Most importantly, the insides were cooked properly to the requested medium rare, slightly juicy, and very tender. Some pieces had a bit of dryness or chewiness, but overall, outstanding. The mix of char, sauce, and tenderness was worth the trip. Easily a top 3 for steak tips. -- Italian Sausage: Ordered à la carte, this was lengthy and crisp, served with a hot pepper for contrast. Call it good instead of great. -- Fries (included with the steak tips): This is a misnomer, as it's more of a serving of wedges from a very large potato (which is fine indeed). We rolled in late afternoon and they were getting ready to close up but graciously let us stay and eat which we appreciated given we had the kids in tow and we're heading to a hotel for an early flight. This. Place. What you see is what you get. A home town bar and grill with locals galore. Since moving to RI, I don't get here often anymore but boy do I wish I could. The queer o meter is 10. Come as you are and don't worry about it. The other reviews give some slam to the staff and basic-ness of here, but frankly it's what I love about it. The bread hasn't changed in the 40+ years I've been going here (has it been that long?! Geez) or the food. The only things changed have been the prices (whoa) and the building. The food is consistent and delicious. I always get steak tips with salad, extra dressing and a side of fries. Once in awhile I get the combo of steak tips, country ribs and salad. But not often. My review is solidly based on the tips they offer. I've tried other folks' pork tips and turkey tips. Both yummy. They have their own marinate for the steak tips and house salad dressing. I kind of want to swan dive into both. Soooo good. The tips are always tender. 2 things though, 1. Unless you order the steak tips well done they are 99.9% of the time med. and 2. They aren't bbq saucy kind. My wish list: They would give a little of the marinate sauce on the tips before serving. Yeah that's about it really. Warning: not cheap. 3 of us went for the exact same thing (3 dinner orders of steak tips, side salad) and 1 order of Fries to share. 2 sodas plus tip total was $150. $50pp is steep so it's no longer a place to go weekly to, which we used to back in the day, but it's def a place to go when you want some great steak tips in a relaxed atmosphere. Noticed today when I was posting a few pictures that I need to update my review. As always, the steak tips are the star! I've been frequent this location for more years than you would believe. Anyways, I went there today with my daughter and didn't even have to look at the menu. I knew exactly what I wanted. Our waitress/bartender Brianna came over without even looking at the menu. I ordered two orders of steak tips both with salads both salads on the side both steak tips medium rare and of course she asked you want the full order or the half order I said two full orders. Granted one is enough for two people, but I was there to have some beef. All set and done. I ordered the rolls extra rolls with reason. These rolls have not changed in years and years and years. They're always soft and perfect and then you have to put three cubes of butter in there. Here's a little hint from a local. Order an extra thing of salad dressing so you can pour it in the bowl and dip it like dipping, oil oh my God, this bread and butter dipped in the salad dressing is amazing. as for the steak tips by far, these are the best steak tips on the East Coast. In my opinion. This includes the size of the portion. It includes the marinade the way they actually barbecue and really barbecue the meat just fantastic. now even though we both got the steak and salad. Review from three years ago: Yes, they give mighty portions (as seen in my photo of the steak fries) but the service and taste are lacking in my opinion. My waitress had an attitude as if she was doing my a favor instead of her job even after I went out of my way in an attempt to cheer up thinking she may just be having a bad day. I ordered steak tips and rib combo with a baked potato. The steak tips were alright but I am used to a sauce, not just meat. Then the ribs were basically uneatable. It tasted as if someone over dry rubbed them or poured a whole container of pepper on them. I dare not send them back with my waitress for fear of what would come back next time. Also my baked potato was probably the best part yet they dont offer them loaded so simple potato as the highlight of my almost 60$ meal (two of us no alcohol with tip). My dad got a sausage with salad and loved every bite of it. My mom got the chicken parm with a side salad made with their house dressing. I had a bite of her salad. Absolutely delicious. My sister got the chicken parm /eggplant parm combo and she says she liked the eggplant even more than the chicken parm! The steak tips didn't have the same smoky flavor ( didn't "separate/ turn " them enough like they used to ?) The salad had 2 slices of tomato, 1 slice of cucumber and 3 rings of red onion ... and a lot of iceberg lettuce ( which i love ... but mixed with some veggies-- if you want to call it a salad) I had steak tips and fish and unfortunately fish was also a disappointment: baked fillet was sitting a puddle of liquid with some bread crumbs on top with no seasoning whatsoever... i just used the salt shaker on the table. This is a different twist! I am disabled and I have an 11 pound service dog! The dog cannot sit on the ground because it cannot see me and my breathing to know if there is anything wrong! I was told by the manager that he would deny us access if the dog was not on the ground! He violated my rights under the ADA! In addition, he said that by coming in I was violating the rights of his customers to their quiet enjoyment by his patrons! I do not wish my illness on anyone, it's that bad and I've had it for 50 years! This has really gone downhill. They used to have the most delicious steak tips ever - tender and tasty. Now they are gristly and hard to chew. What a shame! We've given them several chances, because every place has a problem now and then. But over the past year it hasn't improved. The scallops have typically been "to die for", but the last time we went they weren't any better than any place else, and really just average. I am a NY born Chicago boy Texan. That means that every time I return to the east coast, I am engulfed in nostalgia. The east coast has a much different vibe than the midwest of my past or the south of my present. The architecture is different, the people are different, the driving is different, and the food is different. I rolled into Boston this morning for business, and met up with a law school friend/local that I haven't seen in 31 years. After a good two hours of catch-up in the hotel lobby, he started to wax excitedly about a local dish called "Tips." To which I asked, "Can you eat?" To which he replied, "I can eat." A white knuckled car ride later, we entered the New Bridge Cafe. New Bridge Cafe is a cozy, local joint in the blue-collar Boston suburb of Chelsea. It has a wide ranging menu featuring everything from antipasti to Buffalo wings to cherrystone clams to all manner of Italian-American dishes. But they are known for their Tips. Tips, I learned today, are 3"x3" hunks of meat macerated in a sweet-savory marinade then grilled. Think of a chunky Kalbi or Bulgogi without the Asian flavors. Protein choices included beef, lamb, chicken, pork, and turkey. I opted for the beef/lamb combo with a side of Ziti. Ziti as a side? Damn, I love the east coast! My friend ordered the Turkey Tips with a garlic-heavy side of broccoli. The beef and lamb tips were perfectly grilled to the medium rare that I requested with a pleasingly sweet/unami bite and delicious char lines. The Ziti was, much to my surprise and delight, bathed in a meat sauce that was more than acceptable to this Utica, NY-born Italian-American boy. I didn't taste my companion's Turkey Tips (he wasn't sharing), but the speed with which he inhaled them suggested that they were...pretty good. Pretty, pretty, pret-TAY good. His broccoli also looked perfect--bright green and al dente. We dined at the bar, and the waitstaff could not have been more attentive or charming. Sensing that I was an out-of-towner, they insisted on calling me "first timer." I only saw the bar area, but it was clean, intimate, and delightfully old school. It felt like a bar where one would down a shot and a pint each night on the way home from work, and break balls for a half hour with the dudes in the next barstools over. They do a bustling take-out service. Paper grocery bags full of prepared meals were constantly handed over the bar and over our shoulders to the waiting crowd behind us. Prices are reasonable. Street parking is do-able, but may take some time and hunting. All in all, New Bridge Cafe is a great experience offering good food in a very pleasing venue. read more

I believe it must be nostalgia and good drinks. The food here is average at best, the only thing that has blown me away was the clam chowder; it was excellent! The steak tips have nice flavor but the cook is so inconsistent that I tend to play it safe and order the BBQ chicken. The side dishes are just mediocre; even the salad. I personally don't care how good the dressing is, they put zero effort into it. I have gotten lettuce and a single strand of red onion (nothing else) before and I feel like its a slap in the face to their paying customers.
