I was hungry coming in and still couldn't finish The Not: - This was my first day experiencing Birmingham heat and humidity. Even in the shade, I was starting to sweat. One could say this is not anybody's fault, but one could also say throw up some cool fan/mist devices for your patrons. - I think the location is next to a daycare of some kind, because there were a lot of kids there. One could also say this is not their fault, but there was a screaming one year-old next to me. Yay. It's not Delta's fault that a crying baby is seated next to me, but that doesn't change the flight experience. - The Dino rib looked amazing, but the flavor was lacking. Seasoning a piece of meat that big is a work of art. Too much salt, and it's too salty...But I probably would have preferred more flavor than too little, because then I'm dependent on the sauce. - The sauce was the watery vinegar kind. That might work for certain dishes, but the meat was so big, all of the sauce just runs right off it. Which basically means I'm not getting that flavor for the majority of the meal. Normally, on an amazing barbecue dish, I will eat till I hurt myself. lol I just ate till I was full and left a decent amount of meat left because the flavor just wasn't there. I could be biased, because I am from Texas and salt and pepper is king. - The mac & cheese was OK. It looked like they sprinkled some pre-shredded thick cut cheese on top, which honestly just looked lazy. - At this point, I was getting a little grumpy with the whole thing so the brisket beans was not gonna happen. - I was having order remorse, but then I remembered the whole reason I got the Dino rib, was because I wanted to see how good the pure barbecue was versus a selection masked with salsa and other toppings. - All of this would've been fine for $15, but $40 bucks with the tip and a pop... Nope. - I wasn't just grumpy about the price, I'm a big guy. I did not need those 2000 cal. That meant I couldn't eat dessert because my calorie limit was maxed. lol Pretty fun place though. I would give it one more shot and just try the brisket, and if that was not fantastic...I don't think I would go back again. If I'm gonna eat Mexican food, I'll just go to Taco Bell for a fraction of the price. I ordered the chicken Philly with okra combo, he ordered the steak Philly with fries combo. Hold the lettuce on both. He also ordered the sauce on the side for his sandwich. The combos do not come with a drink, so the price is extra for those. I got keekeepooh punch, he ordered 2 grape Faygos. Our food was brought out hot and freshly cooked. The crack okra was delicious and some of the best I've had. My chicken Philly was nicely seasoned and the special sauce complimented the sandwich and didn't take away from it. By the looks of my friend's plate, he enjoyed his food as well because nothing was left, lol. There were several seats available inside to eat at, and the soft music playing on the speakers were a nice touch. I really don't have too many complaints. The only one I can think of is the combo description. Combos usually include the drink. Either increase the price to include the drink, or just advertise the food as the sandwich and choice of side. We waited over an hour for our food, while watching another table that ordered the exact same meal after us receive their food, eat their entire meal, and finish before ours was even brought out. That alone was extremely frustrating. I ordered my steak medium Pittsburgh-style, and what I received was nowhere close. When I questioned it, our server/manager assured us that the chef said it was prepared Pittsburgh-style. Based on what was served, however, it was pretty clear that the chef either didn't understand what Pittsburgh-style meant or simply didn't prepare it correctly. The mac and cheese was another disappointment. It was overcooked, dry, and lacked any real cheesiness, but somehow managed to have an extremely hard crust on top. After waiting more than an hour, I expected the food to at least make up for the delay. Unfortunately, it didn't. Between the excessive wait, seeing guests who ordered after us served first, the incorrectly prepared steak, and the disappointing sides, this was easily a 1-star dining experience. I was hoping to find a great meal while visiting town, but unfortunately, I left disappointed.
