I had one of the specials of the day and I am glad I ordered when I did because shortly after I got my order I heard a waitress say they had run out of the country steak and rice. I had collards and field peas with my sweet tea. A basket of biscuits and hush puppies with jelly snd butter was brought before my food. Everything I had was delicious. They were very busy so I didn't get checked on, which happens a lot when you dine alone. I would have liked more tea and another biscuit. I did manage to get a to go box as she served the table next to me. Still the cute country theme. One thing I noticed this time was the outdoor seating. I don't remember seeing it before. Another new thing is an additional charge that said consumer choice. What in the world is that? Hopefully when I return next time I will have someone with me and get more attention.

I dined at Flask & Beaker twice during my stay at StateView Hotel. The restaurant is located inside…read morethe hotel and has inside and outside seating on the patio. It also appeared that they opened the glass garage door feature for a more open feel. At dinner, the lighting was very dim. There was a small light on each table that I tried moving to better view the menu, and I needed the flashlight on my phone, too. I'd rather be able to see than have the dim lighting. The theme of the restaurant is a farm-to-table restaurant with a chemistry/physics theme. There are beakers for decor. The menu has appetizers as Experimental Sharables, soups and salads, Lab Coats & Ladle, entrees as Main Reactions, sandwiches as Handheld Creations, and desserts, A Final Experiment. My waitress was friendly and gave me time to look over the menu. I went with the Rocket Fuel Punch, the Atomic Braised Short Rib, and for dessert the Gravity Shift Cake. All the dishes were a work of art, from the presentation to the taste. The short rib came with garlic mashed potatoes, carrots and broccoli. I loved that my drink came out in a beaker, and the pineapple and cherries made it fun. The cake was chocolate with flan, but the order in which it is done defies gravity. It was really neat to look at and fun to eat. Breakfast was not as good. My voucher was for the buffet, but I wanted to order from the menu and was told I could just order the two-egg option. I was told I could special-order items. I just heard eggs and waffles, so I did that and made some oatmeal. I missed that cheese omelets were included. The other options included scrambled eggs, potatoes, bacon, fruits and breads and pastries. The oatmeal didn't have many options for toppings, so I added the fruit. The waffle didn't taste like anything, but the eggs were ok. 5 stars for dinner but just 3 stars for breakfast.

Ever been so full but the food is so good you don't want to stop? Yup, that was me! They even offer a kids menu, food is also available to order to your room if you're staying on property. If it's a beautiful day, I'd definitely recommend sitting outside instead. Still, the inside has a cozy, laid-back feel that works well. Shoutout to Qua, who was both the hostess and our server. She was welcoming, attentive, and handled everything smoothly, even as a few more parties came in while she was the only one serving at the time. One thing I really appreciated was that she let us know upfront what items were out of stock before we even looked at the menu. That level of transparency is huge and makes the experience so much better. My son ordered a slider with fries from the kids' menu. It comes with just one slider, so I ordered a second, definitely the right call. He enjoyed it, and the fries were cooked well, just a little on the salty side for our taste (ketchup helped balance that out). I had the shrimp tacos. It's packed and perfect portion for lunch. The shrimp, pineapple slaw, and chipotle mayo was a nice mix. The restaurant was clean (including the bathrooms). The location is also a plus, super close to the Art Museum, which makes it a great stop before or after visiting. Overall enjoyable, and I'd come back, especially to try more of the menu and the drinks.

We showed up early with our 1.5 year old daughter and they were able to seat us immediately. The area felt spacious, although that could be due to the fact that it wasn't super packed inside. I ordered the short rib benedict, my husband got the chicken & waffle sandwich, and we ordered my daughter a side of the mac & cheese. What a delicious meal! The short rib was tender and flavorful, and sat on top of a biscuit (what's not to love here?!) - horseradish hollandaise was the perfect touch as the horseradish pairs nicely with the beef. The chicken & waffle sandwich was the best guilty pleasure! Waffle crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside, chicken breaded and fried with a nice crunch, and a nice hot honey syrup to go alongside -- wish this had a little more heat. To our surprise, the mac & cheese side was a highlight too! It's hard to get a good mac n cheese, but this had such a rich, white cheese, slight funk flavor - delicious. Brunch at Parkside is delicious. Looking forward to trying dinner here soon.

We came in today with reasonable expectations after finding the restaurant online and seeing mostly positive reviews. We ordered several items to share as a family: broccoli cheddar soup, a French dip sandwich with green beans, and poutine fries. Unfortunately, the broccoli cheddar soup was very bland and lacked seasoning. We had a few bites and ended up leaving the rest. The French dip was the standout of the meal. While the meat itself was a bit dry, dipping it in the au jus made it the most enjoyable and edible item we ordered. The poutine fries were disappointing. They were very basic and didn't resemble what I would expect from poutine--more like prepackaged frozen fries that had been deep-fried. We didn't finish them and left most behind, though we still paid for them. Our child wouldn't eat any of the food, so we ordered the fried ravioli appetizer, hoping it would be similar to versions we've had elsewhere. Sadly, that was another letdown. Although we were told there was no breading, the texture suggested otherwise. This was the one item we did send back. I wouldn't recommend this location for anyone with food allergies or sensitivities, as much of the food appears to be made from frozen or prepackaged items. That said, our server was absolutely wonderful--the highlight of the visit. She was kind, attentive, kept our drinks refilled, and genuinely made us feel welcome. Her sweet demeanor and constant smile were honestly the reason we didn't complain more at the time. While I wouldn't return for the food, I might consider stopping by again strictly for drinks during a sporting event. Otherwise, this just wasn't the dining experience we were hoping for.

We all shared an order of fries for the table, which were amazing. Then I got the grain bowl with shrimp, and everything was perfectly prepared and delicious. My husband enjoyed his biscuits and gravy with fried chicken- so tender and decedent. Our friends enjoyed their meal, too, and enjoyed the apple custard for dessert. The mocktails were also delicious- I loved one with hibiscus and ginger. So nice to have a bunch of mocktail options! The ambiance was just as great as it was 8 years ago- spacious and light. The server was great, and let us linger for a few hours without hovering. Hope to be back sooner than another 8 years from now!

Seriously, if you can't find a pour you like here, you may just need water instead. Started with the biscuits topped with crackling and house-made preserves, and honestly, that combo alone made me question why I don't eat more biscuits in life. Sweet, salty, buttery chaos in the best way. For the main, I went with the pork chop and greens. The chop leaned a little overcooked for me personally, but the sauce helped bring things back together and added good flavor. The greens had a nice little kick of heat, but I kept waiting for that deep smoky ham hock flavor to show up like an old Southern grandma entering the kitchen... and it never quite arrived. Overall though? Still a solid meal, strong whiskey program, cool atmosphere, and definitely worth checking out if you're in Raleigh looking for a bourbon-forward dinner spot. Travelin_Broke approved with a slight side-eye from the greens.
