This vegan sushi place is now my go-to for sushi! I absolutely love this restaurant because they make everything taste just like the real thing! The duck and combos are enough food for two people to last two meals. Highly recommend

There is a tradition of cheap and cheerful sushi places in Bloot St W. If you've walked around Bloor and Brunswick, you know what I mean. I've walked by this place several times when it was closed, and was curious what "vegan sushi" was like. Well, today I got to satisfy my curiosity. Decor? Cheap and cheerful. Clean and simple. What you expect from a typical mid-range Asian restaurant on this strip of Bloor. I was a bit surprised to also see Thai vegan offerings on the menu. But, I came here for vegan sushi, and vegan sushi was what I would have. The Spider Roll has an iconic texture and flavor, so I had to see how they handled that. And ok, I was in the mood for some fake beef, so I got the Yaki Beef Udon. Service was efficient. Not super cheerful, not hostile at all. Which is about par for the course for this strip, again. The protein in the Spider Roll was similar to softshell crab in texture, not as close in taste but still good. There was no way they could match the texture of the shell itself, but they sprinkled some "soy fibres" on the outside of the Roll to give it a bit of crunch. Thr Udon was very tasty. It was because some Thai influence crept in with the herbs and spicing used. Certainly more interesting than a standard Japanese preparation. I want to say they used Thai basil, but I wasn't sure. I would have given another star, but: - the soy sauce bottle was sticky - while I was eating, the server gathered all the soy sauce bottles and poured them into a large container - he went into the kitchen and returned putting soy sauce bottles back on the tables Like the kids say, a bit sus. I'd go back to try the Thai dishes, but I would refrain from using any of the soy sauce bottles. Maybe I'm being too squeamish?

Absolutely delicious! I'm not a vegan but a friend and I came to this spot to try it out and I was so impressed. The sushi was fresh and flavorful and I left the meal feeling very satisfied, fulfilled, and not heavy. I'd totally come back to try other dishes, including Thai ones when the weather is cooler.

    House Special Duck ($18.99)

Ordered ubereats takeout and got their popular House Special Duck ($18.99). On ubereats the serving looks huge, like at least 12 pieces of duck meat. What I got was a tiny portion of 7 pieces, which I felt was a ripoff for the price I paid. Their special house sauce for the duck was decent, it tasted like soy sauce, hoisin, and a bit of mirin mixed together. The duck itself was pretty good, chewy and flavourful and nice skin. -1 star for the price and misleading advertising, and -1 star for the bad spinach the duck sits on, that tasted like dirt and water. Add some flavour to your veggies ffs. Overall I'd still recommend the place, just prepare to spend a lot and get very small portions. It's all soy which is cheap, so idk why they're cheap about it.

This place is all vegan, and if you like /loved sushi this is a please you should visit for vegan sushi in Toronto The service was very good the food was even better. It's not a super large restaurant which is good so times because you SOMETIMES! get better service not to take away from any larger restaurants I had the Queen rolls, the fried shrimp and coconut cake

Vegan sushi? What? The image immediately conjured was of the vegan nigiri sushi at Planta on Queen West. This isn't that. You're better off imagining your favourite takeout sushi place, and completely forgetting that the word vegan is in the name here. It's interesting - the rolls are all new and yet familiar. They're vegan riffs on the classics, with meat substitutes galore. This was an UberEats order. I got the Caterpillar Roll and the unagi handroll. Both were great! Honestly, my expectations weren't super high (vegan sushi?!?), but they really pulled it off. The substitute meat in the Caterpillar Roll actually makes the roll taste more 'meaty' than if it were fish. It's smoky, slightly tangy, and compliments the avocado perfectly. The unagi handroll was less impressive, but still worth trying. What's listed as unagi is (I think) king mushroom in sauce. The mushroom slipped right out of the roll as I took my first bite, so I was left with an empty cone of rice. Just a word of caution. To me, this joins the ranks of other vegan restaurants that do traditionally not-vegan things very well. If you just look at the ingredient list, it's a bit more expensive than makes sense, but when it's in your mouth the price seems about right. Definitely worth a try!

If I could give more stars I would. This is a great sushi restaurant weather you're vegan or not. If I'm ever back in Toronto, I will make sure to come back here.

There were three add-ons (toro with caviar $25, uni with caviar $35, and caviar sushi). I opted in for the toro and uni add-ons. It was strange they give you the add-ons before any other nigiri. Everything was very good and fresh. Standouts for me was the appetizer, all three cuts of bluefin tuna, the lobster (by far my favorite), and the hotaru ika. I would've appreciated knowing that the omakase included or not included toro and uni before I decided on the add-ons but I don't regret it. It was a splurge night after all. Service was very attentive. Note that the dining space is very small. 12 seats around the counter and two tables. There was a very loud gentleman two seats from me who never learned to use his inside voice and totally ruined vibe. But that's not on the staff. Another note is that gratuity is automatic on the bill.

The space itself leans more modern and clean rather than the typical dark, cozy izakaya vibe, which I actually didn't mind. It felt comfortable, not too loud, and easy to settle into for a slow dinner. We ordered a mix of small plates to share, and everything came out looking nicely put together. The aburi-style salmon sushi was one of the highlights for me.. lightly seared, with a soft texture and just enough flavor on top without being overwhelming. The tuna tataki was also fresh and clean, simple but well done. Some of the fried dishes leaned a bit richer with the creamy sauces, but they were still enjoyable, especially if you're in the mood for something a little more indulgent. The beef fried rice was straightforward but satisfying, one of those dishes that's easy to keep going back to between everything else. Drinks were a nice touch too.. refreshing, nicely presented, and added to the overall experience. Overall, this feels like a solid spot for a casual night out with friends.
