Given more days in Luqillo, I would return every day to try all their food. I started with the arepas de coco - very well fried, soft, doughy puffs complemented with a guava sauce. They were addictive, it was hard to not eat all of them. They would also be a good dessert - reminiscent of beignets, but with less oil and sugar. For main I had the churrasco skirt steak with rice of the day. It was a generous portion of steak topped with a delicious churrasco fragrant with garlic. The rice was well seasoned and perfectly cooked texture. Server was enthusiastic about the food and providing suggestions. Though I suspect everything on the menu is delicious. The service was very friendly, although there were several instances where 1 person of our group of 5 was left out when things were delivered to our table. The waitress (who was super cool) had to go and remind the bar to make my wife's drink. Then, she had to go and ask the kitchen why my entree hadn't come out when everyone else had been served 5 minutes prior. Ok I'm being nice here. I tried to order from door dash so I could pick up on my way back to Airbnb after doing laundry. App said food could be ready in 30 min. But when I got to restaurant they said they didn't get the order, apparently the machine was turned off. Seriously, we ate at a bunch of places during our trip to Puerto Rico and this was hands down the best experience we had, not just for the food (which was incredible) but for the whole vibe, the hospitality, everything. She took so much time to walk us through the menu since my family doesn't speak Spanish, gave us thoughtful recommendations, and just made us feel so welcomed. She even took a bunch of pictures for us with these adorable props -- and for the record, my mom hates taking photos, but somehow Jeni made it happen and now we have a full family picture for the first time in forever. As for the food... wow. I got the shrimp tacos and they were out of this world. Super flavorful, and I loved the addition of plantains -- every bite was perfection. Even the Spanish-style rice on the side? I could eat that every single day and never get tired of it. My family went nuts for the cheese balls, and my dad is still talking about how massive and delicious his stuffed avocado (aguacate) was. Oh, and the pork bites? Delectable. I was looking for a restaurant that offered the fried red snapper and came here in search of that specific platter but left loving everything else. From the outside, even from when you open the door, you think this is a small restaurant but as you walk towards the back, you realize it's bigger than you thought. It is a popular restaurant. Our waitress was phenomenal. She spoke both Spanish and English and gave some great recommendations, even telling us that they had tostones de pana. Yuuum!! We ordered the mofongo with octopus, the churrasco with tostones the pana, the red snapper with regular tostones (but they brought it with tostones de pana) we didn't mind. The lobster with rice and beans, and yes, picked from the tank right behind from where we were seating. The kids got a kick out of that. The avocado stuffed with mahi and mofongo and a kid's meal with chicken and arroz mamposteao. Every plate came with a side of shredded cabbage and a tomato. I have to say that EVERY plate was delicious! Flavors were great, service was outstanding and ambiance on point as they were playing salsa the whole time we were there. After a day of hiking and going to the beach we decided to stop here for dinner. The plates and drinks were delicious and the server was helpful in educating us on specials/what's available. There is indoor and outdoor seating with the space not feeling too crowded. I ordered the veggie stuffed avocado and did not order a side of amarillos because the rice was supposedly made with it but there were no pieces of them in it, just a slight hint of flavor so that was a little confusing (see pic for reference). What a great find in Luquillo for a delicious meal. I would say their food is better than the vibe because there are several restaurants to choose from in Luquillo that have live music going on so this restaurant will not check those boxes but I felt their food was better than those restaurants. I came here for dinner and didn't have to wait as it was still early around 6. But by the time it was 7, the waiting line was pretty long. So be prepared for that as the food takes quite a long time to come. I had the Mofongo with chicken and the red snapper with shrimp and trifango. Both dishes came with a side of shredded lettuce. The shrimp was fresh and cooked perfectly, the mofongo and trifango were both flavorful and creamy, chimichuri sauce was refreshing and the quantity was huge. However, the chicken in the mofongo was more on the chewy side and the weak point of the dish. I would suggest ordering shrimp instead as a side. I felt the redsnapper special dish was kinda expensive for what it was worth, the size of the fish wasn't that big for a main course dish. The dish also came with a side sauce with flavors to choose from. I went for the garlic sauce and the sauce was pretty heavy on the butter. I will try a different sauce for next time. I also tried their soursop juice which was good too. I would stick to their usual menu for my next time. All in all, it was a pleasant experience dining here. Wait was chaotic, we were told an hour then got called for a table outside in the plaza in 20 minutes, then we waited 90 minutes for food. I know a lot of restaurants in PR runs on island time and they don't have enough kitchen staff, but this is the longest we waited. Food was mostly good, my son's skirt steak was good, but my sister's was overcooked. Prices were kinda high. Cheese balls and cod fritters were yummy. The worst part was it had a sudden Caribbean rain in the middle while we were out in the open, so we all got a shower with our dinner. So we were wet and hungry while waiting for our food. This has been a favorite of ours to visit every time we're in Luquillo. Parking can be challenging and if you don't mind walking a block or two it's worth the time. You will soon learn that Puerto Ricans are the most friendliest and happiest people around. We will celebrate anything. The continuing story of visiting Puerto Rico and particularly Luquillo. This is the third visit to the island and, as usual it has not been disappointing. La Fonda was quaint, but the food and staff were great. My Puerto Rican language skills are not the best, but two of the staff did a great job explaining the menu and their specials. Of course a margarita with a wonderful shrimp dish and some deep fried appetizers made for a positive experience. Our food came out quickly, but my plate was loaded with onions. When I pointed it out, the runner asked if I had requested no onions; the waiter then said they would redo the dish. Four minutes later it came back. After waiting ten minutes for the waiter (who had stepped outside), I asked if the dish had actually been re-cooked or if they just removed the onions. The answer was obvious. We were offered another new plate, but at that point we no longer trusted the kitchen. We asked for the check and left. Given the mishandling of a clear dietary request and the erosion of trust, our frustration felt completely justified. Side notes: the skirt steak was $37. I asked for rice and tostones--only the tostones came. The steak arrived well-done instead of medium, already sliced, and the portion didn't seem close to 10 oz. You can do the math. We've been on the way to Coral Lagoon, me and my family. After reviewing. A lot of reviews on yelp and Google. I've visited that place and was extremely disappointed. ChatGPT offered me to order local specialties Mofongo Carne fritas. My wife ordered it salmon with rice. The only thing I can tell good about that place is very good stuff. They are amazingly friendly. But old food was very bad cooked. And we wait around $150 for two adults two kids with only two beers. I don't know why it's so highly reviewed. The meat was extremely solid and salmon as well. Mofongo itself is dry hard chewing substance. Much cheaper tastier and healthier to eat in Burger King.
