Did this place get a few good screams, falls, and panic attacks out of me? Yes a few. But the price though is even scarier! My boo and I (no pun intended), freaked out from the ghastly cost of $70 for two people. We saw a deal for this haunted house on groupon and the price was right so we decided to check it out. We arrived a bit before 7:30, the opening time, so we were some of the first people in line. Nevertheless, it seemed to take forever for us to be shown in because they did not start letting people in until a bit after 7:30 and they were pretty slow letting people in after that. Unlike other haunted houses that I have been to, there were no characters or actors creeping around outside to spook you, so it was a pretty long and boring wait. Before we made it in, I read up on the history of the building itself, since it really was an asylum back in the 70s/80s, and honestly the history is the scariest part of the building because some pretty creepy stuff happened there. When we were about to go inside, we learned that it was a "total blackout" night, meaning that all the lights would be turned off. We were handed glow sticks so that we could find our way through (really probably so the actors inside could see us coming). We finally go inside and I am feeling pretty spooked from the anticipation. The first couple of rooms are elaborately decorated, but really nothing is too scary. As we walked through the entire house, it was sometimes hard to see the decorations themselves since the lights were off, so that may have taken away from the experience. There were only 4 or 5 actors hidden throughout the duration of the haunted house and they did the classic surprise scare tactic, but didn't really say or do anything that was too scary. The actors, however, were mostly just regular people in regular clothes with some face paint. I was honestly expecting them to wear costumes and have more of a character than just general scary person. There were some features inside that I had not experienced in other haunted houses, like the blow up walls and the big loud gusts and wind. Overall, I got a little spooked and I had a fun time, but it would probably not have been worth it. Ok, so I've been to the 13th Floor in San Antonio in 2014 and the House of Torment in Austin the year before that....and wow... The Psycho Asylum & Slaughterhouse was the scariest of them all by far. Every single room was as or more terrifying than the last. It was a Tuesday when I went and there was no line whatsoever, so it was just me and my boyfriend going through- which made it that much scarier... My boyfriend, a manly, bulky dude had to actually stop at one point before he could muster the courage to continue- he almost had to quit before we finished the place. Save your money and skip the other places and come here. It was what a haunted house should be: terrifying. It got two grown men screaming like little girls. read more

DO NOT GO HERE. One of the biggest rip offs I've ever been to. We bought tickets for Saturday night at midnight on Oct 2nd. Didn't actually get in until 12:25, so we were sitting on the side of the building being BS'd around because the last group had gone on longer than expected. So being stuck outside in the middle of SA, just waiting around was already a bummer. The woman inside refused to even let us sit inside by the entrance or on the entrance steps. Glenn was drunk, everytime he talked we could smell strong beer on his breath & all we did was walk around a building with him. We stayed inside one room for the majority of the time. There was one other person inside the building with him who helped show us the "paranormal" with an Xbox Kinect. Nothing happened, don't even know how they call this a haunted house. Scariest thing I've ever done, non stop excitement, the actors and actresses put on a really great performance and you feel like you're in an actual assylum trying to escape. Cuddles the clown is not cuddly at all! Even though you know its not real, you can't help but scream and be scared. What a great fright a friend and I had just a few hours ago. We arrived in San Antonio on 9/30, the Insane Asylum's first day. We swore we were going then but we were so scared or at least I was. We mustered up the courage to go on 10/4, on a Wednesday and they were closed. Before heading here, check the calendar on the website to see days and times. I think that they are closed M-W. We finally got there and after getting our tickets, Groupon's deals are best, we were given a verbal disclaimer and were allowed in. But we were so scared to. But we had to. But do we have to??? Yes, and in the Insane Asylum we went and the horrors began. The wails of a little girl jumping up and down in your face. Gusts of rampant wind spraying us that were just as scary. The corners were not safe. No place was safe from the craziness that was popping out out of nowhere. Jumping out in front of you, following you, getting real close to you yelling scary stuff. Great lighting, great timing, great frights. The sounds and the screams were just purely terrifying. I am not much of an enthusiast of Haunted Houses but I thought this was pretty scary. Can it be scarier? I don't know. Can the set look a little more realistic? Yeah. Can their ticket booth across the street be less shanty? Sure. And would it be scarier with more adults/bigger beings in the cast? Maybe. As for me, I think they did their job. I figured closing my eyes and screaming NO would get me through the asylum. First impression, no true characters at door, people taking tickets should be in character or at least have fun by pumping crowd up for entering. Inside wait same thing, no character just someone talking about rules, boring!!! Not to bad walk thru and good characters inside. Between houses should have more guidance or scary escorts. Good beginner haunted house but after visiting over 50 in past 23 yrs not that scary. read more

Drove here from Austin bc my boyfriend & I heard pretty good things about this haunted house, but was def NOT WORTH IT. We paid $35 for the tickets and paid $20 to skip the line. $55 for a lame haunted house. You gotta be under the influence to actually enjoy this haunted house. read more

Read reviews and decided to come here with a group of friends. However it turned out to be a huge disappointment... 35$ per person for 10 minutes of "entertainment" No one in our group got scared at all and the actors didn't do much. A lot of the scenes were just props with fake people, they definitely needed more actors. Giving two starts because the penny wise guy outside the haunted house was cool but really wish we would've gone to 13th floor instead. read more

Went last night and even though we purchased tickets online, we were told we still had to go through the ticket line.....?!?!? The ticket line wait was 30 minutes and then we were told the actual line was at least going to be another hour wait so "we should definitely pay the extra $$ for the express line". Um no thanks, we left and will revisit on a weeknight I guess. I don't understand the point of selling tickets online and then making the customer wait again in the ticket line. The one good thing was that we at least found out the hours of operation since their website is inoperable. Will update when I actually go this week! read more

This was a complete bust! Total rip-off! We were told Glen had a Ph.d. in paranormal activity and would explain all kinds of things that he has learned throughout his experience. This would not be just another "typical boring tour like all the others downtown SA area" that he would could show us things we will not be able to explain....blah blah blah. The so called boring stories would have at least been entertaining somewhat. All we did is walk around in an empty warehouse in the dark. He didn't even explain the history of why we were even in that building. We walked around in silence a lot, nothing happened. He jumped around and went whoosh whoosh trying to knock spirits off him. We knew we may or may not see anything, but he put absolutely ZERO effort into explaining the phenomenal around paranormal activity. We also spent most of our time standing in some room. Again nothing happened. If he really had his phd he could have spoke about his findings, etc.. We thought we smelled alcohol on him as well. This guy needs to close shop and find another job that's not ripping people off. read more

The decor wasn't bad. Knotts scaryfarm in cali has better houses and is more intense. The staff was friendly at the entrance. Some of the characters were very funny and interacted with you and made it slightly more enjoyable. One lady was particularly helpful and said my husband and his cane would be fine going through one section and asked if he was ok due to he was leaning on a wall Because their air cannons were shot in his ears and he kept losing his balance due to loss of hearing from the stupid air cannons. After getting repeatedly getting hit in the ear with the canons it no longer became enjoyable and watched as my husband tried to keep his balance just to finish the maze. Thankfully it's a short haunted house (which is usually the sign of a poor house), and the last character in the end pissed off my husband due to him banging his bat against a wall near my husbands ear, that he had to use to brace himself just to keep from falling. The air canons are absolutely terrible and if you have any slight hearing problem or balance issue, DO NOT GO HERE. Over all, decent place but it's the first and last time we will go here. read more

General admission at The 13th Floor is $25. General disappointment at Psycho Asylum "&" Slaughterhouse is $30 Went on a weekday at opening the parking was pretty tight not to mention really dark. The only employee I could see from my parking space was the one woman working the ticket booth. Needless to say I most definitely double checked the visibility of any valuables upon leaving my vehicle.There was a woman set up with a small tent giving fortunes or something, her sign was not too visible in the dark and it seemed rather tacky. At least with some of the other haunted houses in San Antonio if they had a cheap tacky vendor of any sorts they had multiple vendors making it more like a small cheap fairground. A few minutes before initial opening a food truck came in and parked near the ticket booth, keeping with the theme the fortune teller had set the food truck was in pretty bad shape and boy was the generator in the back of it fun to listen to while waiting to go inside they really needed some music playing it was just a whole bunch of silence followed by generator noises and random stupid banter from nearby patrons in line. I would like to take a step back and mention that the area surrounding the actual haunted house is not very large so it is not fair to expect a carnival outside but with the scale of this place it seems easier just to not have any vendors and save some extra parking spots from it. Outside there was one employee at the front of the line and another pacing the line every so often. They began the first group of people a few minutes after opening and the wait began. I feel it should be mentioned that at this point there had not been a single sighting of any costumed characters. To be fair the line you wait in is the street corner in front of the building so I would not expect them to let their employees stand in the street with open traffic but have someone walk down the line from the direction everyone is faced away from or just stand at the front of the line for some pic ops why don't you. Upon entrance we were directed to a room to sit and wait before actually going through the house. Reading someone else's comment I notice mention of someone working with a Kinect in said room and it does make sense as the room had a table with some trinkets and a clear focus area for projection if this is true and they really do start with that then why wouldn't the "opening act" to the house not be functioning at open?. The actual walk through was not bad initially, they had decor and lighting that is to be expected of any typical haunted house style amusement. And I have to give credit to some of the costumed characters inside as they did just fine. However the end is extremely abrupt and quick to find. This place advertises itself as Psycho Asylum "&" Slaughterhouse which sounds like it has two separate themed courses but you'll only spend about ten minutes inside. At the exit there were two employees sitting in chairs not speaking or doing any actions just playing music on a small stereo and just like the front of the place there was no real indication you were even anywhere. If you really feel you must go just to say you went and experienced it just gonna say I have been to Nightmare on Grayson. Fearesta, and the 13th floor and this place is at the bottom by an extremely large margin. Those of you still down for some pain then ease some of it and park in spaghetti warehouse's parking, hell just stay there and go eat instead that would be a much better use of thirty dollars. If I could rate 0 stars I would. Anyone reading this October of 2017 and thinking that this place can be perhaps be changed for the better in a years time I am going to have my money bet on the opposite. read more
