Atmosphere was nice . Parking was good. Easy to find. This is more of a beginner/ kids kinda haunted hayride. There is a story teller in the hayride which is nice and interactive for the audience in the tractor. Wish that they had a little more scary like chainsaw noise, light up the dead bodies with a red or colored light to set the mood to make it more visible and creepy. Just needs a little more tweaking but it is still fun and entertaining for a one time event.

Our first sentiments were that we didn't feel welcomed. We had a group of four (all of us business aged 45-50) and we kept getting asked to move by staff several times. All while not feeling like they were being helpful at all. It just felt childish and I was even second-guessing going in. Three different staff members asked to see our tickets. Rules were repeated to us a total of three times. Now for the haunt - it was stifling hot inside the building through the whole maze / so much that I was getting dizzy and my friends couldn't wait for it to be over just to get back into a breeze.. The sets were detailed but it was a lot of similar themes going on in many of the rooms - it lacked some imagination in favor of just medical gore scenes. There was fog in areas that were too heavy to even enjoy what was coming at us - and that fog landed in many rooms. The end of the maze that leads into the retail exit was abrupt - there was no grand finale moment. Overall, not much stood out as very interesting or outstanding. (Exception: the subway cars) Go if you are a huge fan of haunts and Halloween. But if you only go to one haunt each year, this isn't the one.

I wasn't sure what to expect and was worried it would be cheesy, but it was so much fun to go with friends. All the rooms are eerily decorated ranging from macabre to whimsical. There are lots of props you can play with, the staff will warn you about what to avoid. I was impressed with how well the lighting worked with the pictures we took. You can buy your tickets online or there when you arrive. They have time slots on the hour and you'll have a full hour to wander around and have fun taking pictures. We arrived a bit before 7:30, the opening time, so we were some of the first people in line. Nevertheless, it seemed to take forever for us to be shown in because they did not start letting people in until a bit after 7:30 and they were pretty slow letting people in after that. Unlike other haunted houses that I have been to, there were no characters or actors creeping around outside to spook you, so it was a pretty long and boring wait. Before we made it in, I read up on the history of the building itself, since it really was an asylum back in the 70s/80s, and honestly the history is the scariest part of the building because some pretty creepy stuff happened there. When we were about to go inside, we learned that it was a "total blackout" night, meaning that all the lights would be turned off. We were handed glow sticks so that we could find our way through (really probably so the actors inside could see us coming). We finally go inside and I am feeling pretty spooked from the anticipation. The first couple of rooms are elaborately decorated, but really nothing is too scary. As we walked through the entire house, it was sometimes hard to see the decorations themselves since the lights were off, so that may have taken away from the experience. There were only 4 or 5 actors hidden throughout the duration of the haunted house and they did the classic surprise scare tactic, but didn't really say or do anything that was too scary. The actors, however, were mostly just regular people in regular clothes with some face paint. I was honestly expecting them to wear costumes and have more of a character than just general scary person. There were some features inside that I had not experienced in other haunted houses, like the blow up walls and the big loud gusts and wind. Overall, I got a little spooked and I had a fun time, but it would probably not have been worth it. I'm not sad I went, but I wouldnt want to pay full price and I don't think I would go back.

Oct 28 is Emma's Birthday... so Magnolia Hotel decided to open the doors to celebrate! Free tours…read morefrom 10am-2pm! I just happened to see something come through my newsfeed over Fb, I bookmarked it, found my schedule open, so headed east to check it out. Emma likes to play in her room... and who doesn't like to play with little spirits?! I didn't know the history of the Magnolia Hotel so was totally clueless walking in the door... Magnolia Hotel has been on Ghost Adventures on Travel Channel. Also, Magnolia Hotel is ~not~ a hotel, it is now a personal residence. To my delight, I was able to hear stories of the old hotel, tales of it's past residents many of which have never left, and how Magnolia Hotel was discovered by the owners. Jim & Erin saved the Magnolia from being demolished... they single handedly have saved a part of Seguin history!... and some haunted history at that! I spent about two hours just hanging out, looking around, and people watching... talked to some interesting people, listening to questions and answers... all very interesting. Did I have an experience? I had something creepy go up the back of my left neck and skull as I was talking to a ghost hunter in the original dining area where the owner was sitting. I also felt some weird things around the house... but something I brushed off at first until I started listening to others talk about it... when you first come up the stairs, it feels really heavy. I originally brushed it off as I just walked up the stairs... but no, go back and you feel it... and everyone was feeling it!!! Emma was playing in her room. One of the guides said just a few minutes earlier, a little girl got scratched. Then someone told her that they saw the door knob in the pink bathroom turn back and forth. The owner, Erin, said this house is more active during the day than at night. Wow! The owners Jim & Erin host a ghost tour in their home on occasion, which books up months in advance. The tour last about 2 hours with in-depth stories which might also include a spiritual reading from the Erin at the end (but only if deceased wish to come forward). Erin has written Haunted New Braunfels, Haunted Seguin, and soon to be released Haunted Magnolia House. All proceeds go towards restoring the Magnolia Hotel. That's the weapon you get as you run through a course with a 'team leader' and shoot your way to safety! $25 at the gate gets you 1 run through plus 75 rounds of paintballs. Extra rounds is $5. Check out their website for more info, or for any changes. How it went down: Paid the $$ at the gate and parked the car. Since we are meeting friends, we hung out for a bit. What to do? There were 2 food vendors selling turkey legs brisket and your typical hot dogs with the fixings. Choice of drinks was soda, water and hot chocolate for the colder nights. All reasonably priced. Giant movie projector set up beside the course playing zombie movies for those who are just chillin. Looses 1 star, because for some reason it's playing sound but no picture which was a bit of a bummer. Though I felt sorry for the operator who was obviously frustrated, he should have tried it out ahead of time to make sure it all worked. Once all our friends arrive we get in line. There is 6 of us all together which is a dream team and the max you need on your team. If you don't have enough people, they will put you with another group to add up to six. Sucks for you, if you want to try it alone or with a smaller group, but you may be able to sweet talk them your way. Looses another star b/c once we were in Line it took 2 hours for it to be our turn, even though they try to get a group through every 15 min. Gaines a star b/c when it's your turn, you are pumped and a little scared at the same time (at least I was). It was fun and a little intense and I totally see why you have to be in some kind of good shape with no health problems, b/c you are running through the whole course when your not shooting the bad guys. All in all, as long as you are with friends/family, bring some extra CASH for food or extra rounds, you'll have a good time. And get in line ASAP so you don't have to wait forever! They have a great idea. Maybe next October they can build upon it to make it even better. Was it worth the $25? Yes and no. Costs just as much as a haunted house does, but haunted houses won't let you shoot anyone with paint balls. You decide...

We had the opportunity to visit SeaWorld San Antonio through a Veteran Appreciation program while…read morewe were in town for my nephew's Air Force BMT graduation. First, I want to say how truly appreciative I am of SeaWorld for offering this opportunity and allowing our family to enjoy the park with complimentary tickets. It was a very thoughtful gesture, and it meant a lot to us. We visited during the last week of July, and if you know anything about San Antonio summers, you know the heat can be brutal. Unfortunately, we happened to visit during a heat wave, so the combination of high temperatures and humidity was intense. We had my mother with us, who is handicapped, along with two younger children who are not used to that kind of heat, so we weren't able to stay as long as we originally planned. The biggest highlight of SeaWorld for us was definitely the animal attractions. We really enjoyed seeing the crocodiles, tortoises, flamingos, beluga whales, dolphins, and orcas. Those experiences were what made the visit worthwhile, and my kids absolutely loved seeing the animals. We especially appreciated the covered and indoor areas because they gave us a chance to escape the heat while still enjoying the park. The beluga whale show was a great break from the temperatures, and the orca show was another memorable experience. One thing I was surprised by (although I know many theme parks are similar) was the pricing for food and beverages. We stopped at Harbor Market because we wanted a break from the heat, some air-conditioning, and a chance to sit down and eat. Unfortunately, the air-conditioning seemed to be struggling when we walked in, so it wasn't quite the cool break we were hoping for. SeaWorld is a cashless park, so if you bring cash, you have to use a kiosk to transfer it onto a card. The kiosk does charge a fee for the transfer, which I believe was around $3.95. The food prices were definitely higher than expected. They do offer an all-day dining deal that works across SeaWorld and Aquatica for $59.99 per person, but for a family, that adds up very quickly. Especially considering the food options are pretty basic things like burgers, cheeseburgers, chicken tenders, hot dogs, and similar theme park-style meals. They do have some Asian-inspired options like orange chicken and sweet-and-sour chicken, but overall the food was nothing that stood out. The beverage system was also interesting. With a meal, you receive one drink, but the cup is activated through a QR code at the fountain machines. Once you use it, you can't simply refill it again, which was surprising. I understand that parks may have had issues with people abusing unlimited refills, but it was still frustrating not to have the option for a refill, especially in the middle of a summer heat wave when staying hydrated is important. The Harbor Market food area itself could also use some attention. The floors were sticky, and the tables and seating areas could have used a better cleaning. I understand theme parks are busy and maintaining large dining areas is challenging, but keeping those areas clean would really improve the overall experience. The gift shops were what you would expect at a theme park cute souvenirs but definitely overpriced. We did stop and get Rita's lemonade, which was a nice treat and helped us cool down. The ride lines were another thing to consider. If you're planning on riding the roller coasters or other attractions, expect some longer wait times and plan your day accordingly. They also have a splash pad/water area where kids (and adults) can cool off, which was a nice feature, especially during the summer heat. Overall, I would give SeaWorld San Antonio about a 7/10. I don't dislike it, but I wouldn't say it was a perfect experience either. The animal attractions were truly the best part and are what gave the park its higher rating for us. My kids loved seeing the animals, and we are very grateful we had the opportunity to visit through the Veteran Appreciation program. I would definitely recommend visiting during a cooler time of year if possible because the Texas summer heat can really impact your experience.

Let's start with parking--$45 just to park per day is outrageous before you've even walked through the gate. The ride experience was incredibly frustrating. We stood in line for over 30 minutes with absolutely no movement other than people giving up and leaving. Only after we had already wasted that time did employees finally announce that the ride was broken. A simple announcement at the entrance to the queue would have saved everyone a lot of time and frustration. Aquatica was just as disappointing. They wanted $60 for a locker for only three hours because all of the smaller $30 lockers were already full. We refused to pay that much just to store our belongings. The lazy river was another letdown because there were no tubes available. Guests were hanging onto them indefinitely, and there were no employees making sure tubes were being shared so everyone had an opportunity to enjoy the attraction. Finding a place to sit was nearly impossible. People claimed chairs by leaving towels and personal belongings on them, then disappeared for hours while other families walked around searching for somewhere to sit. There didn't appear to be any employees enforcing a chair policy or addressing obvious chair hogging. Even getting into the park was poorly managed. There were only two employees collecting admission for four lanes of backed-up traffic, creating long, unnecessary delays before we even entered the park. To make matters worse, the park does not accept Louisiana's LA Wallet or other state-issued digital driver's licenses, despite many states now recognizing digital IDs as valid identification. It created an unnecessary inconvenience. The one bright spot of the day was the evening entertainment. The concert was excellent, and the fireworks were great. The drone show was impressive as well, but if you're seated in Bayside Stadium, a large portion of it is blocked by the stadium roof. Simply moving the drone performance a little farther out, I believe, would allow everyone in the stadium to enjoy the entire show. Overall, this was one of the most disappointing amusement park experiences I've ever had. Between the excessive fees, poor operations, lack of crowd management, and constant frustrations, the value simply isn't there anymore. I'll be spending my vacation dollars elsewhere from now on. This was, without question, the worst trip I've ever had to SeaWorld and Aquatica San Antonio.
