The food was fresh, batter was perfectly seasoned and crisp and the fish was soft and tender. It was good and possibly better than any fish and chips I had in the UK. The chips were also nice and crisp on the outside and fluffy inside. Service was very nice. The food definitely leaves you wanting more. I wish I had ordered more so I could be eating it now. I'll definitely be back! (FYI: I ordered the lunch portion which comes with one piece of fish. Also there's a 3% credit card fee.)

I settled on the special lobster carbonara (which I think was $75). Good, but overpriced. My husband had the filet mignon - it was cooked as requested but we prefer more seasoning. A friend passed her grilled scallops over to us to finish - I took one bite and it tasted like ammonia. I discreetly spat it out. For her sake, I hope the rest didn't taste like that. The atmosphere was loud and hard to have conversations. They did a conga line around the restaurant later in the evening. Not really my scene. Service was slow and it didn't seem like they could handle big groups, even when split up. We ended up staying here for about 3 hours. We ended up leaving before we were even offered dessert. What wasn't as enjoyable and overdone was the rigatoni. The orrechiette with broccoli rabe and sausage was fine but needed healthy sprinkle of cheese for flavor. We brought our own birthday cake from Gencarellis in nearby Bloomfield which was appreciated and ordered some cappuccino and espresso. They already included a 20% gratuity in the bill which was fine for a large party but based on the actual service felt like overtipping.

For dinner, most of the crew went with either the Veal Parm or Chicken Parm. A nice touch is that they'll do the parm with vodka sauce if you want to switch things up. I went with the steak special and had absolutely no regrets. Dessert was on point too, but I'll leave a little something to your imagination. Great food, great service, great old school atmosphere, and exactly the kind of Italian restaurant I'm always looking to discover. Matthew's is officially on our list now.
