashed potatoes were definitely made in house (very lumpy) but I forgot to ask for gravy, they needed it. My wife's Memphis Ribs were also light on sauce but she said they were tender and good. She also enjoyed her sweet potato and collard greens. Both corn cobs were pretty small but I think that's due to it being out of season. The restaurant itself is pretty clean but it needs some serious TLC. Ordered 2 meat combo - sausage and brisket. First thought the bag was kind of light for 2 meats and 3 sides for the cost. Sausage was overcooked and cheap quality (and dry) and the brisket was dry but tender. I got the mac n cheese (like baked Kraft), baked beans, and cucumber salad. Can't really put my finger on the baked bean taste, almost vinegary. They didn't put any sauce in the bag, but I had some BBQ sauce in my hotel room from Wendy's that helped with the brisket. We usually love this place but today I am reach to give it two stars. Sliced Beef Brisket was just ok. I ordered and paid for two small cups of bbq sauce but they were missing so the brisket was dry. We got six bones of Baby Back Ribs and they were in no way bbribs. They were like a spare rib and wehad to gnaw at the bone to get meat and the little bites of meat were so tough. I make baby back ribs at home so I know what I got was not that. Mashed potato tasted odd. The star of the meal was the Killer Corn Bread and cucumber salad. Probably more like a 4 star, but when you compare to literally any other place on the north shore (I see you Skinny Hanks in Lynn and Pit stop BBQ in Wakefield), it deserves the extra star. Tennessee's is a chain restaurant and I've been coming to eat there since I was about 12 (maybe '98?) at the location in metro west Framingham or Natick...anyways they consistently make good food. 22 years later it tastes pretty much the same.
