I was craving katsu chicken and immediately thought of this place that I had seen in Morgan Street Food Hall and came for lunch. I believe The Katsu and The Bowls next door are sister restaurants, because you order at The Bowls. All the staff were friendly, the prices were fair, and the food came out piping hot and within 10 minutes. The katsu chicken was SO good- so flavorful, juicy, and crispy. I got it over noodles but wish I just got the sandwich because the noodles were a little tangy and way too much of it with not much veggies or anything for it to be spectacular. This place is in Morgan hall eatery. I came to order a katsu burger to go and found out you don't order katsu sandwiches where it says "the katsu", but next door at "the bowls". The worker at the katsu side said to order on the bowls side, but the bowls side was closed. I was confused because it was 12pm on a weekday and online, it said it was open. All the staff was there but the worker said it was closed. Then, a few minutes after, they opened. I wish the worker told me they were going to open soon or something, because I was trying to figure out what else to order. Ordering was easy once that was sorted out and the california katsu sandwich ($15) was ready within 5 minutes. It's a big sandwich, easy to share if you're not too hungry. It came with homemade chips that were crunchy and delicious like kettle cooked chips but unseasoned. The sandwich felt fresh with the Cole slaw and pickles. Lots of east Asian flavors with the sweet chili sauce and cilantro. The katsu was crunchy and the neat was tender. My bf saud he would have preferred a little more sauce. I came here in search of their delicious looking katsu sandwich featured on the Morgan Street Food Hall website, and came across two food stalls - the Katsu and the Bowls. The katsu sandwiches are actually on the Bowls side, but I think they're run by the same owner. Wanting to give this a try, I ordered a classic katsu sandwich and was impressed by the portions - an oversized chicken fillet on a large brioche bun with a generous amount of toppings and a side of fried potato chips. A bit unfortunately, my katsu was a bit tough so I'm giving this place four stars, not five. But I'll definitely be back to try one of the other specialty katsu sandwiches in the future. read more

God have mercy on your wallet if you want to modify your order at all. +$2 to make it spicy and +$3 just for extra noodles. I went to this place after a lot of search for "Katsu chicken" sandwich . It tasted nothing like "katsu". It was a regular fried chicken with whole lot of grated cabbage. They added Kimchi, but the flavor is barely noticeable. Not enough sauce added to give katsu flavor. There is fried egg, which is plus. Overall, it doesn't meet the Katsu flavored sandwich expectations. Could have been better to be authentic. No complaints about service. I was sold on the California chicken katsu sandwich which had avocado, pickles, tomatoes, crunchy cole slaw and some kind of delicious sauce. The Katsu has been a long time favorite of ours. the staff is always nice and food ready pretty fast. The California Katsu sandwich is typically our favorite go to. But i think they have recently changed the chicken used in the sandwiches or changed the preparation of the chicken. They used to be thick and super juicy and now they are much flatter and very dry- such that when you take your bites- the chicken is actually difficult to bite through- which ends up making your meal a bit messy. the rest of the ingredients of the sandwich are still top notch but the chicken is supposed to be the star of the show. please please go back to the original chicken!!! read more

The Katsu is easily my favorite place in the Morgan St. food hall. I always finish this meal so satisfied. I decided to try the California Katsu and I was not disappointed (as usual). The California Katsu has chicken katsu, cabbage cole slaw, avocado, pickles and a delicious sweet chili sauce. I am a sucker for a good sweet chili sauce, so this was right up my alley! The sandwich itself was so delicious that I was easily able to get over how messy it was. Make sure to get a lot of napkins when you eat here because you will need them! My hands were covered in sauce and greasy goodness by the end of the meal. But I promise you, the sweet chili sauce makes it all worth it. The flavors complimented each other so well. My only complaint is the chips. They were very bland and I didn't have any sauce to dip them in. Next time I would ask for a side of sweet chili sauce to dip them in, because that seems like it would be so good. I think the katsu is a great addition to Morgan Street Food Hall and has a lot of potential. The took over the spot that the broth was in, guessing the broth just fused into the bowl. We got the teriyaki chicken sandwich and while the flavor was good the sandwich was cold, like not room temperature, legit cold. I wanted to return it, but my husband was too hungry to wait for another one. The sandwich itself was huge and had a hefty piece of fried chicken on there. The sauce was also tasty. They had the most diverse and interesting menu of places in there and i chose a chicken sandwich with sweet chili sauce, avocado, and some sort of lettuce or something on top of it. It also came with a heaping side of fries. While the sandwich was good, the chicken wasn't particularly great and was the weakest link in the whole sandwich. The bun, sauce, avocado and grass or whatever was on top of it could have been a delicious meal in itself. I loved this place! Huge sandwich for a great price. I got the California Katsu burger which came with the chicken cutlet and was topped with avocado among other things. Very large portion (not to mention all the fries) for just $11. No temperature issues with my meal (everything was piping hot) and the food also came out quickly. Came with friends on a Sunday night and stumbled across this booth which replaced the ramen shop. The display meals looked delicious and also had large servings. The actual meal was the same size and very filling. I can eat alot and was full after this burger. The fries were thin and simply seasoned but still crunchy. They're similar to McDonald's fries in size. The burger was massive. The kastu chicken portion was much bigger than the bun and had a good sauce -to- surface area ratio. The slaw on top was delicious and I added an egg. Since it was so big, it was a bit messy to eat but that's not an issue to me! Overall the flavors, textures, and sauces paired very well together and it was for a very decent price. $14 after tax and that includes the egg. The katsu is famous between me and my friends. This big humongous sandwich is hard to tackle at first, but once you start, you won't want to stop. The flavors are literally immaculate and it is a thin Panko fried chicken patty, so it doesn't weigh you down like a burger.
