During the pandemic a year ago, I ordered take-out couple of times and food was consistently tasty and well-prepared. There were lots of selections on the menu. Couple of weeks ago, I went there to order take-out. What a downturn...business looked bad, menu was limited to just a few items. A small place that packs are pretty big punch! Definitely need to call-in your order if going for lunch, place is super crowded and a bit narrow to navigate! The staff is super friendly and take good care of their customers! Overall I found the food to be quite good, I had the chicken veggie plate. The shredded cabbage with sauce was honestly 100% better than I anticipated and was one of my favorites. The chicken and rice were also cooked well, not my favorite teriyaki chicken but still pretty tasty. The macaroni salad was a miss for me, it added nothing to the plate and felt a bit off. Teriyakin' is a new Japanese restaurant in Morrisville. It features casual Japanese cuisine that they call "Matsuri", the food commonly found at festival vendors. The restaurant does have the atmosphere of a fast food place, with seating for maybe 20 to 40 max. The prices are very cheap, with all the entrees between $4.49 and $9.99. I got the tamagoyaki for an appetizer, though with the amount of food you get you really don't need to order appetizers. I got the rib plate as an entree, which comes with rice, a small cabbage salad and macaroni salad. My husband got the steak plate which comes with the same. After you order and pay, you take a seat somewhere in the restaurant and wait for your food to come. They also have sauces, plastic ware, chopsticks and napkins up near the front you can help yourself to. The wait is a few minutes, but I don't mind since that means all the food is made fresh, and not sitting under some hot lamp. I love tamago sushi, so tamagoyaki sounded awesome. I didn't realize it would be served hot! It was great, I love the way the Japanese make their eggs. I just wish there was some soy sauce to dip it in, they only have teriyaki sauce and hot sauces. The cabbage salad was pretty good. I've always liked cabbage salads better than lettuce salads. I think the dressing was some kind of ginger flavor. The macaroni salad was mediocre. I asked my husband if macaroni salads were actually in Japan, because it didn't seem to go with the dish at all, and he said he had never seen them there. The macaroni salad was the only thing really out of place here. The ribs were fantastic, though difficult to eat. I had to use my fingers to grasp the ribs and chew off the meat. It's a sloppy meal, but delicious. I tried some of my husband's steak, it was tasty. Not as good as the rib meat, but at least it didn't have any bones in it to eat around. We both ate all of our entrees, even though they were huge. Overall I think this place makes for a fantastic lunch restaurant. With the fairly quick food preparation and cheap menu, this would be an great place to stop by at least once a week. It's very conveniently located near RTP, just south of the Chapel Hill Rd. exit off 540. It's set a ways back from Chapel Hill Rd. though, so it may be hard to see if you're not looking for it. I was also impressed with how authentic the food was here. Japanese was spoken by the kitchen staff and the customers, and my husband said everything but the macaroni salad was just like what you'd get in Japan. I imagine 20 years from now this Teriyakin' place could be a very successful chain. We arrived shortly after 11:30am for lunch. It was pretty empty. There were 8 of us. We got in line to order and by the time I was done (the last), people were trickling in like crazy. I had the Spicy California roll $5.49) and the Chicken (teriyaki) bowl ($5.95). 8 rolls with spicy sauce on top. They weren't really that spicy at all, but they were very flavorful. The chicken bowl was light on sauce so I added a good deal of extra teriyaki and another cream sauce to it for extra flavor. They call out your number and bring it over to your table on a tray. Once you're done you empty your tray. I went back for a to-go box and cup for my soda. Customer service was fantastic, friendly, prompt, and kind. The food was good, but not out of this world. However, overall, I was quite happy. I have a feeling we'll be walking over here for lunch again on other workdays. read more

I thought we had to pick our side but nope, you get all three; macaroni salad, cabbage salad and rice. The macaroni salad is as good as I have heard so add me to the list of fans. It is like a normal macaroni salad but somehow it is better and I can't explain why. I really like the cabbage salad too. It is shredded thin which makes the fresh cabbage easy to eat and it has a nice texture and crunch. The chicken was great, cooked perfectly and it had the right amount of sauce. Quality has slipped quite a bit. This definitely used to be a go-to for several in my office. I was surprised when I went to order today I learned they no longer take phone calls you can only order online. The bummer to that is when you're order is wrong you can't call them to correct. You actually have to go there and with a lunch hour most don't have that time which is why we order delivery. I go to Teriyakin' every now and then when I need a quick bite to eat (because it's so close to work), but I'm not a huge, huge fan. They do have a few veggies dishes that taste fine, but it's not high quality dishes, and I always feel like a nuisance when I order it. We where staying at the Hyatt House near by and saw the reviews on Yelp. All the stars caught my attention and then I read a few of the bad reviews and almost did go to Teriyakin . I am so glad we did! We ordered the combo bowl and Edamame . The bowl was on the smaller side but absolutely excellent! Probably good it was smaller or I would have way pigged out! The rice was cooked perfectly. The meat had good flavor and was cooked to order. The Edamame may be the best I have ever had! Not sure what some of the 1 star posted experienced but for what Teriyaki is a .. ... A causal Japanese Chargrilled BBQ it is excellent. Definitely one of the best Hawaiian BBQ places I've gone to across the country. The next closest to as good as this in Portsmouth Virginia. The meats are very moist and seasoned so good sauce is not necessary. The price to eat here is very family friendly. For $9 you get steak, ribs, and chicken with rice, macaroni salad, and a regular salad with ginger dressing. The gyoza was grilled perfectly. I was really disappointed after receiving my food here because I expected to get a lot more meat/protein for the price paid. I ordered the teriyaki chicken with shrimp over rice since fried rice cost extra and Shrimp Shumai appetizer. Shrimp Shumai was good but over priced and I won't even start on the combo meal. If you want extra sauce of any kind, you can get them at the corner sauce station. The combo bowls are mostly rice with probably 15 small pieces of chicken and a few shrimps. What's not to love about this place? Affordable, fast, clean cut, no nonsense Japanese food...it's just great and a killer lunch spot if work in the area. I'm rating this for what it is, probably not the best Japanese food you've ever have, but unbelievable good, I'd say, for the price and the casual atmosphere is the best. I love their plates! I don't know what the deal is with the macaroni salad, ginger cabbage salad and the orange slice that comes with every plate, but it's all delicious. They have macaroni and potato salad which seems weird to me, but apparently they became commonplace in Japan from the 1920 to post WWII. The macaroni salad is a bit different from what I'm used to but it's great. Every time I've gotten a plate the meat has been cooked perfectly with a never dry, awesome char grilled, slightly smokey flavor. Their sauces are the best! The Teriyaki, White Sauce, and Chili Paste you get from the front counter are all unique and top notch, basically good on anything. Aside from the plates I've had the Gyoza, Okonomiyaki, Miso Soup and they've all been amazing. The Gyoza and the dipping sauce that comes with it are perfect, with just the right amount of crispiness on the bottoms of the dumplings. Like I said it's a great lunch spot, but it can get very busy. The service is always good and I've always gotten my food quickly. If you want to stop by for dinner, no worries they usually have a few people dining in with most people stopping by for take out. read more

For take-out, this place is not too shabby! For $40, I ordered Okonomiyaki (Japanese pizza), Yakisoba, pork dumplings, the chicken bowl, and The Works! plate. I originally had wanted the Teriyakin' Stew, but they informed that they didn't sell it anymore. I wished they had crossed it off the menu... I wimped out of ordering the Unagi Bowl -- I just wasn't in the mood to try an exotic food like eel. The interior is cute, but not so crazily decorated with Japanese items, which I liked, since some places go way overboard to the point of tacky. I dropped in after work to pick up a menu, since their site menu wasn't user friendly. If you click "Menu" in the navigation bar, only 7 items come up (the bowls and kid's bento box). You have to hover your mouse over the "Our Menu" button to see the other categories: plates, sushi, specials, a la carte, and catering. Unfortunately, the Pork Dumplings are missing, as well as the prices. The Okonomiyaki had the texture similar to that of a crab-cake, but made of potato, veggies, and thinly sliced pork (all mixed up). It was topped with a mysterious, white sauce. The Yakisoba was delicious (fried noodles, veggies, cabbage, and marinated pork) -- my favorite in the order. The Works! plate came with shredded cabbage (no ginger dressing on top), "Japanese" macaroni salad (least favorite), an orange slice (?), and three meats (chargrilled chicken, steak, and bone-in short ribs). The chicken and steak were juicy and pleasantly flavored with the sauce, but the short ribs did not impress me, due to the abundance of bone/cartilage. With a name like "The Works!", there wasn't as much meat as I anticipated. I enjoyed the Chicken Bowl in regards to the flavorful teriyaki sauce-soaked meat and the sliced green onions, but over 50% of the bowl was sticky rice. The Pork Dumplings were on point -- I could've eaten a couple orders with no shame. When I originally called in, the employee told me the order would be ready in 10 minutes (wicked fast), but I told him that I would pick it up in 30. When my boyfriend and I dropped by to pick up the food, it was all ready bagged and he was out in less than a minute! I was a bit disappointed that there were no chopsticks that came with our to-go order, so bring/buy your own! Overall, the plates are the best bang for your buck. If you're going to share, I suggest ordering a plate/bowl for each person with a side or two to split. I like this place. Here's why: 1. Yummy food - I typically get the Chicken Bowl with extra Chicken ($1 extra). It's char-grilled chicken served over rice. Fairly simple, but they season the chicken with some kind of secret japanese crack-like-spice, and it's oh-so-good. 2. Pretty fast - in and out in usually less than 5 minutes for me. I drop in around 11:30 to pick up lunch (so before the rush) and it's pretty quick. The downside... I don't get the impression that they are too happy about the yelp deals they offer, I've used them a few times and they always seem to be suspicious of them for some reason, asking for additional contact information in order to use them ,etc. It's gotten so I just don't use them anymore. I was once told by the lady (owner?) that her son set it up and she doesn't understand it.... Occasionally if you go in before around 11:30 the japanese video music is *very* loud, annoyingly so. Their food is good, so I'm not about to stop going there (that and it's fairly close to work for me.) The staff is not overly friendly, but they are efficient. On the ubiquitous "other side" of 540 from most of us RTP'ers, amongst a strip of shops that hasn't fully developed yet, next to a gargantuan hotel and urgent care center, exists a great lunch spot for anyone looking to satisfy their samurai apetite. I'm speaking, of course, about Teriyakin'. I'll get the bad rhyming pun review out of the way now, so as to spare you the groan and head smack of ending on it: "Teriyakin' is rockin." Now that that's over, hear me out: It's sort of like Kanki. In fact, it's 75% kanki at 50% of the price. So if you aren't in the mood for the theatrical, but love ginger salad dressing and amazing grilled chicken and steak... this is your best bet. They have great sauces that more apt reviewers have described in ways I can't possible begin to; read their reviews, they know whats up. I will say, though, that I like combining the Teriyaki sauce with the white sauce in the rice and making the ultimate "stick to your ribs" rice combination. They serve Coke products, have ample seating for the lunch crowd, and the price, while above average, is justifiable considering the quality of the food. Enjoy! read more

Teriyakin' serves an interesting combination of West Coast Teriyaki and traditional Japanese street food called yatai. While everyone these days is familar with sushi, yatai gives you a better sense of everyday Japanese food. We had opportunities to dine a couple of times at this new establishment. On one visit I had the teriyaki bowl, which was seasoned with sauce which was well balanced and flavorful (when it is not done well, the sauce is just sweet and tastes like eating burnt sugar. The other visit I had the okonomiyaki, which is flour pancake that contains a mix of meat, seafood, and vegetables that is then topped with sauce, mayo and green onions. This is a very typical yatai food in Japan, and what is offered at Teriyakin' is very much what you would get in Japan. Note, they serve some dishes such as okonomiyaki only after 3 PM, so if you want to try out the full menu you will need to go there for dinner. Definitely worth a visit if you want a good meal while getting a taste of Japan. read more

I stopped in to grab a bite after a long day at work. Knowing Brit had already fended for herself I was more than happy to point my car in the direction of this spot 5 minutes from work. I walked in and was immediately greeted by the gentleman behind the counter. There was a lady working a finishing station-basically dosing out the teriyaki sauce and placing the scallions on the meat, adding the fruit, the shredded cabbage and macaroni salad for plates She was also dosing out the rice. There were two people manning the grill and they were churning through chicken and beef. I ordered the chicken and steak plate. They wrapped it up to go, and I was off. There's a lot of food in these things. Easily 1.5 pounds of items in the tray. As I picked it up, the lady and the guy behind the counter wished me a great evening. (Talk about friendly) Once I got home, I perused their take-out menu and saw that it states their meats are marinated, that they don't use oil or skins. So a "healthy" bonus. The chicken was tender and well cooked. The steak was very flavorful. The cabbage salad was definitely different and came with a nondescript dressing. As other people have written, it's a bit strange to get paprika covered macaroni salad with a Japanese inspired meal. But we are in the south, so this must be a fusion thing. The mac salad was actually pretty tasty. The rice was a bit gummy, but since it was 30 minutes prior to closing and I was one of 4 people there, I can't really knock it that much. For a quick, relatively inexpensive bite of some pretty good food served up fast and hot. You can't beat this place. Pop quiz -- when visiting a restaurant with the name Teriyakin', what would you guess you're best bet is on the menu? If you guessed the curry udon or yakisoba, you get a demerit. (If you said a burger, stand in the corner facing the wall.) Your best bet at Teriyakin' is absolutely the teriyaki, with particular nod to the chicken, steak and salmon options, and better in a bowl than on a plate. The plate includes two ho-hum salads, shredded cabbage and Hawaiian barbecue-inspired macaroni; for only a bit more money, you're better off getting a $3 combo that includes a soda, miso soup and a couple pieces of crab & cucumber sushi. This option with a chicken or combo chicken/steak bowl is my most ordered meal, and what I come back for at lunch or dinner about twice a month when I'm in town. The salmon variant is usually of decent quality, but the unagi (eel; fatty and mushy), shrimp (devoid of texture) and short rib (decent but with little meat and very cartilaginous) don't come highly recommended. If miso soup and sushi aren't your thing, the pork dumplings and wings are acceptable add-ons. I've tried about every menu option Teriyakin' has added since they've opened and I keep coming back to the teriyaki, eating far too many average meals in a valiant attempt to expand my Teriyakin' horizons and/or feed my masochism. Perhaps the best of the other options is the evening-only okonomiyaki, a fair attempt at the traditional Japanese dish most comparable to a pancake that occasionally comes undercooked. The yakisoba registers as another decent option if noodles are more your game. The noodle bowls (udon and curry), on the other hand, are underwhelming, and it doesn't help that the piece of crab stick I got in one of my udon orders wasn't even unwrapped when it was tossed in the broth. Repeat after me: Teriyakin' = teriyaki. Stick with it unless I tell you otherwise. And enjoy the J-pop playing in the background. read more

Maybe because I'm generally a big eater, but none of the 'bowl' options are suitable for me, as far as serving size goes. if I'm rushed on time and ordering takeouts, then most likely ordering just one, and find an afternoon snack later on; if I do have time for a sit-down, then I'm always forced to order two bowls for my satisfaction. Yes. You can add $3 to get "the big combo" with miso soup + fountain drink + California Roll, but: 1) I rarely drink fountain drink; 2) I refuse to eat Cali roll, on the basis of not offending my heritage (I am 1/4 Japanese, and that ain't 'sushi' no matter how much you argue with me.) 2. Because of reason 1 above, the plates are usually the go-to; however, what is up with the macaroni salad? Yes, I understand you can get with macaroni salad OR broccoli, but still... you already getting the cabbage salad (reads: slaw) 3. Because of reason 2 above, "The Works" plate is really the best (only) option for hungry growing boys like me. Or, for the same price, if you just like the beef short rib/kalbi, then order the plate with just it. other options that I recommend: - Yakisoba (basically, Japanese Lo-mein) -- I usually pick it as my 2nd entree - Udon noodle soup, regular -- tasty, but again with serving size... - Salmon plate -- just any other plate with a seared & sauced salmon steak Additional option to consider: Ookonomiyaki. The menu referred to as "pizza," but it's really pancakes, with veggies and meat added to a semi-thin batter. At least, that's the traditional Japanese way. I would order this on caution, depends on who is in the kitchen making it. Because pork and veggies are added to the batter, sometimes they'll try not to over cook the meat, so you'll get a semi-cooked batter dead in the center. I supposed with the sauce and everything it's fine, but I'm a texture eater more than a taste eater, and I just cannot un-taste a half-cooked pancake batter. read more

I stopped by during their pre-open and tried a chicken bowl for lunch. It was great! It's a simple dish: a bowl of steamed rice topped with grilled chicken, teriyaki sauce, and scallions. It's simple, but very flavorful and freshly-made. The teriyaki sauce was very intense and tasty. The styrofoam bowl kept everything nice and hot. They had a couple of kinds of hot sauce on the table that made it even better. It took a little longer than I expected for my order to be prepared, but it was worth the wait, and the subtitled Japanese music videos on the TV were very entertaining. I got there around 1:30 and there was no seating but I was ordering to go so it was not a problem. I wanted the shrimp bowl, but they were out of shrimp which was sad and gets them deducted a star. I feel if you know you are going to be busy during lunch there should be plenty of every menu item. However, after seeing all the reviews I did not want to leave empty handed. I am so glad I didn't. Everything was seasoned so well. The chicken was tender and did not have a whole lot of fat on it. Been to Teriyakin' a couple times now and I've decided its a solid lunch place. It hits the spot for when you're craving Asian cuisine but don't want to drown yourself in greasiness. I've had the vegetable curry bowl and the combo bowl with chicken and steak. Both were great. I'm a huge Sriracha fan (its a kind of Asian hot sauce for those that don't know) and to my delight they have a bottle of it at every table. I douse my bowls liberally with the stuff. Much to the dismay of my burning mouth 15 minutes later. The prices are cheap as well. Food comes out really fast and the times I've been it hasn't been crowded at all. My only complaint is that the bowls are pretty basic. Its exactly what you order on top of white rice. No more no less. I would like to see maybe a bowl with a protein AND some veggies thrown in there, but hey, what they got on the menu really ain't that bad. Teriyakin' is a tasty place with pretty decent service and middling prices. I've been here twice and both times I was satisfied with the quality, speed, and friendliness of the staff. The place is clean and seems to get good business around lunch time (I haven't been there for dinner though), but gets your food to you pretty quickly. The choices include a bowl based choice and a platter type choice - so far I've had a steak and veggies platter and a steak and chicken platter - both were very filling. The platter comes with a salad that consists of shredded lettuce with ginger sauce, a macaroni salad, meat and/or veggies in a teriyaki style, and sticky white rice. my husband and i recently took a road trip to visit friends across the country (california to north carolina). it was great seeing them and the sights between the west and east coasts. the southern and cajun food we ate during our trip was good, but after awhile we were just craving something healthy and delicious. teriyakin' came to the rescue. i ordered the unagi (eel) bowl after talking with the staff (they have a "secret" menu if you ask or follow their facebook page). the eel was tender and juicy and the teriyaki sauce had a wonderful sweet salty balance (they make it themselves and should really consider bottling it. i would def buy it). the cucumber/crab salad was light and refreshing with just the right amount of sweetness. my husband had the steak/chicken plate and said both were cooked perfectly. i also tried the salads that came with his. the macaroni was very good and the shredded cabbage was topped with a yummy ginger/carrot (?) dressing. the food was so delicious we came back a second time in less than a week. teriyakin' is a family owned/run restaurant and it shows. they are very friendly, the place is spotless, and they take pride in their service and food. if you are looking for high quality authentic japanese food (they are japanese) come to teriyakin'. your tastebuds and tummy will thank you. read more

I had the steak bowl (not combin-ized) with a side order of pickles. The steak was tender, the sauce not overwhelming. Over a bed of rice? This is as good as it gets in terms of fast, convenient comfort food. Plus: They offered a great selection of hot sauces - from a squirt bottle labeled "hot sauce" to sriracha to simbalak! Quick service makes it appropriate for the busy bees in RTP and surrounding areas. Also, highly recommend the pickles. Cold, crunchy, tangy! Great compliments to the main dish. Yay, another awesome lunch option that I am adding to my list! I'm almost thankful I don't work at this office location often, or I would be coming here weekly! I was within walking distance to Teriyakin' so I figured I would give The Brunch Box a rest and try this place out. I was sad to see they didn't have a website as www.teriyakin.com just redirects to this Yelp page. Thankfully my fellow Yelpers posted a very helpful picture of their menu. I went with The Works Plate (chicken, steak and short rib combo plate) as some of the reviews mentioned the other sizes and bowls weren't filling. I ordered before the noon rush hour and was told that my order would only take 5-10 minutes-wow! I strolled over around 11:30 AM, and there were only about 2 others dining in at the time. They have little to-go cups for sauce--limit 2 per order--of the Teriyaki, Yum Yum and White sauce. Make sure you ask the employees which is which...I stood there confused for awhile looking between the sauce options since there aren't labels. As soon as I opened the container, the yummy smell of grilled meat filled my office. Several coworkers came by to stare at the pile of meat on my desk. Indeed, it looked like quite a hearty portion for lunch. There is already teriyaki sauce drizzled on the meat and rice, but it also came with a little container of a white ginger sauce which was delicious when I dipped the meat in it. I was definitely stuffed when I finished, but it was so delicious I overate. Only small complaint was that there was plenty of chicken and steak, but only 2 pieces of short rib. Also, the plates come with macaroni salad or boiled broccoli, teriyakin salad and orange slice. I think the background noise was too loud, or maybe I said yes to macaroni salad twice, but I got 2 portions of the macaroni instead of the teriyakin salad. No complaints though--the macaroni salad tasted decent, but average. I am dying to try their Okonomiyaki, but sadly it is only available for their dinner menu after 5 PM. The Bowls and Plates menu undoubtedly will keep me busy for awhile! read more
