Came here on a Tuesday night and was really surprised at the atmosphere of the place. It had a Barcelona-esque feel to it as it was sort of open air, warm weather, and they had live music. Plus our group of about 6 took over one of the cabanas which were SO comfortable. I honestly could've fallen asleep on them. We were here for Mother's Day brunch and I have to say that it was the worst experience we've had for the amount of money this establishment charged. The ambience is amazing but the food they serve is simply trash. For example: On their brunch menu it said $125/person. In that each person can choose their dishes off of a fixed and barebones menu. At the very top it said Oysters were part of the starter menu. We were 3 people and they served 3 Oysters! 1 each. The drink ordered came after 20 minutes with the person waiting on our table saying, "I have reminded the bartender 3 times."Now, we get that it can get fairly busy on Mother's Day but then you're running a supposedly high end restaurant charging people an arm and a leg for below par food and mediocre service. The wait for the valet to get our car was close to 40 minutes! They kept taking more people when they could have stopped and focused on the ones on hand. I don't think we're ever going back here. I absolutely LOVE this hotel lounge! It is so luxurious and opulent! I've come here on many occasion to grab a drink, meet a friend or just get some writing done. During the week it is usually fairly mellow with lots of options for seating. They also pour strong drinks-doubles in fact! Which is nice, because you are almost paying double. But the ambiance is worth it regardless. I have a special mention for their reservation only cabanas. I spent my birthday here in January and had a great time with about twelve friends gathering, drinking and playing Cards Against Humanity. Really fun birthday celebration. I was pleased with all my arrangements and the lounge staff were very accommodating in all my requests. I ended up ordering the cheese selection plate and a fruit plate and my guests loved it! We also had a couple of pizzas and they were actually quite light and crispy and delicious! The French Margarita is strong! They will also make you something original if you ask which resulted in some kind of spicy blueberry concoction that was very unique but probably won't make it on any cocktail menus anytime soon! My only complaint was my server for the night. It was a Tuesday and the place wasn't busy at all. My group was the largest party there. Our server just didn't come around often. She didn't take orders as guest arrived for drinks and we had to clear our own table a couple of times to make room for card games, presents, etc. She was nice when she did come by, it just left a lot to be desired in terms of being told I had a server for the night as a result of reserving the cabana with a minimum dollar amount. Other than that, if you want a place to celebrate something, the cabanas here are great. As of this wring (Jan 2017) they have no time minimum and at a $250 minimum in food or drink, it's easy to meet granted you have some guests that will eat and drink a bit. I also ordered fifteen cupcakes from the restaurant here in advance. They were delicious! White frosting, rainbow sprinkles and red velvet cake! Love the ambiance here, it's pretty much the entire reason I come here. The first time I came here with my mom we were looking for wedding venues and considering the hotel as a potential venue. Well I didn't end up getting married here but I fell in love with the view of the restaurant. I've only been here twice and both times were on a Monday early in the day so it was fairly empty. Perfect time to get the tables right by the window. I can imagine that it probably get very packed here on the weekends though. The only thing I've ever ordered from here is the lobster club. It's a bit on the pricey side but well worth it. They're fries are really good too. My mom is definitely a fan as she always talks about wanting to return here. Service is good but then again it's never been too busy when we've been here. They give you two hours parking validation as well, always a plus. Will be back to enjoy the view and yummy lobster club and perfectly crispy fries. read more

When we saw the restaurant in this nice Hotel Casa Del Mar while we were walking at Santa Monica beach, we thought it would be nice to dine in a place that we could enjoy sunset also. We were glad that we made the reservation and came to Terrazza. We were able to accomplish what we set to come for. Wow, well I personally had a great experience.... On a whim, the hubby and I decided to pop in for a relaxing lunch together... we got married at this hotel, so we were really excited to try out this new eatery! When we walked up, we were greeted by the host, a snazzy dressed older gentleman with colored shades, seriously this older guy had some style..... And although we didn't have a "reservation" we were warmly welcomed and promptly seated at one of the best tables in the restaurant. The oceanfront view was absolutely breathtaking and the ambience was quiet and romantic.. After perusing the lunch menu, we opted to just get an order of bruschetta (which I can never seem to pass up) and split an order of their mushroom pizza. To start: The bruschetta: a good portion size of ciabatta bread, grilled and cut to about 5 large pieces, with each slice topped a generous dollop of burrata, half-melted from the heat of the grill marks, soft and slightly-sweet slow roasted tomatoes, arugula/microgreens and a tasty salsa verde.. all served with a drizzle of REALLY GOOD olive oil on top... now with all these high quality ingredients, from the ooey-gooey, deliciously creamy burrata cheese to the sweet caramelization to the tomatoes, it all melts in your mouth... i can easily say, this was one of the best bruschettas I've had in LA. Honestly, i REALLY enjoyed it and i would definitely order this again.. Next up: Funghi pizza: We decided to split an order of this pizza based on their photos available on YELP... I wish I had taken my OWN pictures, but my cell phone ran outta battery after I sat down! Doh!! Moving on, when the pizza arrived, you could tell it was toasty! The pizza is thin crust, served with a heaping amount of nutty roasted mushrooms, burrata cheese and sage.. no tomato sauce here, but trust me, it didn't need it! Service: Heres a shout out to our server, Francisco, who provided wonderful service. Our water glasses were never empty and he was the one who actually recommended the bruschetta in the first place.. this guy obviously has good taste. I came here on a Friday afternoon for a "work meeting." We had a reservation so we were seated immediately. I was immediately drawn to the 10 foot Fiddleleaf figs and the floor to ceiling glass window panels providing a peekaboo view of the carnival on the Santa Monica pier. It's a great venue for a baby shower, birthday, or casual lunch with friends. I'm definitely celebrating my 29th birthday here next year!! Do yourself a favor and if you ever come here, order the bucatini pomodoro. Absolutely divine yet so simple and the highlight of this restaurant. The pizzas are also pretty tasty. We ordered the mushroom and margarita pizzas and both were pretty good. The kale salad was also phenomenal. The reason the restaurant only gets four stars is because there's no "munchies" when you sit down and the desserts were lacking. Given that this place is so high end, we expected to get a bread basket or something to nibble on especially since the food seemed like it took forever to come out. But we didn't - even after asking for some bread. Re: the deserts: We ordered the cookie sampler with a hot chocolate shooter after the waiter told us that the cookies would be soft - they were most definitely not. They were crunchy. Ugh. Also, the hot chocolate was cold and tasted nothing like hot chocolate. Like literally had no resemblance to hot chocolate at all. I'm still curious to know what it was. We also had the pistachio cake which was a little dry. Overall, I would still come again and just ask for munchies and avoid the desserts. I still had a wonderful time. My brother and husband brought me here one night after telling them I had just finished a particularly hard day at work. It was one of the best meals of my life! We sat in the reatauraunt area and had the most amazing view! I would have thought the views alone were worth the price but then the drinks came out and after that the food and then after that the desserts and I just couldn't believe how each step would one up the next! The service was outstanding. We need to thank Greg babarovic, the hotel manager for giving us recommendations and really being part of the reason we have kept on coming back. Recently I really enjoy having tea in the mornings overlooking this unbeatable view with my mom. It has become our mother daughter special thing we do. The dinner menu is quite limited. The food is disappointing, mediocre at best. I had a beet salad and added a small piece of salmon which cost $36 for a couple of beets and some frisée. Our server was excellent! But the piece de resistance was parking was $24 with validation and with gratuity cost almost as much as my entree. My wife and I came for happy hour/early dinner recently. I love the interior of the Del Mar- high ceilings, marble floors, big windows. Combine that with the live music and orange glow of sunset and this place is just magical. So.. where does it fall short? Happy Hour- It only lasts until 6pm which is shorter than the norm of 7. Happy Hour Wine- $10 a glass and pretty lackluster. We tried 3: A Riesling, Malbec, and Cab. All of them where just meh. Maybe stick to the $5 beers next time. Parking- 7$ validated. Maybe the only place in LA that charges me to park a motorcycle too. Go figure. Also on the plus side... the mussels app was very good. Our Mushroom pizza was ok... but the mushrooms were slightly overcooked causing them to taste bitter. Service was slightly slow but friendly. All in all... its a nice place to catch a drink. This place is all about views and ambiance. It has plenty of both. From most seats you have great views of the ocean. The restaurant its self and the hotel are also nice to look at. We stopped in for brunch after a stroll down the beach. I ordered the Spanish Omelette. It comes stuffed with chorizo, garlic, espelette and machego. Espelette is a pepper. Of course I had to look that up. The omelette was very good. I love chorizo and combined with manchego it is even better. The potatoes were a nice side. Seemed like a busy night, bustling with people (crowd seemed mostly in their 30+ age range), most seats were full, some couples dancing... as I recall a date took me here for a drink, long ago, and the place was dead (I think it was a Thursday night). We sat at the bar and ordered drinks. I had a glass of Riesling $15 -nothing special, so I can't judge the bartender on his drink making skills. Although, it was a good sized pour for $15 a glass. Sitting at the bar, earns you and your group a free, FRESH bowl of kettle chips to snack on. I'm not fond of "community" food, as I question the general public's cleanliness and frequency of hand-washing, so I appreciated the fresh bowl of kettle chips. read more

The food is delicious let's get that straight. Best cooked octopus I've literally ever had. The view is lovely its right on Santa Monica beach. The service truly rocked our waitress really went above and beyond. The only thing that threw me for a loop was that no cocktail was less than $18 which seems unreal for a drink. Although it was a bit of a maze to find it after entering the hotel lobby (literally 7 signs around many corners and stairways), it was certainly worth this mental and physical effort once seated! Love the layout and ambience here. Seats in the lounge are self seating and a waiter will approach you shortly. I think the decor and live music set the mood for the entire room. You can easily just relax, get a cocktail, and enjoy the beach view. Highly recommend this place! read more

This review is for the Terraza lounge located in Hotel Casa Del Mar. Thank you for ruining our magical 27th anniversary weekend. We flew into LAX last month from Hawaii to stay at Casa Del Mar for our anniversary. The front staff were nice and accommodating & said that we had a $60 breakfast credit each day at Terraza. Our first night. We invited relatives over for a drink, the waitress asked for our Room number but my cousin insisted on paying for it and gave her a credit card. Come to find out they charged the room So why did they take the credit card?! Here is where it went bad. 1st breakfast day was OKAY. Overpriced and slow service but we had our credit. Last day- We still had our $65 breakfast credit and went to check out at 6:40am. Front desk said they didn't open till 7am, so we waited. They opened at 6:58am and we were the 1st one then a family of 4. When the waiter came we ordered the $28 pastrami hash and a $30 Steak and eggs MEDIUM. We told our waiter we needed to catch a plane. 7:18am, still no food or service and the family got served twice. I had to get up run after the waiter , ask for an $8 cappuccino and tell him our Uber is coming . He said the food is on it's way. Keep in mind , there are NO Other guests in the place but us and the family! At 7:25am I asked for the check to hurry things and our food. He apologized and brought the check. Our food came at 7:35am, Steak was black and WELL DONE and my pastrami was burnt to a crisp it was unrecognizable. By this time I was livid! I asked the waiter where is the pastrami, and he points to the little burnt pieces. My husband tells him he ordered his steak medium not well, and we can't eat this, so for 3 minutes the waiter was apologizing, saying he could make another one to go and yelling at the chef. I said we are late and had to run to the front because my Uber had arrived to have him wait. Well because of Terraza's incompetent and poor service I missed my Uber ride twice and Uber charged me a $10 no show fee!! We lost out on our $65 credit, a $10 Uber fee, and had to spend $45 at the airport for food because we were starving from not eating all morning! I emailed the GM to call me back and did their survey with no response. Needless to say , I am very disappointed in Casa Del Mar in Santa Monica and their Terraza lounge. One positive thing I can say is that it is a beautiful hotel and lounge area and you can watch spectacular sunsets, but service is important, especially with their pricing and reputation read more
