I came here during my lunch break and was greeted with staircases going up which is definitely new to me but not out of the ordinary. The place was quiet and not busy. There was only one waitress who seemed to be running the whole place all by herself. She was friendly. I ordered the tamale dinner which comes with rice and beans. I had my food to go and waited less than 10 mins. When she brought it out she took the liberty of giving me my sauces as well. Now by the way she handed me my bag (slanted to one end) I just knew I was going to have a mess and that's what I had. When I returned to the office even after attempting to sit the plate up right during my 3 min drive back, the sauce had spilled everywhere from it not being tightly closed and the food was just everywhere. The tamales were good and had a spice kick to it which I enjoy with my tamales but the rice and beans I did not like. I'd like to come back and give them a second try dining in. This place is hopping! They're doing a brisk business on a Wednesday night. My server, Grace, was excellent! I had El Dueto. It is two enchiladas and a tostada. No substitutions or I would've had a taco instead of the tostada. Chips and salsa here are excellent! The chips are very thin and light and the salsa has amazing flavor! I also got some cheese dip that was very thick and lovely. It was delicious! For dinner, I very much enjoyed the rice and beans which are better than most. Also, the pork chili enchilada is fantastic! I also loved the cheese enchilada, though it could've been warmer with the cheese more melted. That's a personal preference thing for me. Not a dealbreaker at all. Enrique, the owner is present and active. He is supervising the staff and making sure everything is expedited. Ed, the general manager is large and in charge. He was running food to tables when servers got overwhelmed. I love the team effort here! It's three stories of fun including a rooftop patio all on Hospital Hill. What a treat this place is. I have been here once before, but that was quite some time ago. I have limited vision. It was very dark inside. I had to walk up the stairs very carefully in order to stay on my feet without falling. I made it upstairs and sat at the bar. My overall service from my waiter was mediocre at best. I was charged for eating chips and salsa. I wouldn't have ordered them if he had bothered to let me know. He didn't know that chicken wings were on the menu. I had to tell him that chicken wings were on the menu. Two Ali is a mom and pop restaurant in downtown Kansas City near Children's Mercy hospital. I got to meet the owner and he told us the story of how the restaurant was named and where is inspiration comes from. The location is great if you are around the area and want a chill outing. The food was good but don't know if I would go out of my way to come all the way down from North Kansas City to grab a bit. I will say staff were friendly and they do a good job of being attentive the customers. The experience here is going to be good. Not much as far as healthy food other than a couple lackluster salads however they do have a $42 entree which feeds 2-4 people with a pile of tilapia, huge beautifully grilled shrimp (fantastic flavor!), and mussels over a bed of onions. The margaritas all have Tres Agaves margarita mixer in them which is sad and not necessary especially for the skinny margarita which only lists other ingredients on the menu in it and doesn't mention the mixer which is 16 grams of sugar per ounce and about four ounces is used per "skinny" marg rendering it not a "skinny" drink at all and quite misleading for folks w sugar problems like me! Luckily the bartender remade me a marg with only the necessary triple sec, tequila, and lime juice and allowed me to not wreck my glucose too bad that evening. read more

They just add the cost of $3.49 to your bill. Shady! They also charge for every little extra. So your lunch special is close to $20 and no longer a special. In summary, great food, but overpriced! The best part about this experience was being able to eat outside on their patio. The servers were very attentive and checked on us many times even though we were sitting in a corner. I HIGHLY recommend the Flautas Nortenas! They were the perfect portion size for dinner, and the homemade chipotle sauce it comes with was perfect (I asked for sour cream and didn't end up needing it because the chipotle sauce was so good). Their cocktail prices are great, and food prices are average for a Mexican restaurant in this area. The guac was very heavy in tomatoes, just FYI (I'm not a fan but my brother enjoyed it). If anything, you need to come here to experience the rooftop patio on a fall night. They have lights strung up and it is an ideal location to enjoy some Mexican food. The salsa is delicious, chips are okay. My margarita wasn't my favorite but that's not to say that I won't have another one.. just tasted kind of like juice. Teocali has long been the place to hang out after exams and hard days for the hospital bill students. It has great $4 sangrias and margs during happy hour and chips and salsa. It's affordable and fun, but the service lacks. Pretty understandable considering they are often understaffed and having to deal with huge rushes of students. The upstairs patio is perfect for spring/fall nights! Enjoy coming here as a student, but probably wouldn't go out of my way to visit once I graduate. It's a great place of trauma bonding though. He completely deflected to admonish my friend for dangling the piece of hair and then ask about bringing in soda flavoring from home rather than addressing the issue at hand and offering a solution for our harrowing experience. For a #tacotuesday I was expecting more of a crowd, but there were plenty of open tables around 6pm...when we left though, it was starting to fill up. Since we left Indianapolis I haven't found a cheese enchilada that steals my heart the way my favorite joint in Indy did...these came pretty close! Extra hot (temperature wise), extra cheesy, extra yum! The husband got the Tacos Fritos and said he might possibly have liked their tacos a little more than Manny's. The chips were delightfully light and crispy and the salsa was more flavorful than Manny's for sure. I spend a lot of time on hospital hill, and Teocali is one of my favorite places to stop by for a quick lunch or for happy hour. For lunch, I often get whatever the daily special is. I've not been blown away by the food, but I've also never had a bad meal here. The restaurant also has a balcony overlooking Holmes, which is my favorite place to sit and chat during happy hour. About 10 minutes after the food was supposed to arrive, I called and they said that they would be running a little late. The chips are thin and not overly salty which I enjoyed. Hard to go wrong with a queso/bean dip combo. The enchiladas verdes are served with refried beans & rice. For the enchiladas, I opted for the cheese filling which was nearly nonexistent. There was hardly any cheese inside and it was basically just layers of tortilla. Okay, I'm visiting here and born, raised and live in San Diego where we have the best Mexican food in America. I usually try Mexican food when I travel to compare to what I've known my entire life and am often disappointed. However, this is not the case here at Teocali. I must say that I am thoroughly impressed and this is by far some of the better Mexican food I have had outside of San Diego. The homemade salsa, guacamole and chips are all very authentic I don't usually like cheese dipping sauce for chips but this sauce was outstanding. The service was also top notch and Mary was a wonderful server. I will definietly be back next time I'm in KC. The only reason i don't have 5 stars here is because the fajitas were a bit salty but the seasoning on them was great and helped to make up for it. Definitely give these guys a try. read more
