We stopped here wondering what happened to the Black Bear Café?! It was a pleasant surprise when the waitress explained that the previous chef was now the owner and they had narrowed their focus to Mexican (and other latin) dishes. The food was authentic, if a little too salty. I ordered the chicken enchiladas with a spicy salsa. The portion was plenty and the price reasonable. The service was friendly and personable, and the atmosphere was homey. We will be coming back to try more of the menu! read more

This place has some of the best Mexican I've ever had. You can taste the love the chef puts into his dishes.

This was my go-to place for Mexican food for a long time, but it has changed. Inconsistent meals in size and quality over the past year are a disappointment. We consistently order the most expensive meals and one time it was a wonderful experience. The other two times it was a complete disappointment. Requested chips while waiting for order and was told it was an additional $6 just for chips. Every other Mexican restaurant in the area provides them on the tables with salsa. Not here. And better salsa can be had in many other places. On top of it all, it's overpriced for the area. read more

This is not a review of the food, but the overall experience. We arrived at 12 noon (an hour after the opening according to the sign). There was no one there ... just a bunch of other possible customers waiting around looking puzzled. Finally, someone (possibly the manager) rushed into the lot, parked between our cars and shoo-ed us out of the spot we were standing and waiting, and rudely told us there was no outdoor seating, and then went inside without acknowledging the people waiting or giving any information. Mr Jacob the Chef and his family serves up the most amazingly delicious Mexican food for miles around. You can't go wrong with the Tri-color enchiladas doesn't matter if it's beef or chicken. It's both heavenly. The portions are huge and worth every hard-working penny you pay.They have take-out too and if you order tacos for take-out they make sure to separate the shells from the fillings so that your tacos will not end up soggy by the time you get home. Fantastic mexican food made with love!! My wife and I love this place! We met Jacobo a few years ago when we were in town for a funeral and needed to find someone to cater the reception after the funeral. Jacobo prepared both mexican and italian dishes and butternut squash soup -- all were EXTRAORDINARY! We always stop by here whenever we are traveling. Jacobo is a great chef! Our go to favorite is quickly becoming the California burrito -- incredible!! Guacamole is great, tris colores enchiladas are awesome! Flan dessert is perfect!! Sorry to say I had to drop so many stars. The last two visits were not great. The most recent visit we noticed the black bean soup was not quite as good as it used to be, my chicken chimi had hardly any chicken, they don't give you enough salsa and guacamole for the chips ( and it's expensive and we weren't crazy about either), and the rice and beans were awful; couldn't eat them. Idk what's going on. Maybe a new or different chef last two times but this last visit will probably keep me from going back. $60 down the drain. Disappointed. read more

This place is wonderful! After weeks of my parents raving about this place, my husband and I finally got to go and it did not disappoint! The food was so flavorful and delicious. The tres leches cake was amazing, I could have probably eaten like three slices. It's a small, almost hole in the wall type of place, but it's definitely worth the trip. It can get very crowded, so make reservations. I think the best part of the meal was the owner (chef) coming out and serving us our meals. You could tell he is super passionate about what he does and loves serving people his food. His joy in serving us made the meal without a doubt. Really nice little place! It is very tiny place, nothing special looking but the staff and food are great! It is moderately priced several of the normal Mexican food options. They are doing take out only currently but go in order, head to car come back in the time they say and you will be good to go. If not from the area there is a small Beach Patk, just a 5-10 minutes drive away that have picnic tables you can sit and enjoy your food. read more

Very small tucked away off highway restaurant with BYOB option. We had the guacamole as an appetizer it was very good lots of different flavors cilantro onions peppers served with warm tortilla chips and a side of salsa enough for two people. For main meal I had chicken fajitas and my wife had the taco salad with shredded Chicken. Both meals were very large portions and. The flavors were amazing. The fajitas came out sizzling with blackened green peppers onions and a combination of various spices. Overflowing on the serving plate. Two additional plates came out with the rice and beans, and the lettuce pick de Gallo and cheese. Also at least 6 small fajitas. Best fajitas I have had within northern Jersey snd tristate area. We were taken aback by the appearance of the outside of the restaurant at first because it's a small place but WOW. We were so happy with how authentic the food was.
