Great night, it happened to be my birthday and I had a couple beers at the beach and a couple at the hotel bar then stopped by MojitoLab for one (my God) and then for dinner with the family. We actually made a reservation (it was a Saturday night) but it probably wasn't necessary, we were seated right in front of the stage, because there was supposed to be music. my youngest just had alcapurrias and arroz blanco, they were mini alcapurrias which for here were her meal although we got a couple orders and everyone sharedm the report was positive. My wife and daughter are on a mofongo roll on this trip and my wife got the mofongo with cream sauce, and my daughter vegetable mofongo, positive reports from both. I had picked this place intitially because of the kioskos, it was the one that I identified asapao at, and I wasn't dissapointed, it can be 90 degrees out and I'll hit a good soup, came with arroz y habichuelas and was simply flavorful and delicious. I"m not much of a dessert guy, but the girls report on the dessert was tres leches great, ice cream not so much. Really the highlight of the visit was the band that was playing, they had a tromponist,stand up bass, congas and keyboards, and with me being un poquito borracho, my now 57 year old brain transported itself to decades ago, listening to music with my now deceased abuelo. More bolero and jibaro sounding than more modern PR music, which as an older soul when it comes to Latin music often just sounds too loud and overwrought. (but to each his own). I was noticiably teary with my family handing me napkins. This is to say, the food was great, the entertainment just gave me a trip back in a time machine, so thanks for that. We should have known when they hung up on us when we tried to call for take out. We sat down anyway. I'm not sure if the new yorkers are always impatient but We waited 40 min for food. When we flagged down our waitress, she said something like "the restaurant is big, the food comes when they call us " (it was loud and I don't understand Spanish that we'll). I had to ask a couple more times for the food. The mofongo was way overcooked and tough. The Pina colada was great though. They had coloring books and live music !! read more

I was staying at the Wyndham Rio Grande and was getting tired of the resort food so I decided to visit Luquillo beach and get a take out lunch at Terruno. I was craving authentic Puerto Rican food so I went with the shrimp mofungo with the creamy garlic butter sauce. The dish was on the pricier side at $21 but it came with a lot of shrimp and a healthy portion of mofungo. It was a very heavy and rich dish as one would expect with fried plantains covered in a butter sauce. Since I did take out and didn't experience the service and ambience, my rating is solely based on the food and price which I thought was a decent value but nothing out of the ordinary which is why I gave the place 3 stars. I think most people would be happy with the food so worth a try. read more

My FAVORITE restaurant that I visited in PR! The food was amazing, affordable and the drinks were even better! We went during happy hour, so we didn't spend much on drinks. Came here during a visit to Luquillo. There are so many kiosks to choose from, but given the yelp reviews, I picked here! We were seated immediately (got lucky b/c a queue formed after we were seated). I ordered the roasted rabbit with side of plantain sticks. The service took a very long time (40+min) and the rabbit was on the salty side. It was also extremely loud, as they had live music and it was difficult to yell over the volume. The plantain sticks and sauces were yum though. Another gripe is that they only had one stall for the restrooms, so there was a constant line for that. We went to the kiosks to check out Wepa Arepas but they weren't open yet so we stopped in here mostly because it was where we found a parking spot. This is a lovely little open-air restaurant in the kiosks lining Luquillo Beach. Many of the tables boast beautiful views of the ocean. I tried their Mojito and it was tasty. I also tried their pastellilo de conejo (rabbit turnover) as an appetizer. It was SO good. I then ordered the ensalada de pulpo (octopus salad) and it was just okay. It had WAY too many onions which really monopolized the taste. I was disappointed because I have been craving octopus salad since my last Puerto Rico trip. The service here is fine. Everything runs a little slow which I guess is common for island time but I did see a table get up and leave because they waited too long for anyone to take their drink order. But overall we had a great lunch with good food and great views. I would definitely come back to try something different. read more

A great spot to grab lunch or dinner at the end of the kioskos in Luquillo. Sitting on the covered patio you get a lovely view of the beach, complete with ocean breezes. The food here was some of the best we had during our weeklong stay in NE Puerto Rico. The mofongo was excellent - I had mine with shrimp and garlic sauce and ate every bite. My kids had chicken tenders, which seemed to have some kind of dry rub or marinade under the breading. My picky kids didn't appreciate the seasoning, but my husband and I did, and happily polished off what they didn't eat. Service isn't amazing - a bit slow, curt, and sometimes forgetful, which is why I dropped a star. read more

Amazing piña coladas with homemade whipped cream! My mouth is watering thinking about the delicious food and drinks from here... We were recommended this spot from a local in the area and I am so glad that I stopped by to grab a bite. I had the creamy garlic shrimp with rice & beans, and I loved it! The waitress had told us that the creamy garlic sauce is what they were known for and it was very much worth it. The sauce was not too heavy and definitely different from the usual garlic sauce that most Latin American dishes come with. I did notice however that the steak with onions was not actually steak, but it was a hamburger style steak that was not indicated in the description. This was average and I would not get this again. If you're visiting this strip, I would definitely recommend to stop by to grab a bite. read more

I ordered the mofongo con carne frita with garlic sauce. The sauce was extremely salty and I couldn't finish the dish because of that. I've never had mofongo before so I don't have a good judgement of what perceived to be good mofongo but I thought it was good. The pieces of plantain were mushed up, but there was still bite size pieces remaining which added a good texture. The carne frita was a bit hard and tough, but delicious when you are extremely hungry. Overall, I think my experience would have been better if I didn't get the garlic sauce and opted for plain. I tried my boyfriend's dish and was also underwhelmed by the mofongo considering all the other mofongos I had gotten to eat in Puerto Rico. It genuinely took over 35 minutes for our food to come out and the tables were sticky. They also took forever to bring us our check and water too. I have to admit, I didn't really understand the big deal about mofongo before I came here. This is the mofongo that changed it all for me. It was so delicious, and the sauce was one of the best I've ever had. The churrasco just melted in my mouth and the flavors were just fantastic. Every dish we tried here lived up to the hype. Went here for dinner with the family. Family joint with good music and atmosphere. Now I've had quite a bit of mofongo during my stay in PR, and although I'm not an "expert", I'd say I know what pretty good mofongo tastes like. Though this time I decided not to get the mofongo, I did try it and it was terrible. They drown the dang thing in this creamy white sauce and it seems like they value presentation over flavor and authenticity. I'd be pretty offended if I was Puerto Rican and served this dish. I ordered the seafood gumbo, and when I got my plate, it wasn't gumbo, but instead a rice and octopus soup. (Note: a lot of "seafood"/"mariscos" dishes in PR are going to be heavy on octopus, apparently it's a big treat down here) Gumbo isn't an "easy" dish to make, but it's not impossible. They didn't even make a roux for this, like it was literally soup. Oh yeah, and your optional side dish can only be beans or rice, maduros will cost you extra even though they are listed on the menu as optional sides. I also had a mojito, it's crazy to think that they couldn't even do that right, 80% rum, tasted like crap. Rest of the family had chicken and steak which was chewy and seared to oblivion. We came here after a horrible experience at revolution pizza which is a few doors down from Terruño. We were greeted and promptly seated. Our waitress was nice and attentive the entire time. Our mojito were delicious. I got the guava mojito and it was great and refreshing. We ordered the chicharrones de conejo and the sorruitos for appetizers. My husband loved the rabbit. I ordered the churrasco con chimmichurri with white rice and beans. The steak was cooked perfectly and it was juicy and very flavorful. My husband ordered the whole fried snapper with arroz mamposteao which was also excellent. The place itself has a happy and laid back ambiance. As we were leaving someone was setting up for live music. I would definitely recommend this place for lunch or dinner. read more

Unfortunately can not give more than 3 stars, we were a table of 4, we all ordered the stuffed lobster because we heard it was good from other couples at our resort, first problem, the waiter comes back after we ate our apps and says, we only have lobsters for 3 of the stuffed lobsters, "what do you mean, there are like 40 lobsters in the tank?" Well we would have to give you a slightly larger lobster than we usually do, so will have to charge you an extra $15 for that one order, although I thought that was crazy, I said no problem, charge us the extra $15. SMH! So now come the 4 lobsters, and one of them had NO TAIL! Yes you can't make this stuff up! "Where is the tail? " (Caribbean lobsters have no claws, so basically no lobster meat) waitress says "oh must be a small one, look under the stuffing" nope, no tail! I'm sorry but the quality control is not acceptable when you're charging me $50+ per dish. Lowering to 1 star because obviously the owner is tone deaf and thinks I need to try and get a free lobster. read more

We were referred to Terruno by multiple people. The first meal we had there was possibly one of the most delicious well-cooked lobsters and service we have ever had! So good we went back a second time during our short stay. After waiting for over an hour and half, being served the driest rabbit bites as an appetizer, our dinners arrived. We were starving, and had to leave for our flight in 2 hours. I pulled put the seafood stuffing and realize they served me a lobster shell without a lobster in it the lobster had been completely scooped out, served to another table I'm assuming- not to mention the stuffing was just fishy bits of conch and octopus. The shell was dry even leading me to believe it was dug from the trash. The server, albeit extremely rude, had zero hesitation refunding the meal, most likely because she knew there wasn't a lobster in it. Very pretty waterside seating with good quality food. Lots of local favorites like monfongo and rice dishes. A lot of meat options as well as veggie monfongo for the vegetarians. The staff was very nice. Their Pina Colada was delicious and strong. The menu is huge so there's definitely something for everyone. I had the coconut rice with fish and it was a GIGANTIC portion. Enough rice for 3 meals. There's chunks of white fish inside. The rice was sweet and fragrant. Definitely worth a try if you love coconut. I used the garlic sauce they had on the table to make it more of a savory sweet dish and it was delightful. I really enjoyed it. The plantains it came with was also very good. Located in the middle of the Luqillo Kiosks in Puerto Rico, Terruno is another amazing restaurant option when visiting the island! We closed out the trip here on our last night in paradise!! The restaurant is open air from the front to the rear where the sea breeze from the beach creates such awesome vibes!!! The cocktails we ordered were strong and were brought out quickly. We ordered a good variety of dishes to try and let me tell you they absolutely nailed it! I even got to pick out my own lobster lolol!!! The quality and the quantity of each dish was quite impressive! Standouts were the conch salad, the mamposteao rice, that ridiculous pork chop and omg that seafood stuffed lobster was to die for!!! The service was pretty good all around and had no complaints in that area. The restaurant was beautifully decorated and that only served to heighten the experience! Wow this was so good. The portions were absolutely massive, and everything was fresh and tasty. We got the piononitos (stuffed sweet plantains with shrimp and skirt steak) to start which was incredible -- don't know what the sauce was but it was very good. The sweetness of the plantains worked really well with the steak and the sauce, which I didn't expect, and they were perfectly cooked. I got the grouper ceviche (ceviche de mero) with mofongo, which was really tasty and generously portioned. The ceviche was very fresh and almost sweet, and the mofongo was hearty. I had a bit of food envy though because my friend had the arroz con coco y pescado (rice with coconut and fish) which was INCREDIBLE. Firstly it was a massive heaping pile more than enough for two, and the rice was mixed with a delicious coconut sauce and bits of white fish in it which was just an incredible combination. They are not the nicest people to deal with and when the food came to our table it was cold. Which means it was sitting in the kitchen for a long time. We were so excited to eat here after reading the reviews and seeing the pictures, but it was not good. I purchased the shrimp mofongo and it was the driest thing ever. Aside from getting 6 pieces of shrimp there was barely any sauce, it was super dry and flavorless. We also ordered the Filete de Chillo and I did not think it was possible in Puerto Rico to eat a fish that was over cooked and with no taste. They serve it to you with a "garlic butter sauce" on the side, and it's just pure melted butter and 0 garlic or anything other seasonings.I had to request for limes or lemons or salt and the fish had nothing. Lastly, we waited 50 minutes after ordering to eat, so you can imagine our disappointment after waiting that long for a very flavorless and underwhelming dinner. Never coming back. read more

It was loud so be aware you might have to talk loudly to hear one another, but that didn't bother me or my friends at all. The drinks were AMAZING. Get the frozen passion fruit margarita! Came here for a quick afternoon snack. We were very hungry but wanted something before heading to the airport on our last day in PR. We ordered Fried calamari (very nice and crispy with a salsa rosado, which is basically ketchup with mayo); conch salad (I was actually pretty disappointed at the conch, the salad was ok but the conch needed more lemon or something acidic); fried cheese (I love cheese! That's all I can say lol); and the monfongo with camarones. I have to say best monfongo of this trip. I've been trying them at different places and so far this was well seasoned, you could taste the garlic and the spices in it. The shrimps were perfectly cooked. The place has a nice outdoor patio with umbrellas or you can seat in the inner part with shade, can't go wrong either way. Service was ok. Waitress was polite and friendly. And huge portion, I may have eaten half of it. I think the fish is grouper, and its all mixed in the rice so you have to go "fishing" for it (ha-ha). Pretty good amount of protein! RICE WITH CRAB (ARROZ CON JUEYES) $16 (3/5)- friend got this w/ maduros (fried sweet plantains) which is what you would get at a brazilian steakhouse I guess. They were great! The rice with crab was okay. Not much protein and a bit salty. Definitely preferred the coconut rice with fish. get tostones if you're craving something savory and crispy or get the maduros if you're looking for sweet and soft. Affordable, huge portions, and delicious! No wait when we arrived at 1pm Wednesday, but it was definitely one of the more popular restaurants bc there was always people waiting.
