Grouper with coco sauce and a side of beans and rice.

I had the grouper with the savory Coco sauce and it was out of this world. I will definitely be back, especially since it's right across the street from where I live.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND. We had the fried whole snapped it was excellent!! Also the beef empanadas were amazing. Great service and friendly. Inside the bar was playing Pickleball on the tv at the bar and we got to watch the finals.

This place gets pretty busy but the food and service was great! I got the fried red snapper, you get to pick your own fish so the price varies on weight but it was delicious. I also got the el cayo addition but wasn't a big fan of the taste. We also got the ceviche coctel and it was delicious as well. Would definitely return to get more seafood but i will say prices are on the higher side imo.

These shrimp and sweet potato things were tasty!

Great food, fun ambience, and decent service. We enjoyed our dining experience. If you want authentic food, this is a place to try!

    Garlic Shrimp Mofongo

Mofongo, empanadas, cod fritters and fried cheese with guava are dishes from Puerto Rico that I really wanted to try. We ordered a total of 6 dishes and drinks. The prices were affordable compared to dishes you get at MesaPuertoRico and portions bigger. We also tried the flan and tres leches. Very small 'one person' portions but that's all you need. Service was quick and dining was casual. Great place to stop after sightseeing.

Initially wanted to bring my friend to Raices Restaurant but it was packed and the wait time was 40 minutes. It was a rainy night so we decided to try Cayo Caribe which is located nearby and so glad we did! Cayo Caribe despite being busy too they were able to get us a table right away. They were very accommodating and I'm thankful for that. The server had the best humor and super friendly. She teased us about getting the whole Puerto Rican experience meaning the rain and winds due to Hurricane Erin. Great atmosphere casual and fun. The food was amazing! We had the Asopao de Mariscos/Seafood. Great flavor and seasoned perfectly. Had big chunks of octopus, calamari, fish and jumbo shrimp. Really good generous portion for the price. We got tostones and salad with it. For dessert we had to try the Tembleque. Make sure you don't share as this dessert is sooo good you might want to get your own. Best tembleque it reminded me of the one my grandma used to make. This was a great choice and food was amazing. Will come next time I'm in PR and also recommend anytime.

Word of mouth is faster that you think . I'm in San Juan for 2 days to catch a cruise on Saturday. Talking with the uber driver on way to my hotel . I just ask some random question. A good place to eat . Cayo Caribe .Well , I truly believe that uber guy . There's a lot to Try . Get Their Tacos . Worthy . Their Ceviche. What else can I complain about.. love it.. after glancing on the next table is the special of the day . Yes we ordered a lot . But never regretted . Nadya the sever was extremely patient with us and constantly checking. Yes Highly recommended

    Beef paella

Another tour guide recommendation. Sat at bar and asked for recommendation for dish they take most pride in. He told me beef paella. It's not bad, not comparable to what I had in Spain just a couple weeks earlier and for some reason had dry chicken breast in addition to the tender beef that I picked off. I bet the seafood menu is better but I went with server recommendation.

This Cayo Caribe is smack in the middle of Old San Juan tourist zone. There are several other locations around Puerto Rico. This location is upstairs and has a large bar surrounded by dining tables. While it wasn't our first choice for dinner, with many restaurants in the vicinity closed early on a Friday night, we enjoyed it! The Los Montaditos con Spicy Crab clusters were unique with deep fried plantains "spiders" and tasty. Max S and I shared a Whole Fried Snapper which was very good. I was afraid it would be overcooked but it was delicious. To top it off, they had my favorite Cakebread Napa Valley Chardonnay. I was shocked it was in San Juan when it's almost always sold out, or restaurants don't include it on their wine list in Fort Lauderdale. Perfect with fish! Service was good. We'd come back again.

Meh- this place was okay but not great. It has a great vibe and an expansive menu but overall the food was pretty lackluster. Our server Robert was very pleasant, but it took a long time for our orders to be delivered despite his promptness. My husband and in laws got the fish tacos which were okay. I got the coconut grouper which had potential but was just.... okay. There was very little seasoning. There a good many vegetarian options but I was pretty disappointed with the veggie arepita which was only steamed, unseasoned veggies in a pastry. My kids' empanadillas were pretty good, but not the best we've had this trip. All in all....it was fine. It won't break the bank which is a plus but there are better restaurants on the area like BARRACHINA, Cafe El Punto, St. Germain, or Mesa Verde.

This place was recommended multiple times to me and I had to try it out. I was thoroughly impressed with the red snapper and rice & peas. Everything was delicious but that red snapper is the show stopper-- it was magnificent! They had indoor and outdoor seating available. The service was excellent and I should've went back for seconds.

    Best empanadas ever!
    Tahja P.

Everything was extremely fresh and delicious! Cruising from the east coast and this was a recommended spot for lunch by our tour guide. Calamari, empanadas, crab rice and shrimp and fish tacos were all WINNERS!! Gianna was an amazing hostess and gave top tier customer service! It is a cool vibe with a nice bar. We lucked up and hit them up during happy hour! Couldn't BEAT the 4 dollar Absolut cocktails!! Will be flying back and definitely visiting again!

On our most recent vacation, we finally had the chance to experience it for ourselves, and it did not disappoint. The moment you walk in, it feels like you have stepped back in time. The old school dining room is simple and no frills, with basic tables and chairs lined throughout the space, but that is exactly what gives the place so much character and authenticity. It feels like a true piece of old Puerto Rico. And then there is the food. Absolutely delicious, authentic, traditional Puerto Rican cooking. Our family shared the Bistec Encebollado, Carne Guisada, Chuletas Fritas, tostones, white rice and beans, and arroz con gandules. We started with Alcapurrias and Pastelillos de Carne, and everything was packed with flavor. The portions may be a little smaller than what some people are used to, but the prices are very reasonable, which makes it easy to order several dishes and share everything family style. For me, this was more than just a meal. It was finally getting to experience a place I had heard about for most of my life, surrounded by family and enjoying the kind of traditional Puerto Rican food I was hoping for. AMAZING! I didnt see if she was walking around doing this, or she just did it for us. Everything was amazing and it was a hard choice to narrow down and decide what to order. I decided on the carne guisada, which is basically beef stew it came with rice and beans, chefs kiss!!! AMAZING flavor, the meat was so tender. Everything else everyone ordered was so good, hands down the best food we ate on our whole vacation, and we ate great food! Since I've always seen the long lines outside this store when I passed by, we decided that we try to go in as soon as it opened. So, we lined up around 11:30am. We barely waited much and we got seated. The server that day was quick/efficient/friendly despite the fact that she was running a one woman show. And the food arrived within a decent time. My friends and I decided to order the PUERTO RICAN PLATTER with a side of a side salad. This platter comes with everything you could want & maybe something that might be a bit adventurous for you to eat like blood sausage. Despite that, it's a nice platter to share and try a bit of everything. It's really nice that if you order for 4 people, they give you exactly the amount of pieces that are divisible by 4 (so everyone can try 1-2 pieces of each thing evenly). It also comes with a decent amount of rice/pork as a supplementation, which was nice. It's a balanced meal. And I think the side salad did well to balance out all the fried foods. Overall, we really enjoyed this place. It's a great place to come with friends/families to share. It's a great place as a visitor to try a bit of everything. The platter is a great introduction of puerto rican fried finger foods. And it all taste great! From the presentation of the food to the service here, it's all good. I would recommend this place to others.

Well good news, the food is still good! I stopped in during the festival of San Sebastian and the restaurant was packed! We luckily got a seat for two and were able to order right away. I order the mofongo de pollo and my friend ordered a different meal with a soup. I am not going to lie, the service was extremely slow and the food took about 30 to 40 mins maybe to come out. I expect this was because of the festival and how busy the restaurant was. When the food came out, it was delicious! The chicken was great and drenched in a salsa criolla sauce. It was definitely worth the wait! After my meal, I ordered a coffee to digest the food. Luckily this didn't take as long as the food. Unfortunately, the appetizer we ordered was just awful. We ordered a mix of very traditional Puerto Rican bites-small alcapurrias, sorrullos, chicharrónes de pollo and some fried cheese. There was absolutely nothing good about the mix. The alcapurrias has no meat whatsoever, the chicharrónes were not crispy and the cheese was just awful. I wanted to give them a 1star review but I felt this would not be fair because we did not try an entree and I hope that would be better. The 3star was because the service was good. In addition to the service later on in the evening they had live music which was essentially old traditional Puerto Rican music which was excellent. So to be fair I thought a 3 star review would be the right thing to do. Hopefully the entrees are much better just stay away from the surtido appetizer because it was not good.
