Finally, the first Japanese market I've been to since moving to Ohio from Cali! Why did it take four years for me to discover this place?! Oooooh, the suffering. The market is located in a plaza with other Japanese stores conveniently nearby. It's a two hour+ drive for me to get here from Cleveland, but we brought a cooler just for the purpose of shopping and bringing food back! (Yes, we were thatttt desperate...don't judge us! :p) Walking into the store you immediately see all the bento boxes for people to carry out. They have a wide range for you to choose from, chicken karaage and curry chicken katsu to salmon and tempura fried shrimp. They even have onigiri mmmh!! From the pictures I posted you can see everything looks fresh and delicious. They of course also have a section for sushi rolls as well, which were amazing as well. The store is a decent size. I can't say it's as big as Mitsuwa or Nijiya market, but I'm just thankful this place exists here. They have a variety of sashimi that was very fresh, and of course sake and other Japanese alcohol for those that like to drink. You can find all sorts of Japanese beauty products as well, from facial masks to shampoo. Everything in the store is very orderly and kept clean, so if you are craving for you favorite Japanese snack and can't find it at your local Asian market...you know where to go!! read more

Whenever we are in Columbus, we always love to visit Tensuke to pick something up to take home with us. There is not a designated Japanese market in the Dayton area so we love to stock up on items when visiting. It's a little market but has plenty of pantry items and fresh produce to buy. Upon entering, there are bento boxes, sushi, onigiri, sandwiches, and fresh bread to buy. I have tried their sushi and it has always been delicious. It's nothing compared to what I have had in LA or Japan but fantastic for Ohio! It definitely satisfies my craving for sushi if I have not had it in awhile. They also sell fresh sashimi, various meats, sake, beer, and an assortment of Japanese snacks and drinks. The snacks are overpriced in my opinion but when you can't find it anywhere else, you'll tend to pay the price. The staff is very friendly and nice as well. Tucked away off Old Henderson is a great little Asian grocery. Actually, it seems little at first, but is medium-sized, and has a great selection of imports: fresh stuff, frozen foods, dry goods, snacks, etc. A cooler full of drinks up front, which drew me back on a hot day. And the main draw for me: sushi. There is a decent variety of very fresh choices, and while it may not be the best sushi in the world or even the best I've ever had, it is very very tasty, very fresh, and super cheap. Cheaper than supermarket sushi, and much better. You can get some and go into the attached cafe, Tensuke Express, pay for everything at once, and eat there. The place is clean and bright, no fishy smells, and has great service. I got some sushi, a red bean bun for later (it was fresh and amazing,) and some dry goods. It is far out of my way, but I'll make a point to come back, for snacks, cooking ingredients and sushi. read more

Very authentic Japanese grocery store with very good, very reasonably priced sushi counter. They offer extensive premade sushi and bento boxes in refrigerated coolers, but this often sells out. You can also walk back to the sushi counter and order whatever you want. It takes ~10 minutes to make, and then you're out the door with delicious, relatively inexpensive sushi. Tensuke gives you the most good-quality, freshly made sushi you'll ever get for what it costs...! If you're Caucasian, you are welcome here but will definitely be in the minority. The vast majority of customers are Japanese. You can also pay for and then eat your sushi at Tensuke Express, their fast- Japanese food restaurant attached to the market. read more

This place is awesome, a bit pricey. Nonetheless, they have the best and fresh salmon in town. I love that they offer to cut your salmon for you. They have a sign showing different types of cut they can do for you. My favorite salmon is the king salmon. It's literally melt in my mouth at the first bite. Another plus about this place is that they do have some ready to eat boxes with a lot of food selections: fried salmon rice box , fried eggs and rice and etc... Very busy, popular place so if you're coming in with a big party (we had 10 people), it's a little difficult to find seating because it's first come first serve, not seating by a waitress/waiter. The service was great and they were al friendly, sweet people. The curry had a good portion of food that filled me up. The curry had good taste and the rice cooked nicely. Your go-to for affordable, quality sushi in Columbus. Quality is consistent, selection is a hit-or-miss depending on the time of day you go. However, the perks are that if you go late in the evening, all sushi will be 20% off then maybe 50% off. I love their futomaki roll. Or sometimes I just get the egg (near the register) and they'll cut it sashimi style at no charge, which is fantastic. I'm also a huge fan of any sort of salmon rolls and philly rolls. I've been going here for many years for my homemade sushi / roll / etc needs. They literally have everything you need including materials to help roll your rolls. You also have a large variety of sushi rice. They have all sorts of fish - different varieties of salmon, tuna, tamago (egg), octopus, eel, even uni. They also have wasabi and small packets of wasabi (10 cents each). And of course they have lots of rolls to choose from that are very cheap! All prices are very fair too. Thanks for serving raw chicken that made me sick. I sent back the chicken kare first time but the chef insisted it looks like that and claimed he prepared the second one. It came back again, raw, i tried to eat some of it.. but after a while it made me sick that i have to go to the bathroom. I also sent back the meal that I purchased but never refunded. This is a great market! It's small, but there are tons of things, including sushi and Bento boxes. I've had their pre-made sushi, and it is very good. This is a fun place to browse around or come to if you're looking for something specific you can't find at traditional American grocery stores. Om nom nom! Nom raw fish! Call me crazy, but when the urge for raw fish struck me, I consulted the yelposhere and was not let down. Got there a little close to closing and selected some raw fish for some home made sushi! The price was decent per pound and they sliced it for free! I will definately be back. I come to Tensuke Market and their restaurants next door all the time. Having lived in Japan as a child, sometimes I crave specific Japanese foods that are hard to find without an Asian grocery. They have a variety of snacks, ramen, sauces, Japanese kitchen, frozen foods, and more. Their produce selection could be better but usually I come here for the packaged items that are hard to find in general Asian groceries anyways. The prices for things that can be found in a general Asian grocery are sometimes higher, such as the bags of rice, so I try to pay attention to to the price tags. Tensuke also has a lot of packaged ready-to-eat options as well. Bento boxes, onigiri (a childhood favorite of mine!), sushi and sashimi, kimchi, yaki udon, katsudon, and more. There's also bread, pastries, and sandwiches from Belle's Bakery which has a standalone location a next door. My internship is really close to Tensuke so I end up buying these items during my lunch break a lot since they're pretty reasonably priced! If you want to eat it immediately and want it hot, there's a microwave at the sushi restaurant connected to the market on the left. If you like the food, I definitely recommend going next door to Tensuke Express! read more

As a Japanese food lover, I had to go especially after I found out on other yelp reviews of their ready to go sushi. As I walked in to the market, I know ...there's no going back. It is not a huge market but it has everything you need for a quick snack, breakfast, lunch, fresh produces for dinner, and plenty of sake selections. Well organized and clean! Cashiers are friendly and approachable. Unlike sushi from other grocery stores, the sushi at Tensuke are perfect- rice are soft and prep the proper way, sashimi are fresh and generous portion. Decided to hit up the Upper Arlington area for lunch and thought we'd check out the Japanese marketplace. Upon arrival, we weight our options and decided to hit Sushi10 which is part of Tensuke Market ~ they offer fresh sushi or these amazing poke bowls. I'm a huge fan of poke and was stoked to finally get the chance to check out the newest edition to the Old Henderson Japanese Marketplace, Sushi10. This spot named 10 indicating the "best" in addition to the fact that Ten means heaven in Japanese ~ this spot definitely lives up to its name. All fresh ingredients that I basically want to eat every single day of the week. Each poke bowl includes rice, avocado, cucumber, pepper, arugula, edamame + ginger. You can add cilantro, jalapeño, takuan {radish} and tenkasu {tempura}. Add seafood of your choice {or veggie} ~ I went with my favorite; a gorgeous tuna and then topped with green onion, sesame seeds and shredded Nori. Last, add one of their 4 delicious sauces to top it off. Every sauce they have is good so I basically get all four and dip each bite so I can have a different flavor each time. Of course when you visit you HAVE to make a quick jaunt through Belle's Bread for some green tea ice cream. I get the swirl which is green tea and vanilla. read more

first timer and i am already looking forward to what i'll be eating next.. i remember coming to the tensuke market several years ago and it was so tiny compared to what it is now! it's newly remodeled, so open and the menu is very easy to read and understand (especially when you have no idea what to expect). i got the spicy shrimp tempura bowl. it came with 4 pieces of shrimp tempura with drizzles of sauces and the rice was so soft and perfectly cooked. i would recommend this spot for anyone who is craving some noodles and rice in a great atmosphere! read more

If you want authentic Japanese ingredients, Tensuke is the only place you need to go. Really, its like the ONLY place for miles and miles. When friends of mine from Japan come to visit, (who now live in Michigan, West Virginia, North Carolina) they are adamant: We have to go to Tensuke. For the Japanese cuisine enthusiast, you can find wonderfully affordable ingredients like fresh mitsuba and kikuna, Japanese variety eggplants, thin-sliced shabu-shabu meat, high quality ponzu sauce, and very fresh sashimi grade fish. This is the only place I will buy fresh ginger. Its sold by weight ($1-2 for a large bulb) and is so fresh, so moist, with a thin skin. I am really into this ginger! If you're not a cook, check this place out for frozen gyoza (Japanese pot stickers), premade sushi and bento, and a fun selection of snacks and treats. They also have a section of beauty products. The Japanese are all about their baths - you gotta try out some of the bath salts and soaps. Last but not least, the service here is really great. Employees are polite and helpful. I'm definitely in like with Tensuke Market, but I'm not quite sure if I'm in love. Here's where I'm torn: I went to Tensuke to explore, and I didn't quite find what I was looking for; however, I found other cool things I wasn't looking for! I was looking for some really good produce, and produce I did not find. They had a couple of cabbages and other veggies, but nothing all that special. What they did have was a lot of packaged sweet treats and frozen pre-made food. I'm not really into that stuff, but go to Tensuke if you are - they have tons! Just when I was feeling a little down about my trek out to Tensuke, I saw a row of milk tea! Yay! I'm a total lover of milk tea, and they had a certain brand of Japanese royal milk tea that I'd been trying to find for over a year! Now that my heart was singing, I moseyed on over to the other side of the store and found their sushi counter! I'm not a sushi fan, but the mister is always looking for some great sushi. I got him a spicy tuna roll, and it was only $4! I know nothing about sushi, but the mister says this is a good price. He seemed delighted with his roll, so thumbs up to Tensuke! All in all, I enjoyed my trip to Tensuke Market. I won't be going all the time, but it's definitely a must-do to get my milk tea! You should give it a try! read more
