Definitely a solid spot to visit when you're in Toronto! The interiors were beautiful, and the atmosphere was lively. We were seated in another room, which was a bit quieter. The staff were attentive and friendly. We enjoyed the salad and chicken dishes very much! I especially enjoyed the 0% alcohol Sapporo!
Had a great meal at Lao Lao Bar! The food was delicious, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and it was wonderful to see a restaurant celebrating Lao culture. Looking forward to coming back and trying more of the menu!
Dinner with a guest! Make reservations! This place does get busy!!! And it was mid week too. Came for an early dinner. So many options! I need to come back to try more!!!! Very busy like I said and a bit loud, but it's ... getting nicer out and people will start to gather!
My husband and I visited Lao Lao Bar on Monday night for the first time. We were seated right away and given menus. Our waitress was very friendly and super helpful. We ordered 2 cocktails to start with the tapioca dumplings and green papaya fritters. The drinks came out immediately. I had the Tincture Perfect, which was outstanding. It was the perfect mix of sweet, sour, floral and bitter. I loved it! My husband had the Unit 75 which he really enjoyed. The grapfruit bitters rounded out the sweetness of the Chambord and the sourness of the lemon. We decided to order another cocktail each just as our food arrived. I had the I Have a Lychee Secret. It was a little on the sweet side, but was very yummy. I loved the black pepper on top but didn't really taste much cilantro. My husband had La Passionista which was great. It was so well-balanced and flavourful. The dumplings were AMAZING! The butterly pea infused tapioca gave the perfect bouncy, chewy texture to the outside and the mushroom and radish centres were so tasty. Our waitress explained that they should be eaten in a lettuce cup with cilantro, mint and peanuts. YUM! Such a flavour bomb. The only thing I would have changed would be to add some sort of a spicy, salty, sour dipping sauce like a nuoc cham. The green papaya fritters were also just fantastic. They were crispy, crunchy and the dipping sauce was a little spicy and sweet. All in all, we really enjoyed our meal and would 100% return. I have already reccomended them to others.

The space feels welcoming and comfortable, and it's the kind of place you can settle into without feeling rushed. The tables can feel close, but everyone is in their own conversations so it's lively in the atmosphere. Parking is on the street or a green P garage minutes walk away. Service: 5/5 Service was excellent from start to finish. Friendly, attentive, and quick when it mattered, without hovering. Everything came out smoothly and the pacing of the meal never felt rushed. Just make sure to let server know of any allergies as there are nuts used in cooking. Food: 5/5 The Thai milk tea was super refreshing and easily one of the best I've had. The beef salad is a must order for its bold flavors. For mains, the drunken noodles and pineapple fried rice were great complements to the beef massaman curry. They also have lunch menu at a smaller portion for a quick bite during the week.
I was impressed by their dishes, the portion is small but taste so good! I loved their satay chicken, the chicken was so tender and the satay sauce was special and not alike the usual one! The steamed fish was a bit salty but it's good when you eat with the sticky rice! The curry beef was amazing!! Beef was tender and the pumpkin so soft and sweet. We have our meal at the bar area, a bit crowded and seems like they are busy. We have our meal within 45 mins! The environment is good actually but remember to reserve the table earlier to get a relaxing dinner.
Amazing food, excellent service and great ambiance. We tried the grilled chicken wings, spring rolls and drunken noodles with chicken and shrimp. All was a 10/10. The cocktails were also tasty and flavorful! If you like a spicy marg, then La Pasionista is for you. I'd highly recommend checking this place out if you're ever in Toronto!
Standout dishes all around! The food at Lao Lao Bar was top notch and made for a very memorable family meal. My sister in-law chose this place, so we walked all the way from our hotel to the restaurant and as I suspected, she didn't make reservations. The place was jumping and was totally full for dinner on a Friday night. The hostess kindly let us know that there were no tables available at the moment, but our party of four could get on the waitlist and they would text us once a table became available. It was about half an hour later we got the text and were seated outdoors. We started off by sharing two appetizers- The Tapioca Dumplings and the Green Papaya Fritters. Both were great, but if I had to recommend one over the other, I'd say definitely do the fritters. The fried, crispy texture paired with the citrusy sweet chili sauce was a flavor combo that was genius! For my entree, I got the Seasonal Pork Belly Stew. As expected, it was super-rich, but this was the perfect indulgence I was looking for. The Jasmine Rice tempered the rich stew nicely and the dish was an overall home run. My drink and dessert I would rate at more of a 3 1/2 to 4 star range. I got the passion fruit juice, which was okay- I've had much better and the coconut sorbet with the crispy rice was good, but not as good as the apps and the main. The service here was also terrific. Our waitress was so knowledgeable and passionate about steering us in the right direction. Since we were seated on the sidewalk, it definitely made for interesting people watching. As for the interior of the restaurant, I only caught a glimpse of the inside which appeared low-lit and had a sophisticated ambiance. I would definitely go back to Lao Lao Bar again. Overall, it was a great experience and this time I would definitely recommend reservations. Very grateful to them accommodating us the first time around!

We got the bbq pork skewers, tapioca dumplings, panang curry, drunken noodles, and coconut and pineapple sorbet. The skewers were amazingly tender. The tapioca dumplings are served kind of like a make your own lettuce wrap. I liked the dumpling better on its own - it's chewy and sweet. We got all our dishes slightly spicy and it did not disappoint. The noodles and curry were very tasty. The pineapple and coconut sorbet was slightly disappointing. I'd try the tapioca pudding next time. But overall I'd go back and try more food.

I did had high expectations as the reviews were so high, but nothing hit the spot, not even the drinks Everything was super sour, like super sour. I rmb the server was like oh, and if you want a little bit more zestyness, squeeze in some of the lemon , THANK GOD WE DIDNT ~ even the mango sticky rice was sour,,, super disappointing... And portions are smoll, very smoll. Our bill ended up roughly 200+ for 3 people (minus drinks will be like 140ish for food) and none of us were full Oh! And they do have cake cutting fee, but wasnt bad. $2 per person :)
Pretty fantastic food. We shared the taro rolls and tapioca dumplings and I loved how flavourful they were. Bonus points for the texture. I had the panang curry with fish and it was incredibly rich and tasty. It came with a good portion of rice as well. Service was pretty fast. I did try some of the pad kee mao which was tasty and the bbq chicken. It is a bit on the pricier side.
Came here for brunch on a weekday and was happy to discover that many people also think brunch on a weekday a fantastic idea. Their food is delicious, service pleasant and an overall great experience.
Disclaimer: Biased review - I am Lao so we have our preference based on "home cooking". So please take my opinions as my own and treat it more of you need to check it out for yourself. The restaurant decor is nice, although the seating arrangements were a tight fit. We came right when restaurant opened and within 45 minutes it became fuller and by time we left became more packed with even the outdoor seating taken. My favorite was the drink Thum Jok - light and refreshing. Nam Khao (Fried Crispy Coconut Rice) - not bad but a bit on the sour side. What surprised me is the crispiness wasn't from the rice but from the pork rinds (Kiep moo). Although not a bad addition, there are some bits of pork rinds harder than others so when you're not expecting to bite into something that hard, took away from one of my favorite dishes. Steam fished in banana leaf (Mok Pa) - this is usually known in my household as a very fragrant and flavorful dish. Other veggies were added and missing some key flavorful herbs in my opinion. Although the fish that was used was hearty and maybe just didn't absorb the flavor very well. Lao Sausage - tasted well - wish it would have came pre-sliced though. I liked they served the rice in the authentic rice bamboo basket. BBQ and chicken wings were delicious. Presentation was very nice.
I'm definitely coming back here! We ordered the Tapioca dumplings, the beef messemen curry, and the mango and purple sticky rice. Wow! It was all so tasty. The tapioca dumplings are unlike anything I've tasted before. They serve it with a side of lettuce, mint and peanuts. I liked the dumplings better without the sides they served! The lettuce and other add ons dim the flavors of the dumplings. So I prefer just eating the dumplings straight on. The Messemen curry was so flavorful and the beef was so tender! I'm a big fan. If you're a fan of Thai curries then you'll definitely like this! The Mango purple sticky rice dessert was also really tasty! It had a tasty coconut sorbet and it all went really well together. Service was good, food came out quickly, vibes were good. No complaints here! read more

Such a cool vibe, the food was fantastic, and the service was wonderful. I'm not always a fan of coconut in savory dishes, but the Panang Curry was sooo yummy! The combination of fish and spicy curry infused with coconut was a pleasure bomb of taste. Everything was great, but that dish was outstanding. Got a few items to try. Overall, very tasty. If you love the typical southeast Asian flavour of lime, fish sauce, and cilantro, this will definitely be a favourite. Service was great. Compared to the other dishes ordered, the beef salad took a really long time to come out. Portions are on the smaller side. This is a great place to go in a date. read more
This was my first time having Lao food. I loved the food and the service was great. The ambiance was slightly too loud for me. But the food was all tasty, and we definitely got enough food for 5 adults and one child. My favorite was definitely the seasonal pork belly dish and the dumplings. The drunken noodles was also really good. I loved both the mango sticky rice and the sago. The only complaint I had was the lack of AC or fan. I'm not sure if it's a Toronto thing, but it was really hot inside the restaurant even though it was 8:30-9 pm at night in July. read more

This is probably my favorite place in Toronto! I love every single dish that I had! Order the beef salad, chicken wings and beef massanman. Beef salad are thinly slices with garnish in a tangy sauce that makes you crave for more! It's light and refreshing and I don't even know how to describe it. You got to try it to know! Wings were amazing too! Its flavorful and nicely grilled, only downside is some of them are not as golden brown as the rest. But all flats! What more can you ask for?! Curry has a hint of mango, served with rice. There's also sweet potato and beef in there. Pretty good. Was kinda bummed that the banana leaf fish is sold out, but I will definitely come back for that fish! Need to try! read more
Fancy Laotian food place with a variety of options. Things aren't super spicy like some of the other Laotian foods I've had, I could actually tolerate it! I love the depth of herb flavor from each dish, and the presentation was all very fancy. read more
Had a lovely dinner with friends at Loa Loa. We had attempted to make reservations ahead of time, but they were full, but the restaurant suggested we come in anyways and see if there's any room. Fortunately, that worked out perfectly, and we got a table! The ambience was low lighting and the space bumping, but wasn't too loud to have a conversation accross the table with my friends. We shared the Mango salad. It was fresh and delicious - but warning - very spicy! I had the Boa Sausage. My plate didn't look at full as my friends, who had different entrees, but in the end I was very satisfied. It was a pleasant mixture of something meaty (the sausage) and something fresh, with a side cucumber salad. Overall, very pleasant and I'd like to try more things here. I had high expectations from this place but I think it was okay in terms of food. Definitely the place has great vibe and staff. But what really did not click with me was options in menu plus how they were so much same to thai food. The taste was okay not out of the blue. Plus the portion sizes are tiny. I had a really good time at Lao Lao bar. It's a great spot to go with friends. I wouldn't say a date night spot. It's dark lit and you can barely hear with how loud it was. However the food was a good. I ordered a couple of things the drunken noodles were pretty standard. Good balance of everything you would expect. The portion is on the smaller side. My favorite thing was the fried papaya salad. What a smart idea taking a traditional papaya salad and frying it up with this salty fish sauce dip. Honestly I could have had so many of that alone. I sat at the bar service was okay, when they did check in my the staff was helpful. They were limited checks with how busy it was. read more
Food is fantastic!! Service is out of this world! We had the 12 course dining experience and it is hands down amazing!! I am a vegan and my family are not. Normally I am struggling to eat. Lao Lao Bar accommodated all of my needs and made me feel welcome. The restaurant is beautifully designed and the decorations are gorgeous! read more
Everything was flavourful and delicious! We thankfully had reservations made, which I recommend doing since it got packed within 20 mins. They do have dinner and lunch menu, so if there are certain items you are looking for plan accordingly! The service did get pretty busy due to the amount of customers they had, so we did lose our server a few times while trying to get the bill. read more
Made a reservation for a Thursday night and had a fantastic dinner here! I tried: + Pear-is Hilton: the simple life slushie + claw & order + Bean there done that + Green papaya fritters + tapioca dumplings + crispy coconut rice salad + Mango sticky rice My favorite cocktails were the slushie and bean there done that. Best dish was the papaya fritters - never had papaya salad deep fried like that, and it's genius - which came with an incredible sauce. My second fave thing was the mango sticky rice. Tapioca dumplings and crispy coconut rice salad were also fantastic! read more
Came here due to rating and first time (3 of us) eating Laotian food. Ordered papaya fritter, panang curry chicken, vermicelli with chicken in red curry sauce and masamun beef. papaya fritter is the best! the sauce has a nice kick! the rest are meh (good but not Wow). we all agree that this place is not a place we will return. Great ambience and attentive service. Very small table which feels intimate/close and easier to have coversation with your table partner(S)-considering today is 2nd time 3 of us met (i.e.new friends)! since the table is small, beware of not having space if you ordered too many. 1 red vermicelli plus one-third of papaya fritter cost include tax and tips are $41. I have more worthy (taste and price ) experience at other places. Guess we are paying for 'name' and ambience. Give this place a try and be your own judge. cheers! read more

Lao Lao Bar completely exceeded my expectations. I went for the first time for a work holiday dinner, but the dynamic at my workplace is very social, colleagues who are also genuinely friendly, so we wanted a place where we could actually talk, catch up, and enjoy ourselves. This spot was perfect for that. The ambience is absolutely amazing, lively yet comfortable, and works equally well for friends, family, or a date night. The food was a pleasant surprise, everyone at our table enjoyed what they ordered. I had the BBQ chicken, which I highly recommend. It's a generous portion and felt surprisingly low-carb, served with a light noodle salad that was much better than expected and a refreshing cucumber salad on the side. The chicken itself was huge, flavourful, and delicious. One of my colleagues ordered the braised pork stew and described it as comforting and thoughtfully done. We also shared the fresh spring rolls, and the dipping sauce was honestly incredible. The service was great as well. Our server was attentive, helpful with questions, and made sure we were well taken care of during the couple of hours we spent there. I'd definitely recommend booking ahead, we reserved through OpenTable for around 5 p.m., and within half an hour the place was completely full. Prices were very reasonable too, around $20-$30 per person, which is hard to find in Toronto these days. Overall, a great experience, I'd absolutely go back and try more of the menu. read more
The BBQ is actually one of the best I've had. It was not dry at all, absolutely blasting with juice and flavor. The green sauce on the side can be a bit spicy, but gives the chicken incredulity kick. The salads on the side were also superb. Service was fantastic, and it's always filled inside. Vibes is kinda dark, but a wonderful modern place with great decor. read more

I came here for New Year's Eve with my date. It was her first time trying Laotian food and so far she wants to try everything on the menu. We ordered the blue butterfly pea dumplings (which was so appealing to the eye and very delicious), the chicken and shrimp fried rice (she said it tasted exactly like her moms cooking, but she wishes it had a little more heat and more flavour. I thought it was perfectly seasoned, I prefer to taste the individual ingredients), the coconut fish wrapped in banana leaf (I ordered this last time and I was addicted to the flavour because it's so unique so I ordered it again), the vegan Thai tea (which wasn't too sweet, it was definitely the perfect drink to end the year with), and the coconut sorbet (this has me in a chokehold - it tastes exactly like the Vietnamese street icecream back in the motherlands and had me feeling really nostalgic). We're definitely coming back. Service was on par for what we expected and the hostess was friendly. The place is very lively, lots of good music, and great to bring dates to! read more

Such flavourful Laotian food! I got their tapioca dumplings, massaman beef curry and pork skewers. Everything was delicious and cooked well. It's a bit on the pricier end for the portion sizes, but it is more of an upscale restaurant judging by the decor. The tapioca dumplings were so interesting and unique, I'd definitely recommend it. I came on a Saturday night and the place was very busy. Be sure to reserve in advance otherwise you may not get a seat. Ambience The restaurant was nicely decorated and had dim lightning. I was seated more in a corner so had a bit of privacy from everyone, which was nice. Food The pork skewers and tapioca dumplings were both somewhat bland, which I didn't expect given that these were highly recommended by the servers and other internet reviews. In terms of the Lao sausage, it had a unique flavour to it. I not sure how to describe it; I would recommend trying it just to try, but I would also have been down to try something else on the menu as well. I found the sticky rice to be like regular rice with just a tinge of stickiness. And although the dish says it's spicy, the sausage itself is not, but the salad was spicy (note: I have a very low spice tolerance so others may not find it to be spicy at all). Service The service was a bit slow. I think this was because they did not have that much staff on the floor, which was not ideal on a very busy night. Had a reservation but they only had bar seats. Came from after work and there was no spot to put my backpack and tote bags. First time I came they mentioned reservation only. The food took soooo long to arrive. Maybe 20-30 mins to get the main after our 1 app arrived. I think they waited for both mains to be ready at the same time because 1 main (chicken lemongrass) was cold. Like room temperature, while the other main (pad ke mao) was hot. The pad ke mao was good but very oily. Some cheaper places elsewhere. Portion for both mains was small. Definitely need to order at least 1 main and 1 app per person. We Ordered 2 apps, 2 main, and then ate a 2nd dinner elsewhere lol. Our fav items were the pork skewers, lemongrass bbq chicken, tapioca dumplings. read more

I've never been to Laos, but thanks to Lao Lao Bar in Toronto, I got a delicious glimpse into the country's vibrant cuisine! Located in a cozy nook of the city, this spot has quickly become one of my favourite places for a mini-escape--no passport required. Fun fact: Hollywood star Michelle Yeoh loves this place too, so if it's good enough for a Bond girl, it's definitely good enough for me! Stepping inside, you're greeted with an ambiance that fuses Eastern Asian charm with modern flair. Think sleek wood, soft lighting, and a vibe that whispers, "Relax, you're on a mini-vacation." It's the perfect spot to duck out of work for an hour or two, or to impress friends with your (suddenly) worldly dining choices. Now, onto the main event--the food! Lao Lao Bar's menu boasts an impressive 40 items, and with a little guidance from our fantastic server Myleen, we navigated our way through the local favourites. Heads up, reservations are recommended, though they do accommodate walk-ins. Just don't be surprised if you have to give up your table for the next eager food adventurer! Here's what we indulged in: Tapioca Dumplings: These blue butterfly pea-infused dumplings are stuffed with caramelized shiitake mushrooms, preserved radish, chopped peanuts, fresh herbs, fried shallots, and a hint of chili. Wrapped in lettuce leaves, they were a burst of flavor in every bite. Tasty, tasty indeed! Satay Chicken: Marinated in turmeric and coconut milk, this dish comes with a generous serving of house-made peanut sauce and cucumber-shallot vinaigrette. The chicken was tender and the peanut sauce--let's just say I could drink it by the gallon. Expected, but in the best way possible. Green Curry Fish: This dish featured spicy green chili curry with fresh Thai basil, pea eggplants, and young coconut meat. The basa fish was soft and perfectly paired with the curry's refreshing kick--ideal for a match with white rice. Overall, our experience at Lao Lao Bar was delightful. Will we be back? In a heartbeat. And who knows, maybe next time we'll run into Michelle Yeoh! read more
TOO EXPENSIVE! And small portions! That aside, service was great and food was delicious - not sure if it's worth the hefty $$$ (20$ for apps, and at least 30$ for a small main).
