We did a complete redo of our backyard. It was ugly, falling apart, and not a safe place to walk around, so we never used it. Juliana's vision is that your backyard should be an extension of your home, another room. Working with Juliana was wonderful. She listened to our ideas and came up with an initial plan that we tweaked a couple times until we had a final design . It is now a space we are drawn to and use often. It truly is an extension of our home. Juliana and Mauricio (who she works with on the hardscape) did a wonderful job in transforming our yard. Communication with her was excellent. She stayed on budget and the only work order changes were a result of our wanting something different from the original plans. She has a great knowledge of plants and design. Charged $250 just to come to our house and have a conversation. This was not revealed before we had the conversation, we got the bill after. We did not proceed with developing plans, but the verbal estimate to get the work done was going to be $70-100K. We will be spending $30-50K with a different landscaper. So my perception is that Terra Rubina is very expensive. For the $250 bill, I tried to pay by Venmo. Venmo required last 4 digits of phone number in order to process the payment. I emailed asking for the last 4 digits of their phone number and did not hear back, so I didn't pay. Two weeks later I received a very rude and confrontational email hounding me for payment and threatening a late fee. I have seen back yards done by Terra Rubina. They are beautiful. If you want high quality work, and don't mind being bullied, and you're willing to pay a steep price, then maybe Terra Rubina is for you. They're not for me. read more

We're so glad to have found Juliana via a referral from our insurance agent! After meeting with a couple of other designers who either wanted to completely redo our front/rear yards or were super expensive (one company had a minimum job fee of $15,000!!) our plans to fine tune the back yard & redo the front yard had been put on hold. After a young driver in a big pick up truck plowed through our front yard on a rainy day, the search was on again to redo the front yard in a way that would also provide some sort of safety barrier. Juliana came to the rescue with incredibly artistic & creative designs for the front & rear yards. For the front yard, with the use of metal gabion boxes filled with large rocks, they will provide a structural safety barrier while also looking artistic (pictures to follow once they're installed). She also has vast knowledge of unique plants which will complement our Spanish style home. For the rear yard she came up with great solutions for helping us incorporate more seating & more privacy by changing a few layout features as well as supplementing existing bamboo & plants. Our other design challenge with the back yard which Juliana creatively solved: We have dogs who are tormented by squirrels running up & down our redwood tree. In an effort to keep our dogs from climbing & chewing the tree we've had a makeshift wooden barrier at the base of the tree which is none too attractive. Juliana is going to build a wood surround to protect the tree but which also adds an interesting design element to the yard. I wish we'd had the foresight to hire a designer from the get go rather then doing bits & pieces on our own only to redo our work since it didn't quite deliver. It is money well spent to hire a designer. Either way, thanks to Juliana we're super excited to get our yards projects implemented! read more

Juliana was very pleasant to work with during our rebuild. She seemed to be honest and wanted to help with all of our hardscape and landscape. We were happy with the finished work. We moved into our new home and within a few months, we had sinking spots in our bluestone patio, drainage issues in our paver driveway, drain issues in our front planter bed, and tons of problems with irrigation. Juliana and her team came back a couple of times to work on the irrigation.After trying to fix the system, we continued to have problems with our yard dying and plants not thriving. Eventually, Juliana found out that the irrigation control system that she had installed in our garage was a bad unit. She replaced some of the plants herself. We decided to go to a sprinkler system instead of the drip system so that we could actually see what was getting watered. Juliana passed on that cost to me. We also had to replace the grass again and she passed that cost on to me. I called her back again about the hard scape issues. She told me that it was nothing personal, but that she no longer wanted to work on our property. She said that she felt she had to keep coming back for free. I expressed to her that we had spent a ton of money, so I did not feel as though she was coming back "for free." Her work is beautiful And maybe a smaller scale project would be without flaw, but I would not recommend her company for a large scale project. read more

Juliana has been a fantastic find. We have a VERY large 90lb dog who is extremely hard on our garden. We wanted to find a solution other than filling in our whole yard with big clunky raised beds, as we're in the city and space is already limited. Juliana came up with a great plan to mix dog-friendly grasses and shrubs with more delicate items in containers, and installed everything including the drip irrigation for our yard, all while respecting our budget. Now, even when our giant dog has a "zoomie" and runs around our entire yard like a possessed monster, he doesn't damage our plantings and we can all enjoy ourselves! On another occasion a few months after the original install, I called Juliana back to help me choose a couple more trees and potted plants. I'm someone who loves going to the nursery, but gets easily overwhelmed with all the choices. Juliana came with me, listened to what I needed, made suggestions based on what would thrive in our garden, and we returned in just an hour with 2 gorgeous trees! She came back just one day later to plant them and extend our drip system to deliver just the right amount of water. Juliana is our landscaper of choice now and we'll continue to call her for whatever edits, improvements, or renovations we need in our city garden. We contacted Terra Rubina after seeing her signs in some very nice looking yards in our neighborhood. Juliana was (and still is) great to work with. We had an outdoor space that had to be completely reimagined - floor, fences, gates, planting etc. Juliana was extremely flexible in finding a solution that fit within our budget. Step by step we converted a previously non-usable area into an outdoor oasis that we are looking forward to fully taking advantage of this spring and summer. Juliana understood our needs to come up with a planting plan that is low maintenance. She was also always very honest on what investments make sense now vs. what we should first have 'grow' on us before we make further decisions. Juliana was also a great help as we discovered a leak in our watering system and she was able to quickly come by and fix it. Juliana is the best ever! I had put off doing my front yard landscaping project because I was a bit overwhelmed and uncertain what I really wanted. My yard was in poor shape and I had a cracked up driveway. Further, I have a very large magnolia tree, which needed to be incorporated. Juliana designed a truly beautiful yard for me. It still makes me happy when I drive up to my home. Juliana was an ease to work with every step of the way. She listened to what I liked (and didn't) and helped me through the entire process. She has excellent ideas based on her years of experience and is extremely professional and friendly. Juliana made suggestions I didn't even consider - like widening my driveway and walkway. She has a very calming presence, yet definitely puts love and passion in her designs, with an incredibly strong work ethic.
