I haven't had a dining experience this disappointing in a long time. Upon being seated, my boyfriend and I scanned a QR code to view the menu. The online menu is extensive and requires a lot of toggling between pages. When our server arrived at the table, he didn't introduce himself, welcome us in, or ask if we had been there before. He asked what we wanted to get started and due to the complexity of the online menu, we forgot what kind of guac we were ordering; it took us about 15 seconds to figure out. This seemed to irritate him, and the rest was history. Another server brought out our drinks promptly, and I waited for the server to come to the table with our appetizer and to take our food order. We did not see him for another 30 minutes. Meanwhile, I saw him check on all of his other tables and cozy up to his girlfriend at the bar. After 30 minutes, he came to the table and stated that he "didn't know what was going on" with our guac. I told him that I didn't either, and that I wanted to go ahead and place a food order. To his credit, he comped our guac and I thanked him. Though he never once apologized, I was ready to let this go. After this exchange, he once again disappeared. I saw his girlfriend at the bar look at her phone, then turn around to stare directly at me. She then said something to her friend, who also turned around and stared directly at me. I'm led to believe that something disparaging was said about me because I was rightfully irritated after waiting 30 minutes for guac and not even having my food order taken. This is a level of unprofessionalism that I have never experienced before. The second star is solely due to the food - I really enjoyed the guac and all the tacos we tried. According to my bill, the server's name is Robert M. (Early 20s, long hair, tattoo sleeves). Hopefully he was just having a bad day, but nevertheless, we won't be back. read more

My favorite Mexican restaurant. I feel like I am in a fine eatery in Mexico. They have lots of seafood options which I love and do not find in other places. Great cocktails and salsas. The family and I met two friends here for dinner on a Saturday at 6pm. Woah. There was an hour wait. Ok no problem, next time I will call ahead for a reservation! They have kids meals! This is key for us!! The place was hopping. From old to young. Married with kids to single with friends. Everyone was here. Cool! The layout is nice with booths along the left, bar in the middle, and a converted patio(?) to the right. They have many good beers, between 15 and 20 to choose from. They have recipes for mixed drinks with variations to the classics which make them fun. The hors d'oeuvres selection was varied with some "typical" goodies like chips and salsa or guacamole. The salsas are amazing. Like, don't-slather-these-on-my-face-in-public, kind of amazing. I did really think about doing that. Really. They have tacos in case you didn't know, a lot of them. A LOT of tacos. They let you order one, or two, or ten mixing and matching as you go. There mahi-mahi tacos were my favorite. WHAAAAATTT?!?! I'M DEAF NOW!!! This is one of those times when the atmosphere deducted a star. 4 star food, 3.5 star service, 2.5 star prices, 1.5 stars for the fact that I couldn't even hear myself think because it was so damn LOUD inside this place. The chairs and tables are way too close together. No room to scoot your chair back or walk without bumping into someone seated. Pros: Fresh tasting fish special that was cooked very well. Freshly made guacamole, could've use a little more spice, but good nonetheless. The rice is fresh and tasty. The black beans are well cooked and tasty. Full bar with some interesting looking drink creations. Cons: WHAT?!? I CAN'T HEAR YOU!!! $9 for 3 medium sides of salsa, yet this delicious, whole piece of well cooked bass is only $19???? I'm sooo confused. Confused AND DEAF!!! Forget about parking anywhere near here. You'll probably wanna park at the CU campus and take the bus in. SAY THAT AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!! Enjoyable experience overall. Great chips and salsa! Awesome tacos! We had the tempura, pescado, and shrimp tacos, and all were really great. Special shout out to the tempura taco-- it had a lightly fried avacado on it that was amazing to bite into. All had fresh tasting ingredients and well paired sauces. Also their chips were really tasty. They are homemade and the baskets we got were really made, still warm. Service at the bar was attentive and friendly. My only complaint was that it was really crowded. The wait for two was going to be 30+ minutes. We were fortunate enough to find a place at the bar, but the turnover at the bar was low, so it wouldn't be a reliable alternative to sit. My friend raved about this placed while we were hanging out and honestly I cannot for the life of me figure out why. The music was a little too loud and rap heavy. Not family-friendly music. The waitress, Sarah I believe, may have been new but seemed to have no clue what was going on. Both of my friends ordered the grilled red snapper. I ordered 4 tacos - the shrimp, the fried avocado, the tuna, and the pork shoulder. The shrimp taco was unbelievably spicy. So spicy that my lips felt like they were burning. The FRIED avocado taco was not fried. I received a raw avocado. Sure I love avocado but I REALLY wanted to tried it fried like described on the menu as that's a treat I don't/can't do at home. The Tuna taco came on a lettuce wrap, which yes they informed me of, however, I could not pick it up. It was impossible to eat by hand. I ended up using my fork for all of it. The tuna and mango salsa was delicious. The pork shoulder taco was great! My friends ordered red snapper. THEY DID NOT RECEIVE RED SNAPPER! Yes it was a whole fish fillet'd up and served, but they could tell it was not actually red snapper. The fish they said was very dry and needed a sauce to go with it. We had to ask for sauce, as well as salt and pepper, and it just took forever for the waitress to bring it back. Also, another big mistake was that the waitress TOOK MY DRINK BEFORE I WAS DONE WITH IT! Big no no, never do that! I was extremely upset but she was too far away for me to say anything. ambiance and service - i'm liking the vibe in here. todays date is with jessica, a lovely girl. it's noisy, but that's to be expected on a saturday night. instantly greeted by two kind and beautiful hostesses. one thing to note is a reservation in atleast a day in advance is necessary to get a table instantly. i'm liking the plants and the lighting fixtures. great vibez for a date. water - see picture below for visual. glasses were nicely stained and well weighted. not to heavy not to light. the water was great. it was cold but no ice was in the glass, very meta mains - i got the cotija and avocado tacos. jennifer got the pollo and carnita taco. for jennifer's intial bite, she was not impressed. chicken was a little bland. but as the meal continued, it grew on her. she now likes it, stating the sauce makes it good. 6.5/10. for me, the cotija cheese taco was delish at first. however towards the end i realized there was a layer of cheese at the bottom. and it didn't hit as much as i wanted, but i think that's a me thing because cotija isn't my favorite kind of cheese. 8/10. the carnita taco was bland, with too many purple vegetables. 5/10. finally the tempura avocado taco. i loved the kale salad at the base. but the tempura avocado was giving fish, which for a vegetarian is not ideal. regardless, i like avocado and it added a nice creaminess. 6/10. we are satisfied with this ~light~ meal. dessert - we got chorros for the table. there are four with two sauces: chocolate and vanilla. churros themselves are were warm and had a good amount of cinnamon and sugar. very filling and delicious the sauces were...interesting. sorta chemically (soap?). vanilla is like elevated cool whip but the chocolate is just vanilla with a sprinkling of cocoa, not very different. it was a bit doughy in the middle, but also impossible to tell they were gluten free. we do recommend trying this menu item but if your a sauce fanatic, proceed with caution. speed - 11minutes expected about 20, very impressed for the speed considering busyness and number of elements per taco. OVERALL - we liked it. it was a tad overpriced for what we got, but overall would recommend. good atmosphere, good tacos. i would take another girl on a date here...probably not jessica though. sorry jessica! read more

We absolutely loved this place! My hubby and I went during happy hour. Our server Amber was very friendly, attentive and did a great job giving us suggestions. We ordered the salsa trio-roasted tomatillo, molcajete and macha. Our favorite was the macha. We ordered street tacos as well, all of them were delicious! We did get the happy hour house margaritas, they were good but had sweet-and-sour mix. I am not a fan of this. Other than that everything was perfect. We would definitely go back! read more

We are seeing many firsts, driving LA ot NJ. Teocali chosen by friends of my daughter, who live in the area. They know their taquerias! Everything we had was awesome. We started with Guacomole with cheese and chorizo crumbles. I had the El Jefe cocktail and shebhad a mojito, both impeccable. BTW, it was chosen for having a gluten free kitchen, and there was never a flavor compromise! Between us we proceeded to taco of birria, pescado, pork belly and shrimps. Every pne delighful. went there for New Year's Eve at about 4pm. wasn't too busy when we got there and we got our food in a timely manner. The tables all around us seemed to get served faster, not sure if it's because they had larger groups or something, but we didn't mind too much. Once we finished the food, it took our server 40 minutes to come around and ask if we wanted the check. When we told her yes, it was another 15 minutes before she came by again with the check. I get things are busy, but we were just a party of 2 asking for our check. not sure why it took so long. to top things off both of us got food poisoning from the quesadillas I wouldn't have cared much about the slow service, but the food poisoning was the cherry on top. Would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

I wanted to like this place more than I did. The ambiance is great and the menu was promising. The three tacos I tried were pretty underwhelming- the beef was the best and had good flavor. The fish taco was just okay and the pork belly sounded yummy with tamarind and other ingredients but didn't taste like much. The garlic fried rice needed some sort of sauce since it was on the dry side. It is also a little weird they bring all your table's tacos out on a giant family platter and then you have to sort out who ordered which ones. Not my favorite.  The biggest issue was service related- our waiter was clearly new and not very familiar anything, from what was included in happy hour (which is just on drinks, not food FYI), what beverages they had, menu choices etc. But the kicker was serving me an alcoholic drink after we very clearly said I'm pregnant (like 8 months, so obvious) and can't have any alcohol. He remembered my drink wasn't supposed to have alcohol and told me it didn't when he brought it but somehow messed up. He kind of apologized after we had to go ask the bartender if there was alcohol in my drink after I drank some, but not much of a response for something I think is kind of a big mistake. Oh and I got to pay the same price for my eventual non-alcoholic drink as my friend's alcoholic margarita.  Will I be back? Eh. I don't think it was worth the $20+ for my meal. I also wish the mistake had been better handled.  Overall, it's a cool spot to hang but we have lots of other great Mexican to choose from in Lafayette. read more

Its a great space that they clearly put some money into and it will be interesting to see if they make it because we had a bad experience on our first visit. I think it is physically impossible to eat their tacos with your hand - at which point is it really a taco if you have to use a knife and fork? The structural integrity of those shells was non-existent! One of their "gimmicks" appears to be serving the tacos family style - so a big platter with all of the random tacos on it. Between our party of 3 we ordered 10 tacos and 7 of the different styles. Except when it comes out mismatched like this it is impossible to tell who each one belonged to. All of them are covered in cabbage and cilantro and looked the same. Who is ordering tacos to share family style? This isn't pasta or Chinese food - just give me a plate please with my tacos on it. The server was completely disinterested in the quality of our experience - one of my tacos was wrong to what it said in the menu and he shrugged and said he would talk to the kitchen and nothing came of it. And we never got more water or any return communication after my complaint. For 10 tacos, chips and salsa (Which are $9) and 2 beers our total with tip was $75 - so for soggy, mismatched tacos and poor service it isn't somewhere we are going to be going back to soon. read more

Great atmosphere. We arrived without a reservation on a Saturday night we were lucky and found 3 seats at the bar. The margaritas were unique, I am a spicy marg person and I found the perfect blend of flavor and heat with the Aro de Fuego (Fresno and jalapeno infused tequila, house made sour, cilantro simple syrup and fresh lime). We tried the guacamole which was ridiculously good. I opted for 2 tacos that were recommended by the bartender (Carnitas and Tijuana style shrimp) - they were both delicious and plenty enough for an entree. We will be back soon. This spot, so close to Boulder, is a find for those who appreciate authentic Mexican cuisine. read more

Stopped in for dinner and had an underwhelming experience. The right half of the restaurant was freezing and stark, while the left was warm with plush booths. Guess which side we were seated in? It was freezing and the chairs were horribly uncomfortable. The food was good, no complaints there. Had birria and carnitas tacos that were tasty, as well as a side of fingerling potatoes that were good but had an interesting vinegar-y flavor I wasn't expecting. The service was really really underwhelming, I think probably due to understaffing, and this is where they lost me. It started okay-ish? Our server didn't bother to introduce himself or ask if we had any questions, and he never actually asked if we wanted drinks or if we were ready to order. It was always "you guys alright?" And then he'd walk away. We finally had to tell him we were ready to order. It was just odd, I'm used to most restaurants taking drink orders right away and coming back to specifically ask what you'd like to eat, pretty standard stuff so no idea what was up with the super casual useless check-ins without asking us what we'd like. A large party was seated behind us at some point and after this we weren't checked on at all. We waited more than 30 minutes for our check after we finished eating and our plates were cleared, nobody came over to our table in that time at all and our server was hardly in the room for us to try and catch his attention. When he was he was focused on other tables, especially the larger party, and we were back in the corner so nobody was walking past to try and catch, it seemed like he was the only one serving the entire room at that point. It was really frustrating to sit there waiting for so long when it was so cold and uncomfortable, and we really just wanted to leave. He even came to check on the table right next to us (they arrived 30 mins after us) and they paid, we were sitting right there with our wallets out and he clearly saw us (we expected him to come over at this point) but didn't bother coming over to give us our check. When he finally did come over we had to specifically ask for the check as he was about to turn and walk away. Just not a great experience, would give 1 star but the food was pretty good (nothing extraordinary but satisfying) so 2 it is. read more

Came here for a snack and a cocktail. El jefe cocktail made with mescal Paloma Coctail Three of us split the chips and guacamole. We also added a carnitas plate. Pro: The carnitas plate had a substantial amount of carnitas and warm salsa, it was excellent. The meat was tender moist and with a slight sear to the outside. Fantastic corn tortillas. Con: for a massive plate of meat we were only provided a small portion of beans and rice to accompany the dish. Also only 3 street taco sized tortillas. ($5 additional for 3 more tortillas) For an $18 entree that is built on tortillas That was slightly disappointing. Overall: The food quality was excellent as were the cocktails. read more

Finally the guy came over asked where we wanted to sit, we asked for a table in the shade "well I don't know I clearly can't see if it's clean". Ok? Then he just walked away without escorting us to a table. Host came up said we could sit anywhere. Tried to go to our seat but then a server came barreling through between us. I think it's the best new restaurant in our town I had shrimp tacos and a salsa trio The peanutty salsa is some kind of voodoo sauce that makes a person fall in love with it. I went for lunch several days after it opened so there were a little mishap here or there but that's expected 3 days in. The house margarita was the best house margarita I've ever had. What a surprise in Lafayette! Walking into a wonderfully decorated, modern space we were greeted by friendly staff and seated in the main dining room. The menu was really interesting, but we had the carnitas in mind. We ordered the salsa trio with chips to start. Phenomenal. Wow these were some of the best tacos we've had here in CO. The birra was fantastic - moist, marinated in perfect spices and was so delicious. The main star of the show were the shrimp tacos. Holy. Cow. I would come here everyday just to eat these. Cooked perfectly and topped with a green salsa. They lightly fried the shell which gave it a perfect crunch. Also all their drinks and margaritas are on point. The ambiance of this restaurant is perfect for brining family, friends, or a date here. This place is a must try, especially if your trying to stay keto. Teocalli brings to the table (see what I did there) traditional mexicali food that has been hard to come by outside of Denver Metro. This place is all about flavor. I had the Teocalli burger and y'all, it was really really good. Portion size was more that I was expecting with just the right amount of guac. We also had chips and a salsa flight which offered the perfect mix of spice for the varying preferences of my family. Chips were fresh and had the right amount of salt. Our server was on it with a fresh batch as soon as we started to run low. The space itself is beautifully redone, atmosphere is casual, so come expecting a relaxed pace to service. We waited a minute for our bill, but as soon as we asked our server we had it 30 seconds later. so don't be afraid to ask for something you need. And I've got to say I was surprised by the low star reviews, especially the "over gentrified" comment which is totally unfair and frustrating to read. Elevating your food and atmosphere isn't a bad thing. It's innovating and fun to watch. I'll absolutely be back! read more
